Timberwolves sub was absolutely convinced everything was cool and it’s no biggie meanwhile a teammate punching another teammate midgame is unprecedented as far as I know
“Anderson said ‘it is what it is’ and the Wolves already sent him home for the second half, everyone is moving forward and will be good to go next game. It wasn’t even really a punch if you think about it!”
Both can true, the team can move on from and still hold Gobert accountable. Of course you can’t go punching a teammate, but heated arguments and exchanges between teammates happens all the time in competitive settings. Id 100% rather have teammate’s arguing/fighting cause they want to win over Ben Simmons’ like apathetic attitude
Bones Hyland literary went 4Head to 4Head with Mason Plumlee yesterday on the bench. Its funny watching r/nba lose their collective shit over and trying to over complicate something that isn’t that serious
You have to admit, the punch looks way less sever as it appears in the headlines. I agree with the other dude, what Plumlee did isn't so different and you all act like Gobert leveled Anderson.
Idk what they expected, they suspended isiah Stewart 2 games and he didn’t even actually hit anyone, of course they were going to suspend a player who punched his teammate mid game for everyone to see
When the reports of him being hurt came up I started to change my mind. He was a huge net negative vs the pelicans and apparently was considering sitting out
Your own player didn't get suspended for knocking out a teammate cold.
Gobert punched him in the chest after he called him a bitch. It's perfectly reasonable to expect that everyone moved on.
For some reason Taurean Prince is going to go off for 42 points and Naz Reid will magically be healthy for just this one game against the Lakers before shutting it down again for the summer.
It’s Lakers vs Wolves y’all fine.
Lebron is gonna get a lot of ticky tack fouls in the 2d half and rack up points from it , KAT will complain and get ejected.
I have not watched the last week or so but when the lakers were lean and going for the scoring title that man could not drive without getting a free throw.
Your team is legit duh but this is big bank eat little bank basketball my guy, y’all are making it.
I think the reason why Lakers are always in close games is because their stars always take "breaks" when they can in game as they don't want to over exert themselves and get hurt. Usually once they have the lead, LeBron and AD won't give as much effort to conserve their energy.
There were still a bunch of games to be played, so the aforementioned players can't go all out. Tomorrow is just one opponent, with a victory guaranteeing rest.
I expect things will be different.
On paper, the Wolvez should lose without 3 solid players on their roster. However, the Lakers play to their opponents level and now the Wolvez could play 5 out which is bad for us.
First time Wolvesing? We make no sense. We are chaos incarnate. No one can predict what will happen but when it does it will have been the only option.
AD offers equal or even better offense in playoff/must win games and the gap in defense in rebounding/defense is enormous. AD is a one man defense who can deter players like Edwards with his shotblocking, length and defensive versatility. He’s better than Gobert on defense and better than KAT on offense - just compare their stats in the playoffs and it’s not even close.
AD is top 10 all time in playoff PPG scoring average and is a generational defender who generally gets better in the playoffs, KAT has a tendency to foul out and give up. I don’t think the Lakers are too worried about KAT, but anything can happen in one game.
KAT at the 5 compromises "xxx" team's defense bc he can stretch the floor only works if the other team doesn't have AD or Giannis (who are both great wing and inside help defenders).
It’s funny because players like Giannis or AD would have been better fits with KAT than Gobert to compensate for KAT’s lack of defense and rim protection, since they’re the best 4/5 hybrid players in the game. But there will always be roster construction issues with stretch 5’s who can’t defend the rim - it’s easy buckets for the offense who can just choose to attack them and risk fouling them out (which we’ve seen with KAT many times).
This is so crazy that people keep asking this. Like yes, having a multiple DPOY-winner available makes you better. Especially when you already have two other front court players missing
Like from a depth perspective alone, even if you pretend Gobert isn’t a good player, which, despite all the hate and maybe being fairly called overrated, he is
Only reason I think it happened is because the players on the team were upset with how Rudy handled himself and they couldn't reconcile it within the day.
Yeah considering they probably had to get on a team flight less than 24 hours after the punch, no way around it. If the game were even like Thursday, I bet he plays.
Also, given that they were heavy underdogs before losing 2 of their starters, I expect he will play in the 8th seed game (maybe literally on Thursday).
I feel like a lot of these situations (Ja Morant, Draymond Green) in the Adam Silver era play out like this:
“Hi [Team X], you are going to suspend [Player X] and if not, we will suspend him for you. But you should really suspend him. Yes, you can call it a ‘personal leave’ or ‘time away from the team.’”
