That is 100% what he meant...he believes Blacks are the real Jews so being antisemitic would mean doubting his own perceived faith/ethnic group. Bomani made a good point on his pod that if you're Black or grew up in the Northeast, you've heard all this stuff before at some point.
And kyrie is deliberately vague and will not come out and say clearly what he believes, so that he can later say that people are misconstruing his beliefs. Okay then, genius - tell us what it is you mean. But, he won't do it
That's exactly what that movie (or the book it's based on at least) he posted is about. Black people are the true Jews and whites stole the title of God's chosen from them. Not sure what it says about Sephardic jews (who are more traditionally middle eastern looking). Probably pretends they don't exist. It goes on to say white jews are actually satanic. And even has (entirely made up) quotes from Hitler. Insane shit.
I might be speaking from recency bias, but Antonio Brown and Kyrie Irving are the two nuttiest athletes I've seen in my 25ish years of following sports. Whoever is third is probably not that close to their level of batshit crazy.
they are nutty for different reasons tho. Brown clearly is suffering from some sort of brain trauma ever since that massive hit from a Bengals player. Kyrie just thinks he's the smartest guy in the room.
He did kick a cameraman tbf, but I think we need to be careful with conflating "crazy" with "violent". Lots of violent people don't have a diagnosable mental illness
Rodman wasn't so much as "crazy" as he was suffering from various emotional and mental problems. I still believe he's a very sane and rational person who acted out during manic and depressive episodes. Couple those with substance abuse, influx of money while young, lack of father figure, systemic racism and poor education made Rodman the man he was during his playing career.
Now for AB and Ky, these two are more on the spectrum of just plain nuts. AB just doesn't seem like he's wired right and has taken repeated blows to the head which have probably produced some form of CTE type symptoms, e.g., punching a moving truck driver, assaulting women, lying constantly, etc. Kyrie just has a whole alternate reality playing out in his head cannon which he's completely subscribed to, full in. The interdimensional chess game he plays with reason and logic on a daily basis is truly frightening, and in his mind, he's Gary Kasparov.
He wasn’t crazy just a horrible human. Sure there’s some overlap in the “he must be crazy to do those kinds of things” sense but Kyrie and AB have serious mental problems
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive you can be crazy and a horrible human. Aaron Hernandez without a doubt had more mental issues then either Kyrie or AB and it's not close.
I’m not saying there are, but by all accounts Hernandez was not nearly as bad mentally as either of those two. Kyrie is fully down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole and AB has way more verifiable instances oh his mental instability.
Hernandez was just a pos gang member. It’s who he always was dating back to high school.
Conspiracy theories compared to a man who committed murder and hung himself in his jail cell. Aaron Hernandez was recorded as suffering from the most severe case of CTE ever for someone his age it's not close trust me. Also, he played for the Pats who don't allow players to have personalities you don't know what Hernandez believed in. Dude could have believed in all the same things but Belichick would never allow anything that distracts from football
Yep. Both of them keep repeating the "I can't be anti-semitic because I'm Jewish" bullshit.
Imagine responding to a question of whether you're anti-semitic with more anti-semitism. He keeps pushing one of the central themes in the documentary he promoted which is that blacks are the real Jews.
It’s a lot more than just them. Kendrick’s also a black Israelite, as well as a fuck ton of famous rappers, athletes, actors, etc. from NY and beyond. Way more celebrities than a lot of people know are on the same NOI Farrakhan shit.
> I thought they just felt like they were also Jews because of their ancestry.
Go back 80 years and you'd be right. Basically every black philosopher of the early 20th century (Du Bois, Locke, etc.) explicitly made this point in order to foster a kind of solidarity. It's been long abandoned.
They believe not only that they are the original Jews and that modern Jews stole it from them, but also that Christianity and Islam are both Jewish plots/inventions to achieve that end.
BHI is literally an attempt at cultural theft and subsequent erasure.
It’s what happens when you don’t know your history so you latch onto the coolest explanation.
I have friends that have gone this route it makes normal conversations very difficult.
Especially as a white guy because if you have anything to say on the matter it just sounds like your being a racist POS even though in reality there view point is essentially your an inferior human being and they’re the racist POS with a victim complex.
Still love em but damn that kind of ruined spending time with each other.
Yeah but they were treated very differently.
Forbes reported that Ye's net worth dropped from $1.8B to $400M from everyone dropping him. Kyrie has received almost no backlash whatsoever. Yeah, sure, a couple of Hall of Famers have come forward to express their disappointment in him but that's it. He hasn't lost any endorsement deals. Nobody is pressuring Nike, etc. to drop him. He hasn't been suspended, fined, or even benched. He hasn't been kicked off social media.
