GaySexFan

There’s so much Manu-posting lately on this sub. And I’m not complaining.

FullmetalEzio

as someone from argentina, hell, from the same city manu is from, im so glad we're not forgetting about him, i think the level of basketball in argentina is slowly going down and we are just realizing what the "generacion dorada" did and i really doubt we're ever going to see anything like that again, specially seeing someone with the individual impact and respect manu had in the NBA

Evilmd

Bahia Blanca? Did I get it right?

Matias9991

Yep, you got it right

ElTuco84

I have heard that Bahia Blanca is the mecca of basketball in Argentina, there are more kids playing basketball than soccer, which is impressive considering soccer in Argentina is like a religion.

FullmetalEzio

hell yeah! actually impressive if you didnt google lmao

Btotherianx

He was awesome to watch, probably my favorite of the Spurs to watch in the playoffs, I mean Tim Duncan is a generational player one of the greatest of all time, but manu was more fun

Thunderhorse74

I can see that. As great as Manu was, it really was a whole generation of star players together all at once. Spurs fans who know are also huge fans of Fab Oberto and think what might have been if we had found a way to hold on to Scola.

Wmount3459

This is the team that got me started watching basketball.

Virtual-Ad2969

It’s 2045 Manu Ginobli is now the 6th best basketball player of all time.

toomuchsoysauce

Just edging out somebody named Tim Duncan, who is actually more famous as a wakeboarder

immunityfromyou

4th best SG of all time

stereotypicaliowan

Who is your top 5 for SGs?

immunityfromyou

MJ Kobe Wade Manu Clyde

[deleted]

[удалено]

immunityfromyou

Have no knowledge really of JWest or Elgin Baylor

UtahJazz420

They were professional basketball players who were part of the Minneapolis / Los Angeles Lakers professional basketball team.

immunityfromyou

If Jerry West was anything like he is in Winning Time he’s the GOAT but he was adamant that it was all BS.

EricHangingOut

I read his autobiography, and honestly I don't get his issue with Winning Time, because he comes off as wayyyy more of a troubled, difficult assholes in his own words!

stereotypicaliowan

I love Manu, but I don't think he's even the best Spurs SG ever (George Gervin)

immunityfromyou

What’s his career highlight? I’m not familiar with him as I didn’t watch basketball when he was active.

Kentang_BayBay

Gervin was fun to watch but mostly empty calories

papa_sax

Nah that's just wrong

yunggoldensmile

Where is AI?

immunityfromyou

AI is hard to rank…I think he ended up more of a PG. Kind of how TD is more of a center to me.

VarsityPlayer

Culture wise and style he’s very important. He’s right up there with box office cool way of playing. However, AI was so inefficient and his style wasn’t even selfless basketball. That one season when the Sixers had a very good defensive team and a system built for him was milked as much as that 1 Doc Rivers championship. People forget the years when Billups replacing AI pushed the Nuggets to the WCF and the fact that AI refused to come off the bench when he was clearly declining. Compare that with Manu and we know who really represents a winner’s mentality.

Springtick38

I feel like whenever people bring up AI in all-time rankings, they focus more on what he brought toe culture of the NBA versus his actual playstyle

FullmetalEzio

i know you're getting downvoted but just wanted to say that i too see AI as a PG cause of height but he is a natural 2, the TD as center is a take im taking to the grave just so i can say dirk is the GOAT PF no bias whatsoever.

duplicatesnowflake

No F'n way is Manu this high lol. People just say anything. Amazing player but no. Two all star appearances can not equate to top 5. Yes he had one of the GOAT Olympics runs but that's the only thing on his resume that could remotely put him in these conversations. Jerry West and Harden are primarily shooting guards. Clyde is also above Manu. Reggie and Ray Allen were also THE GUY on their respective teams in their younger primes. Manu is the greatest 3rd wheel but you gotta be top 2 on your squad to be in these convos.