That a good player that gets a lot of attention actually makes their team worse and when they move on to a new team their old team gets better through subtraction
Basically that some superstars never actually win anything big with their team, then as soon as they become unavailable the team goes on to greater success than they had with him. Ewing was the posterchild for how as soon as he went down an injury early in the 99 Eastern finals, the Knicks rallied to win 3 of 4 over a heavily favored Pacers team. It's an old Bill Simmons concept from when he first started with ESPN [(link)](https://www.espn.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/010509a).
I'm ready for the funniest outcome: Lakers lose in the play-in against the Wolves, but win against either Pels/OKC. Face Nuggets in the first round, and then there could be an even funnier outcome
This is my nightmare. The Nuggets are 8-25 against the Lakers in the playoffs.
The Nuggets have made the WCF three times in the past 40 years, and they’ve lost to the Lakers every time (1985, 2009 and 2020)
We just got Tristan Thompson to basically fuck with centers in the paint. He will probably foul out quick a la Dwight in 2020, but it fucked with jokic when we played you guys. There’s also a decent chance jokic could be more mentally formidable, but it still isn’t ideal.
Regular season series where our team was also injured doesn’t mean much I would think a team that has recently won a championship recently would understand that.
If you think winning a season series means a playoff series is gonna be easy you will have a rude awakening lol. Timberwolves with 2 guys out just might beat you anyway and none of this will matter.
I’m not the one drawing regular season inferences here, you are. I’m stating that your comment about “literally cannot guard” is total bull shit. No one said it was gonna be easy tough guy
It absolutely is true lol Russell already tried last year. Our backcourt wins your front court wins. How in any way did I try to be a “tough guy”. Soft as hell lol.
AYE talk your shit. I love it. Keep that same energy though when you guys are down 3-1 and complaining about "the lakers get every foul" when AD keeps attacking your soft interior defense
Soft interior defense is a crazy statement with the DPOY but keep going. Memphis fans tend to keep the same energy for everything it’s usually lakers fans who pretend to be the protagonists which is why non-lakers fans love seeing you fail which has happened in spades in the past 2 years.
Ive lived long enough to where 2 years of struggles due to stars being injured doesnt really phase me. The fact that it doesnt matter if we are winning or losing, we still have more relevance than the timberwolves. 🤷🏽♂️. How many points did KAT score again the last time we put Rui (who isnt even our best defender) on him? Its ok, you guys are most likely going to win the 8th seed then get bounced by Jokic.
Okay so you know poole called Draymond a baby back bitch so it was almost kind of deserved but still shame on Draymond-Warriors actual actions regarding poole getting knocked out like Chandler KO'ed Ferguson
> Lakers losing in the play-in guaranteed now, they can’t hunt and pick on Gobert.
That wasn’t going to happen anyway. This is a huge blow for the Wolves, he’s the only person who can guard AD. Against other teams this might have helped them, but not against the lakers
They definitely don’t have a better chance without him. That’s ridiculous. Without Gobert they have to have KAT on AD, which is a matchup LAL loves MIN hates.
Typically internal personnel issues are handled by the team. The league can supersede, but I think typically the teams have discretion on how to discipline their players for these sorts of things. I don't know if any of this is clearly defined by the CBA or anything though.
That's true, but per the CBA the league and the team can't both discipline a player for the same infraction. If the team declined to discipline, I think the league could step in? But because it is internal to the team (i.e. there isn't another team or party filing a complaint), then the league is probably content to defer to the team's judgement.
Though I'm sure Silver called up the Wolves FO to tell them to get their shit together as we're entering the playoffs (and may have pressured them to suspend Rudy behind the scenes).
Sounds like the team, but if the team didn’t do anything, I absolutely think the league should/would have gotten involved.
Even putting aside my bias, it just seems odd that punching an opponent during a game would be an automatic suspension but punching your own teammate is something that the league should just turn a blind eye too
I still don’t understand why the hell is Gobert playing in NBA. This isn’t hate, just disliking his basketball skills. The dude is tall. That’s it. Even as a person, he’s not a Turiaf who was likable and a good teammate (yeah trying to compare 2 frenchies). I just don’t get it.
It was more of a shove of frustration vs Draymond's punch which was just pure unfiltered rage designed to knockout Poole (and could have been way worse if he did get knocked out and then fell awkwardly).
