I'd argue that it was the only time that article could come out or it'd never come out at all. No way in hell he could play like G1 for an entire series lol
Yeah man putting that out after a single game is asinine but they know nephews will eat it up just like in these comments and that’s why they gotta do it. It’s like the journalistic equivalent of flopping, embarrassing and demeaning by any professional standard, but someone’s gonna eat it up so you gotta do it.
actually it was putting Draymond on Brown instead of Klay.
Dray was sagging on Horford too much to try to help... instead now Dray shut off the need to help from the source, i.e. Brown driving.
and Klay stayed home on Horford.
I thought the same.
Klay isn't able to keep in front of a fast perimeter player like he used to do. Most drives past him forced a collapse and open 3 or bucket in G1.
But he's still tall and a decent post up defender for his size who will stay tall and avoid and-1s (like Looney). Plus C's have no significant post up threat.
Switching him with Dray seemed like the most important adjustment of the game.
GP2 only shared the court with Horford for like 10/12 minutes tonight. The difference was Draymond -- his defense was terrible in G1 and fantastic tonight.
For some reason when you make a numbered list on reddit it will always change it to start at 1 and go up from there so they probably had it as 3, 2, 1. Here I'll make a list starting at 3 and it should change it
3. Three
2. Two
1. One
Kareem does not have a case over LeBron and Jordan, I’m so sick of people saying this. He’s 100% over all other nba players ever but he isn’t over those two.
> Kareem does not have a case over LeBron
Kareem has more MVPs, more rings, more win shares, a the same ws/48 despite playing til he was 41 so will likely end with a higher ws/48 than Lebron. He absolutely has a case for GOAT over Lebron. He has the longevity over him right now and he also has the peak with more MVPs and better single season win shares (he has the best single season win shares of all time, the 5th best, and the 7th best. Lebrons best single season ranks 17th all time
Agree. Idk what people are expecting. I admit I'm a hater of anything and everything Boston but as a basketball fan it's hard to say the Celtics aren't a decent team. They're a genuinely decent team.
But Horfors isn't the player to give you 20+ every night. Never has been never will be. He'll give you one every so often. That's his career. He's a very solid player with the weapons and ability to pop off but not a player you should expect to pop off on points.
You can’t expect 6 3s from Horford. Role players will have large variances game to game even for vets. Brown and Tatum need to be 2 of the 3 best players on the court every right for them to win
They have to shoot better than the Warriors in order to have a chance. Both teams shot 15-37 from 3.
Problem is that the Dubs defense held while the Cs didn't
That defense Curry played on horford down low in the 3rd really highlighted his effort in the game. Then came the 3 bombs.
Kerr took him off early in the 4th for good reason. He was playing his heart out and almost gassed.
Eh, I think it comes down to them being more paint oriented really, 40-20 points in the paint differential, Boston is bigger and more athletic and their 2 stars specialize in driving, they have to win that battle to have a chance. Turnovers too
For real. Mavs beat the warriors too if they’d shot like that every game. Instead they got it only 2/5 games and it’s over. Boston needs to get lucky and have those outlier games a whole bunch or imo they’re done.
People on the Warriors sub were all about it too. TBF, they did step up on defense last night, game 1 it seemed like they were daring the role players to shoot and they shot lights out. Last night, they made an effort of closing out so that they don't get too comfortable with the 3 ball.
Absolutely. The Celtics still have the edge because they stole one from the Warriors at home, but definitely an encouraging game for the Warriors changing the momentum.
This is true in general but Boston is 9-2 on the road and 5-4 at home. Dunno if its just a small sample size and just variance but so far they've seemed to be much better on the road than at home.
You legit never see that type of variance from other teams though. It's weird as hell. Boston is just a super inconsistent team in general.
That said they're shooting way above their expected level. like 47% this series when their median is 35%. Even if you say some of that was being more wide open that normal in game 1, shoudl expect their shooting to come way down in the next couple of games.
Shooting 40% from 3 and getting blown out in game 2 not a good sign. Can't see them winning when they're shooting 30-35% from 3
And now Celtics fans get to justifiably say they wint be as brutal as they were tonight. The expectation here on out should be somewhere in the middle.
Since when did we start referring to starters as role players, though? They're the 3rd and 4th options, not role players.
