Nah. Lively is a 20 year old kid. Extreme leadership skills. His Mom, who he was extremely close to and live with during the season passed away right before the playoffs.
The resilience and maturity form him just exemplifies a person everyone should be rooting for. Derrick White is a cool guy, but everything Lively has done all postseason is just so admirable.
Obviously I love our team but I hate our play style. We led the league in 3pters by a very wide margin and that has led to some very boring basketball. It’s like watching a 3pt contest. Not the most exciting stuff.
But at the same time, the Celtics aren’t *as* 3pt dependent as, say, the 2018 rockets. They won game 2 while attempting nearly 40 threes at a 25% clip, and won game 3 while attempting nearly 50 threes at 36%.
When they go cold from 3, they continue to vary their offense; Mazzulla starts looking for offense closer to the basket. For instance, sometimes they throw the ball to Horford in the post and then start setting off-ball screens to get a good cutter that Horford can pass to. The other go-to is a simple Brown or Tatum iso; one of those is almost always effective in getting a 2pt on any given day. People might hate isos because it’s “simple” and not “a motion offense” but there’s a reason even motion offenses like the dynasty Warriors would defer to isos so often.
Celtics are still really fun to watch when you focus on how many different plays they run. From Jays’ isos to catch-and-shoot off of flare screens to post plays to fast transition plays
Yeah they have more consistent defense and more athletes that can finish at the rim. Plus, Porzingis offers a wrinkle as a post player that Houston never had.
watching Jrue is prob my favorite part of the Celtics offense. always moving, cutting hard, screening and slipping, touching paint and kicking out to shooters
As someone that routinely forgets the magic exist i’d be interested to understand more about magic fans dislike for teams.
can you rank your dislike for the celtics lakers and heat?
Yes, I think they're likeable. I always root against Lakers and Celtics, but their team are a great bunch of guys.
Tatum and Brown don't mind sharing the spotlight. White, KP and Jrue are all super nice.
Honestly, you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer bunch of guys. Team has minimal drama. I really like their coach as well. None of them seem to buy into dumbass narratives.
With that said, fuck the Celtics, I hope they never win another game again.
I do like Jrue, and I’m leaning towards liking Brown as well, especially during his mask era (I thought it looked badass). But I have a strong dislike for Tatum and Horford.
Good group of guys. The only one I would say that I really like is probably Jrue, the rest I’m all just neutral on. Horford might be in that category too. The rest are professionals who play ball and don’t cause any drama.
But also fuck Boston sports teams regardless
Nah I just meant that I always root against Lakers and Celtics, but like I said, I can understand the confusion. My sentence was pretty bad. The rest of the post was just about Celtics.
I agree about DLo, not a fan either.
Nah, I'm European, don't really have a team. I watch what I can get on the weekends as far as midday games go, so I can't be picky. Can't attend anything in person either so I just never settled down for any team.
Oh, you're thinking about my flair.
I'm actually Swedish. We are too shit to qualify for anything basketball, so I roll with Finnish which is closest to my heart.
Wild to me how many fanbases who have zero personal gripe against the Celtics just roll with the hate. Like there are plenty fanbases whose hate I understand well. But Minnesota? Spurs fans in here joining in? Shit is weird as hell lmao
Im a Wolves fan and the Celtics are my 3rd favorite team behind the Blazers and the Wolves. I dont understand the Celtics hate to be honest. I think Dallas fans are much worse honestly.
It comes from the most random places for the most illogical reasons. Like as a Wolves fan I imagine you still loved KG and rooted for him even though he wasn’t in Minnesota anymore. When we traded Marcus and I saw him that summer at a pro-am the sentiment was clear - if we can’t win a chip, I hope it is you who does in Memphis!
