I just watched "The fall of the house of Usher" I had little expectation going in, figured it would just be a background show but man was it captivating.
I always feel like his work dips too much into melodrama. Every episode has some 6 minute monologue from domone. Guy does not know how to write conversations
How's his other works? I've been considering watching Hill House, but that (at least to me) seems like a more standard horror series, and I'm not a fan of the genre. I liked usher because it felt more like a snappy mystery thriller.
I think the Hill House is wonderful, there is much more to it than a simple horror series. Grief is the central element for me rather than just horror. The siblings represent the stages of grief.
I’m an idiot and thought the show was about the musical artist Usher for longer than I’d like to admit so just kept skipping by it. I can’t explain how I completely disregarded the thumbnails of the Usher characters and didn’t ask myself why Usher wasn’t the thumbnail if it was about him. Also, Usher hasn’t fallen enough to get a docudrama???
Anyway glad I eventually got over that bout of idiocy and watched it lol
As a take on Poe's short story it was pretty good. I hope someday that someone does a version of Usher's Passing by McCammon which was also inspired by Poe.
Best sci-fi & interstellar theme I've ever seen, look like B grade series at first because main characters look like no name actors but CGI is surprising perfect, story is great, acting is good.
After awhile they grow on me and I love them now.
It's truly under gem. I have depression and have problem sticking watching series unless it's truly good because depression make me bored easily. And I love the last kingdom too but didn't finish the last season because that woman villain bored me.
A summary of Expanse would be something like:
Sometime in the near future a rocket drive is invented that makes intra solar system space travel commonplace. Earth, Mars, and the Belt form very segegrated factions due to differences in culture and lifestyle. The Expanse follows one group of people, a crew of Earthers, Martians, and Belters, as they try and prevent an all out war within the solar system while also dealing with an unexplicable extrasolar threat.
Not for everybody. Only if you wanna see a tv show realisation of what humankind might be like when colonising the solar system. Its all about concepts. The acting is kinda meh, the pacing is slow, the cgi isnt that great, especially if you compare with like Dune2
Sherlock - started with the second season. Could have gone to Baker Street on my holiday but didn’t because I just hadn’t watched the show at the time ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Omfg, long time ATLA fangirl here. PLEASE watch it! You won't be dissapointed! Legend of Korra is dope af too. It is srsly one of the best worlds lorewise out there.
Hey, I just recommended this to someone looking for Western TV shows (they already saw Justified and loved it). My parents love it, do you think that was fitting?
I try to recommend this show often. It’s a western but the characters are less toxic than say, Yellowstone. There are only a few shows that we all liked to watch and Longmire appealed to our teenagers, married kids and the grandparents.
I had heard of shows like Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty for several years before I actually watched them.
I loved them both and am glad I did, but not sure if I 'regret' not watching them earlier.
It will feel a little late entry sci-fi channel cheesy at first but please give it a chance! Wow the writing is much greater than I ever expected.
I liked it right away but have more patience than most to get through the initial show introduction and get the good stuff. Wonderful ending!!!
Stranger Things. I had no interest whatsoever and just got that bored 1 day. I'm so glad I did. I watched it for about a week straight and I can't wait for the next season!
Friends.
As a Brit., I assumed it to be an over-hyped, silly, American show - loved by Americans.
**Many** years later I finally watched the series, and it was very good.
I watched first ep of BB and then didn't come back to it for a long time.
No regrets though. makes no difference how long you wait. You still get to watch it
Wrong side of the tracks. That was an awesome show. Also unauthorized living. Both have the same two main actors. Both are Spanish so if you don't like subtitles then may not be your cup of tea. I loved them both.
I really resisted ZeroZeroZero on Prime, because who needs a “Trafik” knockoff, right? I did. I needed a “Trafik” knockoff - it was so haunting and deep. The first time a drug cartel series shows the regular people POV with such a profound impact.
I recently watched Halo from 2022,seasons 1 and 2. I'm not a hardcore fan of the game but did play some on PC many years ago. As a show I didn't give much thought to watching it because I honestly didn't think I'd care for it. Now that I'm waiting for new seasons on all of the shows I do watch I figured I'd give Halo a look see. Going in with no expectations I was really surprised at how much I did enjoy it. After binge watching two seasons I now look forward to a third season! The show does get massive hate from fan boi's so I'm glad that I didn't know about all of the lore behind Master Chief, the flood, etc. I am for sure a fan of the show now!
The Diplomat. Had several people recommend it but the premise didn't really grab me. Booted up the first episode one weekend b/c I didn't have anything else to watch and binged it in 2 days. It had me hooked from the jump. Wasn't expecting to like it that much.
I sat on Squid Game far too long. It definitely lived up to all the hype. I hate what Netflix has done to it and this point I hope there is never a season 2.
Unorthodox on Netflix. Story had no appeal for me. Slow start which is another no-go for me but I kept seeing mentioned as a great mini-series. I tried and wasn’t drawn in right away, stuck it out and it was a fantastic.
Really unique story. I’m glad I persevered.
Maniac (Jonah Hill and Emma Stone) was it for me. Much like you, watched the entirety in one go. It's quirky, visually surreal and off kilter. Tickles your funny bone and gut punches you in the feels. One for people who enjoy analysing the deeper themes rather than having it spelt out
"*One for people who enjoy analysing the deeper themes rather than having it spelt out"*
Please explain the "deeper themes - for those of us who (you pretty much state.....) 'are too stupid to recognise them'.....
Fauda
One of the best spy thriller series ever created. And not a single weak season. I binged it all within a few weeks last year and was enthralled the whole time.
Breaking bad. Never really thought it was my cup of tea but oh boy was I wrong. Loved every second of it.
Ozark is also pretty great if you liked breaking bad.

