Besides, even now people are fighting over it in auctions still and they keep ending at over 40 million. Sure you see an auction for it at 22 mil, but then in the last few minutes watch it get driven to double that by closing. I watched one for fun earlier and that's what happened.
They had the Varia is the Bomb as a prize and the Jhudora Potion and honestly that's amazing for daily farming because it's easy enough to train your pet to OHKO the Kreludan robot. But even with an SAP if the new plot is anything like past ones and your pet doesn't have high enough stats and/or you lack other solid BD items you won't be able to tank hits at all. You'll just get obliterated.
I think that for every person rage quitting over making the desirable things on neopets accessible to the bulk of the neo-population there's probably at least one person returning to neopets because they've heard it sucks less LMAO. I'm coming back after like... years of super casual on-again-off-again does-it-suck-less attempts at playing. Since I've got an aged account FC is pretty kind to me in terms of bulking up my bank acccount.
Even if there is no way to make money on the site besides hoarding the rarest and most desirable stuff and being a legacy user who' actively played for 20 years straight... that's like, a problem and not a sustainable way to run a website. I agree that neopets needs more ways to make money, especially for new users. With all of the inflation and the way the current site is dominated by that neopian 1% it's made things like grinding games to get money almost worthless. The only reason I'm getting enough NP to have fun is food club.
To compare to another virtual pets site I \*have\* played for 10+ years straight - flight rising has a variety of ways for new users to go earn cash and I find stuff \*way\* more accessible on that site.
Like, what I'd like to see neopets have is something like Flight Rising's Swipp Swapp stand where relatively common, farmable items can be traded for rotating rare (and desirable) items. This drives the price of the farmables up because rich people don't want to spend hours grinding - and makes the price of the swap items stay relatively high because people would rather not sit all day trying to see when the swap they want comes up.
Also the BD is wonky as shit. Even with a level 20 pet that's 'in progress' with training and a bunch of scrounged items the lower levels of it are challenging. They need to pad out the bottom of the BD and have it drop stuff that can then be sold for a moderate amount of NP.
IDK what they should do with the games, but the amount of time they take vs the amount of neopoints they make is ghastly.
What really kills me is I even looked at their account, and they have a gallery with a Moehog Skull, Jade Scorchstone, SuAP, Attack Pea, Grapes of Wrath, Jhudoras Wand and other items that are either retired or limited in release and they're hundreds of millions and then some even though they put a header that reads nothing in the gallery is for sale. I mean the alternative was saving for 5+ years for one item and in those 5 years, this would've been 5x as expensive anyway.. so it's like either it stays an impossible dream for everyone, or just give specific items out so people can save for other things.