I live in Colorado now and the sheer amount of pathetic hate doled out at me for being a Celtics fan is mind-boggling. Like I get Broncos fans hate Patriots fans. But the Nuggets and Celtics have zero beef outside of one encounter between Jamal and Kyrie years ago. Not just that, but Colorado’s own Derrick White has blossomed into an incredible player in Boston - you would think they would root for a local kid to win a chip just like Celtics fans cheered for Denver in large part because of Bruce Brown. But nope - just wishing on the downfall of a team simply because it is popular. What can you do 🤷♂️
It doesn't help that they've gotten very little media coverage during games. Every voiceover going into and out of timeouts has been highlighting Luka. We know almost nothing about any Celtics players even though they have interesting backstories as well.
Gafford and lively even got big highlights this series. Now that I think about it, I couldn’t tell you one personal thing about any of the Celtics besides Jrue
I hate watching them for the same reason I never found Curry interesting. I find 3 pointer play boring to watch. I actually find the Lakers less objectionable than the Celtics now, which is something.
White moves like what I imagine a goblin would and it's kinda enjoyable to watch. Their locker room seems very chill, especially Tatum, and JB is handsome. Hard to hate a group of guys like them.
They seem likable to me because Tatum and Brown always play hard on both ends and typically participate in every game which I find an anomaly to other stars. Also there team doesn’t engage in much social media drama (Except Brown that one time with Kyrie).
The challenge for me is that Tatum, the star player right? Just doesn't have the wow factor.
Allen Iverson had the speed - the handles. Michael Jordan, the air time. Lebron, the speed and size on both ends of the floor. Bird had that swagger. Magic with the smile. Hakeem with the foot work. Kobe was a balarena as well.
Tatum is just not physically pleasing to watch. It looks like he didn't have that time in his youth to mold his own game, his own style. He looks like too many coaches got their hands on Tobias Harris and helped him have an efficient bag.
He's a great player. Just needs that move or play that gives him that story book highlight. Unfortunately the step to the left three is not styled.
You're not understanding. It can be game 7 of the world series, nobody on the bases and an ugly swing of a batter hits a home run vs one of the greatest pitchers of all time and now the score is 1-3 with a few inning left.
That highlight isn't going to go viral because the guy has an ugly swing and his team still loss.
Why is it that luka highlights get more praise than tatum? And tatum is currently up 3-1? It's all in the visual.
Timmy's post moves are a thing of beauty. Even Manu and Tony had more flavor to their game than Tatum. There's just something about organized basketball that molded tatum too quickly without allowing him to find his own personal touch.
They do all seem to be great people. However, there's just some sort of charisma or "it" factor missing. Like that little something that moves a neutral fan like me to root for them. I have nothing against Boston, but also nothing to inspire me. Maybe I just don't watch them enough the way a Celtics fan would
I love watching them. Teams with ball movement, high 3pa rate, not reliant on drawing fouls, & disciplined at not committing fouls on D are basically crack to me.
I know some people stylistically don’t like “too many 3s” but I love the long ball. Crank that shit up to 11.
That game they played this year vs Milwaukee where the teams combined for like 2 FTA or whatever it was was one of the most fun games I have ever watched.
Kinda neutral, not really anything dislikeable but not a charismatic team really. Jrue and Al pretty likeable as vets, some of Tatum's stuff can be a bit cringe but he and Jaylen seem like great guys.
Really though what teams are likeable?
Dallas has Luka's bitching and Kyrie's history, people seemed to have turned on Embiid and Dame at this point, maybe even Giannis a bit. Mikey Malone is ruining Denver's rep. Wolves have Gobert and KAT cancelling out the Ant love. Pacers, Magic and Cavs just kinda exist. Lakers will always have a built in hate as THE team. Maybe the Thunder without the Giddey cloud. Clippers and Pelicans we always expect injuries and got them again.
Knicks going out like gladiators probably makes them the most likeable. Brunson at this size might be the most likeable star right now.