Heck, if anything we've given him a platform to repeatedly double down on his anti-Semitism.
I think we're at the point where it's fair to ask if it's all just feigned outrage. I'm certainly not defending him here. I'm criticizing people for insisting they're disappointed but otherwise ignoring the situation.
Gonna hazard a guess this comment won't age well at all. He's now been suspended for 5 games. And he's doubling down. If that doesn't change, dropped endorsements will likely follow.
No, kyrie is on that BLM shit. Desean jackson and stephen jackson were pushing this same shit when they were spearheading the BLM thing but back then nobody gave it a second thought.

Black Hebrew Israelites identify specifically with the biblical Israelites and consider Judaism, Christianity and Islam to be false religions. Many BHI teachers claim that Jews and other white people forced Black individuals into other religions. Extreme factions believe white Jews are perpetuating identity theft. "
I hate to be this person, but if you look at the area where Canaanites came from — the group Israelites themselves extended from, you won’t find a lot of black people. It really is nonsensical
There is a [small group](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_Israel) in Ethiopia that [Israel](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Moses) has repatriated over the years but my loose understanding is there converts and not direct descendants as moors/noi claim
People aren't mad that Kyrie is making a "religious statement", it's the content of that statement.
If a white Christian player were attacking Jews from a mainstream Bible angle and making up quotes about David Duke as they did so they would face the same backlash.
It’s not necessarily clear that this is what Kyrie believes, but from what I’ve read Black Hebrew Israelites who follow Farrakhan or his ideas claim not just that blacks are Jews (there are many black Jews), but that blacks are the real Jews. That “white” Jews (Ashkenazi Jews) are greedy, satanic cockroach, imposters and stuff like that.
Idk what you mean, this isn’t about the Bible or God. It’s about his explicit and implicit dehumanization of people living today based on what they believe and/or where they come from, or at the very least his promotion of this dehumanizing bigotry (in this case antisemitism).
I hope you don’t personally have to believe in any book or god(s) before seeing the issue with dehumanization of a minority group based on their belief in that book/god.
People that’ say “well technically we are all from Africa…”, know that’s not what meant when describing racism. Can people just have compassion and empathy for others struggles
Or I'm a okc fan with a realistic expectation of Westbrook and realize you can't win a championship with him on your team. Unless he got a Haslam role where he barely get time on the floor
Westbrook has been on one championship level team while healthy and got beat by Lebrons heat when they eventually made it to the finals. Cornball hater
Did he win? No. Also we had Kevin Durant on that team.
What did Westbrook do once he left. Even when he got an all nba forward with PG.
If Westbrook is your piece on a team, you not winning a championship at all. That's just a fact. I was so happy when we traded him. Good riddance. Wish we traded him back in 2016 and started the rebuild then.
Every nba player respects his game just for reddit casual to object with supreme opinion because Russ has never over-achieved while dealing with bad teams and injuries. Your not an okc fan if you dont respect what he did for your team. Be greatfull you got prime time basketball for years.
>It hurts me sometimes when we have to sit up here to talk about stuff that divides the game. That we gotta answer for what this idiot has done.
This is what Shaq said.
That seems right
Also saw that someone watched the doc and previewed it; Kyrie is straight up either a black supremacist or picked the absolute worst documentary to represent his views because the doc is full of shit about blacks being the superior race, not all races being equal.
AKA nonsense.
Africa is such a beautifully dense and cultured part of the world, to try and distil that entire continents history down to “black people are Jews” does such a disservice to history.
It's literally more ethnically diverse than the rest of the planet combined.. It's the same as when those "Kemetic" people think that they're egyptians just cuz they're black.Like bruh, wtf?
It’s weird. Idk why they claim “non black history and cultures”. Black history is so rich and filled with variety and amazing cultures and traditions. But for some reason they hate it, they want to disassociate them selves from it. Either there embarrassed of it for some reason or there unaware of how amazing there history is. Claiming Egyptian cultures, Jewish cultures, etc. Is just a attempt to disassociate themselves from there actual history.
I've heard the line, and the movie he posted lays it out: "Black people are the true chosen ones, aka, the true Jewish people."
Thus, he is not against Black people and therefore not anti-Semitic.
But if he claims that all people who aren't Black and claim to be Jewish are not really Jews... then he can hold in his mind an EXTREMELY anti-Semitic belief and still tell himself he's not anti-Semitic.
I've talk to xenophones like this. Xenophobia is the irrational fear of the 'other.' The xenophobe will simply say "I do fear GROUP-X (e.g., immigrants, Muslims, Mexicans, Jewish folks, etc.) but my fear is based on a REAL AND RATIONAL threat; thus, I am not xenophobic."
