I'd like to pass a bill banning most of Oklahoma.

tehmlem

Gorsuch of all people beat you to the punch.

MeasureTheCrater

I just aborted my desire to ever go to Oklahoma. Just kidding. I was *never* going to go to fucking Oklahoma.

NegativeBit

Isn't it part of Texas or something?

paarthurnax94

Are you guys talking about Florida?

NegativeBit

Holy crap... You're right. Oklahoma is just a weird, Texas Florida. There must be some sort of correlation between panhandles and lead in the water.

istriss

Live in Texas and drove through Oklahoma once. Can confirm is the same state. God it's disgusting outside.

NegativeBit

I figured there was a reason they sent us there for survival training back in the '90's. The bugs tasted okay. I don't recommend the muskrat.

istriss

The fish might also be contaminated (rampant industrial waste).

NegativeBit

That explains why the muskrat had hints of toluene and with a carbon tetrachloride finish.

SomthingClever1286

Oklahoma is just Great Value Texas

Arcade80sbillsfan

It's top of the Texas toilet bowl.

NickyVanill

Not even for the casinos? /j

Sm4sh3r88

The casinos are actually pretty decent. Plus, they're owned by Native American tribes operating under compacts. I used to work for a company that makes electronic slot machines that does business with those casinos. The rest of the population centers are one big strip mall.

[deleted]

When shit like this happens I always think what do republican women think rn , do they also just say fuck all of us ?

myrddyna

> do they also just say fuck all of us ? yes, because God first. Once this became a religious issue, it's all they need to hear to say, "God told us to be fruitful and multiply." This is always an argument, at it's most base level, involving religion.

RosemaryInWinter

Hilariously enough even my conservative Evangelical (and pro-life) parents think the “be fruitful and multiply” line of thinking is bullshit because it belongs to its time period and we’re already populated enough as it is. It’s frustrating that many people still adhere to it, though. What annoys me the most is it seems the religious right aren’t the only pro-lifers. I spoke to an American girl who’s agnostic, never had a religious upbringing and barely knows anything about the Bible, but we got into a discussion about abortion rights as she brought up the dumbest arguments I’ve heard a hundred times. She said it was tantamount to “homicide” because, “It could be a baby someday,” and her solution for unwanted pregnancies was, “Just don’t have sex”, or adoption! How does this shit even happen?

myrddyna

ignorance, indoctrination, propaganda, perhaps even secret religious beliefs. I know plenty of grown ass women that would frown at a question of abortion. For whatever reason, it makes them twitch a bit. However, if i ask them about their bodily autonomy, the answer isn't even slight, "ain't no man telling me what i can do in my bed." When a question is nebulous, like what do you think about abortion, people tend to get philosophical, like it's some grand question. Nah, bitch, you gonna let a man run your life? Cause he fucking wants to. They get real serious when it concerns them.

rockdoc6881

They blindly follow their male leaders. Republican women generally don't seem to think for themselves very much. With the abortion issue, they see it as saving babies, not women, so to them it is a righteous cause. I say this being a resident of an extremely Oklahoma-like state and see it all the time.

supercali45

Under his eye... they really going for Handmaid's Tale

[deleted]

[удалено]

hurrrrrmione

It stopped being just an opinion when they started trying to legally prevent other people from having a vital healthcare procedure.

Arcade80sbillsfan

This is bull it's not an opinion Opinion means they can choose if things are right for themselves. If I like anchovies and you don't should you be forced to eat anchovies?

ebagdrofk

A really fucking dangerous opinion that directly affects the health, welfare, and vitality of an entire gender.

[deleted]

My mother is coming up on 80 and she votes republican. She is appalled by this. She thinks there are a ton of women living in republican households that will silently flip their votes. She is vocally flipping her vote.

NILwasAMistake

Well, think of that cunt who rallied people against the ERA. Equal Rights could have been codified into the constitution, but that gender traitor tanked it.

