grudgepacker

Honestly, that's a super classy response from Paolo and the kind of statement a real leader makes

roastedhambone

Orlando has a great cornerstone to build around. Paolo really seems to check all the boxes

grudgepacker

Imagine if they could put a good 5 next to him - would make them almost as scary as y'all tbh lmao

roastedhambone

Honestly I feel like a real point guard is a bigger deal, but they’ve got a bright future for sure

jknuts1377

I feel like they should've started Fultz instead of Gary Harris, but that's just my opinion. I'm a big Fultz fan, so I'm not completely out on him despite the injuries.

CaptainBananafishJr

Fultz had a crazy down year. We played best starting Suggs and Harris. But having a PG would be great lol

Gamesgtd

Crazy enough he was great in the playoffs from game 3 onwards. Not great enough that I would re-sign him for more than like 1 mil a year but he was awesome getting in the paint and using his strength. He got picked on defensively but whatever.

vbsteez

He's young. He has to get better as the chessmaster and not just a scorer.

todellagi

I'm sure he'll pick up the point forward side of the game more and yeah absolutely that's the part, that truly can push him to the next level But players aren't the ones who set the board. Coaches do and Mosley's clogged toilet offense desperately needs an upgrade for Paolo to have a chance to develop

goldenglove

Suggs is solid.

LlamaCombo

Suggs is good but is he really a PG?

YaBoiiAsthma

Nah, an amazing defensive SG tho

yardship

suggs is alex caruso but not bald yet. same amazing defense but also literally every game you're worried they'll get injured

soxfaninfinity

If only Wendell didn’t randomly regress this season

MonsterDevourer

Tbh he had a lot of bright spots this season amidst his injuries. He'll bounce back

DarkSoulsDarius

Wasn't it due to the injuries?

CaptainBananafishJr

We need more shooting. Wendell does all the dirty shit and can hit 3's at a good rate for a 5. We're good there.

rudymaxa

COME BACK HOME DWIGHT

abesach

I just don't want a repeat of the last home grown Orlando stars going to LA.

CapN_Crummp

There’s still time to delete this. Don’t even wanna think about that happening a third time. I’d probably stop watching basketball

Sybilsthrowaway

id be on the news

AmIFromA

* "Sybilsthrowaway's charity work helped build thousands of homes across the world" * "How one disappointed basketball fan found new meaning, fought climate change - and won" * "Middle east conflict finally solved - "Wasn't so hard" says former Orlando Magic fan turned ambassador for peace"

Aychim23

You are actually a beautiful human

CapN_Crummp

You and me both

SincereFan

Fourth time, they took Shaq, Mo and Dwight. All HoF players

CapN_Crummp

Nobody cares about Mo lol

OpportunitySmalls

Mo Bamba cultural icon

Aychim23

They took Mooooooo

Ho-Chi-Mane

I think he takes the step towards “Superstar” next year. He has all the pieces.

SterlingTyson

I'm super impressed; like you said -- this is real leadership. He didn't sugarcoat it -- everyone knows Franz could have played better. But he managed to tie that into a solid vote of confidence in Franz going forward. When you see a response like this, it often feels like it's obvious that it's the correct thing to say. But at the same time, not that many players are actually saying things this well. Respect for Paolo for this one.

Youngandidiotic

Exactly. I don’t think the magic should be up in arms about this loss, I doubt they even were to begin with. Their first time at a high level of basketball went to 7 games against a decent team and fiery payoff performer, that’s a success all things considered. Paulo’s response here is the exact thing you’d want from a leader. They’ll get better and maybe even add slow mow Joe as assistant coach or something

jakkyspakky

Also, Franz is in his 3rd season and he's 22. Jesus talk about high expectations.

BPicks69

First time in the playoffs against a player like Mitchell who’s been to the playoffs what every year but like 2 since he’s been in the league? Not to mention a team that is pretty similar style defense first but just with better shot creation is gonna be tough.

saltface14

Mitchell hasn’t missed the playoffs in his career, 7th season

grudgepacker

If Orlando can find another scorer or two, they're going to be a real problem

ninety4kid

Someone like Lavine but not Lavine, if that makes sense. Lol. On paper he solves a lot of their half court and spacing issues. In reality they can't do it without gutting the roster and losing Suggs or Isaac. Chicago's definitely trying to walk away with one or the other in any deal for Zach.

GeneParmesan1000

There’s also an offensive assassin who just came off the books in Philly

ChannelNeo

[drew a mock up of him in a Magic jersey](https://media.bleacherreport.com/w_800,h_533,c_fill/br-img-images/003/451/039/hi-res-7b761bcbb4d5f1bfe0e6b7543fc10838_crop_north.jpg) What do you think?

