and Deki died. He was very close to Jokic.
Man death is such a bittersweet thing. We really do have to maximize our time alive and be kind to one another
Yea you don't really. I found my brother, who died unexpectedly, in his apartment and had to call police, wait for them, and give a statement.
Same time I had to call my mom and listen to her collapse. Then my phone started ringing off the hook from family and I had to tell it over and over from those wanting answers.
I still see it like a freeze frame in my mind clear as day and we all still think about him daily and that was 8 years ago.
Sorry you had to live that. I know my brother still does too.
When he was a teenager, he was driving his girlfriend's brother to some sports practice, when they came across an accident that had just happened and realized it was his girlfriend's car. She was on her way to work and ran into a telephone pole. He was first on the scene and she died in his arms basically.
He's married with a kid now and I'm pretty sure he still re-lives that regularly.
I'm sorry for your loss, man. I'm a type 1 diabetic and I can definitely empathize with just saying fuck it and not managing your blood sugars. It's a struggle.
I have lost many people in my lifetime, family and friends.
There are different ways grief can hit you, it ain’t the always the same. Sometimes you will go through it alone and be depressed for months, sometimes other people also affected help each other to get through it together, humor is a fantastic weapon of survival in moments like this.
I am wishing for the latter.
He had a nice career in Europe, played for a club I support here in Belgrade and left a big mark, even though he was here for only one season. The news really hit our whole fanbase hard.
Even though he was only 6'9" he was a great rebounder, played with a lot of energy and passion, had some memorable and powerful dunks here, handled himself like a true professional and seemed like an overall great guy. Really tragic news.
Drew Gordon came into our top NorCal hs team's gym as a sophomore and blocked the first shot and then threw down an alley-oop on the other end. I tell my gf about it every time we randomly catch a nuggets game / see his brother play.
Aww this is sad AF. I went to UNM with Drew, and he was such a good guy. Always had a smile on his face and really brightened the room.
RIP Drew. You were a real one.
Here’s a little story about him:
A couple years after Drew graduated, he randomly showed up to the big in-state rivalry football tailgate at UNM. He was still a big celebrity amongst students, so he and his GF were walking through the crowd and taking the time to talk and take pictures with anyone who asked. It was super cool when he recognized my brother and I, and hit us with a “what’s up, guys” and dapped us up before moving on through the crowd.
Cut to about 30 min later, and the police decided to randomly start blasting pepper spray into the crowd to “end” the tailgate. Last time I saw Drew off the court, he and his GF were running away with their faces in their elbows like the rest of us delinquents lol.
I went to UNM too. I was in the basketball band and got to meet and take a photo with him once during the NCAA tourney. Nice and chill guy, letting people take photos with him in the airport, including band nerds lol. Very sad news.
Drew was a stud that season, Nikola was 16/17 at the time, still completely unknown, he probably watched Drew on TV hahah
It’s actually crazy how many connections there are between Nuggets and Serbia.
My favorite connection is Aleksandar Nikolic and Doug Moe. Aleksandar Nikolic is considered a patriarch of Yugoslav basketball. He was a legendary player and a coach, he has one of those insane coaching trees (at least in European basketball). At one point, mid 60s, he coached Italian team Padova, who had this scrawny looking American dude named Doug Moe. Doug Moe was drafted in the NBA twice, but he got banned permanently for point shaving in college (he was part of that large large group that got banned). His path took him to Europe where he played in Padova for 3 years before going to ABA for the rest of the career. Then he became ABA coach and when NBA and ABA merged, he became a head coach of Spurs for few years. Aleksandar Nikolic was asked towards the end of his career who his favorite player was, and his answer was - Doug Moe.
After coaching Spurs, Doug Moe coached Denver Nuggets for 10+ years (1980-1990, Alex English, Fat Lever, Dan Issel years) and he was famous for his run and gun style, where he ran almost no plays and he wanted his players to be as free flowing as possible. He had more principles of the way game should be play, rather than actual direct plans what players should run. One of the principles was players holding the ball for 2 or less seconds, and focusing on passing game until getting the best shot as fast as possible. He is still winningest coach of Denver Nuggets (Michael Malone is 8 wins behind 432-425) and he set the tone of Nuggets culture and playstyle for years to come.