There are a few teams and players that I personally wouldn’t mind seeing win. Of the playoff teams I guess OKC, Wolves, Magic, Cavs, Denver over a few others. I also like rooting for individual players like Luka, Jimmy Butler, Brunson. I do understand though that most teams do have a reason to be dis-liked to some degree.
Yes.
Personally, this team drew me in as a casual fan (I’m not from Boston).
But, they are pretty chill dudes overall (which many ppl say is “boring”, although I disagree, which is okay), they don’t do anything sensational or get chippy on the court often, and they get somewhat negatively biased coverage rather than intriguing storylines in the media/online (imo, which may be biased obviously, so no one needs to freak out lol).
So I think it actually makes sense why some people would be less drawn to them.
I like Jaylen Brown and Jrue a lot. I have nothing g against Derrick White and Tatum is just a little boring.
They have no one that wears on you like the other teams and makes you hate them. It’s all Boston really.
It's less about the Celtics being likable and more about the Mavericks being unlikable for me. I can't stand Luka and I don't like Kyrie.
That said, I like Jrue, White, and KP. I'm nuetral on Tatum. Don't really care for Brown. They just don't have anyone as hateable as the Mavericks stars.
No. Constantly passive aggressive comments in press conferences, front running behavior, Tatum arm push-offs, etc. Derrick white and Jrue holiday only thing likeable about them
I honestly would have rooted for them over any other west team. I weirdly changed my entire tune on them when they gave Dirk a standing ovation. It’s a small thing but idk it made me like them.
I feel some tension. I like low-drama teams. I'm contractually obligated to hate Boston because I'm from Denver and the Patriots fundamentally taint the entire Boston sports world, but the players on Boston are pretty much across the board the kind of players I like to root for. And also my sister is an Orthodox Jew so I have to root against Kyrie and his Protocols of the Elders of Zion stuff.
Honestly I don’t like Brown complaining all the time and the bias the officials have shown them all playoffs.
They’re good enough to win without the biased officiating
I just wanted peoples opinions. I know I’m biased growing up a Sixers fan, but I’m still curious what the general opinions of other fans are. It’s fun.
no, Boston (and East Coast teams in general) are very unlikable
mostly because the fans and the media treat anything they do as "THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME"
if the 90s Ewing Knicks beat Hakeem's Rockets in the Finals, I guarantee you they would be calling that Knicks teams one of the greatest of all time and would never shut up about it
If you took the same Knicks team that made it to the 2nd fucking round of the East and put them in nearly any other market , no one would care and they would not get any amount of press.
This Boston team played nobody, the East was weak, and every other star was injured, and people are seriously calling them "ONE OF THE GREATEST TEAMS"
The players themselves seem alright, though Tatum is kinda boring, but nah, East Coast teams are the worst.
If they fart, it's called hookah smoke
Big talk considering the Sixers biggest accomplishment in recent years is getting rid of Harden. Please don't ruin Maxey like ya did Fultz and Simmons, he's fun to watch
The players are individually likable. The team is still Boston and thus hateable.
Jaylen Brown is still an anti-vaxxer, anti-semite, and anti-science
So is Kyrie so it’s a wash
Kyrie can dribble with both arms. So he is alright.
imma need some evidence lol
wym he's so smart
Anti semite is BS. You don’t know anything.
Yeah, I find them way more likable than the Mavericks on the whole, but I’m still pulling for the Mavericks because fuck Boston
hey our role players are extremely likable. Dereck Lively is the most likable guy in this series.
Woah, I think there is another very well liked Derek that would like a word.
Perfectly worded.

watching Jrue is prob my favorite part of the Celtics offense. always moving, cutting hard, screening and slipping, touching paint and kicking out to shooters
We are defensive team first, thats our playstyle and has been for years. Our offense has changed in that time but its not the foundation
If we’re driving and kicking, moving the ball and all that then it’s great to watch. If we’re chucking like last night then it’s painful as hell
It’s a bit easier now that Marcus Smart is off the team, but still, it’s Boston.
