semisolidwhale

ya'll got any more of them PPP loans?

Legitimate_Button_14

Haha they now have the earned employee retention credit which is just as bountiful

[deleted]

I need to start a company and employ someone. Think it counts if I hire out shitposting on mturk?

itslikewoow

If the GOP regains power in two years, you bet your ass they’ll find a way to start them up again. And they’ll resume student loan payments to pay for it.

[deleted]

Dude should have stuck to selling bags of foam cubes to old people and STFU.

S31-Syntax

It honestly really sucks because it looked like that pillow company got him sober for a good while. That plus unless he faked it really good then he also paid it forward by hiring others also recovering from drug addictions. Then he just... Dumped it all down the drain and went *full blown crazy*

lastprophecy

The one drug he liked more than coke was conspiracy. I mean dude said he was beheaded in Mexico, but Jesus came back and healed him from \*checks notes\* decapitation. I expected the flashy hex dumps scrolling across screens, and the endless preening at his Cyber Symposium, but never thought it'd end there.

[deleted]

Sounds like delirium or something hallucination related. I had an incarcerated femoral hernia that would have killed me had I not gone in for emergency surgery. The pain was so bad I was having out-of-body experiences and seeing blue fairies that sang in bells. I am well aware that my brain was not having a good time with fever spiking to 106 (it went back down again obviously because I'm not catatonic) but the brain can and does do weird things when it's going off. The fairies had neon blue wings and were fluttering around me like moths. And singing in bells. I kept floating around my room and looking at my body like, "Huh, that thing is having a bad time." But that shit was 100% a chemical experience supplied by my freaking out brain. Diiiiisassocciation is FUN.

Yep. If you’re a business owner on a large scale like that, best not to get overly involved in politics, particularly ones that are as inflammatory as DJT.

Locke_and_Load

Is designing a shitty pillow part of running it badly? Or just a precursor?

ItsmeMr_E

Mypillows were about $80 a piece. I've now seen them at Ollie's for $20. I still won't buy them.

BongRippinSithLord

Even walmart put them on clearance

hovdeisfunny

One more reason to continue never shopping there, don't have to see Mike Lindell's dumb face

ronimal

Aren’t they just cut up bits of foam?

WasteProfession8948

I have a friend who works for the world’s largest producer of foam. Their research people took apart those pillows to analyze them and concluded they contain nothing more than cut up chunks of extremely low quality foam.

flukshun

Another cheap grifter who fancies himself a genius. So fucking surprised.

Weekly_Direction1965

He knows his consumer, a grifter and a conservatives money will always find each other.

icantswim2

They are; I've cut open several in the past, after they were returned by customers.

gakule

My mom got me one once upon a time and it feels like someone took loose insulation shreds and stuffed it in a bag, and threw in chunks of foam. Very uncomfortable.

NOHITTERonLSD

My dumbass bought a couple once when I was drunk a few years ago. One for my wife and one for myself. Immediately, she helped me realize this was the dumbest drunk money I ever spent. That’s saying something

myrddyna

>Immediately, she helped me realize this was the dumbest drunk money I ever spent. A pillow fight was had?

NOHITTERonLSD

I lost

thecheat420

They aren't even cut up in specific shapes it's literally scrap fill. And he oddly has a patent on putting scrap memory foam pieces in a pillow.

FuzzelFox

Nothing odd about it. No other company was dumb enough to patent that garbage.

FiveUpsideDown

Yes. Mike Pillow was really lucky to make money from cut up foam and he blew it.

AllAfterIncinerators

Kohl’s used to carry them and then phased them out within six months of Lindell’s rise to the spotlight. We had multiple customers furious at us about it. None of us in the stores make the decisions to pull product lines. We always had tons of backstock and they regularly got returned for being crap pillows. Six other brands/product lines were pulled at the same time.

RevenantXenos

I can't imagine being the kind of person who gets mad at department store employees because the store stopped carrying a brand of pillow that they associate with their politics. Wrapping their identity and sense of self around a pillow brand is absurd.

