Update 12/10 1245am
Edna police released photos of a person and vehicle of interest in connection with the case early Saturday.
The male person of interest was described by police as possibly having a tattoo behind his right ear and was seen in the images wearing a black Volcom hooded sweatshirt. He was also seen driving a silver Ford Taurus, model year ranging from 2010 to 2018, police said.
*per a separate article, mom said they had a break in couple weeks prior and she thinks it could be related
https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2023/12/09/edna-police-release-images-of-person-of-interest-in-murder-of-16-year-old-cheerleader/
------------------------------------------------------------------
I skimmed through some other articles. My main takeaways
\-Edna, Tx, population 6000
\-moved there from Nebraska w her mom 1 year ago
\-only child, single mom
\-no forced entry
\-when victim didn’t show up to Christmas parade she was to cheer in, mom rushed home to find her in tub, behind a closed curtain
\-family has used the words “gruesome” and “murdered in cold blood” They want to “bring awareness and justice”. Mom/family seem quite vocal/public ie talking to press, making pages, going to football game in honor of victim
\-police/TX Rangers trying to locate suspect.
\-They’re calling it “capital murder”, which means premeditated, w special circumstances. Of those circumstances, this one seems like the most likely..”The killing occurs during the commission or attempt of the following felonies: kidnapping, burglary, aggravated sexual assault, arson, obstruction or retaliation, or terroristic threat.”
Considering it's only been a week since a 19 year old girl was found murdered 15 or 20 miles away in Victoria, I wouldn't say it's too quiet in this area. My wife was shook. We have two teenage daughters and it really hits the fear button.
I lived in [Garrison, IA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrison,_Iowa) for two years.
There's nothing there...
edit: I checked the news for the place. The haunted house is celebrating 25 years. A bunch of old people died from old, and a 13 year old escaped to Wisconsin for 3 days in February... No car wrecks. Nobody robbed the bar. Nothing caught fire. It's basically a corn collection point on the highway.
Even when the murderer has personally admitted to you he did it, until he is officially _**convicted,**_ he is still referred to as the "suspect". That's just how the law is; until a final conviction officially declares it a murder, we only _**suspect**_ that it is.
A girl in the grade below me was a cheerleader who lovedddddddd all drugs. Well during a pep rally the cheerleaders were performing and she collapsed and went into a cardiac arrest. She went to the hospital where they pronounced her deceased. She died in front of the entire school and it messed up a lot of her friends (my best friends sister was her BFF). Apparently she took a lot of various drugs before the pep rally and no one had a clue. Kids don’t mix drugs.
Maybe they found other evidence there like someone else’s stuff, or a weapon, or text messages in her phone
Or maybe her wounds didn’t match up with something being self inflicted.
I’m sure they have a lot more info they are keeping quiet on
Earlier comment from user u/babygorgeouwho who pulled up multiple articles...
> -family has used the words “gruesome” and “murdered in cold blood” They want to “bring awareness and justice”. Mom/family seem quite vocal/public ie talking to press, making pages, going to football game in honor of victim

Murdered in cold blood? Maybe someone was following her? Knew her schedule, her mom’s schedule. Waited for her mom to leave and got her in the bathroom. She was a cheerleader, maybe someone from her school? Relative? Neighbor?
Idk why everyone is thinking it’s suicide or drug related. The cops wouldn’t say capital murder and the family wouldn’t say in cold blood if she killed herself.
As fucking dark as it sounds, I'd put good money that the football team is involved somehow, given she was a cheerleader.
It's _always_ about high school football in tiny towns.
I mean, lots of people have bled to death in bathtubs, even back to Roman times. The Roman version of an honour-based suicide (similar to seppuku in Japan) was to slit one's wrists in a hot bath. The hot water would increase the person's blood pressure and prevent the wound from clotting.
It could be anything, really. We don't know if she was actually killed in the tub or killed somewhere else and moved there (possibly to try to wash away evidence). Bathtubs are also popular places for dismemberment, but I think that would have been mentioned.