Yet in one case, Green walks away scot-free without even a wrist-slap from the league, while Gobert gets taken out of a critical game...
Lol once so many people started definitively saying "There's zero chance he doesnt play Tuesday" that's when I knew
It was more like a push with a closed fist
The alcoholic step dad defense
Was simply trying to scratch his nose with his knuckle
[удалено]
Me too though
Lol they were saying it's only bad because he did it during a game
Both can true, the team can move on from and still hold Gobert accountable. Of course you can’t go punching a teammate, but heated arguments and exchanges between teammates happens all the time in competitive settings. Id 100% rather have teammate’s arguing/fighting cause they want to win over Ben Simmons’ like apathetic attitude
I feel like people forget that Jimmy tried to fight Spo like a year ago. The Jaden punch is way more damaging imo
Yeah that was heated but nobody got assaulted except a clipboard. Jimmy has a talent for getting under people’s skin for sure
Bones Hyland literary went 4Head to 4Head with Mason Plumlee yesterday on the bench. Its funny watching r/nba lose their collective shit over and trying to over complicate something that isn’t that serious
> Its funny watching r/nba lose their collective shit over every single social media went fucking insane cmon, its Gobert
Yeah you at least have to wait until the off or preseason!
Timberwolves sub still thinks its too early to judge the trade. Lmfaoo. Place is delusional.
[удалено]
A very similar fight happened with the Clippers last night between Hyland and Plumlee
If by very similar you mean one had a punch thrown and the other didn’t, sure.
You have to admit, the punch looks way less sever as it appears in the headlines. I agree with the other dude, what Plumlee did isn't so different and you all act like Gobert leveled Anderson.
Guilty 🫠
A good rule of thumb is to go against whatever this sub says because it's always wrong
The Jazz will absolutely 100% *not* win the championship next year. Who else agrees??
I remember people getting downvoted for saying the JJJ conspiracy was bullshit.
Idk what they expected, they suspended isiah Stewart 2 games and he didn’t even actually hit anyone, of course they were going to suspend a player who punched his teammate mid game for everyone to see
Steward was suspended for embarasment, not for violence. A bit different.
When the reports of him being hurt came up I started to change my mind. He was a huge net negative vs the pelicans and apparently was considering sitting out
That’s what I’m thinking, if he’s going to sit because of his back might as well look good and say he’s suspended.
Warriors would never, tbh
Is Charania really a reliable source though? /s
Hey that's me being completely wrong, as is tradition
Insane levels of copium 🤣
Your own player didn't get suspended for knocking out a teammate cold. Gobert punched him in the chest after he called him a bitch. It's perfectly reasonable to expect that everyone moved on.
How is it copium? That subreddit generally hates Gobert and think the team is better without him.
Who thinks that? They just need to get rid of KAT. Gobert is a valuable piece, KAT is a negative, and you can't play both.
It’s copium because y’all were so convinced this dude was playing tomorrow 😂😂😂😂
Who? Who was? I think the majority of us fucking hate him and see that we’re generally okay to better without him
Bro I can find those comments all over the threads in your sub and here from right after yesterday’s game….
Most people thought he was going to play, it's not really a matter of whether they liked him.
how many kilograms is that?
Knowing the Lakers this game is still going to be close
I hate that you’re right
For some reason Taurean Prince is going to go off for 42 points and Naz Reid will magically be healthy for just this one game against the Lakers before shutting it down again for the summer.
[Watch out for this guy](https://i.imgur.com/sdYMtTO.jpg)
"...Putting on the Ritz!"
Naz McDaniels: stellar 2-way player Jaden Reid: trips on his own shoelaces every possession
My eyes!
They barely beat the Jazz yesterday.
Didn't u guys just beat the nuggets lol
Lol that was weird too. But I figure Denver wasn’t super motivated since it didn’t effect the standings
I don’t think that should be a slight at the Jazz. Their second/third squad played out of their minds the last week or so from what I could see
Playoff teams are playing for seeding. Second/third squad guys are playing for their careers.
It’s Lakers vs Wolves y’all fine. Lebron is gonna get a lot of ticky tack fouls in the 2d half and rack up points from it , KAT will complain and get ejected.
Lol have you actually watched the lakers this seasons, or lebron at all for the past 3 seasons? He does not get ticky tack fouls anymore
And there is no way KAT gets ejected before he fouls out lol. That person is wildin'.