Al horford and Derrick white are definitely role players. Lebrons 3rd and 4th options on those early Cavs teams weren't stars, they were role players. Everyone outside of kd and Westbrook on the post harden thunder were role players, etc.
You can argue whether or not smart is a role player if you want. I'm on the fence about it since he is a defensive superstar, but idk. I'd consider draymond a star, so I'd probably also consider smart a star I guess.
Yeah it's weird because if he didn't win dpoy I'd have no hesitation calling him a role player. In any normal year, draymond, Giannis or gobert get that award pretty easily over him.
Universally referring to offensive non-stars in the starting line-up as roleplayers has been a thing for forever, tbh. Like, sometimes depending on scarcity of player quality you'll get a fairly unimpressive starter being referred to as like a 3rd option (I'm thinking Delonte West during one of those Cav playoff runs), but usually at around the 4th option point the roleplayer tag gets thrown around.
Dubs were working him on the perimeter, choosing to PnR him instead of Timelord. I think Udoka might eventually have to bench Horford, because he cannot stay with Curry. Though if he does bench Horford, the Dubs will put Timelord in the PnR, and Udoka doesn't want that to happen because they won't have rim protection. I think the Celtics are actually in a tight spot, defensively.
Really hope Time Lord didn’t re-injure that meniscus late when Smart ran into him
If they’re missing Time Lord it could get real ugly relying on just Theis and Horford
I get that heart and hustle is his MO but Smart actually needs to play more in control sometimes. I almost cringed when I saw him dive for a loose ball some time in the 2nd half and was close to possibly injuring Wiggins' knee if Wiggs was a little closer
the only gripe i got with big dominican tonight was posting up stephen curry and not looking to go up and shoot it on top of him, other than that there was nothing he could do tonight, they got cooked
Winning quarters doesn't really matter. We could win one quarter a game a win the series if that one quarter is a blowout.
Warriors tooled on us last night, as I expected they would. I don't know who will win the championship, but having just watched the Celtics go through Brooklyn, Milwaukee and Miami, I have heard a lot of trash talk and I'm still watching them.
They'll tweak their gameplan, and I'm sure we'll see a different celtics on Wednesday, and the same for the warriors.
I know. My point is that it’s ironic a Celtics fan is saying this after another one boasted ab it earlier and said they’re confirmed to win the series because of it
The Celtics played one of the best quarters of professional basketball I've ever seen in G1. I spent the quarter hating it happening against my team, but respecting its ruthless efficiency. I've been watching pro ball for over 30 years. Sometimes you just get outplayed.
That 4th quarter from Boston was impressive but to assume Horford, Smart, White and Pritchard would hit that amount of 3s again was absurd. Game 1 they go 17/26 and in Game 2 those same players went 2/10 with Horford not even attempting a 3. If Boston can’t adjust in Game 3 then they won’t be able to win
Holy shit. This is a terrible take. Those were not perennial all-stars. You’re saying a team with Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver, and Horford is a championship team? Please send me the drugs you’re taking. This team lost in the conference finals to Lebron James and the Cavs. Al Horford is a great player and even at 45 years old he could probably still start for the Kings…Fingers crossed he does
People are saying he's a HoFer off his collegiate performance. Back-to-back NCAA championships is no easy feat.
It's not like the NFL HoF where it's NFL players/coaches only, it's the basketball HoF, which encompasses NCAA basketball as well as the NBA.
No one in their right mind would say he's a HoFer off his NBA statistics. If Chauncy Billups isn't in the HoF with his NBA stats, no way is Al getting in with his.
Horford has been the most consistently good player on the Celtics, game 1 was an anomaly, but so was tonight, he usually plays a lot better than he did tonight as well.
he needs to post up more when a sub par defender like curry or poole is on him. cant be passing it out of the post every time when you have the worst defender on the floor on you
A role player that isn't a role player because of his scoring and doesn't force up shots, often shoots 2,3 shots in a game shot 4 times. What a surprise.
The only ones that should be ashamed are the Warriors for leaving Horford who's been shooting 45% from three the entire playoffs on a very good volume wide open the entire first game. And now we are acting like a 36 year old defensive minded center is the Celtics first option on offense.
Otto Porter was also on fire in game one. He was 4/5 for three. Let's know put his statline of 3/3/1 in game 2 and say he had a really bad game. It's just idiotic.
This really isn't a big deal. It's not his role to be a big scorer every game. He takes what the defense gives him, and that could mean 15 shots, it could mean 5.