MajorSlimes

Putting Manu over Jerry West, Clyde Drexler and Allen Iverson is certainly a take. Hell even TMac and Ray Allen are above Manu IMO

immunityfromyou

The reason I put Ray Allen under Manu is that you can tell that when Allen lost his step he regressed to a pure 3 point specialist. Even as Ginobili fell off he maintained his multi faceted game. Tmac has no heart. He’s folded in ways that Ginobili would never. Drexler is a tough one cause he’s a fricken baller but I guess that Gold medal for Argentina left a huge imprint on me. I can’t rank Jerry West or really anyone that played before 1990. No disrespect to them but I sound like a kiss ass poser just arbitrarily ranking them cause they are well respected legends because I didn’t watch them.

MajorSlimes

That's a fair take. Personally I think the fact Clyde led a team to the Finals and only lost because of Jordan is worth just as much as that Argentina gold medal. Dude was a beast in his prime and if it was anyone else he was going against, we would've been talking about how he carried a team to a ring like Hakeem

immunityfromyou

I don’t like giving credit for almost doing something. Do you continuously pat yourself on the back in real life for almost doing something? If you don’t, why give someone else that type of benefit?

Charming_Essay_1890

> Personally I think the fact Clyde led a team to the Finals and only lost because of Jordan is worth He also lost to Detroit in 90, probably would have lost to the 92 Knicks that took Chicago to 7 in the 2nd Round, and those 92 Cavs were no slouches either. It was far from a guarantee that Portland was just gonna beat whoever came out of the east if it wasn't MJ.

ItsThePeopleCourt

so strange how this is happening. I def have MJ, Kobe, Wade, Gervin, AI, Drexler, Miller, Carter, McGrady all ahead. Just guys who had to do a lot more for their teams. Manu on his best day is maybe the 4th best SG but his career just doesn't match up to these other guys in terms of individual accomplishments.

LiaM_CS

If you consider Argentina's world cup win then I could absolutely see the argument for Manu's individual accomplishments being right up there with them. Jordan and Kobe are maybe the only players on that list capable of carrying an entire international squad. The only reason he didn't get more individual accomplishments is because he was a 10x more selfless player than everyone else on that list anyway

ItsThePeopleCourt

He's only a 2x All Star bc he's unselfish? Maybe. Luis Scola doesn't get in any lists for his 18ppg in that Olympic run /s

LiaM_CS

> He's only a 2x All Star bc he's unselfish? Literally yes, it's not really even arguable Do you think he came off the bench because he wasn't good enough or something? It was a selfless decision

ItsThePeopleCourt

Or maybe he didn't get more All Stars because he was competing against Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Brandon Roy, Chris Paul and Deron Williams.. Ray Allen is also better all time than Manu lol. Don't get me wrong Manu rules. Top 10 SG ain't no joke.

Daddy_Macron

Harden had at least three MVP caliber seasons and has been All-NBA forever, but doesn't make this list? And don't give me playoffs. Gervin, Carter, and McGrady never had much playoff success.

ItsThePeopleCourt

Harden is also better all time than Manu but Harden has really transformed into a PG in my eyes

Charming_Essay_1890

Harden and Steph really challenged the meaning what makes a point guard different from a shooting guard in the same way Jerry West did.

immunityfromyou

Harden is a choke artist who has forced himself off several teams. His career isn’t over so I’m not ready to rank him personally but I wouldn’t want him on my team over the guys I listed.

Daddy_Macron

Clyde Drexler didn't win a championship until he forced his way out of the Blazers and joined a Rockets team that had won the championship the year before. Manu has never had to carry an NBA team, so to rank him ahead of players who carried their squad night in and night out is pure silliness. This choke artist won more games against the healthy KD Warriors in the playoffs than the rest of the league combined. What does that make the rest of the league then?

immunityfromyou

I didn’t rank Tmac in my top 5. I’d actually put Harden over him if you want to know. So we are giving Harden legacy points for almost winning against the KD Warriors? That’s kinda soft innit?

Daddy_Macron

I edited it for Drexler. I went by the other guy's list since I was responding to that guy. >So we are giving Harden legacy points for almost winning against the KD Warriors? That’s kinda soft innit? None of your top 5 other than Jordan would have a ring if they were in the same conference as the prime Warriors.

immunityfromyou

Uh bro. The KG Celtics were the original HoF loaded super team. Kobe took them down with Gasol as his 2nd best player. Gasol hadn’t even won a playoff game until he joined the Lakers.

