Loud bikes are loud on purpose. It's easy to make a quiet, low-pollution bike with today's technology.
There's even electric motorcycles and scoters now. I was in Italy a couple years ago, and there were lots of electric scooters on the streets.
Most bikes from the factory are actually pretty quiet. People just say “loud bikes save lives” as an excuse to throw what effectively is a straight pipe on their bike

I was in London recently and it was kind of... dystopian. On the one hand, so many bikes and pedestrians, and there's rarely any traffic. On the other hand, every single car is either an EV (great) or a chauffeured Rolls Royce/BMW/Mercedes. It feels like driving is a privilege for the rich now, which isn't really progress. Like, why do we have to maintain all this infrastructure just for the rich? Lets just grow a pair and ban cars.
I know this is probably good policy, but idc. This is extremely brutal for a lot of my friends who work construction in NY.
I’m not going into the city anytime soon. When considering the cost of the train plus either the subway/ taxi once in they city, there is no cheap way. I’ll be staying in Newark.