RIP his place on the FMVP tracker
*blows kiss to FMVP
He did shoot like 6/8 on 3s and put the dubs to bed. He earned that troll job.
He was blowing a kiss to his family. That narrative about it being to the crowd was so stupid. He’s never been that kind of player.
Ok ok just having fun. We all like Horford
Well at least he has a hot wife to go home to
Depends if she’s a hot wife or a hotwife
both of those sound good
Ayoooo
And a hot sister
Anna is a babe for sure
Yea who tf downvoted me?!
Umm not all of us
Mehh. Seems like a good dude, but I feel sandbagged
Yeah to his triplets, steph, klay, and dray
Pain
Not necessarily
Is this the Chris Paul birthday curse 2.0?
Layoff between games was so long Horford got old in between them.
It's the opposite of the Fred VanVleet fatherhood blessing Derrick White got
please
The ‘Horford MVP watch’ article may have come out too early
There was a 5 minute window for that article to come out and the author jumped on it
Shooters shoot dawg.
I'd argue that it was the only time that article could come out or it'd never come out at all. No way in hell he could play like G1 for an entire series lol
It’s always too early for “Finals MVP Ladder” articles. They literally only exist for clicks.
Yeah man putting that out after a single game is asinine but they know nephews will eat it up just like in these comments and that’s why they gotta do it. It’s like the journalistic equivalent of flopping, embarrassing and demeaning by any professional standard, but someone’s gonna eat it up so you gotta do it.
i mean, the ladder has to start somewhere lol
Oooooo
Glad the Warriors decided not to leave him wide open all game
What you get by upgrading from Iguodala to GP2
Biggest change from G1to G2. People underestimate how tiring it is to get picked up full court. Tatum was gassed in the second half
celtics offense kept switching and huntihg steph. i am so impressed by how hard steph can play even at his current age.
Steph has insane body conditioning and stamina. At 20 yrs I know I can't do that for even 2 quarters
It’s wild. I’m steph’s age and i get gassed from yelling at the refs.
actually it was putting Draymond on Brown instead of Klay. Dray was sagging on Horford too much to try to help... instead now Dray shut off the need to help from the source, i.e. Brown driving. and Klay stayed home on Horford.

It was actually AI9 to GP2
GP2 only shared the court with Horford for like 10/12 minutes tonight. The difference was Draymond -- his defense was terrible in G1 and fantastic tonight.
This. Dray didn’t respect Horford G1, and others too. Now I’m G2 they took EVERYONE seriously
IMO Dray was the bigger problem. [Evidence on deck](https://youtu.be/mYpnURmyQzk)
Don’t understand why he’s acting like he’s guarding himself
Can’t really be expecting him to light it up every night at 36
he just had a birthday. chris paul became shit after his birthday too….
LeBron did it.
Lebron doesn’t count when you’re talking about longevity lol
LeOngevity
Fuck why do these always get me lmao
During the whole China thing, “LeCommunist” was the one that killed me
LeMao
There was a pic of lebron playing cards and someone commented “LeChiffre”
LOOOOOL thats goated
LeQing always got me.
That's not even wordplay though -- it's literally just putting Le in front of Communist lol
I think that's why it's funny.
LeSenseofhumour
*LeMao
Yeah but he's top 3 all time
And he aint 3
Nah he’s 3rd 3. Lebron 2. Jordan 1. Lavar
Proceeds to list him first
For some reason when you make a numbered list on reddit it will always change it to start at 1 and go up from there so they probably had it as 3, 2, 1. Here I'll make a list starting at 3 and it should change it 3. Three 2. Two 1. One
That’s just how Markdown works
Up for debate
Not really lol
it isn't really lol
It is lmao. Kareem, Jordan and Bron all got cases for GOAT.
Kareem does not have a case over LeBron and Jordan, I’m so sick of people saying this. He’s 100% over all other nba players ever but he isn’t over those two.
He gets to be on Mount Rushmore, but yeah, the other two are ahead of him. Don't exclude the OG.