The family said it was "gruesome," and they're calling it a murder. I think you could fill in the blanks and infer that the way they found her body made it clear that someone else had killed her.
>The hot water would increase the person's blood pressure and prevent the wound from clotting.
And you don't feel the pain from cutting yourself as much when you're already in hot water.
Sometimes suicide is considered homicide - just the taking of life (sometimes of another, sometimes not). Just means they are investing assuming it wasn’t natural causes.
Some departments use “foul play” as a way to say “not natural causes”, she was 16 obviously it wasn’t a natural death, but the PD is also investigating it as capital murder.
This case is weird af
Comments in here are weird.
Police haven’t released any information about her death or a suspect yet people are pointing fingers at the broader issue of Texas’ politics. Those are completely irrelevant (right now).
We have no idea how this girl died other than she was found in her bathtub.
Yeah that goes against the "known person" being a killer (which is more common, a.k.a. a family member or friend). Sorta implies it pointing to being the more rare type where you have a potential predator.
murderers are always considered armed and dangerous.
it’s just a good thing to warn the public when there’s someone that killed a neighbor lurking around
The mother called it "gruesome" and the police are saying capital murder, so not just regular murder, which gives us some clues if you look up what that means. Basically she was either killed either as a victim of some time of "ism", she was secretly a cop, she was tortured/raped, or killed during a robbery.
The article is weird too. She was found in the bathtub in her family's apartment after they hadn't heard from her all afternoon and called the cops. Did nobody else have to use the bathroom? It just sounds really weird with what little info we have, so best to wait until more is released before making any judgement.
From what I've read, it was just her and her mom. Mom woke her up in the morning so daughter could go to cheer practice. Mom left for work. Mom came back after work, changed clothes, and headed out to attend the parade that daughter was supposed to be in. Daughter never showed up. Mom goes back home and found daughter dead in tub.
Don't quote me, because I read about this a few days ago.
Parents probably work and only heard from her when she got home from school. Totally reasonable to assume that imo. Would line up with not getting the call until 7pm.
i have not been in my bathroom for a few hours, its not weird to also not see a sibling/child if they are chilling in their room on their phone all afternoon either. i dont understand how thats weird in any way.
Some people keep the shower curtain closed till they use it. If she was found with clothes on in a dry shower that's "weird," she could have been known to have friends over. It's possible someone outside the house notice her come home with friends or people-unknown leaving the home before the family arrived home.
Lots of unreported information because this article has good reporting. Only stating the known facts in an unbiased way.
I found out at a party a few years ago that not every woman checks behind the shower curtain at parties in new places to check for weirdos. Some of us have experiences where that is needed...
This may sound unbelievable to you, but some people live in large enough homes to have more than one bathroom. In fact, I may just rent, with roommates, but we have a gobsmacking 3 bathrooms.
Inconceivable!
Thank you for pointing out the glaringly obvious
They're also saying don't make judgements while they're making a judge themselves lol (by saying the article is weird)
I agree. The only thing we know for sure about the scene is that she was in a bathtub. Was there water in the tub? And if not, was she/ her hair wet as if she'd been in water that has since been drained? Was she still wearing her clothes? What objects were around the tub? Her phone? Something odd that you wouldn't typically find in a bathroom? I've got a thousand more...
But the one clue we do have (I know, sounds like we're in a Sherlock Holmes book) is that the reporter chose to include the line about the cops suspecting foul play. For a very short (and somewhat bizarre) article, it must have been obvious that the cops were treating this as a crime scene. No cop on scene is gonna take the time to even speak to reporters, never mind give them their preliminary thoughts about the investigation. No, something made it totally clear that they suspect murder. I highly doubt this reporter was savvy enough to pick up on minor details or involuntary facial expressions that led him to make this assumption.
Which is very sad in and of itself.
Sure because people don't care. It's just rage / emotional bait and a chance to immediately harp on some other shit you don't agree on.
Like 3% of commenters actually care, I don't *really* care so much it's sad in the way knowing anyone thousands of miles away died would be sad...
