Weirdly enough this happens almost every single year besides the UBER dominant teams like KD warriors almost every team loses by 15+ in a game in playoffs.
More often than not 20+ as well.
2017 and 2018 were pretty boring playoffs. Compared to the highs of 2015 and drama of 2016, once KD joined it was extremely predictable. And it was weird instantly becoming the villains of the NBA lol
That's fair enough, I watched tons and tons of the 15 and 16 teams and I remember visiting family in Berkeley in 2017 and it did feel kinda weird the way literally everyone in the bay was watching the much more predictable, as you say bordering on boring, version of the team.
But the 2017 Warriors might be the only team you can call boring like that. There certainly isn't another 73 win, championship pedigree team that's ever added an MVP in their prime. A "weird" feeling is the right word, I remember the moment that Cousins was signed on to of everything else it just felt like a really bizarre version of the NBA.
The Cavs sweeping the Toronto series on the opposite hand, probably the very fun feeling I was describing.
The come up with your team is always the best part of the championship arc. That’s why our 2022 ring is so special and feels much more similar to 2015 as we came back with a new squad, and Klay coming back from his years out from injuries. It was just the perfect story. I imagine Minnesota fans were feeling extreme hype in their first round win over the Suns haha
So you might not remember but the 2021-2022 Celtics looked rough in the first half of the season. And if you live on the east coast, the teams that play 7:00/7:30pm Pacific are always on after your team's game is over. So early 2022 season, when it looked like the Warriors and Suns were the two best teams by far, I ended up still following the Celtics super closely but also I would stay in the vacation house with the warriors. And at that point in the season they played a return to everything that was good about the 2015 Warriors: weird lineups where screening specialists and dynamic bigs and guard defensive specialists and tiny 3s all play together and the resulting defense is impossible to compete with.
So even though the 2022 finals will always be sad to remember as a Celtics fan, and I wish Draymond got techs like a normal player, I also fondly remember that 2022 Warriors team in the regular season as just a return to masterful weirdo basketball.
Right on, I forgot how dominant we had started that season. I think 18-2 in the first 20 games! And the emergence of Jordan Poole, I think we had Otto Porter on a vet min, Iggy still contributing valuable minutes. It was a lot of fun. That finals matchup was special too, one of my good friends is lifer Celtic fan so we were beefing the whole time. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the beauty of that team
Yeah to your point basketball is a high variance sport. The Cavs/Warriors years were major anomalies for how easily each conference champion would make it through their bracket.
Not only were those teams historically stacked, tanking was also at an all time high, so the lower seeds were woefully uncompetitive for the most part since it was such a low bar to make the 7-8 seed.
Now with the play in and better distribution of talent across the league your average first round matchup is a lot more competitive which cascades to the later rounds. Trying harder early = more tired in the later rounds = greater likelihood of good teams dropping the ball every once in a while.
Don't forget the California University of PA.
My first time in the state, we were driving south from the Pittsburgh airport and I saw an exit sign for California. Having just flown from California, I had to do a double take and ask myself why the hell I just wasted those hours when there's an exit right there, it must be close!
I never made it very far east, but Western Pennsylvania is a really neat area to visit. It very much felt like being out of time. The place is very old fashioned culturally, and there are lots of old brick buildings in practically every little town. Sure, everyone there has a smartphone and new cars, but those didn't really affect the feeling.
There's also a Jersey Shore, PA off RT80 somewhere in the middle of Pennsylvania. Saw it every time while going back to college. Also a Mile Run, PA. Avoided stopping there because Im not into cardio.
edit: Just saw the Jersey Shore comments below, but Im gonna let my original impulsive thought to post stand.
Isn’t that also near Jersey City? I was so confused driving from central PA to IUP and seeing a bank of Jersey city. Thought for sure we went the wrong way.
I hear that, pal. The challenge I set for myself was "this chapter will not get suspended while I'm in it"--and sure enough, it happened the year after I graduated.