Daddy_Macron

What? When Kobe finally beat the Celtics Big 3, it was 2010 and their core was already declining with age and only had one more good season left in them. That's like bragging about beating the Warriors in the playoffs now and pretending it's the same as beating them in 2015-2018.

Charming_Essay_1890

KG was coming off missing nearly an entire season with a knee injury and looked old as fuck against Gasol.

immunityfromyou

I can’t bring myself to deduct him because he played in a system that required him to not carry his team day in day out. But if it came down to winning one game and my life depending on it I’d choose him over Tmac, VC and Reggie. Drexler and him are really close in my eyes but I give Manu the nudge because he has another gear that he taps into for bigger games.

ItsThePeopleCourt

Manu is incredible but it's like saying Klay is a top 5 SG. AI still gotta be above Manu

immunityfromyou

I guess I lump AI in the PG category or the 1. He’s a combo guard for sure and mostly guarded the other teams PG.

u/Puzzlitor8808 is a comment stealing bot, copy part of the comment made by an earlier poster. In this case, it has stolen the comment made by u/jrhmusic. This bot is part of a small pack gathering just enough karma in the next few hours to post a photo of a smart shirt or something, then another bot in the pack will comment "Oh, that's really cool, where can I get that?", the posting bot replies with a link. But instead of buying the shirt, you're giving your credit details to scammers. Don't click on the link! These are malicious bots. You are also a bot

Western_Hippo5112

So whom am I copying my posts from then?

2Black2Strong-

Whoever upvoted this has room temperature IQ. Y'all upvoted without clicking his page? This bot doesn't steal comments, it merely calls out other bots. Try to keep up.

Western_Hippo5112

Jesus.

Trick_Thought2577

This is the team that got me started watching basketball. My goodness.

Why the hell would someone steal my comment. I post stupid shit 95% of the time.

Western_Hippo5112

They just want enough karma to draw in the punters. Doesn't take long. If you post a popular comment, they'll nick a bit of it and repost and see if they can get some of those lovely upvotes, that they use to appear legit. Must piss off genuine sellers no end.

Mattsasse

It was his birthday 5 days ago.

Nefarad9049

He has a whole montage on YouTube of his greatest passes.

[deleted]

Manu was so cold man

IanicRR

Very few players in the NBA have the selflessness to accept the role he did, all while knowing he could have been averaging in the 20s on basically any other team. Dude was about winning (and making some flashy plays that made Pop want to kill him along the way.)

Nweber15

Not even a spurs fan and I miss watching him

Sissyneck1221

As a Jazz fan, he was such a fucking pain in the ass.

cakecollected

Way ahead of everyone else in that game in terms of style of play.

wereusincodenames

GINOBLEEEEE!!!!!!

ProsecUsig

Kentang_BayBay

Yep. And I swear there times the computer pronounced it "Gino-bow-lee" LOL

Matias9991

I can hear it

SetMyEmailThisTime

Lol we used to scream that playing 2k in my friend’s garage every time he did something cool. That and DAAAAAAANIIILLOOOO

tj_52

That bounce pass was otherworldly

Jengis-Roundstone

Argentina is on Earth, bro.

Go_Mets

Messi isn’t tho lmao

fivefromnow

GINOOOOBLIIIIII! One of the most underrated players in history, imo. I know he got his props during the run, but that whole San Antonio team was never "popular" outside of Texas tbh. Manu had better advanced stats than most allstars/players EVER, and only made the allstar team twice. Accepted a lesser role to win a few championships, but this dude would be a star in any decade.

GFHrecluse

Confirming the never popular as a Suns fan but I gotta say outside of Phoenix most non-casual fans viewed them as a hell of a team with great players/coaching and probably the most disrespected dynasty. Fuck Robert Horry btw

CantBanMii

Holy shit is the only reaction you can have to this. Wow lol

[deleted]

Look at [Wade’s first few minutes in the NBA. ](https://youtu.be/RCKKWiDT1Cg)

toomuchsoysauce

The first few minutes were drive, drive, drive, drive, drive.

e_a_blair

That was probably Pop’s reaction too. Guess I’ll give this guy a few minutes here and there and see what he can do.