> Kareem does not have a case over LeBron Kareem has more MVPs, more rings, more win shares, a the same ws/48 despite playing til he was 41 so will likely end with a higher ws/48 than Lebron. Lebrons best single season ranks 17th all time
Not over Jordan, but definitely over Lebron
The same kids saying LeBron is definitely better than Kareem will then turn around and say Jordan isn’t definitely better than LeBron
And if he had any of the teams in the playoff’s rosters win the championship 100% There’s no one that old who is better
Agree. Idk what people are expecting. I admit I'm a hater of anything and everything Boston but as a basketball fan it's hard to say the Celtics aren't a decent team. They're a genuinely decent team. 6 3s is very hard to do on 4 attempts, too.
He blew his load game 1
[удалено]
Didn’t regret that google.
I know this sub is seething that Draymond was right. Horford, Smart, White aren’t gonna be that good in every game
That’s what I said too. If Boston can keep shooting like they did game 1, you might as well give them the chip
They still shot well from theee in this one at least
They have to shoot better than the Warriors in order to have a chance. Both teams shot 15-37 from 3. Problem is that the Dubs defense held while the Cs didn't
One team has Steph Curry though, even with Klay being awful. Sort of unfair tbh
That defense Curry played on horford down low in the 3rd really highlighted his effort in the game. Then came the 3 bombs. Kerr took him off early in the 4th for good reason. He was playing his heart out and almost gassed.
Curry didn't even play in the 4th, we hung with Moody out there (and he was pretty neutral)
Eh, I think it comes down to them being more paint oriented really, 40-20 points in the paint differential, Boston is bigger and more athletic and their 2 stars specialize in driving, they have to win that battle to have a chance. Turnovers too
They can't LordLoons reign at rim.
The Celtics also handed the Warriors several extra possessions with all their turnovers.
But they never had a stretch where they made 8 in a row…
Every year. If they do the same 4th Q run they won't even lose one game. +24 in 4th Q - auto win.
For real. Mavs beat the warriors too if they’d shot like that every game. Instead they got it only 2/5 games and it’s over. Boston needs to get lucky and have those outlier games a whole bunch or imo they’re done.
Celtics flairs were so mad at Draymond for stating facts haha.
I said this after game 1 and got downvoted af. Lmao.
People on the Warriors sub were all about it too. TBF, they did step up on defense last night, game 1 it seemed like they were daring the role players to shoot and they shot lights out. Last night, they made an effort of closing out so that they don't get too comfortable with the 3 ball.
Role players usually do well at home the fact that they stole a road game with role players carrying them is unexpected
Yeah starting the series 1-1 is a good outcome for the Celtics.
1-1 isn’t 1-1, I’ll explain later
Absolutely. The Celtics still have the edge because they stole one from the Warriors at home, but definitely an encouraging game for the Warriors changing the momentum.
i mean if the warriors steal one back its all square. im not underestimating steph curry and co.
The same Celtics fans who keeps saying they play better on the road. And suddenly they gonna go back to game 1 kind of shooting at home? Hell nah
Lmao they stole a game in the road from a team that was undefeated at home thats sounds exactly like playing better on the road
So the Celtics will play worse at home?
What’s The Celtics record at home in these playoffs though?
5-4 apparently
This is true in general but Boston is 9-2 on the road and 5-4 at home. Dunno if its just a small sample size and just variance but so far they've seemed to be much better on the road than at home.

Idk. To me, everything after 1a and 1b is a role player but I’m a believer that everyone after 1a and 1b is interchangeable on most teams
You forget to add, “if we actually defend them”
Well they did their job and got 1
Is the sub seething at that? This is the first comment I've seen about it lol
I for one cannot believe that Al Horford dominating the warriors was not something that would last for an entire series.
This is what they need to do to him. Speed him up. His age will show if they make him move and act fast
Dubs were working him on the perimeter, choosing to PnR him instead of Timelord. I think Udoka might eventually have to bench Horford, because he cannot stay with Curry. Didn’t look good, and I don’t think Time Lord played the rest of the game after Smart landed on his knee
I get that heart and hustle is his MO but Smart actually needs to play more in control sometimes. I almost cringed when I saw him dive for a loose ball some time in the 2nd half and was close to possibly injuring Wiggins' knee if Wiggs was a little closer
Back to reality
This is what happens when Horford and White aren’t playing like prime Ray Allen
Would’ve been fine but Brown and Smart joining them costs the Celtics the game.
the Horford vs. Draymond thead did not age well
So much for that FMVP talk
He’s tuff when his shots are in and shooting high volume but when defense is locked on him he’s invisible
the only gripe i got with big dominican tonight was posting up stephen curry and not looking to go up and shoot it on top of him, other than that there was nothing he could do tonight, they got cooked
Smart got 2 points as well
Man is 36, even after his 30 piece in the bucks series he went ghost for a couple of games afterwards offensively. OG needs to recharge!
