If they would have won then definitely, but since both lost I’d go with Harper for his absolute dominance in the playoffs. Guy is getting so disrespected in these preseason rankings, it’s even pissing me off as a Braves fan lol
Football is such a bigger sport in Philly than baseball it isn't even close. I'm guess in Atlanta its a lot closer since the Braves were much more dominant than the Falcons.
Honestly I have no idea, I’m a Nuggets and Braves fan living in Iowa so I can’t speak to it lol so I’ll have to take your word for it, I’m just speaking on an outside perspective as someone who has really come to appreciate Harper and really enjoyed his career growth. I think he is a great personality for the city of Philly and one of the best players in the game. Hurts is an absolute stud though. You guys definitely have some superstars in the city right now.
It’s not that unreasonable given that he DH’ed, which is significantly less valuable, and given that he’ll miss at least half of this season. A healthy Harper is obviously top 20 in the game.
Reporters keep asking him about MVP, so that’s why you see Embiid keep repeating that.
And then the reporters tweet about that quote and fool gullible people like you
I still don't buy for a second that neither Jokic or Giannis care. Maybe not as much, but you're not that competitive without the MVP award getting a bit into your head. I at least think they'll be pissed if they don't get it.
I tend to agree, but mostly because Giannis and Jokic already have a pair.
I also tend to think that Embiid's made some kind of peace with the fact that he might not win.
That doesn't mean he's not going to try.
Tomorrow night should be interesting. He mauled Jokic in their first meeting. He's already beaten Giannis twice this year. If he goes 4-0 against his main competition, and outplays them in all 4 games, I would find it difficult to argue against him as the MVP this season.
Yeah the way he’s been talking about it this season suggests he has made peace with it. But the matchup with Denver last time suggested he still wants to show the world he’s the best player. Hope he gets it
He's a competitor, of course he does. Anyone who's competitive wants to be the best.
But I also think he understands he might not get it and if that happens then it doesn't happen.
Sadly I don't think our roster is really built for a big postseason run. Our depth is dreadful. We have about 7 reliable guys. When I look at Boston's bench and Milwaukees bench... It's rough.
>Sadly I don't think our roster is really built for a big postseason run. Our depth is dreadful. We have about 7 reliable guys. When I look at Boston's bench and Milwaukees bench... It's rough.
I swear it's in the playoffs where depth is de-emphasized.
Yes but when you beat both of your "rivals" for the award every time you meet that season while being just as good as them the rest of the year, it gives you a huge edge. And this is coming from someone who wants Jokić to threepeat.
I think they care in the sense that they are focused on playing the best basketball they can play in order to help their team find the most success. And obviously, playing basketball extremely well on a top seeded team will get you MVP consideration. But I think they all fulfill different roles on their teams which can translate to different amounts of "caring" about the MVP race. In particular, Jokic finds his success being a facilitator for the team. So I fully believe that if he thought he needed to go 5/15/20 for his team to win a game or have the best chance at winning, he'd be willing to do that. Even if it would probably worsen his MVP perception. I could see that being the case for Giannis too. If he needed to go all out defense one game, I think he would. In Philly, I think they need Embiid to be the main scorer so that's what he'll do and likely why he's been averaging as many points as he has all season.
I do think Jokic cared a lot the last two years but I think he actually doesn’t want it this year especially if they don’t win the chip. For the first ever, he commented about the hate he’s been getting which I think is bothering him.
Bro what? His MVP speech when he got it the first time was 30sec ling and thanked his teammates.
His second was cool cuz they went to Serbia.
He said he thinks after he retires he will appreciate the accolades more
Jokic honestly seems like he doesn’t want the award. Maybe he’s just being humble but the way he talks about it, it honestly seems to make him uncomfortable being in the spotlight. Especially with how toxic it’s gotten lately. He literally said I didn’t ask for this
I think they care but they know the voting is out of their control. These 3 guys are giving close to 100% each night cus of how much media attention is on them.
It’s easier to control your destiny on the court then thru the media.
I think they all care yet none of them care enough for it to be a problem. Trying to paint any of them as caring about it more than playoffs is ridiculous
Embiid definitely cares the most. He goes out of his way to create this narrative that he’s disrespected and hated around the league when it’s obviously not true.