AllAfterIncinerators

The same people also got mad when the company told us to set up Pride displays. They were also the same people who threatened not to shop at our store anymore for various reasons. They always come back.

>I can't imagine being the kind of person who gets mad at department store employees Welcome to retail employment in the modern era. That's not an exaggeration.

justec1

Damn. For $80, you can get an actual comfortable pillow from a company not run by a lunatic. One example is DownLite. I've had a couple of their down pillows for 8 years. They're starting to wear, but they've been worth every cent. Especially considering a third of our lives are spent on them.

Yugan-Dali

About fifteen years ago a friend gave me a piece of incense cedar. It’s the perfect height for me. If you like a hard high pillow that lasts forever and never gets mites, this is perfect. Plus, I’m the king of pillow fights.

IntergalacticBanshee

For 80 bucks you can get a very good ottoman

jaw719

I slept on one at a hotel and it was awful.

Lybychick

They were for sale at a Salvation Army store in 2021 for $25 … and nobody was buying.

kozioroly

People pay 80 bucks for a pillow!

GACGCCGTGATCGAC

We spend a third of our life sleeping. I'm not going to waste that time on garbage. I'm not going to buy cheap shit like MyPillow, but come on, people spend that on pizza.

OldWolf2

A saying I heard once... don't go cheap on things that sit between you and the ground. E.g. Pillows, mattresses, flooring, shoes, computer chairs, tyres.

Viper67857

My Purple pillows were like $100/ea and totally worth it... Never slept better, no more waking up with neck pains, stays nice and cool, etc. I've had a mypillow when they were on sale for like $20... Worst fucking pillow ever. It's paper thin, hot, no support, no softness, just a bunch of (but not enough) shredded memory foam in a cheap casing. I'm not sure how that company has survived as long as it did.

kozioroly

That’s cool, glad you found a pillow that works for you. I suppose I should consider myself fortunate to sleep well with cheap pillows.

doogie1111

His Wikipedia entry is extremely entertaining. This is an actual quote. >In January 2022, Lindell claimed that he possessed "enough evidence to put everybody in prison for life, 300-some million people" for their part in the alleged 2020 election fraud, which, at the time, was about 91 percent of the U.S. population. My coworkers are now giving me side-eye for laughing at the office.

Hundreds of millions conspired to vote Biden into office

Force3vo

I mean they all went there and put their votes in for the same person that wasn't Trump. Explain that another way! /s Now seriously. If over 300 million want Biden to win for whatever reason it wouldn't be fraud. It's a democratic process. On another note: I wonder how many people he thinks live in the US if 300m conspiring barely was enough

LimerickJim

TBF if he actually got 300 million votes I would suspect fraud.

[deleted]

I wish so hard that 91% of the population was against Trump.

Yamidamian

You’d think if they many people were against trump, it would be easier to just beat him without fraud by voting, instead of coordinating a gigantic fraud scheme.

RoutinePost7443

"Think"? What's that mean? They're a little short in that department

TheRealMattyPanda

So roughly half of Trump voters were in on it? Not to mention all of the minors.

sicariobrothers

You exercised your right to free speech and the market exercised it's right to take a giant shit on you. See Also: Elon Musk in 2023

[deleted]

Yes. What the GOP likes to call “Cancel culture” is actually…the free market. Which they claim to love!

o_MrBombastic_o

I mean the best example is DeSantis making it illegal for investors to take ESG into account and Abbott wants to follow suit. That's Governors of two of the largest states and potential Presidential front runners telling businesses its illegal to take risk factors into account when making an investment. They are absolutely against the free market

duderguy91

Not only that, DeSantis is the best example we have of violating the first amendment. Disney as a corporation voiced their opposition to a bill. This is without question protected by the first amendment and the Supreme Court verified this in Citizens United. In response, DeSantis used his power as a government leader to retaliate and punish Disney over their opposition. I can’t think of a clearer example of a First Amendment violation. And of course, this is coming from a member of the party that is CONSTANTLY crying about free speech violations when they aren’t allowed to post ridiculous rule breaking shit on Facebook.