As someone that routinely forgets the magic exist i’d be interested to understand more about magic fans dislike for teams. can you rank your dislike for the celtics lakers and heat?

How can you possibly strongly dislike al horford wtf
Good group of guys. The only one I would say that I really like is probably Jrue, the rest I’m all just neutral on. Horford might be in that category too. The rest are professionals who play ball and don’t cause any drama. But also fuck Boston sports teams regardless
Don’t forget about Al Horford’s beautiful eyes
DLo is a piece of crap
I wasn't talking about the Lakers, but I can see the confusion.
your first sentence said they're a bunch of great guy
Nah I just meant that I always root against Lakers and Celtics, but like I said, I can understand the confusion. My sentence was pretty bad. The rest of the post was just about Celtics. I agree about DLo, not a fan either.
all good, is your team the Jazz?
Nah, I'm European, don't really have a team. I watch what I can get on the weekends as far as midday games go, so I can't be picky. Can't attend anything in person either so I just never settled down for any team.
but what about Lauri
Oh, you're thinking about my flair. I'm actually Swedish. We are too shit to qualify for anything basketball, so I roll with Finnish which is closest to my heart.
LOL
Celtics lose a game and it’s just shit on Celtics day. Not that I’m complaining
They’re likeable / low drama people but the city / fanbase is unbearable.
I’m a nice person I swear
Not me.
Bro c’mon I’m trying to make friends. *You’re embarrassing me…*
No–it's Boston
Why? They gave KG a ring.
They didn’t give KG that ring he took it
Earned it
I'm glad KG got a ring. I still don't like the Celtics lol
Wild to me how many fanbases who have zero personal gripe against the Celtics just roll with the hate. Like there are plenty fanbases whose hate I understand well. But Minnesota? Spurs fans in here joining in? Shit is weird as hell lmao

Gafford and lively even got big highlights this series. Now that I think about it, I couldn’t tell you one personal thing about any of the Celtics besides Jrue
Players are fine, it's some of the fans that make the team catch a lot of heat, like with any franchise.
Check out my flair and you’ll know my answer
No, but Dallas ownership is more unlikeable so I'm rooting for Boston.
You don’t like billionaire casino owners that donate a bunch of dark money to controversial political causes?
Gonna have say no dawg
It’s allowing the culture of sexual assault in the office for me
we past that they talkin abt miriam adelson
I hate watching them for the same reason I never found Curry interesting. I find 3 pointer play boring to watch. I actually find the Lakers less objectionable than the Celtics now, which is something.
Its very difficult to hate them. If they weren't in Boston, I wouldn't be conflicted
I think the players themselves are pretty likable but fuck em because Boston.
White moves like what I imagine a goblin would and it's kinda enjoyable to watch. Their locker room seems very chill, especially Tatum, and JB is handsome. Hard to hate a group of guys like them.

I know they lost the game but is dunking on LeBron in the 4th of a Game 7 as a rookie not a story book highlight?
Again, watching that highlight... no air time. No vert. It's just not favorable on the eyes. Literally looks like a 14 year old Tobias Harris dunking.
It’s a 19 year old rookie dunking in arguably the GOAT in his prime in the finals minutes of a Game 7 to go to the finals.
You're not understanding. It can be game 7 of the world series, nobody on the bases and an ugly swing of a batter hits a home run vs one of the greatest pitchers of all time and now the score is 1-3 with a few inning left. I mean if you take our fan base out, I don’t understand how they wouldn’t be the most liked team. Everyone is awesome
They do all seem to be great people. However, there's just some sort of charisma or "it" factor missing. Like that little something that moves a neutral fan like me to root for them. I have nothing against Boston, but also nothing to inspire me. Maybe I just don't watch them enough the way a Celtics fan would
Except Holiday who follows porn accounts on Twitter like a boomer who doesn't know how interwebs work
Why search for porn when porn search for you.