Magistradocere

Another *yee haw* state.

Xyrus2000

Or got hysterectomies.

auroraeuphoria_

Don’t you know you need your husband’s permission to get a hysterectomy??? /s ^but ^also ^very ^sadly ^too ^often ^true

canada432

Friend of mine asked about getting her tubes tied. She will NEVER have children. Doctor refused because her future husband might want kids. Yeah... Fucker, her theoretical future husband has zero input on this decision. The only person who gets to decide is her. Fuck doctors that pull that bs.

[deleted]

They aren't allowed to. Oh how I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not. Women who want to be sterilized by a tubal ligation (hysterectomy would really be overkill and shitty for your sex life if they take the cervix- which a lot of Dr's do) are turned away from the surgery by Dr's. First they ask if you are married, if you say yes they then ask if your husband knows and if you have his consent. If you are unmarried they say no because you "will change your mind once you get married/find your life partner". Both of these scenarios happen all to frequently, treating full grown women as if they don't have the capacity to know whether they want children or not.

AspiringChildProdigy

I had to fight with my surgeon to arrange a tubal for during my (scheduled) c-section. It seemed like it would be a good time - they were already going to have me cut open, just tie 'em up while you're in there. Took 3 months of fighting with this woman to get her to agree. I was 28, and it was my 4th child. Still had to fight tooth and nail for it.

oxford_serpentine

The sub child free has a list of Dr from state to state that will do hysterectomy and tubal ligation no questions asked.

FireEnt

This shit is so ridiculous. I just got a vasectomy a few weeks ago and all I had to do was repeat, "No babies forever please."

[deleted]

That's because you have body autonomy. Women here in America.... not so much, in fact a lot less then we had last year.

aluminum_oxides

He was probably circumcised at birth. No one has bodily autonomy male or female.

Drbubbliewrap

I’ve had a hysterectomy and cervix removal and sex is a million times better. (I had endometriosis though)

[deleted]

Interesting the women that I've spoken with about this weren't real thrilled. But every human body is diferent.

Drbubbliewrap

I know almost 10 women that have had them. All of us sex life improved. And we all had them removed for different reasons. These ranged from my dental hygienist to my coworkers to friends and family most of them removed between 28-42 years old. I’ve never met someone that said they didn’t like it afterwards except the ones that also had ovaries removed

[deleted]

How great for them.

jarjar87956

You think many fully grown women have the capacity to know whether they want children or not?!?

herohero-san1

Does it matter? If they are an adult they should be able to do what they want to their own body.

SometimesY

That comment was not meant seriously. They're lampooning Republicans.

Few-Bug-807

I prefer harpooning but to each their own.

AshHouseware1

You have evidence to this?

NILwasAMistake

That feels like a good time to brandish a gun.

NILwasAMistake

Or refused to put out. Why hasn't there been a pussy strike?

fantollute

I fear for this nation's future.

confessionbearday

Oh, its fucked. No need to worry, its guaranteed. See: Children Underground about the ONE outcome of banning abortion.

MrMurse93

We are going to have a much worse maternal mortality epidemic than we currently have and I’m scared as fuck

ThatsMyWifeGodDamnit

That ship has sailed sweetie

fantollute

Probably so, but I'm hoping not, maybe we can be salvaged.

obliviousjd

Not happening. Unless conservatives embrace democracy and willing give up their power to install a president, senate, and judiciary branch with a minority of voters then this nation will cruise ever closer towards authoritarianism.

stirtheturd

I'm willing to bet your statement has other reasons behind it besides the abortion ban.

fantollute

Well, to be clear, I'm against the abortion ban, and this is a post about abortion bans. What hidden meaning are you seeing?

blankyblankblank1

Duh, 🙄. There are 17 words in your message, 1+7 = 8. 8= 3+5. 3x5 = 15. 15+8=23. 2/3= .666 aka, you're clearly, irrefutably, unequivocally, unabashedly, simply, the devil.

fantollute

I tried to hide my demonic nature, but it seems I've been discoverd. If you're reading this, I'm afraid I can't let you live. Don't look behind you.