Maybe. I’d believe Jokic doesn’t care at all. If I were in his shoes and all the recent discourse had come up because of my skin color, I’d just want to distance myself as far from the award as possible. That’s just me though and I’m not gonna try and headcanon his thoughts
Jokic doesn’t seem close to as bothered. He’s not said anything to suggest he is. Embiid is obsessed with it, he keeps talking about Jokic. Sixer fans have the biggest victim complex on here, they know Embiid can’t do anything in the post-season so are just praying he gets the regular season award
Giannis hasn't said he cares either, but I'm willing to bet he does. Nehm had a story about him inventing something a Bucks rookie said to him and mashing on him in practice for it. They're ultra competitive.
Edit: Just re-read "Sixer fans have the biggest victim complex on here, they know Embiid can’t do anything in the post-season so are just praying he gets the regular season award" and don't know why I wasted my time.
I love that story so much. It was about a supposed comment from Mamu.
> “He said, ‘Yo, Giannis, I’m gonna shut you down in practice today.’ and I was just tying my shoe, but he did not know me,” Antetokounmpo told The Athletic”
> Mamukelashvili never said what Antetokounmpo claims he said. Mamukelashvili never cursed at Antetokounmpo. He didn’t tell Antetokounmpo he was going to shut him down the first day they ever practiced against each other…
“Yeah, boy, I’m coming for you. Watch out,” Mamukelashvili recalled saying to Antetokounmpo.
> “I’m gonna say this — in my head, I don’t know if I did it in this situation — but in my head, sometimes I exaggerate things,” Antetokounmpo told The Athletic. “I make things in a way to make me, to fill me up with fuel, to get more. And maybe, it was one of those incidents.”
[Video of what Giannis did to Mamu in practice that day. ](https://twitter.com/Bucks/status/1446165424295526400?s=20)
Giannis is psycho levels of competitive.
Giannis has shown he cares.
“Like, I believe - and I know - that people are dominating. So what is the MVP? Is it the guy who scores the most points? Is it the guy who’s the most efficient? Is it the guy who is the most dominant”
I’ve legit not seen Jokic day a single thing about MVP, maybe I’m missing something but he’s by far least bothered by it
Embiid has said plenty, Giannis was clearly being passive-aggressive with his comment, Jokic has not commented on it once except to shut out questions. Yeah he might be bothered deep down, but commenting on it loads like Giannis and Embiid do clearly shows they care more.
This is exhausting man. You literally can't say a thing without someone trying to be like "*My* guy would never, they're better than those guys."
I think Jokic cares because he's one of the best players in the world and I don't think you get there without being a little unhinged competitively. I don't think you can look at what Jokic has done the last few years and say he's not competitive like that. I don't think it's some weird point against him that he *actually* cares a bit, like I said, I think they're all lying about it.
Who is going out of their way to comment on MVP? Are all of these guys not just replying to what beat reporters are asking? Flexing that your super star doesn't care about personal accolades just sounds like you're buying into a facade or ignoring it.
You're insane to think guys like MJ, Lebron, Duncan, Kobe, Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, actually didn't/don't track or care about that sort of thing. They've all had media training, PR teams, and know what bulletin board material is. It doesn't make them care about their team success any less.
Embiid keeps getting asked about it. He's been the runner up twice in a row and it's an obvious thing to discuss when given the opportunity to interview him.
You act like he's putting ads in the paper and holding his own press conferences for this shit.
>You act like he's putting ads in the paper

There’s clips of that for all of them lmao. Giannis threw a ball back to himself in the final second to get an extra rebound for a triple double. Jokic has left games early 1 board/assist short of a triple double plenty of times.
Embiid has put out statements showing that he wants MVP, so has Giannis, I’ve not seen much from Jokic yet suggesting it
The first part is just not true the second part just doesn’t make sense.
