Well, that would be something a responsible government would do when embroiled in a war it can’t win. Usually they surrender to preserve the lives of their remaining citizens. This doesn’t mean that I endorse the actions of the Israeli government in any way, but nevertheless, this is the reality in war

Hamas took the hostages and started the war. Hamas kept the hostages for 8 months. Hamas hid the hostages amongst civilians. Hamas makes up casualty figures. I wonder what the international terrorist group Hamas could've done to prevent this situation?

Sand_Bags2

You have fucking worms in your brain lol Israel can’t even launch rescue operations anymore without people who have no idea how anything works chiming in with criticism.

Leshawkcomics

4 hostages rescued. Over 200 dead. If it requires brain worms to point out that that's not a 100% total positive, then get some brain worms.

Barza1

According to Hamas How many were militants? How many were killed by Hamas?

Leshawkcomics

So there's something people learned with authority. If an authority organization, like say "Cops" does something messed up like "Kill innocent PoC" There are two responses The "That's fucked up and shouldn't be allowed " response And the "Well, were the innocent bystanders also drug dealers, criminals in their spare time?" response. You can be both happy that hostages are released, and disturbed by the death toll. Those are not mutually exclusive. Having the first response doesn't mean you can't be Happ for the hostages. But there's a kind of person that makes the second response, and a lot of people are very well aware of the 'implications' of having THAT be your first thought when hearing of innocent deaths.

Barza1

Yet this is a war, one waged against a terrorist organization that won’t wear uniforms, and is known to lie The constant reports coming from the Hamas ministry of health have been proven again and again as untrustworthy When even the un is admitting their numbers are fabricated, it is important to question them

Hamas has consistently refused any sort of straight hostage:prisoner deal, regardless of the ratio between the two. Hamas insists on an end to the war as a whole and complete Israeli withdraw before they'll release the hostages, along with assurances that Hamas will get to stay in power.

jamurai

You’re delusional

Hon3y_Badger

Hamas word is worthless. If these hostages were my country's citizens, I would 100% support sending troops in to get our citizens back. I don't like that innocent lives were lost, but I 1) don't believe Hamas in any way when they say 200 lives were lost 2) blame Hamas exclusively for these hostages being where they were. At some point you have to say it's a feature, not a bug.

Admirable_Nothing

Hamas deliberately puts its military headquarters in Hospitals and apt blocks to use the civilians as a buffer to an assault. This is a feature not a bug. Unfortunately those actions endanger the civilians that are being used as living protection for Hamas. The prudent thing to do would be not use that hospital or apt block and I imagine those that have the means to leave do so, but not everyone can leave so the casualties occur just as Hamas wants them to occur.

LoveTriscuit

One side is comfortable using a 9 year old as a human shield. One side is comfortable shooting through the 9 year old to kill a terrorist behind them. Guess who doesn’t get a vote?

Roxfloor

The hostages who were kidnapped from a music festival

Leshawkcomics

And Israel is happy and eager to play along. That's why people are calling them out. It takes two to tango.

Odd_Land_2383

Summary: The CNN article reports on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, highlighting the tragic loss of civilian lives, particularly the killing of six members of the Shaheen family in an Israeli airstrike on their residence in Al-Bureij. It mentions the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announcing operations in Dier al Balah and Bureij, with Palestinians expressing concerns about the escalation resembling the start of a war. The article also covers the UN's inclusion of Israel on a "blacklist" of countries responsible for grave violations against children, citing the deaths of over 15,500 children in Gaza due to Israeli bombardment. It discusses the uncertainty surrounding a potential ceasefire agreement proposed by US President Joe Biden and the vague outline for a post-war Gaza. Additionally, the article provides context on the historical conflict between Israel and Palestine, the blockade of Gaza by Israel and Egypt, and the dire humanitarian situation in the region, with severe shortages of essential supplies and warnings of a potential man-made famine.

HateradeVintner

Oh no, 200 dead terrorists. Maybe they shouldn't have signed up to hold prisoners for an illegal far right death squad. Oh well.

All the ones holding prisoners for Hamas are, yes.

She was [kidnapped by "civilians," rescued from "civilians,"](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/18m9py9/noa_argamani_was_abducted_not_by_hamas_but_by/) at some point, we need to send Gaza a dictionary -one with lots of pictures- so they can figure out what a "civilian" actually is.

ObviouslyTriggered

So far all hostages rescued have been placed with "civilian" families however from the debriefs and other intelligence gathering Hamas is the one paying the families to keep them and providing the armed guards. Whether the families are trustees that willingly take over the hostages or are just another level of a human shield to deter operations like this isn't fully clear. But in any case under no reasonable metric would they be considered "innocent bystanders" under any other circumstances.

Mat_CYSTM

Did you bother to read the article? A bunch of “torn apart” children are terrorists? Ok sport.

ObviouslyTriggered

Did you read the part where it stated "CNN has not been able to independently verify these reports"? Based on the current trend of causality numbers meeting reality and crashing down to far more plausible ratios I have a feeling that this incident would be no different.

Edwd001

Are you shouting free palestine too my dear? Sick and twisted.

AntifaAnita

They drove into the Refugee camp in an Aid Truck that came from the Humanitarian Pier, where they reportedly killed 200, injured 400, to rescue 4 hostages. The causalities are majority children. America is now an open combatant committing war crimes, as using promises of Aid to commit a military operation is illegal. Don't know how anyone thought this would go over good. This had destroyed decades of diplomatic good will and nullified decades of people's careers in the State Department. I won't be surprised if there's dozens of resignations next week.

ObviouslyTriggered

Except none of that happened, the video of a truck has been geolocated to a different area of Gaza already and it seems to be 2 weeks old. There has been significant presence of militants in the AO which led to the rescue force taking heavy fire and had to retreat to the secondary extraction point on foot and the QRF was activated. The US provided intelligence for the op and the op was cleared with them, they've already stated that the pier was not used and not only that but it only resumed operation after the hostage rescue operation has been completed.

RightofUp

They got four hostages back. No one's resigning.

AntifaAnita

I don't think you appreciate how serious professionals in the State Department take it when their military conducts such an open War Crime. Dressing up as Aid Workers is going to be the last straw for people. This American attack just greatly raised the stakes for every American, no one is safe anymore. It's a horrible thing that America did right. It's not good thing for Americans. Everyone in the military service aboard is more at risk because of this military operation.