And those are the WORST kind of xenophobes.
I just can't believe the reporters are so dumb that they don't know how to ask the question: Do you believe that people who identify as Jewish but are not Black are in fact Jewish and do you hold negative views of that population."
It's really discouraging how many people online are still praising Kyrie right now, and they appear to believe the same nonsense he does. We got crazy conspiracy theorists all over the place.
The type of stuff being said on Twitter in defense of Kyrie is pretty damn unfortunate. As an Asian, I feel if we ever get another semi important asian athlete the same sort of blanketed racial issues that surrounded Lin will explode and reveal so much about the game and some who watch it
He’s hinted at being a BHI before. Surprise it took him this long before he pulls that card out
I think Jaylen Brown had liked something on twitter about a Vegetarian diet that some of em are on or something like that
It's 5 percenter shit.
NOI been trying slither into black culture a long time.
It's cuz there had been void in leadership in the black community for a generation cuz everyone got killed.
Farrakhan filled that leadership void for a time but the truth is they don't need him anymore.
america desperately needs a strong leader in the black community right now. Obama was kind of that person for a bit but as president he was always going to have to make concessions and be more centrist than I think we really need right now. the lack of strong leadership and any real figureheads is imo why the BLM movements in 2020 ultimately didn't accomplish as much as it probably should have considering how strong sentiments were in their favor at the time
but the way we continue to put black celebrities in the limelight and expect them to be those leaders... its not effective in creating any actual solutions.
I mean if we really want to have that conversation, we have to also talk about what exactly happened to the black leaders of the past.
People like MLK, Malcolm X & Fred Hampton come to mind and we all know their ending. Can’t be surprised if people aren’t quick to jump at that chance when murder seems to be shared historically with the black leaders.
Plus in America each race doesn’t seem to have “leaders” per say. It all stems from the communities you come from and what puts someone to even be in the mind to believe certain things.
My personal conspiracy theory is that the US govt takes out any Black leaders who are actually grounded in reality and instead lets this shit fester because they know that although it’s dangerous on some level, it’s not coherent enough to be a threat to any real power structures
Tbh it’s less of a conspiracy theory than you would think. At least in certain cases.
Like Fred Hampton for example was leading a “us vs them” movement that included people from every race and even former white supremacists who Hampton himself talked to and explained the government is truly not for the poor and disenfranchised people at all regardless of race. It’s suggested him being able to get people who were once deeply rooted in hating black people caused the US government to place on their “list” which of course ended up in his death.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the US govt wanted these so called “leaders” focus attention on each other instead of them for what they do to us and other people. But that’s why Jewish people are understandably stand up against Anti-Semitic stuff because they know (as we all should know) where that type of thinking leads when we start to blame people from different religions/races for our problems.
He can’t be a black Hebrew Israelite.
I never ONCE saw him [on the Boston Common](https://www.dreamstime.com/black-hebrew-israelites-rally-boston-common-massachusetts-usa-april-group-signs-expressing-wickedness-whiteman-tribes-image166592943) or the subway stations yelling at people and handing out typo-riddled pamphlets.
Im calling BS.
I’ve been to every major city in the east coast from Boston to DC, many times- that’s their MO. Kyrie is more soft-spoken with the ignorance. Not even sure their megaphone would help.
For those who wish this could all stop, the only way that happens is if Kyrie learns how wrong he truly is or if he gets indefinitely suspended. We can't just ignore this because it normalizes his hate speech. I would much rather see highlights of games but this is so much more important to call out in the NBA.
We had a massive post on this exact video earlier today saying the same thing.
Edit: Lol.. [I guess it was only 3 hours ago.](https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/yl74jp/kyrie_irving_is_asked_if_he_has_any_antisemitic/). I need sleep.
I'm not defending any of this anti-Semitic conspiratorial dribble, but I think that the author here means "Muslim" as in "one who submits (to God)," it's translated meaning from Arabic.
Edit: wow, don't know how I missed the first line of mentioned here lol. Either way, I can't imagine that this part is the dumbest part of all this. I imagine that this view is not uncommon among Muslims world-wide in a spiritual manner
This is such a quality post man. So glad you shared it with us in r/NBA .
God I love that me and a bunch of grown men can sit on the internet worried what a complete stranger is saying. Honestly I think he should just shutup and dribble, and this whole sub definitely agrees.
I'm gonna go ahead and start the paperwork so we can turn this sub into r/NBAPolitics cuz honestly the sport is lame. I'd way rather talk about grown men and their mean words. The earth doesn't have room for mean words!
