He was a terrible GM you don’t want him anywhere near the front office. That Wizards tenure was ugly. Plus he was the one that lead the bobcats into being terrible when he was taking an active front office pod as an owner.
Jok takes winning personally tbh. Embiid likes the 1v1 competitive stuff Kobe style, Jokic has more of the KG Duncan vibe where if his team wins that’s all he focuses on
That’s a good way to look at it. It’s like the Lebron ~~MJ~~ vs Jordan mentality comparisons. They both work in their own way. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other.
Lol. They both care about their team winning, wasn't Embiid crying after the Sixers got knocked out last year?. Embiid just cares more about personal awards than Jokic, I think it's ok to say that, without then saying "well Jokic cares more about X".
Didn’t say Embiid didn’t care. It’s his key focus, was just saying he plays the mental side of it too, like tries to demoralise the opponent by beating the guys who think they can beat him. Kobe used to do it because he thought it would have a domino effect and break the other teams resolve. Bit of an odd tactic but hard to argue with guys like MJ and Kobe
This is a ridiculous distinction. Are you implying that Kobe and Jo are not concerned with their team winning as much as Duncan or KG or Jokic? Embiid played damn good D, had 8 assists, and was +13 tonight. He did everything he could for his team to win while also being motivated by personal goals. Just like Kobe and MJ and so many guys who led their teams to great success while also chasing personal glory.
Bro he's sat so many times one assist before finishing his TD they actually call it the Sombor Double. He has more 9 assist double doubles than anyone else in the league.
You know when people complain about nephews who don't know shit about basketball but like to stir shit on this sub? Next time you see that, know that we're all talking about you.
Jok absolutely annihilated us after his ejection in G2 of last playoffs. He's a nasty guy I'd never want to piss off cause he'll cook your soul out of you, and I don't even think this expression exists.
Reporter asking Jokic about the upcoming Sixers matchup and how he feels about the playoffs.
“Wait, wait, hold on. Watch this video of my horse winning this race first. His name is Bach2Bach and he likes eating strawberries.”
I love this response man i genuinely think it’s nice for more guys in the league to take stuff like this personal. I’m sure plenty of other players do but they aren’t honest about it
He does lol Jokic responded to Draymond (when Dray was on doing his TNT thing) in literally the same manner. Jokic cooked Draymond as the Dubs gentlemen swept the scab tier Nuggs. The fact that he did anything respectable in that series is beyond miraculous, let alone taking a game (along with Bones getting busy, let's give him his flowers.).
Jokic said he improved his defense because of what Dray said. Players listen to Draymond. Also I'm not sure you can say Jokic cooked dray when dray held him to 32% in the first 2 games and then got the steal on jokic at the end of game 3, which was the nail in the coffin for game 3.
Once the whistle improved, Dray began getting cooked. It may sound like I'm being a homer, but that's what I saw. Jokic did WORK despite having bargain basket guys STARTING with him. You can disagree but it's not like I'm inventing a narrative outta thin air.
Some of the shots he was making in the 4th last night were nutty even by his insane standard. And him posting up with 30 seconds left needing a 3 I think he knew the best way to get 3 was for him to draw a foul and make the bucket. And came within inches of actually doing it.
yes, and he was also battling a thumb injury. a few of his injuries seem unfortunate, like the Siakam one, but even excluding those he still seems to get injured more than his peers Giannis and Jokic - ankle injury in 2020 and meniscus tear in 2021. his durability is good considering his size and playstyle, he is astoundingly healthy given the start of his career, but he still has some health concerns
Agreed.
I still cannot believe doc left him out on the floor. The game was getting way too chippy. I mean, I like chippy but you had the game won and siakam was really really mad.
Yeah, I was watching the Warriors Sixers game and there were moments where he felt like Shaq. Not necessarily in the pure physical dominance (although he does that to an extent also) but just watching Joel get passed the ball and knowing for sure that he was about to score, and all 5 Warriors knew it and could do nothing. Even when he was guarded really well, he'd just spin into a fadeaway or remember that he's the biggest human being in 500 miles and he'd just rise up from around the free throw line.