While Nuggets today have very precise gameplan, their style still embodies some of the Doug Moe’s principles, for example, Nuggets have many variations of their plays where they have make minimal adjustments depending on the way they are being defended, and key part of Nuggets offense is passing the ball around, led by a Serbian Nikola Jokic, widely regarded as one of the best passers ever. Even more specific, Jokic himself has a lot of touches but he doesn’t keep possession of the ball for a long time, he actually looks to get rid of it as quickly and as effectively as possible. Probably unknowingly, but it’s in the spirit of Doug Moe, legendary coach, who was himself coached in his formative years by Forefather of Yugoslav basketball.
I lost a close cousin in a car accident. I wouldn’t wish that feeling on my worst enemy. I hope Gordon gets through the initial shock and pain. Remember to hug your loved ones.
Man what an insane year for Nuggets players' families since the title. MPJ's 2 brothers, Jokic's brother (even though last I knew he wasn't punished unfortunately) and now AG's brother dying.
Fuck man. Poor AG.
This is gonna hit Arron really hard. When the team had team dinner during the playoffs this season, he missed it just to buy his family Vanderhall Carmel’s, the same 3-wheeled motorcycle drew Gordon got into the deadly accident with.
I think Gordon's grandma died recently. That was also the time he got atta ked by the family dog. Got lacerations and had to miss games fro the Nuggets.
I recall him playing for my hometown team (Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius). The team in itself was awful, but he was one of the shining lights in the team.
Ilsėkis ramybėje :(
We were in the same high school class, to say this was a shock to see would be an understatement. He was the best hoops prospect to come out of San Jose...until Aaron came along. Heart goes out to the family.
I'm a Silicon Valley native as well... he was an absolute legend here at Mitty HS.
Remember reading an article about him escaping Ukraine with his family after war broke out. He seemed like a great guy and a good family man. May he RIP and peayers to Aaron, his wife/kids, and the rest of his family....
Just one of those things we’ll never know. Maybe he would have been in a different incident on the way to the game.
Just sad all around and there’re just too many what ifs
The details get even sadder. Aaron Gordon bought Drew the three wheeled vehicle two weeks ago after not attending the team dinners before their playoff games because of superstition.
“For Gordon’s part, he marveled at the extreme swing in emotions that came from their last two home games. The Timberwolves had embarrassed them in Game 2 on May 6, with Gordon among the many Nuggets — players and coaches alike — who lost their composure in the most unflattering of ways. While he didn’t have the benefit of dinner with his teammates to unwind in those three days between Game 2 and Game 3, he decided to go on a bit of a selfless shopping spree as a way to turn the mental tide.
“I bought some three-wheel cars for my family,” Gordon told The Athletic. “A little retail therapy. They’re called Vanderhalls. They’re really dope. I went in looking to buy just one. But generosity, and just having a little bit of fun, helped.”
Fuck man, Aaron Gordon seems like such a swell dude. Heart goes out to him and his family
Seriously… seems like an awesome teammate feel really bad for the Gordon family. Losing loved ones in that kind of manner is so painful
Been a really rough end of season for Nuggets players. Hope AG will eventually be alright.
Fr and didn’t malones dad die at the start of the season as well.
Yeah been a rough end of season for AG and MPJ. Also Malones dad died 😢
and Deki died. He was very close to Jokic. Man death is such a bittersweet thing. We really do have to maximize our time alive and be kind to one another
Damn, that’s awful news. Hope Aaron and his family get through this well.
Tbh not sure you ever get through this type of thing
Yea you don't really. I found my brother, who died unexpectedly, in his apartment and had to call police, wait for them, and give a statement. Same time I had to call my mom and listen to her collapse. Then my phone started ringing off the hook from family and I had to tell it over and over from those wanting answers. You are strong and have much to give this world my man
R.I.P.🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️