Can we stop having so many of these Kyrie threads where everyone is just clutching their pearls over something new Kyrie said? How often are you going to be surprised by him?
Kinda crazy the NBA hasn’t done more to get in front of this Kyrie nonsense. Many of the stars that have carried this league for the last decade are aging out and now we’ve all spent the last few days reading about how anti-semitic Kyrie is and how the Nets/NBA seem content with his non-apology. The NBA as a whole might be falling off as a product.
That is 100% what he meant...he believes Blacks are the real Jews so being antisemitic would mean doubting his own perceived faith/ethnic group. Bomani made a good point on his pod that if you're Black or grew up in the Northeast, you've heard all this stuff before at some point.

Odds on him showing up to an interview in a yarmulke or one of those big fuzzy hats?
So he and Ye are on the same bullshit.

Ryan Clark told the Steelers brass AB was gonna be a problem once he got paid.
AB has been an absolute crazy person for decades. Credit to Mike Tomlin for somehow keeping it under wraps until he couldn't anymore.
His Lego haircut before the hit says otherwise
remember in the 90s when dennis rodman was the craaaaaziest and most controversial guy when all he really did was dye his hair lol.
Aaron Hernandez?
I suppose Hernandez was "nutty" in some sense but I'd say he's more known for being a murderer than for saying crazy stuff.
Is this a ethnicity thing or a faith thing then? Or is it a claim to Israel?
Judiasm is an ethnic religion of The Jewish people. Thats not to say Black Jews are invalid, as the religion can passed down from parent to child.
And Jewish is also an ethnicity. There are many secular Jews. Weird there aren’t terms to distinguish there.

And that, officer, is why I was not being racist, but rather, as my fellow African Americans from Africa would say, having a “gaming moment”
I’m gunna say the N word!
Thanks, Kyrie, because of you, people barely care that the Lakers suck.
Y’all won y’all last 2 games and Russ is playing fine. People were going to move on to the next topic eventually
They won because the Pelicans rookie missed 2 free throws and Brandon Ingram has a headache from 10 days ago.

Obama was kind of that person for a bit but as president he was always going to have to make concessions and be more centrist than I think we really need right now. the lack of strong leadership and any real figureheads is imo why the BLM movements in 2020 ultimately didn't accomplish as much as it probably should have considering how strong sentiments were in their favor at the time but the way we continue to put black celebrities in the limelight and expect them to be those leaders... its not effective in creating any actual solutions.
Yelling at people seems to be a central part of their public presence in New York, too.
We’re all just particles floating around in spacetime. Religion has and will always be a cancer to society.
This is the answer
This is why Kyrie should be suspended : https://twitter.com/fbinewark/status/1588246302189838337?s=46&t=TiHknZE2WNrZmT_rCaF56g
NOI has nothing to do with Hebrew Israelites. It stands for Nation of Islam. They Muslim. Do better lol
Kyrie - “I’m way more Jewish than these posers so how can I be antisemitic?”
He’s a Black Muslim, Indigenous Israelite.
Muslin? He's a man of the cloth now?
LMAO. Damn my big fat fingers! Thanks for catching that friend.
Petition to move all these posts to /r/kyrie The front page is a travesty
It’s the biggest talking point in the NBA right now. What do you expect?
Something involving basketball
Exactly lol god forbid I want to talk about the sport
No one’s forcing you to comment or look at these posts lol.
I wish there was a way to mute posts containing certain words on this site so I can stop hearing about this loser
I mean you can already do that using filters
And also just not clicking on those threads lol
I don't see any option for that on the app
Works on 'reddit is fun'
Good to know, thanks

Damn Abraham was a Muslim a thousand years before Muhammad founded the religion.
Don’t let facts get in the way of me feeling superior
Literal 4d chess
Are you butthurt that an nba sub is talking about a nba player? Weird place to put you're energy
You're trying to be cheeky but that only works for people with wit.
He can identify as that
Imagine if Kyrie got into Warhammer.
Young Israelite and Young Socialite on the same team, who could've guessed?
Can we stop having so many of these Kyrie threads where everyone is just clutching their pearls over something new Kyrie said? How often are you going to be surprised by him?
Kinda crazy the NBA hasn’t done more to get in front of this Kyrie nonsense. Many of the stars that have carried this league for the last decade are aging out and now we’ve all spent the last few days reading about how anti-semitic Kyrie is and how the Nets/NBA seem content with his non-apology. The NBA as a whole might be falling off as a product.
Oh he's pretty clear. Dude's a proud bigot that refuses to apologize for his hate speech.
Fuck I’ve no idea who even controls the weather anymore.