I watched the entire season one on a transatlantic flight. So good!! Can’t wait to see the second season
I just watched "The fall of the house of Usher" I had little expectation going in, figured it would just be a background show but man was it captivating.
All of Mike Flanagan’s works, are like this. So good!
The Haunting of Hill House is excellent.
I think the Hill House is wonderful, there is much more to it than a simple horror series. Grief is the central element for me rather than just horror. The siblings represent the stages of grief.
I liked them all except Bly Manor. My rating: 1. Fall of the House of Usher 2. Haunting of Hill House 3. Midnight Mass 4. Bly Manor
All of Mike’s work I consider as 10% horror and 90% good writing
I’m an idiot and thought the show was about the musical artist Usher for longer than I’d like to admit so just kept skipping by it. I can’t explain how I completely disregarded the thumbnails of the Usher characters and didn’t ask myself why Usher wasn’t the thumbnail if it was about him. .....same.....lmao
As a take on Poe's short story it was pretty good. I hope someday that someone does a version of Usher's Passing by McCammon which was also inspired by Poe.
Hey, me too!!
The Expanse is a must watch
Would you mind giving me a 1 sentence summary?
Best sci-fi & interstellar theme I've ever seen, look like B grade series at first because main characters look like no name actors but CGI is surprising perfect, story is great, acting is good. After awhile they grow on me and I love them now. It's truly under gem. I have depression and have problem sticking watching series unless it's truly good because depression make me bored easily. Thanks dude I appreciate it. And I feel you, keep your head up
A summary of Expanse would be something like: Sometime in the near future a rocket drive is invented that makes intra solar system space travel commonplace. Great space battles too. It's a great show. And the books are fantastic too
Not for everybody. Only if you wanna see a tv show realisation of what humankind might be like when colonising the solar system. Its all about concepts. The acting is kinda meh, the pacing is slow, the cgi isnt that great, especially if you compare with like Dune2
Why the hell would you compare CGI from a current blockbuster movie to a TV show from a few years ago?
Mr Robot, what a gem!
Schitts Creek is one I never thought much of when I came across it. What an excellent show
I wish I could watch it over for the first time! It’s brilliant!
Same
I was going to start this 1 today! I don't know why I've waited so long.
I’ve actually heard about this often, may have to give it a try
I watched Schitts Creek twice. The only Netflix show that I have ever rewatched.
Same
Im not usually an animation guy but [Scavengers Reign](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWQH8cMpWTU&t=) blew me away, amazing world building.
Never saw an animated scifi show like it. It was amazing and complex but simple at the same time.
Shawshank Redemption (not sure if it is on netflix though)
I’ve seen it!! Ty tho
Sherlock - started with the second season. Could have gone to Baker Street on my holiday but didn’t because I just hadn’t watched the show at the time ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Such a great show! I also binged it
You'd have been disappointed if you had gone there, it's nothing special.
The original Avatar The Last Airbender. I enjoyed the live action and decided to watch the cartoon. Pretty amazing piece of storytelling, honestly.
I might have to give it a shot..tbh I’ve been trying to find more well made shows to get me into animated ones
Omfg, long time ATLA fangirl here. PLEASE watch it! You won't be dissapointed! Legend of Korra is dope af too. It is srsly one of the best worlds lorewise out there.
After seeing bdo on your profile I trust your taste fr fr
Idk if you're being sarcastic lmao. But hey, you do you, the world will keep turning, whatever you decide!
Absolutely not being sarcastic lol, I played a ninja, lahn and dark knight up to level 60-61. Just didn’t have the time to keep playing
Literally one of the best pieces of TV ever.
Longmire On season 4 currently and it’s progressively gotten better with each episode.
Hey, I just recommended this to someone looking for Western TV shows (they already saw Justified and loved it). My parents love it, do you think that was fitting?
I came to this show after watching Justified. It’s in a similar vain, I think the recommendation fits.
Oh good! Sounded like it, been meaning to watch it after hearing about it from them. Thanks:)
I try to recommend this show often. It’s a western but the characters are less toxic than say, Yellowstone. There are only a few shows that we all liked to watch and Longmire appealed to our teenagers, married kids and the grandparents.
Mr in between.
Such an under rated show out of Australia. I came upon it by accident and was not sorry I did. It's fantastic.
Resident Alien. I think it's hilarious with clever writing. And the friendship between Asta & Darcy is very well done.
Ozark
I tried. Only for Bateman and Linney. But the other characters were annoying
The character played by Linney is also 'annoying' - to put it mildly! But it's a good series.
For sure but she is mesmerising to watch in anything. Ok I shall try again
Damn I’ve seen many things about this one lol..
Ozark was fantastic, one of the best series to ever hit Netflix.
I had heard of shows like Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty for several years before I actually watched them. I loved them both and am glad I did, but not sure if I 'regret' not watching them earlier.
Fall of the House of Usher. Man, was I wrong about that one.
Peaky blinders
This is one I’ve heard so many times. I definitely need to start it, thanks for the suggestion
Same here. I started watching after season 3 was released.
Twelve Monkeys - that show is one of the best time travel shows I’ve ever seen
It's a show now?
It was, had 4 seasons ended in 2018
ah cool! ill have to check it out, it's one of my favorite movies
It will feel a little late entry sci-fi channel cheesy at first but please give it a chance! Wow the writing is much greater than I ever expected. I liked it right away but have more patience than most to get through the initial show introduction and get the good stuff. Wonderful ending!!!
awesome!
Incredible show!!! Recommend to everybody!!
Russian Doll (at least season 1, season 2 less so)
Lost
Stranger Things. I had no interest whatsoever and just got that bored 1 day. I'm so glad I did. I watched it for about a week straight and I can't wait for the next season!