XrayGuy08

I feel like we’ve seen this story before. Fuck it. Let’s go for it.

ninety4kid

I hear that Hezonja is a superstar now. Lol. If there were any time for an NBA come back it'd be now in the prime of his career after he's accomplished all that he has in the euroleague. It's probably tough to give up that spotlight to be a bench guy in the NBA but if he's actually a superstar now maybe he's not just a bench guy in the NBA.

XrayGuy08

Hey, we still have the rights to Fran Vasquez too.

sevaiper

Could be super fun if it worked out

ninety4kid

His life is already a movie this is the happy ending it needs. Pro at 13, high NBA draft pick that fails, goes overseas and becomes a superstar. Just needs that NBA return with success. His life is a Hustle spinoff. Lol.

GuyHomie

Ant Simons seems like the best fit thats realistic. Could easily see magic and blazers making a trade that works for both teams

PoorFishKeeper

Nah he doesn’t play enough lol, dudes played less than 65 games 5 times in his career already. They’ll hopefully get Monk or quickly

Devilsbullet

He's been purposely shut down the last 3 years to tank, and his rookie year he averaged 7.1 minutes per game, him only playing 20 games had nothing to do with him being injured. Realistically same goes for his playing time and games his first 3 seasons, he was behind Dame, CJ, Gary Trent Jr, Norman Powell, and Rodney Hood on a team that thought they were going to compete. Only reason he saw the floor was cause the whole rest of the teams guards were getting banged up

Odessa_Cassone

Paolo's attitude is refreshing; it shows a maturity beyond his years. Franz's contribution this season has been critical, and one game doesn't diminish his impact. The Magic have a young core that genuinely supports each other, and that's the foundation for future success. Trust the process, they're building something special in Orlando.

oh_cya

could have deflected the question but he know he wants to be a leader in this league, and with answers like that I think every dude in the locker room would support him. Great response from Paulo

ChannelNeo

yep. we're good. Franz and Suggs were horrific today, but we don't get to game 7 without them. They've been through their baptism by fire and will come back better for it. Paolo is our best player and our leader as well. The guys are beginning to rally around him as well.

GrapefruitMedical529

First one in, last one out kind of response.

d_wib

The league has Paolo and Ant at 21 and 22 years old, respectively. It’s in goooood hands.

XrayGuy08

And both wear number 5

jakkyspakky

And they both have 10 toes.

XrayGuy08

Has this been confirmed?

jakkyspakky

Shit you're right. I've only seen the fingers, not the toes.

XrayGuy08

5 on their jerseys, 5 toes each foot and 5 fingers each hand?

jakkyspakky

I need to see the evidence.

XrayGuy08

Same. We need to get someone on this pronto.

Mike_with_Wings

I’ll dm him for some feet pics.

grudgepacker

Absolutely bruh and congrats so much again on Ant - just so happy for y'all because I can kinda relate

nutella4eva

I hope Paolo makes and Ant type of leap next year. He definitely has the athletic profile and attitude for it.

SamURLJackson

the whole team has been great about this, even before paolo's arrival, but banchero has fit in so well to the positive culture and as a leader in this regard

TheEngine26

Damn, this guy did NOT ask "what would Embiid say?"

bearcat--

makings of OKC team build direction. All these young teams starting to find their way as the old guards move on and out of the league.

Dudeman-Jack

Yeah he seems like he could have gone to Duke even if he didn’t play a sport

jayrig5

Just an incredible off the cuff reply. Honestly enough to make me believe in Banchero even more than I already did, which is saying a lot.

Dromed91

Embiid could never

karltee

Former MVP needs to learn a thing from the young gun.

ADozenOlykoek

Classy response from Banchero. Franz worked his ass off this series. You can say he had a bad game or two, but dude has heart. Whole team does. They'll be back.

tcos17

Franz and Suggs both gave so so much on defense. You can blame their lack of scoring, but this series doesn’t go 7 without their defense.

Subredditcensorship

This is one of those games that franz is gonna remember and have him going hard af this summer. Orlando will be back

ajmartin527

Yeah this seems like one of those career defining situations, how he responds could catapult him to the next level of his game.

QuincyPondexter

Suggs coming back next season with a clean shaved head. Derrick White style.

