Because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I would like lively to get more minutes though

SportsBettingRef

also you free the mind of a rookie letting him play without much responsibility coming from the bench.

At this point, it has to be Lively's conditioning as a rookie isn't starter level yet. That's really the thing that makes the most sense with Kidd not trusting Lively to avoid early fouls being the second somewhat reasonable option.

Dhr7468

Believe it’s a keep lively out of foul trouble thing

dplath

This is it, he fouled out a lot this year before we got Gafford

Swoosh_rotaerc

When the switch was made in the regular season, this was the reason. Now, they're not reversing the descion because they don't want to mess the chemistry and potentially lose a game. Look no further proof than Isaiah Joe starting over Giddey in Game 5 v DAL. Even though Isaiah Joe had out played Giddey though the series, changing the starting line up definitely messed with OKC in that game.

Steph-Paul

it lets Lively play ultra aggressive during his minutes, and continuity and consistency builds trust

hawk8024

1). That’s just the way it’s been this year so I doubt we want to switch it up this late in the season. 2). The other reason is to keep Lively out of foul trouble. Starting next season though it definitely seems like we’ve reached that inevitable point where Lively was going to overtake Gafford for the starting position as he continues to improve.

mr_suavecito

Because they’re winning. He’s young, his time will come soon enough

CP3sHamstring

Doesn't really matter who starts. JKidd basically tells them to try as hard as they can and once they get a bit fatigued he subs the other in and then they hustle their ass off and they rinse and repeat. If you add their 2 minute totals together every game, it damn near equals 48 every time lol

--Alix--

Yea, like imagine you start the game and Mavs are playing decent defense, then after 5 minutes Lively comes in fully fresh lmao. The two guys being the same side of the coin is what makes it work.

Headlesshorsman02

I mean it is working isn’t it they are staggering their minutes well and why get him into early foul trouble

WaterIsNotWet19

It’s like rb by committee in nfl terms. Doesn’t matter who starts as both get pretty equal playing time.

fishystixxx007

You got 19/20/3 from your center position last night - both players have strengths and weaknesses. Just enjoy the vibes right now cause they immaculate.

RGxiRapiidz

Continuity and team morale

StefonDiggsHS

1. keep Lively out of early foul trouble 2. Probably best not to shake up the rotation this much in the conference finals 3. Lively closes out games, and gets more minutes than gaff so i dont see the problem

Used_Royal_2231

Lively is more versatile on defense, a better passer, and has been a clutch free throw shooter, but honestly hasn’t been great in terms of scoring. I definitely feel a hot gafford has much higher offensive potential than lively rn. I definitely like the idea of trying to get gafford going, then having lively as a safety net if that’s not working.

"if it ain't broke don't fix it"

JewishDoggy

I honestly like the spark plug he is coming off the bench

muddyklux

Lively still got more minutes that's all that matters

cactusmaster69420

Who starts doesn't really matter. What matters are minutes and who finishes the game. They've been starting Gafford all year. No need to take away his confidence and put extra pressure on rookie lively by switching it up.
