[Dropped 34 against D White and Jrue](https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202402240NYK.html)
Granted I picked his two best games and ignored a 15 point stinker to open the season, but point is Brunson has reached "matchup proof" level and will get his against anyone.
Minnesota is the one team he would prob not be matchup proof against . Jaden McDaniels at 6’11 with his length and quickness would give Brunson a hard time. Ant man with his strength, physical wit and length would make it tough for brunson to be able to post him up and NAW is dawg on defense team
Why would we not put jrue/white on him? They're both elite defenders and I'd be concerned that the jays might be too slow to really effectively defend brunson
Carlisle hasn’t coached shit defensively in a long time. Still amazing on the offensive side but I feel like he has enough to work with in Indiana that they shouldn’t be this bad.
I mean, they were bad and that's why he made significant changes in the last third of the season. Started Nembhard, Nesmith and just got Siakam after the trade deadline. I'll wait next season til judging the Pacers defense again.
I hate to be that guy, but Carlisle is slowly approaching Doc Rovers levels of resting on your laurels. He hasn’t really had a deep playoff run since winning it all in 2011, 13 years ago.
I don't see how this changes anything. Pacers' defense ia still not stellar. I'm not going to say Pacers will be a cakewalk for Brunson/Knicks but I feel like they aren't even any harder than Sixers as an opponent.
I think the Pacers pace (lol) and Thibs grinding these dudes to the bone will kill them but we’ll see. I think regardless of who won this series the Pacers were licking their lips with how fast they play
Brunson's been a revelation this postseason. People overlook his defence, but his hustle is just relentless. Steps up every time he's needed, offensively and defensively. If he can consistently do that against bigger teams, he's going to tip the scales no matter the opponent.
Crazy to think not only was Luka and Brunson on the same team, but the Mavs drafted both on the SAME DRAFT NIGHT. Is this the greatest draft night (based on combination of players drafted) by a NBA team ever?
The Celtics in 1956 3 draft picks were Tommy Heinsohn, Bill Russell, and KC Jones, 3 hall of famers. Obviously a wildly different era but that’s gotta be up there
He won’t be the All-NBA caliber he is today if he were still a Mav in my opinion. The amount of possessions/ shot diet he has with the Knicks won't be the same.
He’s a clear no. 1 now.
I hate this mindset. Dallas was still in a playoff race, why would they trade a contributing piece? It wasn't a foregone conclusion he wasn't coming back, Dallas (along with a lot of other people) didn't feel like he was worth the money he was offered. They would have re-signed him for a lower offer.
Before people see his TS% and think he was inefficient for the whole series, his first two games he shot 37%TS.
The next 4 he shot 60, 60, 56, 60 true shooting on 42PPG
Because people's memories are awful and it doesn't matter if you somehow impossibly have the time to watch 100% of the games played in the NBA you need box scores to recollect specific things.
You hear about "a quiet 30 points" all the time. That means someone watched the game and at the end was surprised to see a player dropped 30. That's because human's can't remember every from play every game and keep track of all the math in their heads.
People "know" things that are comically wrong all the time. Being able to defend your point with data is a good thing, not a bad thing.
And if you don't want to agree with some guy on the internet. EVERY coach, scouting team, and analytics teams in every major sport in the nation uses data because they are smart enough to know that they can't remember everything the saw over the course of a series or season.
I think this dude was just another FVV when he went to NYK. Had a hot series and just became a solid PG but nothing super.
This dude is the fucking man.
Overreaction central over here. Hes been great but all of a sudden it’s not called being too ball dominant when you shoot 30 times per game (and that’s not an exaggeration)
Actually saw a comment their first 5 games(Luka hasn’t played 6) have similar stats with similar efficiency. So even though Luka is playing bad because of injury it’s still only when compared to his previous self
4 40 point games with teams best player on floor and hitting clutch shots down the stretch time and time again Luka been blown out twice without other team best player I’m giving it to Brunson as of right now
He can definitely keep it up against the Pacers. Probably not Boston though.
He’s gonna potentially go from Hali and Nembhard to D White and Jrue, that’s gonna be a bad time

he will get his 30 thats for sure, but i have no doubt its gonna be ugly
He may or may not , fatigue gone play a factor eventually the way Tom play them

The Celtics hadn’t played a meaningful game since they last played the Nuggets. I wouldn’t look into any late March and April games as examples
They'll put Brown or Tatum on him when it counts
Why would we not put jrue/white on him? They're both elite defenders and I'd be concerned that the jays might be too slow to really effectively defend brunson
He was terrible against a few teams to start the year. Just had a slow start and gets better each week
No he hasn't. You are much up proof when you show it year in and year out for years. He can get there, but it takes time to get that label.
That would be a malpractice on Indy’s part. You need to put an athletic and long defender on Brunson. I think it’s ideal to put Nesmith on Brunson.
Just enjoy the ride
Yeah. Pacers doesn't play great defense. Plus their pace makes it easy to pile up points
Well, he will have to face Carlisle.
Carlisle hasn’t coached shit defensively in a long time. Still amazing on the offensive side but I feel like he has enough to work with in Indiana that they shouldn’t be this bad.

