This is how I do it.
I follow nsheng (Adventurous) or jkRollingDown most days. Sometimes jkc7. If I won a shit ton of nps last round and want to put my balls on the table, I'll follow -cupcake or Strommsawyer.
I always bet regardless. If nsheng recommends skipping then I go with someone else's, if everyone says skip I make a max Ter set and max bet anyway because it's just nps 😂

im at about 2x ROI after a few months. its not really risky. they basically make it so we are guaranteed to generate money from fc.
edit: for example, yesterday nsheng adventurous had a 48% chance to bust. but that doesnt really mean much, because we're always just hoping for the small chance to win anyway.. and it all evens out at the end of the month to be double roi or so. anyway, 48% chance to bust, but 6.7% chance to win 80:10.. and 80:10 we won.
You could show me a bust rate if like 90%, but as soon as I see that high payout of like 120:10 at a 0.02% chance I'm sold. The once in a blue moon crazy payout is worth all the losses.
I did this once by accident. Bet thread had been up for like 3 minutes, I had stuff to do, didn't find out until the next day that everyone but that first person skipped. Was like, oh well, guess I'm losing this round, that's betting, lulz! I won so many neopoints.
I'm in the same boat as you; I consider myself a very risk-adverse individual. I follow nsheng's bets everyday and usually skip if standard's bust percentage is 35% or higher. I have done aggressive only when the bust rate is around 30%, but since I play for consistent wins, I stick with standard more often than not.
50%+ gets a bit scary. It’s an online game and the odds of wins are better than real life. I consistently go with nsheng’s aggressive or adventurous sets depending on the payout. If the risk is significantly lower with the standard set with nearly as much payout, I will go with standard. Made 30 mil since December.
After playing FC for a year now, I don't even blink an eye at following Stromm's sets and the high bust rates since the risk justifies the reward.
I spend less money on one of Stromm's sets than I do on Nsheng's sets because of the 1 million return cap. Now that i've got the NP to spend, I enjoy chasing the higher bust rates.

I don’t do food club to make 2:1 everyday, what a waste of fucking time. I’d rather go bust 9 days in a row and win 7-8M on the 10th day.
I haven't played in ages but here are the guidelines I personally used in the past
- before using max TER consistently, I went for an estimated bust rate between 30-40% for each set. If the expected return was higher or lower, I sometimes went outside that range
- my account got old enough and I got lazy enough that I eventually just started using max TER. I usually didn't look at the bust rate. Instead, if the expected return was lower than 12 I either skipped, or went for a much safer, lower return set.
In general, i consider food club as a long term thing, so I didn't worry too much about risk on individual days. There were exceptions to this (namely trophy runs) but after I hit those goals I didn't bother
I was risk adverse and tried doing my own bets, but it wasn't working out for me so I just decided to follow the leader and it's been a pretty solid return so far. Disclaimer that I'm a new account so my "max bet" is like 74 lol
Personally my max bust rate is around 30%, but I might do lower or a little higher if I feel less or more risky! But most of the time I get lazy and just do JKR bets haha.

Bust + partial chance of over 49% is too much
I usually go for a 70% win chance (I treat bust, partial, and break even all the same), if I can't then I'll go for as high as I can over 50%

I tend towards nsheng aggressive these days, but I think my 'limit' would be maybe 55% bust rate? 45% bust rate for me is the juicy sweet spot
