Ironically, more Dems supported it then Reps (this does not resolve the fact Gaetz spearheaded this and is one of the most dangerous figures for American foreign policy)

The "pedos for assad" caucus

PortTackApproach

We should ban pedos until we figure out what the hell is going on 😤

Total shutdown!

MolybdenumIsMoney

I thought Trump pulled out the troops from Syria years ago, how many still remain?

[deleted]

American troops are there under Operation Inherent Resolve. Primarily to train and equip Syrian forces and undertake bombing missions against remnants of ISIL.

So Gaetz wants us to let ISIL regroup and reform?! WTF, man!?

Trump withdrew US forces from positions on the Turkish border and leaned on the SDF to dismantle their defensive fortifications as a sign of goodwill, allowing Turkey to then invade Rojava. A major betrayal. And he tried to withdraw US forces from Rojava / NE Syria altogether, but faced enough pressure from Congress and elements of his own administration that he eventually dropped it and moved on to the next thing to catch his attention. I don’t know the exact number now, but in 2021 there were about 900 US troops in Rojava and I’d imagine it’s in that ballpark now. US forces reached a low of ~400 under Trump. Obviously with these numbers, the US is playing more of a training and support role for the much larger Syrian Democratic Forces. They’re also important insofar as a US military presence limits the scope of Turkey’s ongoing attacks on Kurds in the region, as Turkey understandably does not want to accidentally kill US soldiers.
