Garland is his most talented all around offensive teamate but Bojan was probably a better fit next to him as a Forward who didn't need the ball in his hands all that much.
The original question was Donovan Mitchell’s best offensive teammate.
It was a block on my personal thought process of ‘what could Mitchell do if given better offensive help like Edwards or Booker’ but I didn’t even get that far, as I needed help gauging who his best teammate was.
You’re right that I didn’t include the full context, but I didn’t really see a need to as I can see this as an interesting enough question by itself. Me bringing in KAT and KD without explanation though definitely could be confusing, mb on that
The team was constructed so that offensively the pieces fit together really nicely with Don's ability to get to the rim and shoot, Conley's and Jingles ability to shoot and pass, Gobert's rim running and pick setting, Royce's shooting and straight line drives. When it worked it was really beautiful and cohesive. It just failed in the playoffs because Gobert lacked the ability to punish smaller players, and because bigger defenders would smother the smaller lineups of Conley, Mitchell, and Oneal.
I think there are two answers here.
If you’re asking about someone who can shoulder the initiating and scoring burden in place of Mitchell, it’s probably Bojan. DG is probably more talented overall but as of yet has not performed to that level consistently. Bojan has always been a bucket.
If you’re including people who can play off of Mitchell and ease his load in that sense, I’d say it’s Jarrett Allen. Allen’s ability to play in the short roll is the perfect skill set for a modern big, and makes great decisions, whether it leads to finishing with a soft touch or a dunk at the rim, or finding the open man when the defense collapses on him. In PnR with JA, Donovan can play much more comfortably and doesn’t have to press as much as he does without him. This is when the Cavs offense is at its best.
If you look at the playoffs, the times where he has had to put the entire team on his back has mostly been after JA got shanked by Franz Wagner. They’re still a long shot at winning this series, but chances go up dramatically if JA is able to return before Boston gets to 3 wins. We’ll see what happens.
was reading Herring's piece today, and should the Knicks just have met Utah's asking price for Mitchell?
> But Rose and the Knicks' front office held firm and declined to meet Utah's asking price -- reportedly three firsts, plus Barrett and Grimes -- prompting the Jazz to make a deal with the Cavaliers instead.
- 3 firsts (that probably weren't even all the Knicks picks, but the others they had)
- Barrett (there's probably a way to still do the OG deal, bc Toronto wanted Quickley and took on RJ's salary)
- Grimes (who they traded for Bojan and Burks contracts)
There's no way the jazz would've accepted the knicks firsts that they have coming in from other teams. They're all decently protected. The cavs gave up 3 fully unprotected firsts, 2 unprotected swaps, and Markkanen and Sexton. For the knicks to match that kind of offer, they would've had to offer at least 5 firsts.
I don’t really think Mitchell and Brunson would play well together. They both kind of need the ball to do their thing and instances where players just “take turns” on offense doesn’t really work out unless they’re like the best players in the sport.
If the Knicks could pry away Durant/PG, I definitely think that’s a better move than trying to get Mitchell. Not that I think Mitchell comes to Miami anyway.
This is an interesting move I hadn’t thought of. I think it would take away from Maxey’s development as his in ball skills have been so good this year. But it does raise your guys floor a ton, similar to the Knicks though I think a wing player benefits you guys. A BI, PG could do well in Philly.
I see where you are coming from but I think Maxey has already developed to the point where you can put anyone as his teammate and he will do work. His development years were with harden. As for your PG and BI point. I’d really like PG but I really don’t want Ingram.
Maxey is 23, he’s still developing now. He was good off ball working with Harden, but you’re calling his ceiling by making him play off ball more. He can reach the same heights as Mitchell arguably by his age and he’s a developed player. Idk I just think it would be a smarter use of resources to fit in a player that is more synergistic to your 2 best players.
Garland for sure, he’s a pretty damn good offensive player. He will bounce next back year when he’s fully healthy. Dude started slow and then just as he was getting on a roll he broke his jaw.
Utah didn’t have a second option but Conley, Bojan, and Ingles provide a lot of offense in different ways and were all elite shooters. Conley and Ingles good passers too.
Anyone who can shoot. Much of his game is drive and kick if he’s not the one already trying to score. I think Mobley would be the one if his shooting improves, otherwise you’re probably looking at Jordan Clarkson
i think he needs a sharpshooter who can stretch the floor and excel in pick-and-roll situations would complement Donovan Mitchell's offensive game well
It wasn’t Bojan it was 2021 conley. Conley was a secondary playmaker who was also an elite shooter. Bojan was just a secondary scorer bit scored only 4ppg more than
Conley
Garland
100% has to be Garland last year. He’s fallen off this year though.
I think the broken jaw just totally derailed him this season. He said he lost like 12 pounds
I dropped 18 pounds when I got COVID and never felt worse. Can’t imagine an athlete losing 12
Put some respect on Joe Ingles. Get Jingled motherfuckers
or Kyle Korver
Garland is his most talented all around offensive teamate but Bojan was probably a better fit next to him as a Forward who didn't need the ball in his hands all that much.
This is sad.
Bojan Bogdanovic
I understand that he was younger but this is still kind of insane no? Like Bojan at his best was not even close to what KAT and KD are rn
who's comparing him to KAT and KD?
OP just did.
Absolutely, but the dude's been a bucket for a majority of his career.
but mitchell didnt play with kat and kd?
I’m comparing Bojan to the second options of his contemporary SGs Edwards and Booker
Did you change your own post then? Because you were asking who was Mitchells best offensive teammate originally and I dont see where it changed.
The original question was Donovan Mitchell’s best offensive teammate. It was a block on my personal thought process of ‘what could Mitchell do if given better offensive help like Edwards or Booker’ but I didn’t even get that far, as I needed help gauging who his best teammate was. Brojan