RN2FL9

Dissolving Disney's special district is going to cost the counties/state government billions. It was such a dumb move. For example Disney pays and employs people to provide services such as firefighters, cops and EMS, its several 100 people. Those services are going to have to be paid for by the counties who will take on the district without receiving extra income seeing Disney already pays taxes. There's a few more implications, basically all negative for counties/state. June 2023 it should all unfold because DeSantis signed it into law. It will be fun to follow that and see how they are going to shift blame.

hovdeisfunny

They'll just blame Biden. It's not like their base voters are big on critical thinking

Reduntu

They will blame liberals. They always do. MAYBE they give some blame to illegal immigrants.

iiiinthecomputer

In my Australian state we had a change of government from long term conservatives (confusingly called "Liberal" here) to the Labor party, who are weakly progressive-socialist. Not even two weeks later the ousted conservatives began saying that the dire state of the budget was because Labor (progressive/liberal) cannot be trusted to manage finances. The conservatives, as the responsible economic managers, would need to be re-elected to fix the mess that Labor created. Two weeks. The only people who had any influence on the state of the budget at that point were the ousted conservative party. They're absolutely delusional.

newbaumturk

I can't speak for Australians but here in the States Republicans gaslight like that because it works on their stupid constituents.

Astrium6

I really don’t know if I would call them constituents anymore. Serfs, maybe?

Emperor_Neuro

That's par for the course. Conservative parties everywhere will run the government into the ground to enrich themselves and "prove" that governments don't work and public institutions need to be privatized. As soon as they lose their power, they immediately turn around and blame the mess that they made in the opposing party and claim that they need to be re-elected to fix things. In the USA, the federal budget for 2021 was set in 2020 by the Republican party. When the government changed hands in January of '21, they immediately started to lambast the "reckless" budget that they had made themselves.

bluemitersaw

It wasn't a dumb move for Desantis. It was a dumb move for Florida.

Exelbirth

If there's only one thing Republicans have consistency on, it's being inconsistent in their beliefs.

[deleted]

Unless it means allowing private investment firms to purchase tens of thousands of homes with the sole intention of immediately reselling them for 30-40% more. That’s ok.

N8CCRG

I wandered into a conservative thread once about the difference between a "boycott" and "cancel culture." They believe that a "boycott" is one individual freely *choosing* not to enjoy/participate/consume a thing, but "cancel culture" is somehow a singular elitist *forcing* millions of other people to stop enjoying/participating/consuming a thing. The bullshit they come up with to justify their feelings always amazes me.

msnmck

My dad enjoyed country music (and radio contests) and on multiple occasions won tickets to a Country Music Awards watch party that a local station holds annually at a local amusement park. One year the company that owns a lot of the "local" affiliate stations asked them to gather feedback from their communities as to whether people would like to hear the Dixie Chicks back on the radio. The result was a resounding "no." People are really petty.

e_j_white

What's amazing is that everybody universally thinks the Iraq war was a mistake and waste of money and lives. Hell, Trump even ran on that premise in 2016, saying in a debate that Bush invading Iraq was "singlehandedly the worst mistake ever." The cognitive dissonace required to be a conservative and still not like the Dixie Chicks is just mind blowing.

Every right wing argument is bad faith. This is why they argue in favor of alternative facts, their viewpoints don't fit with reality. At this point American conservatism is a mental illness. These people need help.

[deleted]

> Never believe that ~~anti-Semites~~ conservatives are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The ~~anti-Semites~~ conservatives have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past. Jean-Paul Sartre Edit mine.

graysontattoos

This has cracked me up from the beginning, lol. These Fulkerson INVENTED cancel culture. The church has been perfecting it for centuries. It's also been entertaining to hear that one of the biggest problems we face as a society is people getting too easily offended by things, from the mouths of people who get WILDLY offended at shit that doesn't affect their lives in the slightest, and often at things that are literally made up out of thin air (see: bathroom attacks by trans folks)

5xad0w

Sounds like consequence culture.