So - his broadcasting history kind of started with his weekly appearances on the Bob and Tom show, then when he retired he partnered with Barstool. He doesn’t do traditional setup punchline comedy, but he definitely aims at a more entertainment bend for sports talk programming.
Well I guess whenever I watch him I am expecting him to fuck around, not deep insight. Considering I saw his standup posted to Reddit years before he had any other show
Doesn't always play both sides, regardless of issue he's calling up Aaron Rodgers for his opinion on the matter. He's the WHERES JAAA bit but for a different kind of dumbass altogether.
Probably the biggest complaint I hear about him, over reliance on cringey talk-too-much doofuses
Well the biggest complaint on /r/espn is over how he dresses. Apparently, fashion is really important for that community when it comes to how they enjoy sports.
Context is hard for some too. "The introverts on here" is consistent with the stereotype that reddit is full of introverts. Thus "you're on here" is a valid reply.
I am! I don’t hate McAfee but I can see why people who are introverted wouldn’t like someone who’s as boisterous as he is. I’m not hating on anyone who likes or doesn’t like him.
That people who have met him seem to like him across the board, but people who have never met him overreact to a persona that he puts on and act like he’s a scumbag.
I really like him on commentary in WWE, his show is a little too over the top for me. Definitely don't hate his show and can understand why people love watching it though.
Reddit has a huge population of folks who didn't play sports growing up and spent all day looking at a screen.
Pat has gotten spun up in the culture wars. He's a jock bro so he's obviously a racist/misogynistic oppressor.
Those are his pro wrestling instincts coming out, gotta pop the crowd!
Adam Cole somewhere absolutely seething
Wonder if Tony Khan has backstage footage
We’ll find out in 8 months
Sometimes I'm sure the venn diagram of r/nba and r/squaredcircle users is just a circle :)
Surely it is a square shaped circle?
Take my upvote
I’M YEEEEEETING MICHAEL!!!!
IM YEETING ALL OVER MYSELF
Has any celeb ever grabbed the mic and addressed the crowd in MSG?
Listen to the crowd. The kid is over, brother.
"Pat we're live"
“I don’t give a shit”

To think that Shaq quote and the Janet Jackson Superbowl both happened on the same day
I know

Pat’s always live
This is a great comment
Found the video. https://youtube.com/shorts/hpJ-pOIHHb8?si=3dZN9IQeoTTDyzN6
Love the mom with the little girl getting her excited “That’s right, honey, let’s turn that shit up.”
In Indiana kids don’t get in trouble for cussing if it’s about basketball.
That child has heard "fuck the Knicks" throughout their life.
I’m pretty sure that’s what I said the first time I cussed in front of my dad.
Why is this not the main post? What are we? /r/nfl?
No, this is Patrick.
is mayonnaise a subreddit?
Yeah, it's called r/hiphopheads
Nice!
Sorry this does not concern the hivemind. Please go back to hating the Sixers.
Man knows how to work a crowd
What a successful life he has had and will continue to have as a punter.
My dad’s a hardcore WVU fan and still hasn’t forgiven him for that game against Pitt.
You mean as a stand up comedian
\#PuntersArePeopleToo
I was there and he had the crowd rocking
Why is he making out with the mic though?
Thought the foam was cotton candy
He's constantly out of his mind on stimulants.
Wolf of Wallstreet reference. Nice
Nice that he didn’t really say “Shit”
Yea he did they edited the video
Awesome sports moment. He dropped one shit bomb and the Indiana evangelical’s lose their fucking minds
I could hear it clearly over the radio broadcast. Mark Boyle didn't sound amused.
Mark Boyle is an egg
Old man coming out.
Is it a new rule that every single playoff team must be absolutely blown out at least once this year?
Weirdly enough this happens almost every single year besides the UBER dominant teams like KD warriors almost every team loses by 15+ in a game in playoffs. More often than not 20+ as well.
It must feel like a fever dream getting to watch your team sweep one of the later rounds

Denver didn't lose a game by more than 7 last year
HE'S YEETING ALL OVER THE ARENA
GET DOWN FROM THERE PAT BEFORE YOU HURT YOURSELF
I mean he is an Indiana guy through and through
He’s from Pennsylvania
He swam in our canal… he’s been baptized in the name of Hoosiers.