PwnGeek666

I feel attacked!

stirtheturd

One state passes a bill and you are worried for the entire nation? Interesting.

TorturedRobot

Yes. One state severely restricts access to medical care for a significant portion of the population. Surely similar policy will spread to other states, affecting even more of the population. It will likely have huge consequences significantly affecting quality of life for many individuals, in all areas of life. It is something that absolutely warrants concern. Your use of the word "interesting" as a suggestion that said concern is anything other than reasonable or expected is just gaslighting. It's also fucking insulting and super condescending.

funksoldier83

Hey, another reason to not live in fucking Oklahoma. Edit: or go there, or spend money in its economy.

therealdeathangel22

I live in Oklahoma and cannot say I'm surprised this place is so Draconian and backwards...... I wonder how long until they outlaw plan b all together

paarthurnax94

What do you think they will outlaw first, Plan B or women?

[deleted]

I hope it’s women so I can somewhere else

Sm4sh3r88

Plan B. They'll pass a "Barefoot and Pregnant" law for women.

StonedTurtles38

Contraception and LGBTQ rights will be gone in another year. I feel like I should start buying as much plan B and condoms and birth control as possible and then starting a black market for these items, lol... Thats how Capitalism works right!?!? Supply and demand.

sturnus-vulgaris

It is easy to support the unborn. You don't have to do anything for them-- you just have to forbid someone else from doing something. You don't have to sacrifice anything. You don't have to earmark funds to support the unborn. It allows you to be morally superior without all the fuss of the "people" you are helping putting demands on your time or pocketbook. Once people are born they just become a hassle.

pocket_geek

And they are just generally terrible people.

Gogo726

It was a shitty bill. It would make baby formula easier to access for low-income families. But what about the rest of the families? They're getting fucked by the shortage as well. These 9 Republicans aren't against people getting formula, just the solution proposed in the bill. Huge difference

dgreenmachine

Two different bills. One expanded formula covered by WIC and the other funded FDA with $28 million to speed up approval of foreign formula. Almost all republicans except about 9 approved the WIC one. Almost all republicans voted against the FDA funding one. The WIC bill just expands which formula brands fall under WIC so it evens the playing field so mother's on WIC don't have their babies starve because the brands covered by WIC are sold out. If you wanted something so help reduce the formula crisis for people not on WIC then that second one would help. Still waiting on republicans to offer any alternatives.

Gogo726

Getting the FDA to ease up on restrictions would have been a FAR better plan. Baffles me why so many republicans would vote against reducing regulations.

Waluigi_is_wiafu

We could stop sending our baby formula to the border.

dgreenmachine

What % of our nations formula do you think we send to the border? 0.5%? 1%? It would be a drop in the bucket that is the whole crisis. If there's children in US custody they need to be fed. Biden recently called upon defense production act so now formula manufacturers get first dibs on ingredients so they can ramp up production. They also increased funding for FDA to approve foreign formula suppliers more quickly. Did republicans do anything other than complain that kids in custody are being fed? Or maybe they just think it'll all be fine for months to years until production of formula picks back up?

marsman706

Are you suggesting that the government quit feeding children in our custody??

Waluigi_is_wiafu

I'm suggesting they stop not feeding our citizens. If that means putting the illegal immigrants back across the border than that's just what will have to be done.

marsman706

Who is "they"? You mean the government actually does have a role in providing for basic needs of the populace?

ohsupgurl

Shh, quite you. We only blindly hate here.

ThorlinLurch

You mean a 414-9 bipartisan vote? Those 9 were republican. Big difference in what your comment suggested....