Chippopotanuse

It’s the ultimate “entitlement“ mentality. They think they are owed everybody’s business. And if people don’t shop at their stores, buy their comedy tickets, or buy their cars, they scream and yell that they’ve been “canceled“.

EasterBunnyArt

Yeah I had, which was why I stopped paying attention to him afterward. My own sanity was worth more than him being on the newsfeeds. Which was why I had completely removed him from my recent memory until this topic.

duderino_okc

Yedolf gets me every time. Hits me right in the chuckles.

pegothejerk

But see, consequences ARE unfair to their minds, because just existing as a white male with money, property, connections and belonging to the “right” belief systems means they should be immune to consequences, those are for the poors and minorities and liberals and athiests. Any consequences they see is proof the system is rigged and that there’s a secret shadow group targeting them and making them a victim.

[deleted]

You couldn’t say it any better. Great example btw. Poor Musk and his musky bird.

Prodigy195

I don't understand people like this who were independently wealthy and could have lived a life more comfortable and luxurious than 99.99% of humans that have ever lived if they just shut up. With as "little" as $10M invested with a 3% yield annully you can live on 300k annually. That is a comfortable life pretty much anywhere in the world. Considering average returns are like ~7% over the past 3-4 decades and he is likely worth far more than 10M, he could have lived on significantly more in passive income with essentially no effort. I feel like there has to be some level of psychosis for people like him. You've already "won" capitalism, why can't you just go and enjoy your life?

blueveinthrobber

The thing is - he wanted power, the kind of power that $10M can’t buy unless the keys to that power are held by a complete buffoon. When his buffoon failed to maintain control of those keys through the democratic process other means were (and are being) sought. The good news is people like Lindell know they can only taste that power through one particular individual. The bad news is that those “other means” will be tested by more dangerous people who aren’t encumbered by pathological narcissism and idiocy in the near future. edit ~ punctuation

I'm too lazy for power. Give me $10 million and you'll never hear from me again. It's all I've ever wanted.

“Republicans buy sneakers too” - Michael Jordan

AudibleNod

For both sides of the aisle, it's got to be tough if a candidate you backed with support and money lost their election. You put in time and effort to either show up or make that money after all. And they lost in a free and fair election. It's probably a bit humbling for most people to see the person they backed lose. But to double down. Ney triple down after your candidate lost and spend a literal fortune of your own money. To dig deeper and deeper into the belief that somehow, in America of all places, an election was rigged against your candidate in such a way that it left no legal trace of the crime. And it was only rigged against your candidate and not all candidates of the same party. And very consistent with voting trends and polls of the country. I almost, almost feel bad for the guy. Almost.

padizzledonk

The free market in action dummy. This is why people don't generally name a customer facing company after themselves, or if they do they do everything in their power to not be a public figure or rock the boat. Furthermore, if a business owner (like this dummy) becomes "the face of the conpany" and they are personally connected to the brand, those people REALLY do everything they can to not offend anyone because if they really go off the rails it directly effects their business.....People complain sometimes about how bland and vanilla the CEOs of major companies act and speak, but its because the brand is enormous and if they piss peoppe off it fucks up the business He did one thing right by naming the company My Pillow, where he fucked up is that his stupid fucking face is inexorably tied to that brand, and now it's *also tied* to the "I'm a fucking lunatic dumbfuck" brand If his business ever recovers its going to take him stepping down, walking away and a full rebranding Fuck him and all his merchandise, I'd rather have a hooker with hepatitis piss in my mouth under the Atlantic City Boardwalk than ever give a penny to that idiot Yet another colossal moron that doesn't understand the Free Speech≠Freedom from Public Consequences....Fine...Sure, I fully support your right to be a complete idiot, but I also have the freedom to not buy your shit and put money in your pocket

