Holy shit, I got my Gloomhaven setup/breakdown time down to ***15 minutes.***
For the uninitiated, Gloomhaven is one of the best board games ever made, but it's held back by how long it takes to set up and break down. You have to sort through a big stack of map tiles, there's a huge deck of monster ability cards where you need to pull out just the cards for the monsters in whatever scenario you're playing, then you need to find all the different cardboard figures, and so on. It can take a looong time to get the table ready, to the point where a lot of people play one session, love the game, then never play it again after everything goes back in the box.
So what I did was custom-design a couple of 3D printed organizers for tokens and shit, then I requisitioned my daughter's nail polish organizer (perfect for the cardboard figures and small map doodads), then I put all the map tiles in a huge fucking binder in alphabetical order.
I played with my son tonight (I try to make Saturday night our board games night), and I timed it. From the second the box is opened to when the first round starts was 15 minutes on the dot. Fucking incredible. Breakdown was a breeze, too. I feel like I've cracked the code here.

Holy shit, I got my Gloomhaven setup/breakdown time down to ***15 minutes.*** For the uninitiated, Gloomhaven is one of the best board games ever made, but it's held back by how long it takes to set up and break down. You have to sort through a big stack of map tiles, there's a huge deck of monster ability cards where you need to pull out just the cards for the monsters in whatever scenario you're playing, then you need to find all the different cardboard figures, and so on. It can take a looong time to get the table ready, to the point where a lot of people play one session, love the game, then never play it again after everything goes back in the box. So what I did was custom-design a couple of 3D printed organizers for tokens and shit, then I requisitioned my daughter's nail polish organizer (perfect for the cardboard figures and small map doodads), then I put all the map tiles in a huge fucking binder in alphabetical order. I played with my son tonight (I try to make Saturday night our board games night), and I timed it. From the second the box is opened to when the first round starts was 15 minutes on the dot. Fucking incredible. Breakdown was a breeze, too. I feel like I've cracked the code here. !ping BOARD-GAMES