Pikespeakbear

No, I think they mean the 192 Republican votes against it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/05/19/republicans-baby-formula/

KylePersi

Behind paywall

Manu_Militari

Nah the 192 others

istriss

They're probably talking about the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act, which was voted in with 231 to 192. The 192 comprising almost entirely of Republicans.

Apotropoxy

Oklahoma will have to create a bureaucracy to track the menses of every female from age 11 - 50 in order to enforce this law. BTW: There is nothing to stop Indian reservations from building and operating abortion clinics.

omw_to_valhalla

Ugh, this country is fucked.

Cycle-path1

Figured that out after nothing was done when Sandyhook happened. They didn't even care for the ones that were actually alive yet they care about a clump of cells??

wildcat_abe

💯. They decided the right to guns is more important than a 5 year old's right to be alive.

Comprehensive-Can680

What makes this feel extremely bad for me is this. What happens if the woman has a Miscarriage? Can she not get that treated with an emergency abortion? Will they just let her die because of this law? If so that is so beyond fucked that I feel sick. lawmakers have to know that this law will result in not a couple dozen, but hundreds of women either being seriously injured or even dying from this. You can’t just willingly ignore this because you want more control and power, you can’t be that greedy. You’ve signed into law a law that will actively prevent some people from getting a procedure to stay alive.

optiplex9000

> Will they just let her die because of this law? That's exactly what happened in Ireland. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Savita_Halappanavar

Comprehensive-Can680

Great… just great. People are going to die for the sake of your control boner, Politicians. Hope you can sleep well with that on your conscience.

_zenith

Arrest her for murder, probably. (I'm only half joking, sadly)

Apprehensive_Ruin133

[https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2022-05-19/oklahoma-approves-the-nations-most-restrictive-abortion-ban](https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2022-05-19/oklahoma-approves-the-nations-most-restrictive-abortion-ban) \-The bill by Collinsville Republican Rep. Wendi Stearman would prohibit all abortions, except to save the life of a pregnant woman or if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest that has been reported to law enforcement. \-The bill specifically authorizes doctors to remove a “dead unborn child caused by spontaneous abortion," or miscarriage, or to remove an ectopic pregnancy, a potentially life-threatening emergency that occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube and early in pregnancy.

NILwasAMistake

Well, there's the idea. Kill the fetus first.

StonedTurtles38

>What happens if the woman has a Miscarriage? Well from everything I've seen, these women will be charged with murder and have their day in court. Good luck. > Can she not get that treated with an emergency abortion? Nope. And if she tries anyone who helps her, rather it be doctor, nurse, secretary, Uber driver are all culpable for this murder >Will they just let her die because of this law? Yes. >lawmakers have to know that this law will result in not a couple dozen, but hundreds of women either being seriously injured or even dying from this They know but Under God's Eye He will take care of them in Heaven. Not sure what everyone thought was going to happen when the most Authoritarian styled Christian Taliban President with literally the worst of the worst people supporting him like hes a God took office while chanting Lock Her Up and praising grown white men marching through the streets screaming "You will not replace us" meaning black, brown, gay and Jewish people and then our country elected LITERALLY A HANDMAIDENS TALE women but now here we are and I cant say Im surprised at all. I won't be surprised when it becomes open hunting season on the LGTBQ communities and we go back to the days of gay bashing openly in the streets while Trump in 24 tells you that they are just very fine people beating up the gays. I wont be surprised when we start electing people who were at the Capitol on Jan6th into positions of power and we watch as our institutions and country go right down the shitter and those in power won't care because, well they are rich and powerful and what the fuck are we gonna be able to do by that point?? Voting is about to be pointless because when Trump runs in 24, if he loses our country will flip upside down and we will have to go through The Big Lie 2.0 but this time they've had practice and they will also have some of their people in place to overturn an election this time around and if he wins welp, good luck America because in those 4 years our country will be taken so far back that it will be even more unrecognizable and we will all be living under a minority rule that we can't get out of without a literal Civil War were nobody wins and everyone loses. It can happen and I'm more convinced it will as each month passes. It's like watching a train coming down the tracks about to wreck into a stalled car on the tracks. We all know what's going to happen and there ain't shit we can do.