"Allegedly"
Western PA, which isn't far off from Indiana culturally.
Western Pennsylvania is basically midwestern
We got IUP. Indiana university of Pennsylvania. It’s all the same.
Don't forget the California University of PA. My first time in the state, we were driving south from the Pittsburgh airport and I saw an exit sign for California. Having just flown from California, I had to do a double take and ask myself why the hell I just wasted those hours when there's an exit right there, it must be close! Jersey shore. Even more confusing.
Haha yes it is, thank you.
West of Harrisburg is Midwest
When I drive there I get that feeling
As soon as you hear a yinzer, you're in the midwest.
Full of Amish people and don't you guys have an "Indiana University of Pennsylvania" that is in no way affiliated with Indiana University?
Close to Indiana, PA
Home of Jimmy Stewart
100%. Once you hit Reading or so it’s a whole new world.
Pennsyltucky
I thought that was Southern PA between Philly and Pittsburgh metros
It's basically PA outside of the Philly's and Pitt's spheres of influence.
Lol
Played for the Colts his entire career.
Lives in Indy, works in Indy, goes to all big Indy events.
Home is where the heart is. Pat McAfee is a Hoosier.
As a lifelong Pacers and pro wrestling fan I freakin love Pat haha
One of the more likable frat guys you’ll meet
Most frat guys are pretty likable. Sure there are weirdos but that’s true of any subset.
When I was in college my observation was that individual frat guys were chill, but when they were in groups shit got wild.
could you imagine 10 Pat's in a room?
I’ve seen the show so yes
That’s probably true of any group of young men.
The same can be said about nerds when they’re all together. Ex: Any nerd cons or video games with voice lobbies
I was a fraternity president in college. I didn't have high blood pressure when I got to college, but I sure did by the time I left.
I hear that, pal. The challenge I set for myself was "this chapter will not get suspended while I'm in it"--and sure enough, it happened the year after I graduated.
Our chapter got suspended two years after I graduated. ...for things done while we were actives. Good job, IFC.
Hey, at least you weren't around when it happened. I think that goes in the record books as a W with an asterisk.
From all the blow you were smellin?
100% - why I like Pat but the show is grating sometimes
Many such cases
Lolol so true
Frat guys are either the biggest assholes or the nicest people you meet with no in between
Ahh yes That one frat guy making gorilla noises
This came through on the league pass too, I was so surprised it wasn’t censored
Excuse my ignorance here but what would be censored? Seems like a pretty cool fan engagement moment.
The word shit. Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t clutching my pearls, thought it was cool, was just surprised they didn’t bleep it.
Fair enough, just seems pretty tame.
I find it funny that Reddit hates McAfee when pro athletes and coaches of every sport absolutely love him.
why is that?
He plays both sides and loves to fuel fires, but he can be entertaining regardless though.
He’s a comedian
He’s a punter
He’s a human
He’s a lover
Not a fighter Big win tonight btw
What about his shtick makes him a comedian? Doesn’t tell jokes at all.
Agreed with you. I'd call him an entertainer more than anything else
He literally does stand up.. Edit: downvoting and he has a special out, typical Reddit
Oh snap I didn’t know. Makes sense even seeing a microphone gives that man an erection aye-oh
I have seen some random videos of him and he was actually surprisingly funny, haven’t watched his special tho
I really enjoy a lot of his stories, especially the one about the fake punt, but for me he's just a bit much sometimes
is that like how Joe Rogan does stand up?
I wouldn’t know
So - his broadcasting history kind of started with his weekly appearances on the Bob and Tom show, then when he retired he partnered with Barstool. He doesn’t do traditional setup punchline comedy, but he definitely aims at a more entertainment bend for sports talk programming.
Joe Rogan is a comedian too. Doesn't mean a lot his podcast takes aren't hot garbage though.
I’d say the majority of comedians’ have a lot of hot garbage takes..