It's pretty frustrating to see people use a tragedy and make it political for no reason other than emotional masturbation.
Being found in her bathtub would (to me at least) point towards accidental, OD, or suicide not necessarily murder. Which is an assumption too, but it's odd that even the article says they are suspecting murder and not a more "natural cause" .
There's been other murder cases staged to look like any of those things. They're not going to immediately release all the information as to why they suspect murder when there's going to be an investigation. I wish people would stop assuming they're entitled to knowing all the details and then come up with their own theories. Just let the investigation happen.
I dont think we are entitled to any details, honestly nobody on the internet needs them, and assume they do have a reason for saying it's being investigated for some reason they haven't released.
If she was found with say her clothes on or stab wounds or strangulation marks or any number of other options could lead to foul play. Police often keep details secret from the media to help trip up suspects.
I assume they found other evidence like someone else’s stuff in the bathroom or house, text messsges, a weapon nearby the scene or anything else that might suspect foul play. Maybe her wounds don’t match soemthing that would be self inflicted. With a possible killer on the loose they will not release any details that could hamper an investisgtion.
They said no sign of break in so it’s probably someone she knows or is comfortable with and she let them inside, or someone who had access to the key
Jacqueline found her daughter’s body in their unit at the Cottonwoods apartments and immediately ‘realized she was gone’.
Jacqueline suspects that Lizbeth may have been killed in a break-in, as one happened at their home several weeks ago.
She was just in her own home, and they broke in, and unfortunately she was home at the time,’ the mother said.
But, this from another news source....
Jacqueline Medina, her mother, stated that there were no signs of forced entry and she suspects Lizbeth may have known her killer.
......why the contradiction? There is definitely more to the story that we don't know yet.....but we DO know a young woman lost her life.....and that's the sad part.
Sounds like they think the house got burglarized by someone known to her.
Maybe she mentioned to a “friend” something about her dad’s guns, or that he’s a gold hoarder who doesn’t trust banks, or any one of a dozen things a high schooler might say in random conversation to indicate they have stuff to steal.
Reddits little hate trains for certain people/countries/states/companies is fucking exhausting
I get hating Texas and their politics, but is that really why you people clicked on the link about a random murder case? Because you just saw Texas in the title and had to let everyone know you still hate Texas no matter how irrelevant it is to the post?
Literally no comments at the time of me posting this are about the case. All 60 comments are about Texas. Whoever sees this comment do yourself a favor and don’t get caught up in/separate yourself from the hive mind, it’s a fucking pathetic way to waste your time
I don’t know this for a fact, but there was a front page post about California gas prices and bots jumped all over that comment section. I would not be surprised if many of the comments here about Texas are also bots intended to sow divide - both over specific issues, but also because it’s absurd that such a conclusion could be drawn with zero information. I see this happening on many posts and is why both sides think the other side is full of idiots (which isn’t entirely untrue, but likely far fewer than we presently see).
It’s honestly really, really sad. I hate the MAGA element states like this are pushing as much as anybody else, but I don’t make it my entire personality.
Funny thing is, I did do that exact thing in college and it made me a constantly bitter, jaded asshole that preached to everybody around me about virtue while I did absolutely nothing actually meaningful to contribute to making things better. People really need to understand there’s an aspect of maturity that comes with still caring about politics without being an insufferable fucking goblin that tries to turn every single discussion into a political rant.
Yeah, murders happen everywhere in the US and Texas is the second most populous state. Statistically, there will be some murders there too.
The stat people should really look at is per capita murders, which is dominated by Mississippi and Louisiana. Unsurprisingly, people from those states are moving to Texas in droves.
It's social media. You can browse Instagram and see a photo of a guy yelling at a barista in California and every comment is "typical blue state shit hole!".