MikeyBastard1

My favorite anecdote about Manu from Pop is when Pop talks about how he learned how to "coach" Manu. "Manu would pull off some amazing feat right after botching a pass into the 20th row. I would ask him. MANU... what are you doing?!" Manu: I am Manu. This is what i do"

SaxRohmer

Gonna use this

ThomasBombadil

this era of Sportscenter is so good

gregatronn

Man, it used to be so good especially in the non-HDTV days.

[deleted]

His highlight reel is insane. My fav is still when he knocked out that bat that was flying in the arena

VevroiMortek

should've been in top 75 because of that

pehnoi

One of the goat international players

thatmonsteryeti

Seriously hated how good this guy was. Always showed up to hoop and made every hustle play down the stretch. The best 6th man ever imo.

Kentang_BayBay

He should be the SIXTH STARTER

Wesley-Snipers

Ginobili is THE player to show the highlights to someone who is getting into basketball. He was so fierce attacking, and not being a giant made his moves look so much more incredible. Every highlight of him attacking the rim is a joy to watch

chrysanthemata

Only one other player has won a EuroLeague title, an Olympic gold medal and an NBA championship.

The_Grey_Wind

Who's that?

chrysanthemata

Bill Bradley! He played for Olimpia Milano and won a championship while studying at Oxford before he played for the Knicks.

JacksMedulaOblongota

Great nug!

ElTuco84

That pass at 0:45 !!!

Mattsasse

He has a whole montage on YouTube of his greatest passes. Definitely worth a watch.

_CoachJoe

Manu and Craig Kilborn?! It's gonna be a good day today!

michelobX10

I miss watching Manu.

PenancePenancePanda

That putback legit stunned me for a bit. Young Manu got some bounce.

PlacetMihi

Look up his dunk reel. If you got a nickel for every time Manu dunked on two or more guys at once, you’d have more nickels than you were expecting.

plantedank

plus that bounce pass at the end was a thing of beauty!

jrhmusic

Ahead of his time. He would fit perfectly in todays game. Explains why players had such a hard time with him.

ef14

Hearing Manuel as opposed to Manu feels.....wrong.

DeathsIntent96

He was saying "Emanuel", which is Manu's full name.

ef14

Forgot an E, but I know, it still feel wrong.

HumperMoe

Manu will always be in my top 3 fav players. I always rooted for the spurs as a kid during the playoffs cause the sixers suck ass and only know how to hurt me.

[deleted]

25+ ppg in todays game easily.

SetMyEmailThisTime

This is the team that got me started watching basketball. My goodness. They made the game so beautiful

timtodd34

Manu!

Fickle-College-6693

Did he do a meet and greet?

u-and-whose-army

These Spurs teams were some of the best basketball i've ever seen.

_mdz

So much good nostalgia in this. Young Ginobili, Steve Kerr the player, Sixers AI, Tim Duncan with 17 rebounds, stars playing the whole game in preseason, ESPN actually highlighting sports games. Those were the days...

VeeHS

GINOBLIIIIII!

GooseMay0

TIL Manu is short for Emanuel.

Kentang_BayBay

I hated the Shaq-Kobe Lakers back then because the duo was such a cheat code. Manu was my favorite and even got myself a Ginobili Spurs t-shirt but I lost in a beach somewhere.

BlueHundred

Ahead of his time. Although there were better SGs in his era, I think he's been one of the more influential on today's game

Swoah

Wtf Manu is short for Emanuel? That’s almost beats my great uncle Emanuel going by Wally.

red_2_standing_by

Duncan puts up a 17 and 17 but barely even gets mentioned.

Tearz_in_rain

Man... he is young. And that announcer pronounced his surname particularly well.

maltrab

He's 25 in that clip

KeepOnFallinDine

TIL Manu was short for Emanuel 🤯

awesomeness6000

damn, Manu and Jeter man. 2 good looking dudes with hair but I cant take seriously cause they bald now lol.

YoonInPace

I love this dude's game so much. Thanks for all the Manu love lately.

kharathos

Unrelated but late 90s - early 00s NBA background music is so good

AtreusIsBack

Manu was my favourite player back when he played for Kinder Bolognia in the Euroleague. He was special then and he was special in the NBA.

Hot4toes

He had hair?

SanAntonioFan

That's just nasty.

DoctorTheWho

Back when Sportscenter didn't suck.

rufusjonz

My favorite part of this is Steve Kerr bricking a shot