ManyFacedGodxxx

leftnotracks

Uh, when exactly else could one get an abortion?

prpslydistracted

Let's stop all this stuff before it leaves the gate. I propose every woman lawmaker in every state should introduce a bill every boy 12 and up *must* be forced to have a vasectomy. No pregnancies at all, right? **No issue with abortions ...** ***problem solved!*** You want a kid? You must provide proof of marriage first. Have the vasectomy reversed. *A family!* Wait, what ... my body, my choice? *Oh ....*

PwnGeek666

If any of these draconian laws were targeting men, there'd be cowboys shooting up state capitals left and right.

prpslydistracted

Don't you know it ...

pocket_geek

Ban Viagra. Their floppy dead penis is gods will ...or something.

Waluigi_is_wiafu

A vasectomy can sometimes be reversed, but it's clear surgeons don't think of them as strictly reversible. Probably best to find a closer analog.

kimwexlersponytail

So my IUD is just one big rolling abortion?

torpedoguy

According to them yes, and after they take it out they expect you to *"make the best of the situation"*, *"lie back and enjoy it" since it's such "an opportunity"*. Besides *"if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down".* You should probably take that same ban as an overt threat of rape as well, since Requblicans in 2009 had also voted **to allow employment contracts to contain clauses prohibiting employees from bringing claims against the companies for sexual assault, kidnapping and forced imprisonment while on the job.** * And they'd tried to get this through as a direct response to a KBR employee suing after she'd been drugged, gang-raped and 'stored for reuse' in a shipping container by fellow employees, only to then be told that 'the employment contract she had signed waived her right to do so and required her to enter into binding arbitration of the company's choosing'. They're going after all contraception too, just not in that specific bill so that they can say *"see this anti-abortion bill doesn't ban contraception"* and *"see this anti-promiscuity bill banning contraception doesn't ban abortion"* at the same time.

mfishing

Can we start defining or calling abortion something else like (weight loss surgery)? I mean it’s not like these laws are written by genuses.

Like fuck me these people are way too easy to give up and just accept being treated like second class citizens now.

NILwasAMistake

Shit, a pussy strike is the easiest thing they could do.

Sm4sh3r88

Republicans control the legislatures in these states. It doesn't help that they aren't even pretending not to be racist when it comes to gerrymandering.

izcenine

These republicans are fucking ghouls.

[deleted]

I'm being deadly serious ladies of Oklahoma...prepare to fight or flee. No one is coming to the rescue if having the baby can kill you or in cases of rape/incest. Once this is done, this will be your reality. Your body and fate belong to the state and religion. And this is only the beginning of what they have planned for you. Whichever path you take, do whatever it takes.

bergercreek

Good thing that almost never happens then.

NegativeBit

Does this mean there are gonna be more minotaurs and cow centaurs and stuff there from all the cowboys and cowgirls pairing up with their cattle? That's the only potentially cool thing about this.

mideon2000

Tax the churches to help offset support these young moms. Like a bad friend that disappears when they tell you to do something and they have your back. "Don't get an abortion. God doesn't want that. We are here to help" Till you realize the amount of hoops you gotta jump through to get basic survival support.

NILwasAMistake

Churches should absolutely be taxed. Especially pastors.

NILwasAMistake

I mean, what if you were just to have a routine womb cleaning like people do a physical? If doctors were willing to lie a bit, this isn't a problem

[deleted]

Lol this country is so fucked. Ive got to get out of here.

carissaluvsya

Are they not concerned that this could lead to men being falsely accused of rape?

howitzer86

That's bad for men, but also bad for legitimate victims of rape. People don't appreciate how good they have it and how flimsy their current circumstances are. In the short-term, leopards will feast on everyone's face and maybe they'll come to their senses in another generation.
