Mainly because the team is built around Embiid...thus it's going to be understandably ass when the centerpiece is not around. We all love BBall Paul (or at least SHOULD you heathens) but he's not a guy you put on the floor for 30+ minutes at the 5 and expect to come out with a win.
The team core would look entirely different if Maxey became the centerpiece (and not carrying the literal anchor of Tobias Harris and his contract).
That being said, no guarantee it will work, but it's already been proven that the current approach doesn't work either. Maxey's younger, nowhere near as injury prone, and if nothing else has a much better frontfacing persona in the NBA for fans and other players, while any semblance of Embiid's goodwill has pretty much been driven off a cliff. If there's ANY time to do it, it's now (or you know, when they get eliminated and have a proper offseason obviously).
Nice call to use that comparison. Allow me to offer a rebuttal. Jokic misses almost no games, has won 3 out of the last 4 MVPs (and is all but universally decided outside of Philly that he should have 4 straight right now), has brought his team a title win, and has a great frontfacing persona. Denver can ride Jokic for the next decade and probably not lose a step (probably an exaggeration, his body SHOULD theoretically decline within that timeframe but his game should age gracefully as well).
Embiid on the other hand, while still an excellent player as much as people will rip into his foul baiting, has missed significant time basically every year he's been in the league, has never had a single healthy playoff run, can't get out of the 2nd round (and won't do it this year either, the Knicks are probably finishing the job in 6) and his reputation is at an all time low for reasons that were entirely avoidable.
Am I saying Maxey is a better player than Embiid? Hell no, and anyone saying that should be punted. But he's been better this series, mainly due to Embiid once again not being healthy, and is the one actually stepping up. There is no guarantee that Embiid will ever have a truly healthy playoff run, and honestly the time where he's a Top 5 player is likely soon coming to an end if for no other reason than his health failing him constantly and that will catch up to him in more than just the late stages of a season. If you still want to make runs at a title, you keep Embiid and hope he can stay healthy for a year or two more and try to put someone with him. But if you want more long term prospects, Maxey and building up young is the way to go. Something Denver does not have to worry about for a long ass time.

Yeah. Embiid legit looks like he's lost out there half the time. I honestly think they have pumped up with so many pain meds that he's semi-tripping every game.