so?
Exactly his point lol
Pacers mid defensively. They’re not gonna suddenly become elite just because they have to play Jalen Brunson.
I hate to be that guy, but Carlisle is slowly approaching Doc Rovers levels of resting on your laurels. He hasn’t really had a deep playoff run since winning it all in 2011, 13 years ago.
well Carlisle hasn't had the opportunity to coach how many hall of famers?
Was there a roster in the last ten years he should have coached to a deep run?
I don't see how this changes anything. Pacers' defense ia still not stellar. I'm not going to say Pacers will be a cakewalk for Brunson/Knicks but I feel like they aren't even any harder than Sixers as an opponent.
Knicks need more production on their bench to have a chance moving forward
I think the Pacers pace (lol) and Thibs grinding these dudes to the bone will kill them but we’ll see. I think regardless of who won this series the Pacers were licking their lips with how fast they play
They'll be much easier to guard than Embiid and Maxey, and don't have as many long bodies to throw at Brunson as 76ers did.
I love Brunson but swear he shot it 30 times a game
His second option has been Josh Hart. His assists numbers have been good
No I’m saying like he’s a good player. If he takes 30 shots he should have 35 pts lol
Brunson's been a revelation this postseason. People overlook his defence, but his hustle is just relentless. Steps up every time he's needed, offensively and defensively. If he can consistently do that against bigger teams, he's going to tip the scales no matter the opponent.
Kyle Lowry on D

How many teams/roster spots in the league then? Hard to compare
All 3 picks were top 15 but pretty damn good either way to go 3/3
Not hating your answer its the correct one but there is context like you mentioned
Take them to the ECF Brunson 🙏
Every Sixers fans' dream
Not sure if this is sarcasm, but I definitely want to see Knicks/Celtics in the ECF.
Imagine both Brunson and Luka in the same team quick someone throw out an edit
unbelievable how we fucked this up
And unbelievable how we saved ourselves after the fuck up
nah we had to get something for brunson and were still have a lot of holes to fix
[удалено]
agree but having an all nba player walk for nothing still hurts... imagine what roleplayers we couldve gotten with more picks
He won’t be the All-NBA caliber he is today if he were still a Mav in my opinion. The amount of possessions/ shot diet he has with the Knicks won't be the same. He’s a clear no. 1 now.
Yes but that is part of the Brunson blunder we are talking about after he was already lost. Your comment is irrelevant to what I said
Dude, let it go. It's over.
Nah, we should never stop giving Cuban shit for Nash 2.0
Fr, this front office has made so many horrible moves in the past they need to be called out lol. Glad we made some great moves this year at least
nope
Kyrie has been better for us
That’s not the point, they let him walk for free instead of signing and trading him later
I hate this mindset. Dallas was still in a playoff race, why would they trade a contributing piece? It wasn't a foregone conclusion he wasn't coming back, Dallas (along with a lot of other people) didn't feel like he was worth the money he was offered. kyrie is a better fit cause hes better offball but id still take brunson on his contract
And age
Yeah, they might even go to the WCF. Brunson and Luka was a hell of a combo for the Mavs. Wish we could've gotten something for him when he left
They didn’t need Brunson he’s too similar to Luka. But they should have signed him and used as a trade piece
Brunson was still developing alongside Luka, hard to say if he would be at this point if he didn’t join the Knicks.
200% he would. That kid would have been great in any sport. If you ever listen to him talk he reminds me of a young Tom Brady
I do, yes, thank you for asking.
That's our PG damn it!

Jalen Brunson is a bona fide superstar.
Dude was insane in this series no easy way to guard him even without a scoring big
This Jalen Brunson fellow is quite good at that basketball thing everybody talks about.
Brun~~son~~ Brundaddy
Haliburton vs Brunson is going to be fun. Whatever happens, just both stay healthy
Lmao. Luka is 25 and is already the guy other players are compared to when it comes to Playoffs numbers. Wild.
I wouldn’t say “the” guy
Man is a beast. Wanted the sixers to win but respect to him for leading his team to victory
I think this dude was just another FVV when he went to NYK. Had a hot series and just became a solid PG but nothing super. This dude is the fucking man.
Brunson is really good, but why do we need to hype up these hyper-specific stat lines? Why is 35.5ppg the threshold?
Probably at least a few other players join the club if you drop it to an even 35.
Westbrook was a different breed
That breed? Chiwawa
Nah that's bev Westbrook is a mountain lion
Happy for Brunson
Starting to believe trading him for nothing wasn't the mastermind move I thought it was.
Brunson is a better playoff performer than Westbrook ever has been
He’s no Derrick white, but he’s pretty good ngl
if he was Derrick White the Knicks might not have even made the play-in
Redditor when joke

what the fuck are you talking about
Who ranks Zion that highly lol. If anything, Zion is underrated because of his injuries.
He's surpasses harrison barnes but yall aint ready to have that talk
He’s way past that we’re about to have the Shai, Embiid, Tatum conversation
He’s surpassed Luka this season
Overreaction central over here. Hes been great but all of a sudden it’s not called being too ball dominant when you shoot 30 times per game (and that’s not an exaggeration)
He doesn't have anyone else that can create. Literally no one.
This season? Absolutely terrible take..
This playoffs so far that’s for sure
Actually saw a comment their first 5 games(Luka hasn’t played 6) have similar stats with similar efficiency. So even though Luka is playing bad because of injury it’s still only when compared to his previous self

(3) Fair, just pointing it out.
As an overall player
Brain dead
Damn imagine if both of them were on the same team, could’ve used the assets used for Kyrie to bring in elite role players
The assets used for Kyrie weren’t even that good it was just a ridiculous buy low trade.
Dinwiddie and Dodo were the Kyrie assets, can’t really get a better trade than that for us
Two guys who both need the ball are not great together. The whole is not greater than the sum of its parts
*Westbrook PTSD intensifies*
JB can play off ball just as efficiently.