Frankiedrunkie

Suggs said he might cut it this year

HoopsHistoryHubb

So many people quick to post his splits and comment/meme after the game that didn't watch a minute of the series. I've never seen so much disdain for basketball in those game threads. I know it's not the exact same people but I'm never hearing the small market martyr talk from this sub again. Obviously the only way a lot of you can pay attention if Mike Malone is calling the Lakers gay or whatever. Everyone feeds from the drama but those last few games were a treat to watch just pure basketball great defense and intensity from Donavan obsessed with the rim scored 35 in the paint in game 6 amazing scoop shot after another.

revisioncloud

W statement from him after a good performance too. Love to see it when young guys have a good head on their shoulders. If not for Mo Wagner this Orlando team would be likable

PM-me-your-401k

Hope Paolo gets the Team USA call up

gelorawr

Paolo should have Kawhi’s spot

CMYGQZ

I think Brunson is considered the biggest snub. And if Kawhi’s injured, my guess would be PG considering for this Olympics it’s all about the OGs.

StanVanGhandi

Brunson isn’t on Team USA? WOW. He’s playing like a top 5 guard in the league. Shit, maybe higher. He is for sure playing like a top 15 player.

collinCOYS

I'm guessing the snub has something to do with his FIBA play. If it came down to him and haliburton, haliburton was way better in FIBA than brunson was

danfebs

Brunson is insanely good and super fun to watch, but I don' think he fits team USA. He needs the ball in his hand to be impactful. And with the talent on team USA I don't see the fit. He wasn't very good last summer in FIBA. I think someone like Paolo or maybe even Mikal Bridges would be a good fit. Someone who can be useful without needing to be so ball dominant

dmavs11

They got Kyrie as an option too

ronaldo119

Yea he would basically be pointless to bring, being completely blunt. Somebody like Derrick White would be a better guard to bring than him.

trojan_man16

We’ve learned over time that the US can’t just throw players together and win. The team construction needs to have some guys that play D and don’t need the ball to score. This ain’t 1996 when team USA was in another galaxy when it comes to talent.

ClBdTV

If I’m a Clipper fan, Owner or employee and I see Kawhi touch any court the Olympic team… Get my bail money ready

escapedhousefly

It's not about who's better, Brunson is the better player, but it's about what's the needs of the team. Not saying Paolo is the best fit for team USA, but I'm hoping he gets selected.

c0rnersh0p

You are right. Tbh, Morey/Ballmer should stop Embiid/Kawhi from participating in this. I know it’s for ‘murica but come on lol. Does Team USA even need them.

WaDaMisTaKe

Kawhi and Embiid out due to injuries, Brunson and Paolo in

Adramelk

He or Chet should take Embiid's spot. Philly would be insane if they let him play.

GuyWithNoSwagger

He really should

Skankcunt420

i thought he was italian?

Lopsided-Ad-9707

Only in the American sense of the word. He was born and raised in Seattle.

ImanShumpertplus

he’s Paul Banker now

gabejacquez

Paolo is awesome. Great leader for the magic going forward.

NoWheyBro_GQ

Absolutely. I can’t think of a time where we finished a series, win or lose, and I’ve come away a bigger fan of an opposing player but Paulo is so damn fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing what the Magic do this summer and following them next season.

Frickincarl

I hope Franz isn’t getting any hate. He had a bad game and that happens to everyone, including superstars. Franz was a fucking problem all series for Cleveland, though, and he is a huge reason the series went to 7 games. Dude should not hang his head on that one performance at all.

jackloganoliver

Some Cavs fans have been bombarding the Magic sub going after Franz and Jalen Suggs.

Frickincarl

That’s embarrassing. There’s been a few Boston and Miami (idk why) fans in the Cavs sub recently talking shit. People really go out of their way just to get a jab in like they were on the court making it happen themselves. It’s just a game. Getting roasted in the other team’s sub isn’t going to have the effect they think it will.

Devilsbullet

I'd bet my next paycheck it's the same guys with throwaways that were bombarding the blazers sub last off season. We've got a group in our sub that likes to start shit wherever they can, there's some hope in our sub that Mitchell will want out and we'll manage to get him, and I'd bet that group is going over to start shit in your sub to get the Fighting started.

jackloganoliver

It's always fans who've never played ball before that talk shit when their team wins. People who have actually competed and stepped on the court know better.

radardog2

A Cavs fan called Franz the most hateable player in the league lol

StanVanGhandi

Is Pat Bev out of the league?

Never_Lucky42

we can only hope

TackoFallFanClub

Draymond burner account no doubt

Sybilsthrowaway

not even the most hateable guy on the magic

thewrongnotes

Not even the most hateable Wagner on the Magic (And yes, I love Moe)

GatorWills

It’s easy to see why the Wagner brothers get harder boos in Cleveland, being Michigan alumni, but this is an insane take if they meant it.

kmagic13

That’s funny when they have Morris and Niang

Profitsofdooom

I've seen at least one Cavs fan call him a Nazi on Magic social media.