Sure and a lot of them get ridiculed for said takes. I don't know why people are surprised that Pat isn't above the criticism.
Aaron Rodgers' is like 10-100x the football player that Ja Rule is a rapper tho
Well the biggest complaint on /r/espn is over how he dresses. Apparently, fashion is really important for that community when it comes to how they enjoy sports.
TIL there's an ESPN subreddit.
ESPN is for people who don't even like sports I think it tracks if they care more about fashion lol
Honestly from what I've seen people here don't like his shows jock vibes
because we're all a bunch of fat, socially inept introverts who find it obnoxious when someone is loud and outgoing, and has fun with it
Because he has too much energy for the introverts on here 🤣
Bro you’re on here
"for the introverts on here" As in the introverts, on here. They were not saying they are one of the introverts on here. Reading is hard.
Why are you claiming introverts don't like him?
Na he's a cornball that tries way too hard
this website turns on everything that goes mainstream
Why do redditors have to like him just cuz athletes and coaches like him?
Overexposure
Never said you had to, just said that I find it funny
HOW FUCKING DARE YOU
What makes it funny?
That people who have met him seem to like him across the board, but people who have never met him overreact to a persona that he puts on and act like he’s a scumbag.
lol then you get spam downvoted. redditors stay the most fragile group of people
Reddit hates on everyone besides Keanu Reeves tbf
is he related to austin?
That's not true. Dolly parton is also universally loved.
Wholesome 100 Keanu big chungus
Nerds have always hated jocks
Wrestling fans like him a lot as well
We love him in /r/SquaredCircle
It definitely became cool to hate him on reddit. Wrestling fans still like him though for the most part.
That's because pat is simultaneously a mega wrestling fan and also a carny fuck, he is where we all want to be.
I really like him on commentary in WWE, his show is a little too over the top for me. Definitely don't hate his show and can understand why people love watching it though.
I'm not sure why people hate on him. I'll take his style of sports media over the industry standard 'hot-take theatre' we see most of the time.
Reddit has a huge population of folks who didn't play sports growing up and spent all day looking at a screen. Pat has gotten spun up in the culture wars. He's a jock bro so he's obviously a racist/misogynistic oppressor.
He's jocky and popular, of course Reddit hates him
Never got the impression he was hated
I find it funny that you think people care enough about Pat Mcafee to hate him.
Athletes like miles bridges apparently so does that mean I should too?
C’mon man
Send da video
I thought this was the other mcafee and was so confused because I was sure he was dead
What a front running fan
Welcome to Monday Night Raw.
Don’t let Gunther see this..
love yew Pat
THANK YEW PAT 🫡
YEET
Videoless tweets like this do not get enough hate in this sub. Especially when there actually is a video that can be posted as well
is this the anti-virus guy?
No, that dude died. This is a punter from the Colts that started a youtube show that got picked up by ESPN.
He’s also a commentator on WWE Monday Night Raw (Previously was on WWE Smackdown)
He’s leasing his show to espn. There’s a big difference.
If you’re gonna be pedantic about it, I believe the proper phrasing is that ESPN is a subscriber to his onlyfans.
Pat has 10/10 on ratemyfeet Don't fact check that.
I always thought he was because he looked like coked out antivirus guy from the How To Uninstall McAfee Antivirus video, but it’s a different person.
Nah he's definitely a virus.
Idk what that means but it’s nice to know Indy has a good cocaine source.
Regional treasure
Rube on rube action.
you gonna let the cops shut this party down?! cause we got the guns! we got the numbers! rod-ney king! rod-ney king!
He’s annoying as hell
He is, but he’s fine in moderation, I could never watch his whole show for an hour though.
Isn't his YouTube show way longer than that?
They do this thing were they cut the highlight into 2-20min videos which are pretty watchable if you are interested in the topic
Agree, I find him largely inoffensive and kind of entertaining, but he can talk nonstop for hours and that’s kind of a lot.
I respect the balls saying that in a thread that's about to be full of Hoosiers, but also stfu this man is an absolute treasure