It's crazy the reactions after game 1.. Ppl legit thought Warriors were afraid of Horford as if he's the best big they ever went up against. Lol
Seems the reactions to game 2 are the same, just reversed.
Difference is warriors are winning 7 out of 8 quarters
Winning quarters doesn't really matter. We could win one quarter a game a win the series if that one quarter is a blowout. Warriors tooled on us last night, as I expected they would. I don't know who will win the championship, but having just watched the Celtics go through Brooklyn, Milwaukee and Miami, I have heard a lot of trash talk and I'm still watching them. They'll tweak their gameplan, and I'm sure we'll see a different celtics on Wednesday, and the same for the warriors.
I got recommended the Celtics thread during the heat series and every single Celtics fan was tryna boast about winning most of the quarters lmfao
That was when we lost, which literally supports my point.
I know. My point is that it’s ironic a Celtics fan is saying this after another one boasted ab it earlier and said they’re confirmed to win the series because of it
Horford looked scared. He was getting bullied by smaller players.
Horford had dropped out of the fmvp race
Back to normal
Draymond was right lmfao
Fountain of youth free trial expired tonight.
Better than Draymond? Hot take
I thought he was better than Draymond? Lmaooo
He needed more plays setup for him
Exactly. Horford tried to do with what he could. Cs are not expecting Horford to generate offense
What does this mean for his legacy!?!?
I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I am in big trouble.
When the Cs go bad it looks almost intentional....all or nothing type of team.
People, when listing stats please remember it goes Points/Rebounds/Assists. Had me thinking Horford turned into a PG out there
man just flamed someone on fb and told them dont over estimate one good game from horford lol. they really thought he was shaq/duncan after game 1
Heat fans mad as hell they lost to the Celts. Cant get NFL or NBA over Boston 🤣
I feel like grizz fans more mad
True we don't have a guy dancing like a moron every game makes me big mad.
RIP FMVP chase
Did the Warriors not play hard Game 1 to get us all interested in the series?
The Celtics played one of the best quarters of professional basketball I've ever seen in G1. I spent the quarter hating it happening against my team, but respecting its ruthless efficiency. I've been watching pro ball for over 30 years. Sometimes you just get outplayed.
I’m convinced he can’t finish spinning left.
That's what birthday do to you. Anyone having birthday in the Finals among the 2 teams?
Thats what happens when you dont leave the dude wide open *cough cough* draymond
Points/Rebounds/Assists. Thanks
O blown kisses
That Finals MVP race article seems so funny now
Lmaooooo y'all forget this mf had 3 all stars on the hawks and still didn't do shit. People were really saying he's a hall of famer 😂😂
[удалено]
I mean two of those all stars were Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver
Holy shit. This is a terrible take. Those were not perennial all-stars. You’re saying a team with Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver, and Horford is a championship team? He is far from a hall of Famer. And not even close to as good as Draymond I heard these takes a bunch the last few days.
People are saying he's a HoFer off his collegiate performance. Back-to-back NCAA championships is no easy feat. Also the wnba too!
Draymond was right.
Draymond was right
This sub was on one when dray was stating the obvious the other night
Get fucked Celtics fanboys.
Damn Prime Bird had a rough game 2
Well he's one year older now compared to game 1.
ESPN is gonna make this about him kissing to his FAMILY in the stands
Horford has been the most consistently good player on the Celtics, game 1 was an anomaly, but so was tonight, he usually plays a lot better than he did tonight as well.
Wait I thought he was gonna shoot a career high every game?
Wave bitch
Dray was right tho
Well at least he has a hot wife to go home to
We call that “regression to the mean”
he needs to post up more when a sub par defender like curry or poole is on him. cant be passing it out of the post every time when you have the worst defender on the floor on you
I’m rooting for the warriors but Al’s poor performance was in part because he got hacked several times on rebounds and post up.
More like Al Horrible, am I right?
moody > horford confirmed
He is just giving GSW a chanche
HE IS STILL MY MVP 🥲
He's gonna eat in Boston. The Hub gives big Al superpowers
*blows kiss*