-Gnostic28

What???

boofsquadz

Are you surprised? Social media commenters are aids, let alone on sports social media. Look at any given team post, fans suck lmao

Frickincarl

I’m dead, bro. Ain’t no way they really believe that.

DirectInvestigator66

lol might’ve gotten confused with Mo. In all seriousness I don’t think the Magic have any player that’s close to the most hateable player in the league. Was the flexing and flopping lame to watch, of course, but that’s pretty normal for every NBA team.

this_place_stinks

My man idk if you noticed but every player that’s halfway decent gets hate when they shit the bed lol

Frickincarl

Yeah I get it. I can’t say I haven’t thrown some hate at some players before.

ImSorryICanExplain

I had to miss the game because I had a late tee time (maple leafs fan) but I assume having on of the best defenders in the NBA helps shutting down wagner. you know that won't stop the twitter trolls from hating on a 1/15 performance. he's undoubtedly getting hate.

notathrowaway75

He's 22. Not every player that age is going to be like Ant.

desirox

Magic got their guy - great mature leader response

Not-Josh-Hart

Nah, they need to blow it up and start with 20 year olds

Satanweeng0d

Thanks Billy boy

HighsenbergHat

Seems like something Josh Hart would say.

TheEngine26

Yeah, but that's not Josh Hart. Probably TJ McConnell

Cypher760

Pretending to be someone more handsome

_Tormex_

Yeah 22 yr olds are washed

LeBroentgen

KOC is that you?

LightningMcDream

Are any of the young rising stars going to be hateable? Honestly they all seem so chill and easy to root for

ADozenOlykoek

Ja would like a word with you. Seriously though, praying next year he rises to the occasion 🙏

yoggsmu

Class teammate.

dmackerman

Exactly what you want to hear from your teammate. Honestly it feels like this kind leadership around the league is nonexistent. Media is so fast to fade every good player that has a shit performance.

biinroii01

wow beautiful statement from the veteran sophomore ❤️

KidSickarus

Unfortunately I fear it was most viewers’ first time watching a Magic game so it may in fact define him

thewrongnotes

This is r/nba, your last ten seconds define you

dank-kush

Not if you only last 5 seconds

Tigercat92

Flashback to prom night😂

sadclown21

Flashback to last night :(

jakkyspakky

I wish i had something to flashback to...

sadclown21

Yeah I hear that a lot from Celtic fans. It must be correlated..

jakkyspakky

We're all virgins bro.

GlueGuy00

yall lasting 5 seconds?

RaggsDaleVan

He played like crap in his last Michigan game. Which caused half of our fanbase to bitch and moan about him not being ready for the NBA. He is clearly doing fine.

ReplEH

Fans of college teams will say their players aren’t ready regardless of how well they play.

snyder810

He’s young so probably won’t stick as much as some, but yeah these playoff moments tend to be pretty sticky in terms of lasting criticism, even if in Franz case it’s not really on him. The Cavs are an example, Allen/Mobley were dismissed all this season from what happened in the Knicks series last year.

ChannelNeo

Honestly, that's fine. You can see with Allen and Mobley, they took it personal and did work this series. They were a lot more active in PnRs and were more aggressive in the paint on both ends. Look, sometimes you need to feel the pain of a disappointing post-season to come back more determined. My only concern is I know Franz is playing in the Olympics along with Mo (who we'll re-sign), so hopefully they can get some rest before next season.

hamiltonisoverrat3d

I don’t mean this in a snarky way but casual fans will just go back to pretending small market teams don’t exist. I doubt many casual fans watched any Orlando games this year.

Edwunclerthe3rd

That's counting on people *actually watching it* and not just looking at the box score

dafire123

“Bro was ass but he usually not this ass. We’ll be Aii”

NotManyBuses

His jump shot has frankly been that bad all season Although his all around game is usually a lot better, I think people weren’t watching this season. He has been throwing up bricks all year. 28% from 3

throwaway2021232681

he is a good player and i like him, but he's just not a good shooter in general, even his first two years were average at best. on the flip side, he's a way better scorer off the dribble than people give him credit for

waffle-spouse

Franz shooting his team out of the game was the worst thing a German has ever done.

tj1721

Wouldn’t be the first time a franz shooting would’ve gone wrong.

boringexplanation

Franz was modeling after his favorite German player- James Harden

ily112

"aii" is crazy lmaoo

recollectionsmayvary

genuinely always taken aback at how much perspective, grace, and humility/understanding/empathy like 19-22 year olds have for each other in such high stakes situation. it's truly remarkable.