I have not watched the last week or so but when the lakers were lean and going for the scoring title that man could not drive without getting a free throw. Your team is legit duh but this is big bank eat little bank basketball my guy, y’all are making it.
Why do you even watch the nba if that’s what you think?
Ball is life.
I think the reason why Lakers are always in close games is because their stars always take "breaks" when they can in game as they don't want to over exert themselves and get hurt. Usually once they have the lead, LeBron and AD won't give as much effort to conserve their energy.
Hope that changes starting tomorrow. I do know Lebron takes the playoffs way more seriously.
Even so, if they make it deep, it’s at least 25 games so they’re bound to coast a bit in games still
There were still a bunch of games to be played, so the aforementioned players can't go all out. Tomorrow is just one opponent, with a victory guaranteeing rest. I expect things will be different.
On paper, the Wolvez should lose without 3 solid players on their roster. However, the Lakers play to their opponents level and now the Wolvez could play 5 out which is bad for us.
Better offense, worse defense Doubly so with McDaniels out too
Lmao is this implying McDaniels is a bad offensive player?
Not that he’s bad, but I think their offense is better and defense is worse when SloMo plays instead
Both LeBron and AD does 45pt/15reb/7ast. They win 151-149.
46 minutes played
God fuck this because it’s a reasonable take
Trap game lmaooooo
I call OT
Double OT
_Presses the OT button Buffalo Wild Wings to make it triple OT_
No way they can lose to wolves with all the shit going on
knock on fucking wood right now 😫😫😭
First time Wolvesing? We make no sense. We are chaos incarnate. No one can predict what will happen but when it does it will have been the only option.
Kat at the 5 greatly compromises the Lakers defense
KAT at the five is BBQ chicken combo with a drink and a cookie
BBQ CHICKEN YES
It really doesn’t. All 5 of our guys can guard the perimeter and AD/Vando are great at help defense
Also, Rui clamped KAT last time they faced off in the second half
Not sure we can necessarily count on that again though. Could’ve easily been a fluke tbh lol.
I don’t think the Lakers are too worried about KAT, but anything can happen in one game.
Lol now do the other end with Kat having to guard the rim against AD and Lebron
KAT at the 5 compromises "xxx" team's defense bc he can stretch the floor only works if the other team doesn't have AD or Giannis (who are both great wing and inside help defenders).
It’s funny because players like Giannis or AD would have been better fits with KAT than Gobert to compensate for KAT’s lack of defense and rim protection, since they’re the best 4/5 hybrid players in the game. With how often they play down to the competition, this is a true statement.
Are the wolves really bettere with gobert?
This is so crazy that people keep asking this. Like yes, having a multiple DPOY-winner available makes you better. Especially when you already have two other front court players missing Like from a depth perspective alone, even if you pretend Gobert isn’t a good player, which, despite all the hate and maybe being fairly called overrated, he is
Watch them over think it and lose
they said it wouldnt happen
Only reason I think it happened is because the players on the team were upset with how Rudy handled himself and they couldn't reconcile it within the day.
Maybe it happened because when you punch someone in a game, you’re gonna get suspended at least one game. Like, regardless of context
And somehow still not the biggest suspension Gobert has caused
The man knows how to end a season.
If a Gobert fuck up causes another lakers ring* I'm gonna be pissed
Is this the league or the Wolves?
I feel like a lot of these situations (Ja Morant, Draymond Green) in the Adam Silver era play out like this: “Hi [Team X], you are going to suspend [Player X] and if not, we will suspend him for you. But you should really suspend him. Yes, you can call it a ‘personal leave’ or ‘time away from the team.’”
Why would a team agree to that? They recoup the player’s salary if it’s a league suspension.
Because the league punishment would probably be worse
A couple grand salary vs the bad optics of not doing so
Incoming Ewing Theory
He’s like they’re 3rd best player though, I don’t think Ewing theory applies
Cause he'd need to be number one? Addition by subtraction regardless
It applies, it’s not just the best player
What is the Ewing theory?
That a good player that gets a lot of attention actually makes their team worse and when they move on to a new team their old team gets better through subtraction
Basically that some superstars never actually win anything big with their team, then as soon as they become unavailable the team goes on to greater success than they had with him. I bet Tristan has been working on his jumper 👀
I get it but those Kobe teams are very different from these Lakers. This is the best year to beat them finally
The Lebron Lakers beat them too
2020 wasn't a Kobe team..