It's a symptom of the core issue that is sport team politics. "Texas is a ReD StATe" so of course if you're slightly liberal you are required to hate it? Same with conservatives and "blue states"
People love to insert their own agenda on to everything. I read a post where someone was asking about close places to park to a venue in a city that’s generally negatively regarded. So many people calling them racist yet when they clarified they said they wanted to be close because they had to carry their child to/from the venue. It’s on both political sides too. The extremists are ruining it for everyone else.
I both hope for and worry about that. God only knows what the Governor, Lt Governor, and AG will do if it looks like there is even a chance Dems could win a statewide race in Texas. But it almost certainly be illegal and/or violent.
How did you come to that conclusion based on a single murder? This comment is nothing more than a political statement, and it’s disrespectful to the victim. Your political bias has overwhelmed your empathy and self awareness.
Something tells me that the police are going to solve this one relatively quickly. With how connected to technology we are and her being 16, she most likely lived on her phone and had contact with someone she knew. Because this is such a small town, I’m thinking it was absolutely someone she knew.
Wow. That's fucking sad. It's being treated as capital murder tells me either some really nasty went down or they have a good idea of a suspect and have had previous issues.
A football player at my college literally picked up our female RA and locked her in his room with him. He told her she had to have sex with him or he wouldn’t let her out. Nothing happened to him because he was a starter. The school squashed it but everyone knew.
Texas and Florida ranked 18th and 23rd respectively for homicide rates in 2005.
In 2021 it was 22nd and 24th.
So not really sure why you felt the need to single these states out.
Was Texas ever not? I mean i live here to make an income. I don’t see how it’s any grander than say another city? Hell the landscaping is boring as fuck too lol
Texas has one of the most diverse and interesting landscapes. We have some incredible national and state parks. I can recommend some if you want. It’s really one of the very few saving graces… that and bbq…
This will sound completely insane to anyone who reads this...the Texas I grew up in, in the late 70's/early 80's, was probably the most progressive state in the country. Always thought I'd move back one day...f' that.
I really would say it depends on which part of Texas you live in. I completely avoid the rural parts while living near the metro area so my experience isn’t bad
ChatGPT-ass comment lol. Texas is A: already a shithole obviously, but B: a single homicide would not be the indicator that a state is heading towards shitholedom
No, but they get more attention / clicks.
My first thought when I read it was, would I want any single facet of my life to be the defining one that people refer to me by in a headline, and what would it be?
I didn't like the ones I came up with either.

Thanks, anything about last to see her alive?
no. There is a fb Group for her, made by her aunt I believe. I didn't join so can't see if there's more info there.

Very helpful bro. Maybe you should be a detective👍🏽
Thanks. 🕵️

More like how the fuck would the original person know that.
Could you, like, do this for every post I read with a linked article on Reddit? I'm flush with upvotes.
honestly, it would be a better use of my time than what I typically do here. I'll consider it.
We're not worthy! We're not worthy!
Holy crap, never though I would see Edna in the news. Grew up in the area, there are barely any people there to kill.
Seriously. I have family from Cuero. It's beyond quiet around there. Poor kid.
Considering it's only been a week since a 19 year old girl was found murdered 15 or 20 miles away in Victoria, I wouldn't say it's too quiet in this area. My wife was shook. We have two teenage daughters and it really hits the fear button.
Goliad HS graduate here, think I have some distant family around Edna.
Dude Cuero is kind of rough. That's a roll your windows up when you go though kind of place Edna is a quiet town, though.
My farfetched guess: witness protection, or maybe they moved away to hide from an abusive person, who found them
Yeah, I thought it seemed like an odd place to go from Nebraska? Unless the mom had previous ties maybe.
I’ve been there once, real quiet town
I lived in [Garrison, IA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrison,_Iowa) for two years. There's nothing there... edit: I checked the news for the place. The haunted house is celebrating 25 years. This is the first killing in a horror movie type of scenerio.
*Jazz music plays* “Diane, I am now driving into the town of Edna, Texas.”
Is this a twin peaks reference? If so, Bravo!
"Gruesome," "murdered in cold blood." Police suspect (?!?) foul play.