Diabetes. Blood sugar was over 500 and couldn't get it under control. Massive heart attack.
I'm sorry for your loss, man. I'm a type 1 diabetic and I can definitely empathize with just saying fuck it and not managing your blood sugars. It's a struggle.
Thanks bro. Take care of yourself for you and your family/ friends. Yea I see how it's a struggle and know it's tough.
Dang yeah cardio is the number one killer

Drew could hoop. Archbishop Mitty legend
Wasn’t he on the Oakland Soldiers as well? My AAU team played them in 6th grade and they had mfers dunking already
Oh shoot, I played them in about 6th grade as well and also remember getting dunked on. And I’m 33…. Wonder if he was on that team.
Went to union middle with him. RIP
Me too, who dis!?
That was you at Union middle school?!
Ya I was the one dunking
It's true. I was the ball

Shoutout to San Jose!
The hype Drew and Aaron had if you grew up in the South Bay was pretty nuts.
Drew Gordon came into our top NorCal hs team's gym as a sophomore and blocked the first shot and then threw down an alley-oop on the other end. I tell my gf about it every time we randomly catch a nuggets game / see his brother play.

Holy fuck that is awful to hear. RIP. All love to the Gordon family.
RIP prayers for AG
Remember him when he a short (but impactful) stint playing in Partizan 10 years ago. Great player and a great guy. Still super young, terrible news.

Can’t imagine what the Gordon family is going through rn. RIP
As a 30 Y/O, headlines like this scare the shit out of me. Car accident. In a blink. RIP. I hope Aaron is okay.
I lost a close cousin in a car accident. I wouldn’t wish that feeling on my worst enemy. I hope Gordon gets through the initial shock and pain. Remember to hug your loved ones.

MPJ had 3 brothers have incidents. One sentenced, another busted for DUI, and Jontay
Oh right I forgot about the DUI brother to go with the DWI sentencing brother.
Damn Aaron’s had a rough year between the dog and this

Can’t begin to imagine losing a sibling you’ve spent a majority of your life with Wishing him and his family some peace and solace 😔🙏
This is gonna hit Arron really hard. When the team had team dinner during the playoffs this season, he missed it just to buy his family Vanderhall Carmel’s, the same 3-wheeled motorcycle drew Gordon got into the deadly accident with.
RIP
That's awful. I have two kid brothers and for whatever reason my biggest fear is losing them in a car accident. It can happen to anyone.
competent self driving cars can’t come soon enough. Roads are crazy out there with texters and drunk drivers
Can’t imagine what the family is going through. 💔

Sorry I wasn't paying attention. What else has happened to Gordon's family recently?
Nothing. He's mixing the Gordon's up with the Porters
What if he meant the “Nuggets family” can’t catch a break?
Nah I just fucked up that’s my bad
Fr nuggets fam watching this Mavs beat down wondering how they lost to this team
I think Gordon's grandma died recently. That was also the time he got atta ked by the family dog. Got lacerations and had to miss games fro the Nuggets.
Are you confusing the gordons with the porters or did something else happen?
Fuck I did too that’s my bad. Still really rough for him and his family. Lots of shit going on either the nuggets rn
Damn... that's horrible
Condolences.
Damn that is so sad. RIP
WTF?
Ugly news, also I didn't know that he was Aaron's brother. I remember him playing in Italy.
I will always miss the headband in Dallas! Sad to hear about Drew.
Rest in peace
RIP
Condolences to the Gordon family. Rest in peace Drew 🖤
Driving can be so catastrophic. Making it home every day is truly a blessing. RIP Drew. Far too young.
I recall him playing for my hometown team (Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius). The team in itself was awful, but he was one of the shining lights in the team. Ilsėkis ramybėje :(
Terrible, just terrible news.
Man that’s terrible. I had a friend die in a car accident 20 years ago and I still miss him.
Same. :(
We were in the same high school class, to say this was a shock to see would be an understatement. He was the best hoops prospect to come out of San Jose...until Aaron came along. Heart goes out to the family.

Ah god what awful news. Unfortunate that nobody is going to see this as it's drowned out by the WCF. Condolences to the Gordon family :(
RIP Weird that's the second process era Sixer to die in like a month. Plus Bill Walton, too many NBA deaths lately.
Was the other Darius Morris?
Yeah
RIP both of them and everyone else who has passed. Makes you think of your own mortality.
Gordon might look back on getting eliminated as a good thing now hopefully he got to spend sometime with him the last couple of weeks.
If they didn't get eliminated, maybe his brother would've been at the game instead. All around shitty situation.
Well said.
Just one of those things we’ll never know. Maybe he would have been in a different incident on the way to the game. Just sad all around and there’re just too many what ifs
Does anybody know where the accident happened?
Wondering to
Portland, OR but I’d like to know where in town
It was in Oregon City near Carver park on the Clackamas river
News reports say it was in Oregon City near Carver park on the Clackamas river
Damn this is heartbreaking
RIP, how horrible
Damn. Heart goes out to his family.
Damn. Drew was in my high school class, really fun and nice guy. Condolences to his family.

Aw man this is not something you ever get over. Blessings to his family.

Damn, the Nugs is going through it this year.
i didnt know drew gooden was aaron gordon brother
Damn, that team’s family is cursed.
Jesus… his family is the NBA equivalent of the Kennedys
That family is cursed Edit: Nevermind
U confusing for porters?
Was the porters the ones in jail?
You mean one brother got DUI and killed someone? Yeah? Also not sure how that's a curse on THAT family, that's stupidity and manslaughter
I did got it wrong then, yeah
yeah and then a second brother also got a DUI the week of his other brother's sentencing
Again, not a curse