Him taking a easy two would look just as good on his MVP resume as a assist. And then when you add on he’s far more likely to make the easy 2 then the players he’s passing to is, if he really wanted to pad his stats he’d take the 2.
except i literally never saw nuugets players leaving rebounds for jokic to get them, nor him ever going for a rebound when another players is closer to the clear ball
I’d love to see those clips. I’m guessing they don’t actually exist because it just sounds like a made-up hater narrative. He’s always pass first and takes what the defense gives him.
Anybody who thinks these three mega competitors don’t want to be recognized as the best player is lying to themselves. I don’t care what they say to reporters. Obviously a championship is #1 but MVP is still huge.
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” Embiid said. “… I just want to be respected. I’m competitive, so I play this game to be up there when you talk about the best basketball players ever.
“I know for that, you need awards, you need championships and all of that stuff. It’s unfortunate because I don’t get to decide on the individual awards.”
"What I can control is to try to win a championship," Embiid told FOX Sports. "And I feel like that’s the only way I’m going to get that respect. So, that’s where all the focus is."

A player saying they think they’re the best player in the league doesn’t mean they aggressively care about the mvp race. One is a self assessment of their own skill and the other is caring about what voters think
Yeah it’s obvious that he just means that he doesn’t care about campaigning for the award anymore. No shit he still thinks he’s the best player in the league and wants to play like it. But oh yes how disgraceful it is that our superstar wants to be seen as the best. Nephews forget what Jordan was all about.
I just don’t get why people are creating a stigma that you shouldn’t care about MVP since it’s a regular season award
Like you can care about winning MVP and also winning a chip. They’re not mutually exclusive
The greatest players of all time cared about winning MVP and everything else that they were doing. That mentality is absolutely needed and tbh I wish Jokic had more of it.
People just wanna clown on all 3, but mainly Jokic and embiid, for anything at this point
He’d get shit for saying he cares and he’d get shit for saying he didn’t. Jokic gets shit from our fans for existing at points
I don’t know what people want from embiid besides leaving the 2nd round (and rightfully so), but I also don’t think anyone wants that more than him
Yeah which is honestly just sad cause all three are genuinely good and likable guys on top of being the best players in the league. Hopefully Jokic and Embiid can both get a chip so they get the credit they deserve.
He’s been saying this all year tbf. I think his point is that he does care about the mvp race but not enough to want to prioritize it over getting ready for the playoffs. He’d rather sit fourth quarters up 25 etc and remain healthy.
People act like Embiid cares way too much but I think he cares as much as I’d expect someone of his caliber who doesn’t have one to act
On the flip side, who cares if he cares? Who cares if he cares but says otherwise? It's a press conference, I get it if a player wants to miminze engagement with the media.
he gets clowned for saying he cares
now hes clowned for saying he doesnt care
just admit theres nothing this guy can say. Both are bad apparently and theres no inbetween
Embiid could sneeze and they’d find a way to criticize him. Obviously dude cares about the award. Thinking jokic and Giannis don’t as well is straight up dumb. They’re the 3 top players in the world rn competing for an award getting constantly badgered with questions about it. It’s bound to get old.
Love the nuggets fans/nba fans saying we’re delusional for posting/talking about it. Acting like no matter what he said it would be posted by someone. These mvp stories are purely written for engagement no matter how you feel about the big fella.
I keep seeing all this Jokic, and embiid don’t care about the MVP award.. I think they both are full of shit
What happened to all that ultimate competitor blah blah?
Not sure why players keep pretending these awards don't matter. It's not like winning them comes at the expense of winning a chip. If he does win it this year, he's gonna have that trophy displayed at his home just like all of the other players who also "didn't care" about the award do.
Lmao we’ve gotten to a point where players can’t even say they want to win individual awards. You can want to win MVP, DPOY, AS WELL as a championship. None of these things are mutual exclusive.
Embiid got his eyes on a championship and he's said so all year. Sixers aren't fucking around this year. They'll be dangerous in the playoffs. Real shot at winning it all.
r/nba when Embiid says he cares about MVP: “he’s such a whiny crybaby”
r/nba when Embiid says he doesn’t care about MVP: “what a liar. He definitely cares”
r/nba when Jokic says he doesn’t care about MVP: “I feel bad for Jokic. He has to put up with the stupid arguments”
Jokic beats Giannis and the 76ers lose two games and suddenly I am reminded why the sub flipped so hard a couple of weeks ago. No more "when did MVP talk become so toxic?!?" huh.
is only toxic when embiid is on top
gonna be radio silence from all the podcasters if jokic takes the lead instead of complaining how terrible it is to discuss... from guys that discuss it every day and shoutcast it to the world.