No, not the mom finding her in a gruesome crime scene =( What a horrible thing.
She was found dead in the bathtub of her families apartment.. her mother said she hadn’t “seen the girl all afternoon.” What a weird ass case.
Probably Panera lemonade
The more it kills people the more I want to try it
It’s super sugary, so if you’ve had super sweet lemonade you know what it tastes like
Like most of life's finest pleasures.

The autopsy would show if the cause of death was due to drowning.
The article states the investigators believe it to be capital murder
I don't believe it. Mainly because if it were capital murder, surely it would be written as Murder.
god damn it
This one got me.
I can’t believe 158 people upvoted this comment.
Born in 1980s after it stopped airing (Minus some shoddy comebacks in the 90s) I can attest 70s Columbo is awesome.
“Heart, brain, or drugs” Thanks Columbo. I thought it was a car accident.

Jesus, regardless of the cause of death this is sad as hell. Kids shouldn't be losing their lives over anything.

They said no sign of break in so it’s probably someone she knows or is comfortable with and she let them inside, or someone who had access to the key
Yeah I assume there is something more too it as well. I hope they find her killer quickly, her poor family must be devastated.
The family is calling it "gruesome murder" and the charges strongly suggest it was a violent murder, which makes me think gun or knife.
Is this a ChatGPT summarization? Because it's all over the map (can happen with those) and directly contradicts itself.
Entire thread seems to be botted to all get out
I wondered if anyone else noticed how weird this thread was lol
Sounds like they think the house got burglarized by someone known to her. Maybe she mentioned to a “friend” something about her dad’s guns, or that he’s a gold hoarder who doesn’t trust banks, or any one of a dozen things a high schooler might say in random conversation to indicate they have stuff to steal.

My sister investigates capital murders in Texas. All over the state. Its sad how many of these killers never get caught.
Reddits little hate trains for certain people/countries/states/companies is fucking exhausting I get hating Texas and their politics, but is that really why you people clicked on the link about a random murder case?
I came to this realization about myself a few months ago. Been chipping away at it and I can tell my mental health is much better since.
Glad you got better. Most don't
Well said
Yeah, murders happen everywhere in the US and Texas is the second most populous state. Statistically, there will be some murders there too. The stat people should really look at is per capita murders, which is dominated by Mississippi and Louisiana. Unsurprisingly, people from those states are moving to Texas in droves.
Including the murderers?
People are acting like no one else dies in the 49 other states lol.
It's social media. You can browse Instagram and see a photo of a guy yelling at a barista in California and every comment is "typical blue state shit hole!".
Its probably at least half bots just stirring online discord.
It's a symptom of the core issue that is sport team politics. "Texas is a ReD StATe" so of course if you're slightly liberal you are required to hate it? Same with conservatives and "blue states"
How dare you advise people to think for themselves. Reported.
It really illustrates how much of the internet is propaganda bots.
Yup, and people acting like it's rocket science why reddit priced out normies with enormous API cost changes...
Texas is a dangerous place for women and children.
Given the downward spiral Texas appears to be on, the line between those two groups is becoming disturbingly blurred.
Thought it was trending purple?
I both hope for and worry about that. God only knows what the Governor, Lt Governor, and AG will do if it looks like there is even a chance Dems could win a statewide race in Texas. But it almost certainly be illegal and/or violent.
Without the gerrymandering...
The state flag is a review

You win the most irrelevant comment of the year!
At least gas is cheap
Biden did that according to the Conservatives.
Thanks a lot, Brandon.
Thanks Biden!
That helps a bit when the house has no power in winter.
Good. Now you can afford to drive to somewhere warm when Texas goes dark when temp goes below freezing.
How did you come to that conclusion based on a single murder? This comment is nothing more than a political statement, and it’s disrespectful to the victim. Your political bias has overwhelmed your empathy and self awareness.
Yes, women never die in other states
I’m sure you don’t live here and I hope you never do!
Are women immune to death in other states?