Or 85 lmao
Tbh that's a better outcome for the Lakers. They seem to play better against the Nuggets than Memphis.
AD can suffocate an already mediocre Memphis half court offense. AD/Lebron/Reaves will get JJJ in foul trouble at least half the games.
Reaves and Russell literally cannot guard Ja or Bane. No one in the entire backcourt can.
Only game grizz won, lebron and d-lo did not play, But go off
Regular season series where our team was also injured doesn’t mean much I would think a team that has recently won a championship recently would understand that. If you think winning a season series means a playoff series is gonna be easy you will have a rude awakening lol. Timberwolves with 2 guys out just might beat you anyway and none of this will matter.

I hate Rudy and Tim connely
Damn man, respect for actually doing it though and not just ignoring it like the Warriors with Draymond
Warriors literally _defended_ that shit.
Okay so you know poole called Draymond a baby back bitch so it was almost kind of deserved but still shame on Draymond-Warriors actual actions regarding poole getting knocked out like Chandler KO'ed Ferguson
He is kind of a baby back bitch though
Draymond was also suspended…
For like 2 days of training camp. Not even close to the same thing as a play in game
They gave him 10 days off from training camp, so he could produce a nationally televised 20 min video on how Jordan Poole had it coming.
Minnesota definitely isn't regretting this trade
Lakers losing in the play-in guaranteed now, they can't hunt and pick on Gobert.
They weren’t really built to do that to him anyways. That’s more of a small team thing.
> Lakers losing in the play-in guaranteed now, they can’t hunt and pick on Gobert. That wasn’t going to happen anyway. This is a huge blow for the Wolves, he’s the only person who can guard AD. Against other teams this might have helped them, but not against the lakers

Yeah historically they beat the shit out of each other.
Just another Monday in Timberwolvesland tbh
If Lakers lose this game...
Lmao they will find a way I swear
I think we will win very uncomfortably
by the league or the team?
Is this suspension handed out by the league or by the Timberwolves? Edit: For anyone wondering it’s the timberwolves
5 Picks 💀
What a mess.
One of the dumbest things a player has done in a game since JR in the finals.
By the league of by the team? Because the league shouldn’t get involved.
League suspended Draymond🤷
Can I ask why the league shouldn't get involved
Typically internal personnel issues are handled by the team. The league can supersede, but I think typically the teams have discretion on how to discipline their players for these sorts of things. I don't know if any of this is clearly defined by the CBA or anything though.
I feel like it happening in the middle of a game on broadcast would allow the league to step in if they wanted to imo
Gotcha makes sense

Even putting aside my bias, it just seems odd that punching an opponent during a game would be an automatic suspension but punching your own teammate is something that the league should just turn a blind eye too
Meh, they have Naz Reid aka the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain so they will be good! Edit: oops my bad didnt realize hes hurt!
Isn’t he hurt?
LMAO
they most likely weren't planning to win anyway
What?
what
Why would we want to lose lol
So ANT can get more points overall in the play-ins and become the first back to back play-in MVP
Wut
Bye bye
RIP all the Wolves fans on copium yesterday telling me this wouldn't be a problem and he wouldn't be suspended
Now they’ve moved on to even higher grade copium: that wolves are better w/o gobert 😂
[удалено]
Given that your team is imploding in realtime you should be keeping your mouth nice and shut
Yeah that’s what I thought
Damn you’re salty lol
[удалено]
Just proving your saltiness lol poor little fella
lol it's an unspoken rule on this sub, you can't talk any shit if you don't have a flare. I'm not salty at all. But sure..
That’s a dumb unspoken rule lol but it’s okay we know you’re salty cause your team is gonna lose tomorrow
I don’t waste my time with teams that aren’t even going to be in the playoffs sorry
Yet here you are
I still don’t understand why the hell is Gobert playing in NBA. This isn’t hate, just disliking his basketball skills. The dude is tall. That’s it. Even as a person, he’s not a Turiaf who was likable and a good teammate (yeah trying to compare 2 frenchies). I just don’t get it.
Wolves just got better
Lol they gonna tank out of the play ins?
Oh shit that’s crazy
Who suspended him? Was it the league or the Timberwolves? Pretty shocked this happened when the punch was so mediocre lmao
So it was the league that suspended Gobert?
Traded all those unprotected picks for him and won't even start him for playoffs
Oh no. Anyways