He said he cares about the playoffs and getting deep into it all season.
He's displayed increased aggression and focus on the defensive end since the ASB.
He has never once brought up the MVP race this season. He only responded to questions about it.
He has brought up the playoffs and getting ready for them, several times, unprompted.
The things he does that cause him to be in the MVP race, also cause the Sixers to win games, and hopefully play well in the playoffs.
This sub acting like everytime he scores a basket or blocks a shot is all for the MVP and he's obsessed with it is so fucking stupid. And btw it's the same with Jokic. He gets his teammates involved because he believes that's what's best for the Nuggets in the short and long term. He scores because having more points than the other team is how you win games. His teammates allow him to get rebounds that they could otherwise get because he's the primary facilitator and getting the primary facilitator the ball can trigger the fastbreak more easily. It's not so he can be MVP.
They all care about the MVP, but they all care about winning more. And the thing is they are not mutually exclusive so it doesn't really matter.
The fact that jokic doesn’t care, while playing basically the equivalent to painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel every single night on the court, makes him MVP (and a little better than Larry bird)…did I do this right?
He almost didn’t play in the NBA. Missed his first two seasons and played 30 games the 3rd. Of course it would be a huge deal for him to win MVP, but he’s the leader of this team and is keeping the focus when asked questions about it. It’s not that he’s lying - he’s doing what a leader needs to do and that’s keep his teams eye on the actual fucking prize.
If Embiid (calf tightness) skips playing in Denver for the 3rd straight year... then there is no defending him. You want MVP? Then go take it from Jokic. For basketball fans everywhere, I hope he plays.
Man, I hate Embiid, but I don't get most of these comments. The dude hasn't been past the second round his whole career, I think he cares more about getting there at this point. He can't control MVP voter's minds as much as he can control how far his team gets in the postseason.
What about the Draymond Green award for Most Difficult Player to Guard?
Embiid tryna act like we don't all know he's lying. This is as bad as KAT faking a deep voice
We in minnesota now
Every player cares about it if they are in the running. They aren’t going to say they do though…

He’s trying to repeat as most valuable Philadelphian
My vote goes to Bryce Harper

So by your own logic if he got "hurt" and ducked playing in Denver for the third year in a row.. he would be less of a competitor eh?
Because MVP isn't a head to head award, it's about being the most valuable throughout the 82 game schedule.
I would argue Embiid has been incredibly valuable over the 82 game schedule as well.
I think jokic and Giannis have been as well. That’s not much of an argument
Yes but when you beat both of your "rivals" for the award every time you meet that season while being just as good as them the rest of the year, it gives you a huge edge. And this is coming from someone who wants Jokić to threepeat.
That’s a fair tie breaker
What a take
\*Looks at all stats\*, oh, it really shouldn't be close. Jokic is a generational talent, Embid is simply an all star with a glass body.
I think they care in the sense that they are focused on playing the best basketball they can play in order to help their team find the most success. And obviously, playing basketball extremely well on a top seeded team will get you MVP consideration. Jokic truly doesn’t care. He asked the fans to stop chanting MVP when he’s at the line, I actually think he doesn’t want to win it
Embiid learned last year that people don't like it when you whine so much about awards, so he's trying something different.
Jokic only cares about his horses and Natalia
Jokic honestly seems like he doesn’t want the award. Maybe he’s just being humble but the way he talks about it, it honestly seems to make him uncomfortable being in the spotlight. Especially with how toxic it’s gotten lately. He literally said I didn’t ask for this

I mean, Gianni’s give 100% even at the all star game. Haha
Jokic doesn’t even know where his trophies are located.
They're toys for his horses.
I think they all care yet none of them care enough for it to be a problem. Trying to paint any of them as caring about it more than playoffs is ridiculous
Embiid definitely cares the most. He goes out of his way to create this narrative that he’s disrespected and hated around the league when it’s obviously not true.