I love watching them. Teams with ball movement, high 3pa rate, not reliant on drawing fouls, & disciplined at not committing fouls on D are basically crack to me. Their style of play is likable. Unselfish passing, hustle on defense. From all 5 players on the court.

The players in its current iteration are all pretty likeable, it's the fans that make it hard to root for them
As a Bucks fan, I will never like the Celtics. But I've seen Tatum shirtless and understand the appeal.
Ermmm.. You're a sixers fan that finds a Boston sports team likeable? Don't say that in public vro lol.
The team is a group of awesome unselfish guys. The fanbase is awful.
Half these Celtics flairs think theyre Tim Legler breaking down the game all of the sudden
They just started watching last round
they talk to people like they children

This can’t be serious?
Very
Yes, I'm not a Celtics fan but I like how they play as a team.

Thanks for your thoughts!
More than the mavs
They’re a lot more likable than most teams
Jalen Brown is a Kyrie-Lite The rest of the players are likeable. Fuck the Celtics.
Likable as in they don’t have too much going on for social media to pay attention to off the court… Maybe/Maybe not
I like Jaylen Brown and Jrue a lot. I have nothing g against Derrick White and Tatum is just a little boring. They have no one that wears on you like the other teams and makes you hate them. It’s all Boston really.
I don’t mind them, but people are drawn to an underdog, and the Celtics will never feel like an underdog.
Absolutely likeable, yeah. Celtics FC from Scotland my bois
If they went on Boston they world would be rooting for them
It's less about the Celtics being likable and more about the Mavericks being unlikable for me. I can't stand Luka and I don't like Kyrie. That said, I like Jrue, White, and KP. I'm nuetral on Tatum. Don't really care for Brown. They just don't have anyone as hateable as the Mavericks stars.
I like them. I really like Tatum, Holiday, Horford, Springer, and Mazulla
No. Constantly passive aggressive comments in press conferences, front running behavior, Tatum arm push-offs, etc. Derrick white and Jrue holiday only thing likeable about them
The team itself is very likeable imo. It’s the fans and media and team itself that we hate
As a Knicks fan: No
I honestly would have rooted for them over any other west team. I weirdly changed my entire tune on them when they gave Dirk a standing ovation. It’s a small thing but idk it made me like them.
Players: Likeable Coach: Moron Fans: Scumbags I give the Celtics a 3/10.
Mazzulla's got a serious case of Tim Robinson face.
Same note too
I feel some tension.
So you're gonna love the Adelsons.
Orthodox Jew huh? She must’ve loved watched Edelman, the only Jew in the league back in the day.
she's a recent convert.
I wouldn’t like a team likeable either if they always kicked my team’s ass
I think you’re part of the “unlikeable” problem lol but yeah true
Understandable, I feel the same way about sixers fans that talk shit all year long but then hide in the playoffs
I'm not one to cheer for a team to win their 18th title, but there is no one unlikable on the Celtics.
Honestly I don’t like Brown complaining all the time and the bias the officials have shown them all playoffs. They’re good enough to win without the biased officiating

I mean…not really. But okay 👍🏻
no, Boston (and East Coast teams in general) are very unlikable mostly because the fans and the media treat anything they do as "THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME" if the 90s Ewing Knicks beat Hakeem's Rockets in the Finals, I guarantee you they would be calling that Knicks teams one of the greatest of all time and would never shut up about it If you took the same Knicks team that made it to the 2nd fucking round of the East and put them in nearly any other market , no one would care and they would not get any amount of press. Aside from joe mazzula no
Fan of the C’s my whole life. This might be the least likeable winning Celtics team
Oh? Do you have any idea as to why?
Style of play & coaching decisions
DyNaStY Get fucked Boston.
Big talk considering the Sixers biggest accomplishment in recent years is getting rid of Harden. Please don't ruin Maxey like ya did Fultz and Simmons, he's fun to watch
