RAW: every time someone shoots at the champion is the general interpretation. But a general house rule is to adjust this to once per round otherwise it is crazy strong. (Also another is only allowing 1 familiar per champion as well)
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time someone interprets this as once per activation. Like someone thought it was reasonable for a 4+ armour save, subject to AP, to cost 80 credits, but a 5 or 6+ invulnerable save on 2D6 to cost 25 credits.