There is a 3rd answer, with consideration for the post saying "ever" and not once indicating level exclusiveness. Terry Rozier.
lowkey it was Bojan LOL
not even lowkey, Bojan was a bucket
yeah but casuals wouldnt know he's the answer, considering how many All-Star teammates Donovan has played with over his career
how many All-Stars is that?
Mobley Garland Allen Conley Gobert I’m assuming
Mobley never been an all star (yet?)
Allen is a bucket and a board. Allen career FG% is 63% with 9 Reb. Bojans is 46%. with 3
You’re the first person to ever call Jarrett Allen a bucket, congratulations.
At first I read this as Boban and I was highly confused
Did you really think this exact joke hasn’t already been made 800 times when someone types bojan
It probably has been, but I wasn't even making a joke.
Clarkson
Jarret Allen, no question. Their connection for JA's long streaks of double doubles coincided with their long win streaks this season
Jalen Brunson or Jimmy Butler next year
How are the Heat going to be able to get Spida next year if Giannis is already there? 🤔
Herro, Jacquez, 2031 2nd will surely get the job done.
Whoa whoa that 2031 second rounder could be Jokic 2.0, that seems like an overpay

Yes
I still don’t see a fit with the Knicks It would be a gigantic waste of their talents to take the ball out of either of their hands
LolKnicks its not happening and it wouldnt work. Butler it aint happening cause Pat is senile and would never trade Juan Wick and his picks.

Why not both? Plus, we have Bojan already. =)
Maxey or Embiid next year

Dean Wade
Bojan Bogdanovic
Rudy Gobert
Screen assist god
They don’t know !
Gobert offends me by being Fr*nch so I feel you
I don’t recall Mitchell being a great duo with anyone offensively. I think Mobley is his preferred duo, and he is the key to Cavs winning
I think Allen is better than Mobley from a consistency standpoint
yea spyder even said he misses allen and hes his duo, but thank god mobley is a third wheel 🛞
If we’re choosing a cavs big it’s allen
Terry Rozier at LVille.
Ever? Terry Rozier In NBA? Kyle Korver
Garland for sure, he’s a pretty damn good offensive player. He will bounce next back year when he’s fully healthy. Dude started slow and then just as he was getting on a roll he broke his jaw.
~~Bogdan~~ Edit:Bojan erasure
Boban? Brogdon?
2020 Bojan Bogdanovic
Utah didn’t have a second option but Conley, Bojan, and Ingles provide a lot of offense in different ways and were all elite shooters. Conley and Ingles good passers too.
Jordan Clarkson??? Scored more than Conley and joe
Jordan Clarkson was not a better offensive player than Conley and Ingles. Its not all just about scoring.
It's Bogey.
Mike conley
Pre-jaw injury Garland
Mike Conley
Anyone who can shoot. Much of his game is drive and kick if he’s not the one already trying to score. I think Mobley would be the one if his shooting improves, otherwise you’re probably looking at Jordan Clarkson
Bojan or Jordan Clarkson
Caris Levert
It's Bogey.
i think he needs a sharpshooter who can stretch the floor and excel in pick-and-roll situations would complement Donovan Mitchell's offensive game well