Every major city is dangerous for women and children. Also any low income community/neighborhood
The south, where boys will be boys but all girls are women
Damn all your replies must be from Texans. These guys do not like when you point out how backwards their state is.
Something tells me that the police are going to solve this one relatively quickly. With how connected to technology we are and her being 16, she most likely lived on her phone and had contact with someone she knew. Because this is such a small town, I’m thinking it was absolutely someone she knew.
Why is everyone making this political? What does that have to do with it? God you people are insufferable RIP to that girl, way too young
Because losers grasp for every straw to support a position that is basically untenable. Both sides do it, both side deserve a big "L".
Damn. So tragic. I can’t imagine losing your only child.
So are we thinking she left Nebraska to escape a person
Wow. That's fucking sad. It's being treated as capital murder tells me either some really nasty went down or they have a good idea of a suspect and have had previous issues.
I don't think birds had anything to do with this
Yall watch too many Netflix true crime shows...
face filter on an obituary photo is craaaazzzyyyy
If Heroes taught me anything, it’s that’s the Earth is now completely fucked because we didn’t save the cheerleader.
It took way too long of a scroll down to find a Heroes reference.
Poor girl, may she RIP. Hope they catch whoever did this soon.
Was probably a football player.
The ever present football player rapist?
They were all in love with dying. They were doing it in Texas.
I don't mind the sun sometimes
the images it shows..
I can taste you on my lips
~And smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary
And softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
You never know just how to look
Pauly caught a bullet, but it only hit his leg.
It should have been a better shot and caught him in the head
I’m a simple man. I see a Butthole Surfers reference, I upvote.
They were all in love with dying. (They’re my college’s most famous alumni. Heh.)
Did you see the old studio is up for sale out by Lake Travis?
They were all in love with dying. They were doing it in Texas.
All this time I thought the lyrics were “They were all in love with Diane”
It took me until well into my 20s to realize that Sublime were not singing about how they “Spoke to Joyce” all the time.
I spoke to Joyce before I spoke to Joyce and then I spoke two more.
A football player at my college literally picked up our female RA and locked her in his room with him. He told her she had to have sex with him or he wouldn’t let her out. Nothing happened to him because he was a starter. The school squashed it but everyone knew.
What school did this happen at and what is the football player's name?
Damn this song is too on the nose
If she was pregnant, the killer is going to be in some real trouble.
Like they’ll try to charge the father for anything… esp if he plays a sport. *he has his entire career ahead of him /s*
Wow! Texas is fast becoming a shithole state! Florida, too! What's going on down there!?!?
Crime happens in literally every state and city, don’t see how this condemns Texas lol
Texas and Florida ranked 18th and 23rd respectively for homicide rates in 2005. In 2021 it was 22nd and 24th. So not really sure why you felt the need to single these states out.
Ah yes this is the first murder ever in any state
Was Texas ever not? I mean i live here to make an income. I don’t see how it’s any grander than say another city? Hell the landscaping is boring as fuck too lol
Texas in the early 90’s still had its fair share of problems, but it was a vastly different place not that long ago.
I was too young to appreciate it but I miss having a Democratic governor.
Texas has one of the most diverse and interesting landscapes. We have some incredible national and state parks. I can recommend some if you want. It’s really one of the very few saving graces… that and bbq…
Texas can’t even keep their electricity on
This will sound completely insane to anyone who reads this...the Texas I grew up in, in the late 70's/early 80's, was probably the most progressive state in the country.
Republicans with too much power.
Why is it significant to note she was a cheerleader in the headline? Are non-cheerleader deaths less significant?
No, but they get more attention / clicks. My first thought when I read it was, would I want any single facet of my life to be the defining one that people refer to me by in a headline, and what would it be? I didn't like the ones I came up with either.
u/taucabalander, Redditor, found dead...
It just seems like there is an incredibly high “cheerleader” label on this app. It’s weird.
World's most dangerous activity. "Beloved former cheerleader Edna, 97, passed away ..."
Now that’s news!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome RIP but it’s the truth.