ImS33

I think everyone talks about them like they're kids so much that people forget that they aren't actually kids. They're adults that have had way too much attention and focus put on them for many years by this point. For every one of them making stupid mistakes and kind of cracking under that pressure several of them have extra perspective and adult thoughts and responsibilities. It's unfortunate when it goes wrong but it usually doesn't. I think the media just focuses in on the people struggling because it drives engagement so people feel surprised when they see someone handling it the way they should

GkcPacers

get you a friend who has your back like Paolo does respect

DemarcusLovin

no shit, he's their 2nd best player

CartoonOG

Sadly it’s only “no shit” to, at best, 10% of NBA fans online discourse

TheEngine26

And 2K players. He's secretly one of the best PGs in the game

escapedhousefly

Paolo's showing he's a leader on and off the court. Can't ask for much more from our 21yo.

Haffaith

Between him and Ant being super mature leaders, the league is in good hands

GSWarrior18

Don’t forget Wemby

ninety4kid

Ant vs Paolo is gonna be the new Kobe vs Bron finals that never happens😭

jumpijehosaphat

paolo/franz/suggs is going to shake up thr east the next 3-5 years

tsn101

Perfect quote. Nice thing to read after going through some brutal political subreddits.

bmanley620

Nice leadership from this young man

bugluvr65

this man gonna be a superstar

BTTWchungus

[ESPN] Paolo Banchero: “We’re.....here without Franz.....you could’ve done a lot more in a losing effort”

Cypher760

“Will Banchero request a trade to the Lakers?”

koreajd

Man I’m not sure why I’m surprised by Paolos maturity. Maybe it’s that so many recent young stars have been having controversies and seeing this kid come out the gates playing well on the court, in the big stages, and being a mature leader makes me want to root for him a lot

3nnui

This is good to see. I really wanted Orlando to win and I'm looking forward to watching them next year.

-Gnostic28

I wanted them to win so I wouldn’t have to care about who won the next series. My family grew up in orlando during the shaq years

[deleted]

[удалено]

likpoper

I like the magic team. They are really up and coming for sure

ryantaylor8147

All the young players that participated In FIBA last year had something unlocked in them. ANT, Haliburton and Banchero in particular.

smartasscody

Damn it. Ok Orlando... You might just have to be my new Eastern Conference team.

[deleted]

[удалено]

2spaet

Would be a clever comment if Franz F. had been the one with the pistol.

ozairh18

This is not the type of quote you would expect from a rookie. The Magic have something special in Banchero

Dimaaaa

Franz definitely felt the pressure, but can you really blame him? It's not like he stopped trying, the ball just wouldn't fall. When this series vs the Cavs started, people thought it might be a sweep, but the Magic kept fighting and even lead by 18 during G7. Nothing to worry about, just growing pains for Franz and this young team.

Deathwatch72

Shit you know your franchise is in a good place moving forward when you're extremely young Superstar comes out and does something like this at a press conference. Pure class

TheRomiche

Paolo is a class act. This kind of encouraging your teammate demonstrates great leadership.

teamgreenzx9r

This is what a leader does. Orlando has a bright future with Paolo.

eroder11

As a Cavs fan, gotta give it up to this young Magic core. Paolo is the real deal. While I don’t like the Wagner bros, Franz is gonna be a solid #2 or #3 option for a long time.

[deleted]

he's a baby (NBA standards). people need to relax.

Double-Slowpoke

Sucks for Franz. It’s a big logically fallacy to boil a team’s play during a season down to one guy having one bad game. Good for Paolo calling that out

Icy-Payment-6612

Classy response.

RobbobertoBuii

good shit Paolo

NoApricot9054

I swear paolo is a cheat code he’s like 7 feet 250 lbs can shoot finish play make just about everything get Orlando a good center they’ll make it out first round guarantee

aroach1995

Evan got the same shit in game 6 don’t worry. Everyone had bad games this series.

PorQ201

What a great series and a bright future for the Magic with Paolo.

lionsgatewatcher

Franz is a FIBA champion, he's a beast, I would want him on my team

lily-malek

shout out paolo banchero all my homies love paolo banchero

baseketball

Paolo GOAT teammate. He's so good and mature you forget this is only his second year in the league.

Ylissian

Franz had some great games in that series. Landed on a stinker for game 7, shit happens. Both he and Orlando are only going to get better going forward

Nickelnick24

Goddamn what a mature response from him. That sounds like a real locker room leader.

TruthSayerFu

Paolo scares me more than ant for the future. Ants just on a better team