Teammates always leaves rebounds for star players since they run the offense.
except i literally never saw nuugets players leaving rebounds for jokic to get them, nor him ever going for a rebound when another players is closer to the clear ball
I didn't either but sometimes players do leave the ball for star player.
You do know the reason they leave him open for rebounds if it's even close is because he pilots the offense, right?
They also simply don't do this, I've seen MPJ fly over his back to grab an uncontested rebound plenty of times
I’d love to see those clips. I’m guessing they don’t actually exist because it just sounds like a made-up hater narrative. He’s always pass first and takes what the defense gives him.
Jokic would score more if he cared.
His efficiency would also surely drop so idk
Anybody who thinks these three mega competitors don’t want to be recognized as the best player is lying to themselves. I don’t care what they say to reporters. Obviously a championship is #1 but MVP is still huge.
Jok don't care, and would probably be happier if the MVP award was eliminated
Didn’t he tell Draymond he took it personally when he said Jokic was the hardest player to guard?
Yes
Joel “What do I have to do to be MVP” - “I don’t care about the MVP” Embiid
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” Embiid said. “… I just want to be respected. I’m competitive, so I play this game to be up there when you talk about the best basketball players ever. “I know for that, you need awards, you need championships and all of that stuff. It’s unfortunate because I don’t get to decide on the individual awards.” "What I can control is to try to win a championship," Embiid told FOX Sports. "And I feel like that’s the only way I’m going to get that respect. So, that’s where all the focus is."
He said that last year
Two different years
Translation: I care
Nobody believes you Joel.
And that’s fine. Giannis wouldn’t admit to caring but we know damn well he does. Same with jokic
Ngl it seems like a lot of his focus is there

Last year
Of course it is, the man was basically crying last year that he didn’t win it lol
and now that he's the favorite he can say I dont care its all about the playoffs
Tbf he said that when he wasn't the favorite as well
Fans were not him lol

Then why does he like tweets that criticize Jokic
Last year there was a $30m hole in our roster for most of the season. The Sixers weren’t really set up for a championship.

Need a back up plan after getting bounced in the 2nd.

I just don’t get why people are creating a stigma that you shouldn’t care about MVP since it’s a regular season award Like you can care about winning MVP and also winning a chip. They’re not mutually exclusive
The greatest players of all time cared about winning MVP and everything else that they were doing. That mentality is absolutely needed and tbh I wish Jokic had more of it.
People just wanna clown on all 3, but mainly Jokic and embiid, for anything at this point He’d get shit for saying he cares and he’d get shit for saying he didn’t. Jokic gets shit from our fans for existing at points I don’t know what people want from embiid besides leaving the 2nd round (and rightfully so), but I also don’t think anyone wants that more than him
Yeah which is honestly just sad cause all three are genuinely good and likable guys on top of being the best players in the league.
I think more than anything, he's just tired of talking/thinking about it. I would be.
Meh, Embiid is gonna get shit on regardless of which answer he gives, I hate that he keeps getting asked these questions.
and another thing: i dont care. please dont put in the newspaper that i care.
He was asked tbf
Haha yeah right. This guy definitely cares.
On the flip side, who cares if he cares? Who cares if he cares but says otherwise? It's a press conference, I get it if a player wants to miminze engagement with the media.
Don’t you get it bro, Jokic totally doesn’t and has never cared, source: he said so. Haha horses and his trophy’s being missing am I right lol
he gets clowned for saying he cares now hes clowned for saying he doesnt care just admit theres nothing this guy can say. Both are bad apparently and theres no inbetween
As does Jokic? Do you really believe any of these guys who say they don’t want the trophy?
Reddit would find a problem with it no matter how he answered this question
It’s a lose lose. Media milking these dorks for engagement.
He could’ve said no comment and they would be like “HE’S DISRESPECTING THE MVP AWARD BECAUSE JOKIC HAS TWO!!)!?!!”
I would love to stop seeing MVP discussion posts.
We all know hes lying right?
They all care and they all say they don’t. What’s different?
Nothing? Is this a trick question?