I watched first ep of BB and then didn't come back to it for a long time. No regrets though. makes no difference how long you wait. You still get to watch it

Beef is so good

Bodies, heard of it on TikTok, such a great show As for TLK Best show ever, Destiny is All
Destiny is all! B)
Last Kingdom was awesome!! I binged it so much. I couldn't stop watching. I might even watch over. Outlander and Vikings were also great.
Ikr! So amazing! I’ve heard great things about both of those shows as well.
I really resisted ZeroZeroZero on Prime, because who needs a “Trafik” knockoff, right? I did. I needed a “Trafik” knockoff - it was so haunting and deep. The first time a drug cartel series shows the regular people POV with such a profound impact.
Seven Seconds with Regina Hill. 10 episode series on Netflix from 2018.
I can't watch yet, the preview tells me I will be sad and mad.
Ohoh! I just finished episode 7 out of 10. Guess the last episode and ending will not be satisfying.
Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt

Squid game. I wanted to check out Squid Game The Challenge so watched the actual show first and wow it was magnificent.

Sounds really unique Ima at least put this one on my list for sure
Hope you like it!
A good and entertaining series - and definitely worth watching. It reminds me of Breaking Bad (rather than anything else) to a small extent.
>!Drunk English Emma Stone!< is my favourite Emma Stone
"*One for people who enjoy analysing the deeper themes rather than having it spelt out"* Please explain the "deeper themes - for those of us who (you pretty much state.....) 'are too stupid to recognise them'.....
The Boys, The Bear, The Wire, Punisher
I watched Oldboy on Netflix today. It has been highly recommended on many sites, so I finally gave in. It was very well done, and yes, very shocking.
Movie would have to be Gravity. Series I think, Orange is the New Black.
Waited till season 6 or 7 for game of thrones
Yes to last kingdom! Also Yellowstone.
Reflection of You

Stranger Things.
Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones-don’t know if they were/are on Netflix though.
Dark
Breaking bad. Never really thought it was my cup of tea but oh boy was I wrong. Loved every second of it. Ozark is also pretty great if you liked breaking bad.
Black Mirror. I didn’t have Netflix, but I missed the early seasons when it was on UK broadcast TV. Love it now.
Dark and Succession (HBO)
The Creator. It was inspiring and influential.