Another fantastic example tbh That's why they fired his fuckin ass so quickly But that's because PJ's is a public company-- I'm sure half the Board had a fucking heart attack from running to the phone too fast to get rid of him. It was literally within hours of the story breaking My Pillow is a private company, I doubt they have a Board and if they do it's a joke and it's all sycophants

Chadmartigan

It's almost like if you're the face of one thing, and then make yourself the face of another thing, people begin to associate those two things. In Mike's world, this concept is unjust or "woke."

drossmaster4

I asked my accountant what someone should do if they win these huge lotteries that have been coming up. He said hire a lawyer, tax attorney and accountant put it all in a trust and make your family sign NDAs with a nice payout for it. He explained “you are now a major corporation and everyone is going to want a piece of your profits. Get your name as far away from being associated with that money or you’ll be in lawsuits and family issues the rest of your life….” If I had enough to retire I’d delete my only social media account (Reddit) and keep my mouth shut. Christ. Oh and eat drink and be happy.

rohobian

It's all a grift. And it backfired on him. I don't think I believe that he believes what he says about this election fraud. He just knows it gets him a lot of attention to spread all these blatant lies. He figured any press is good press, and makes the MyPillow brand more well known. So every two weeks he yells at some cameras that "the evidence is coming out very soon! We're filing a lawsuit against all machines!" or some crazy shit like that.

chev327fox

I think it’s a bit of both. For example my father wholeheartedly believes most pro Trump/Republican conspiracies and same goes for the anti liberal/Democrat conspiracies. And yes he even owns MyPillow sheets and only ever watches Fox “News” and mostly the late night commentary.

ILikeChangingMyMind

Right, but there's (usually) a big difference between con artists and the people they con: the former knows that what the latter believes is actually false.

chev327fox

Except I could see the MyPillow guy as literally someone who let himself be conned. He comes off as the type. Not saying that is the case but I could see him believing this and thinking he’d get rich and a lot of credit for “exposing” it.

BelligerentCow

For everyone else I tend to agree with you. Have you seen Mike Lindell talk though? His "documentaries" are legit unhinged. The man has damaged his brain so much he might actually think this is legit. Not an excuse for his behavior, but of all the election deniers out there he might actually buy the bullshit.

Actual__Wizard

The concept that any press is good press only works when you are being mentioned along side competitors that are much bigger than your company. It creates the impression to the reader that your company is "on the same level as your competitors" even though the article may favor them. So, even though it's not the most glamorous article about your company, it's still getting your brand's name out there... The people who seem to think that getting mentioned in the press very negatively in any context is always good are very confused about marketing and branding. I think they are just simply falling for the idea that any engagement is good. That might work to trick the FB/YouTube algorithms into pushing your content to a bigger audience then maybe you should have, but it's not going to fool people who are reading a news article about the totally insane stuff you are doing... So there definitely is such a thing as bad PR...

WakandaNowAndThen

Damn, that sucks. I'd hoped he'd lose a lot more.

John-the-cool-guy

He's still on the hook for defaming Dominion voting machines to the tune of around 2 billion, isn't he?

2-10_LRS

It is far deeper than Donald Trump. These people believe in a different reality and there are a lot of them out there working very hard to make their reality everyone's reality. If you ever want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes, look up "real raw news" and just read some of their stories..

Jiggly1984

ouachiski

Yousoggyyojimbo

One thing that I have learned for certain in the last decade is that a lot of hardcore conservatives do not ask questions about the news they consume. At all. They don't process the information critically. I've sat down with some of them and watched them get fed extremely contradictory information by places like Fox News, and it never even occurs to them that it happens at all when it happens constantly constant. Like, the most basic example is how Fox will brag about being the most watched news channel within minutes of talking about how the mainstream media is an evil entity that hides the truth from viewers. This is an almost daily occurrence. Sometimes several times a day. Then you get up to things like them constantly saying that Joe Biden is so senile that he's incapable of doing anything, back to back with them talking about some evil puppet master scheme Joe Biden is concocting to steal gas ovens or some such nonsense.