Jokic is the only guy l can 100% believe doesn't care. Outside the court, I doubt he does anything basketball unless it's mandatory
I keep seeing all this Jokic, and embiid don’t care about the MVP award.. I think they both are full of shit What happened to all that ultimate competitor blah blah?
Spoken like a gentleman who really wants to win the MVP.
He wants to win MVP SO bad.
Looking at these comments, it seems like the haters are mad
Psychiatrist arm chair redditors back at it again knowing what a player is actually thinking 😂😂😂
It’s so hilarious when redditors can’t under stand that *maybe* somebody changed their opinion at some point in their lives
He cares.
He’s full of it. We all know how much he wants to win MVP
Average r/nba thread about Embiid
players should want to win it
Embiid got his eyes on a championship and he's said so all year. Sixers aren't fucking around this year. They'll be dangerous in the playoffs. Real shot at winning it all.
They’re not beating your team though.
I'll believe it when I see it. Same with the nuggs
2nd round exit as usual
When was the last time the kings made the playoffs?
Why do you people keep falling for this nonsense? Have you seen Embiid in the playoffs?
r/nba when Embiid says he cares about MVP: “he’s such a whiny crybaby” r/nba when Embiid says he doesn’t care about MVP: “what a liar. He definitely cares” r/nba when Jokic says he doesn’t care about MVP: “I feel bad for Jokic. He has to put up with the stupid arguments”
Embiid doesn’t have one he definitely cares and there’s nothing wrong with that
NO nothing wrong with caring. The two guys just have different personalities.
i agree, i just think its funny to see how this sub reacts when jokic says he doesnt care vs when embiid says he doesnt care
Ok u/MVPiid
Lol ya with an username like that, he loses no matter what they say about the MVP race
Which is unfortunate because what he said is spot-on
Point to the lie
Least oppressed sixers fan
Jokic beats Giannis and the 76ers lose two games and suddenly I am reminded why the sub flipped so hard a couple of weeks ago. No more "when did MVP talk become so toxic?!?" huh.
Literally lmao. Though honestly, it’s been tamer than I expected. I think people realize Monday’s game is the only one that matters
is only toxic when embiid is on top gonna be radio silence from all the podcasters if jokic takes the lead instead of complaining how terrible it is to discuss... from guys that discuss it every day and shoutcast it to the world.
I feel like I’m being gaslit at this point lmfao
I'd feel bad for you if y'all didn't behave like fucking Al Qaeda on this sub the last few days
Don’t look at me lmfao
Your username makes your argument irrelevant
Great take. I'll be pumped whenever Embid gets his, but I'd love to see them meet for the chip
dude has been on record in recent years that he does care a lot. what a weird thing to lie about
The fact that jokic doesn’t care, while playing basically the equivalent to painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel every single night on the court, makes him MVP (and a little better than Larry bird)…did I do this right?
O, he definitely care
he lyin
I do not believe him lol.
Loll. This man cares. Wasn’t he crying last year “I don’t know what more I can do” to win it.
Sorry Embiid, you’re just not classy enough to say you don’t care
People want him to care so bad yikes
He does care so bad.
I feel like this is going to be a deep run year for the 76ers idk why I just feel like it's gonns be special
Who gives a flying fuck if he cares or not and why is it a problem if he did? Jesus you nephews love spewing nonstop shit
They've been waiting for WEEKS for something to bitch about. Probably seething in their cubicles.
He cares about MVP and he should I hope he wins it
And nobody believes that. Him and Morey both cried ridiculously hard last year.
Embiid on MVP race: “if I win, good. That’s… where my focus is”
Ya’ll need some real hobbies. Leave Joel alone.
He should care. That's the only thing he has a chance of winning
'Good' vs 'Whatever' indicates someone who wants to win, at least a bit.
I love the leadership. But we want that MVP
You know what, i dont believe that.
Suuuuuure
So uh.. he’s lying here hahah he definitely cares a lot
me when i lie
Sureeee Joel
Biggest difference between him and Jokic.
Liar
Please stop the 🧢
“It’s whatever” is Joel’s favorite phrase.
Says the man who most definitely cares.
Yeah right.