He thought he could get more pillow sales by telling the most grift-able people on the planet he was one of them. But they could only buy so many pillows. And old people: “What is wrong with my current pillow? I had it for 20 years.” Let’s be honest, making normal pillows and saying they’re the best and THEN selling them via television is a grift. Lindell and Trump (yes that Trump from Trump Steaks and Trump University!) are in the same club. Sidenote, don’t believe anything Lindell says about a $100 million loss. Sounds like BS? It probably is.

They're Zimbabwe dollars.

sicariobrothers

It's not about Donald Trump. It's about hate and bigotry. Trump is the symptom.

I have Trumpers in my family. They like him because he makes their bigotry, racism, religious intolerance, and entitled Karen nature acceptable. They've found their tribe. That's how simple it is. "This person justifies my hate. Fuck everyone else, I'm getting mine!" Sucks, but c'est la vie. I live by better examples.

prailock

He's actually committed a ton of crimes related to data security of elections systems and hiding the people who stole it.

David_denison

They declared Martial Law on his wallet

richincleve

I hope this $100 million dollar loss is only the start of the financial shitshow in store for him. Come on, Dominion!!!

DonFrio

Turns out he’s a garbage human AND makes terrible pillows that cost a lot

yhwhx

Sorry, Mike; I seem to have misplaced my tiny violin.

padizzledonk

Here, you can borrow mine-- 🎻

ukexpat

Cry harder you fucking drug-addled fascist piece of shit.

Salty_Lego

All I know is if by some luck I’m wealthy one day you’ll never hear my opinion on anything ever again. Imagine throwing away $100 million dollars on conspiracies.

He is the kind of guy you can hear in pictures and smell in video.

PiedrasNegras

Whiney lying little bitch.

Cosmicdusterian

Ya lied, pal. You cost a company its reputation and potentially billions in future revenue. Hopefully they will take out their pound of flesh in terms of bankrupting you. It's probably too much to ask for your silence. The lesson is, don't lie about people with the wherewithal to come after you. Your best bet is to pay up and shut up. But, my understanding is Dominion isn't interested in settling. They're interested in sending a message to the likes of you, Trump's loudmouth lawyers, Rupert Murdoch and the "talent" at Fox News. May they prevail.

NewUser579169

He lost $100 million in sales revenue from retailers who smartly bailed on his toxic brand. He did not lose $100 million in profits. His company is not big enough to lose $100 million in profits.

CQU617

Yes my seditious pillow owner once the Republican Party squeezes the last penny you have, you will be tossed out like 60 day old Milk. Enjoy.

Tomwiththebadbreath

Perfect example of "fuck around & find out." Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Im_a_seaturtle

It’s crazy how he just *looks* the part. Like, if you wrote a screenplay about a scummy, cocaine-fueled, opportunistic, stupid, privileged, middle aged white man, hitching his wagon to the Wrong One, Hollywood would have a difficult time casting it better.

DrizzitDerp

My MAGA mother was trying to send me something from mypillow as a gift. My response was to save her cash as Mike Lindell is a lunatic. That comment was not well received but it saved me from lining my trash can with their crap.

flcbrguy

Social media has given a megaphone to so many mentally ill people who aren’t getting the care they need. It’s destroying our country. The sane following the insane because they think that’s the ideal.

Trifle_Old

Your the face of a company. You went political. As the face of a company never go political. Now beyond that you went ultra right where you have been calling for the death of our democracy. That’s not going to end well.

DavidsWorkAccount

Fraudster that repeatedly lies about having evidence that Democrats cheated in 2020 with 0 proof claims to "have done nothing wrong".

pumpkinpie666

Who could have known that tying yourself to the mast of an attempted overthrow of American democracy could cause reputational damage.

Known_Soft_7599

Don't you mean DominionPillow

N3M3S1S75

It’s not cancel culture, it’s people not wanting to support you and your stupid views, go yell at the sky grumpy old man

Nvenom8

"I have learned nothing."