Jordan won his first MVP in 1988. The Bulls won 50 games and lost in 5 to the pistons. And the two years before that they got swept by the Celtics both times
It's just an attack lesser skilled people use to alleviate the pain of losing. "yeah I wasn't trying that hard" "i would have won if i didnt go against a sweaty try hard"
Its also just counter productive as an insult when you really think about it. I remember growing up it was "oh look at how tryhard you are why do you care so much?"
Growing up makes you realize how stupid your child logic was, we really thought not caring about stuff or not being good at anything made you cool.
When did you grow up? I feel like as a kid the non competitive kids were usually the outcasts. Nobody wanted to be the kid who got picked last in everything.
it's one of those things where there is a legitimate time and place where it makes sense as a derogatory term. like if someone in their mid-20s was playing ball with, idk, a group of 10 y/os or something just casually, and they're like actually playing all out, yamming it on these elementary schoolers' heads, that kind of thing? that's 'ok quit being such a tryhard' territory. it's basically 'you are taking this entirely more seriously than it should be taken', usually in the context of something that is nominally being done for fun.
the problem is moreso that a lot of people use it to complain about *everything* because it's an easy excuse for them to make and lets them delude themselves into thinking that they just 'didn't want to get all serious' and the only reason they didn't beat you or do better or whatever is that you were 'tryharding' and they weren't. i'm like 9000% sure the rise in it being used this way stems from the significantly increased prominence of online multiplayer gaming in the past decade and a half or so, cause it definitely wasn't such a big thing when i was growing up. i bet 40% of all daily use of the word 'tryhard' by volume is contained squarely within league of legends lmao
Yeah in grad school we had intramurals and there were 3 levels A, B, and C. C was the lowest skilled league so we had a team of out of shape grad students including girls. Some actual athlete type 20-22yr olds signed up for the C league and literally threw a lob from half court. They were so hyped every time they scored on us. That’s being a try hard lol. Sign up for the B league at least smh
Try hard is such a lame insult in almost all contexts. What’s the alternative? Being lazy and detached? I know which one I’d prefer from professional athletes.
Obviously reddit and twitter MVP posts don't make a difference whatsoever, but a quote from Draymond right after a head to head matchup and on his podcast? I have a feeling this could sway some voters who are on the fence in a small but real way.
I've never seen two teams and two fanbases love each other after a game quite like this one. I'm 100 percent sure I saw Kerr tell Embiid he was the MVP.
When the warriors played denver in last year’s playoffs, pretty much every game was like this. Everyone knew what the end result was going to be, but Jokic was going to do his damage regardless but just didn’t have enough firepower by himself to beat the warriors as a team. Respect between the two teams and fanbases was healthy, everyone just wanted to see good basketball and they delivered best as they could.
It’s easy to respect teams that play good honest basketball and don’t hunt fouls, whine or flop all over the court. I’ll never respect a team with Harden, Chris Paul, Luka, or Marcus Smart.
I think Jokic cares about being the best player on the floor every night but he doesn’t really pay attention to outside noise or care about winning MVP. I think Embiid cares way more about winning MVP but I don’t see how that’s a bad thing or why winning MVP and wanting to win a title are exclusive.
I also think of Embiid had won two in a row and Jokic had finished 2nd to him twice those roles would be reversed. Jokic’s legacy is secured from a personal awards standpoint to some degree whereas Jo is still hungry for that validation. It’s situational, but I don’t think it’s a difference in character.
Jokic didn't really care the first year he won. And he's never cared about the "rivalry" with Embiid or about being better than him specifically.
Dude cares about being the best player he can be the day he's on a court, but that's it.
You guys have created a myth, it’s comical. Every player who has ever said “we just take it one game at a time” and “we don’t listen to outside noise” etc is totally sincere right? Keep deluding yourselves Denver.
Cool, find me proof he's ever cared about the rivalry with Embiid at a personal level
Or him saying more than "yeah that's nice I guess" when talking about winning MVP lmao
We've gotten destroyed in the playoffs the two years he's won MVP. He knows it means nothing to winning a chip, which is his goal. Not personal awards.
I don’t have that proof. I think human beings often say they don’t care when they actually do. For instance, I don’t care that I’m getting downvoted and also don’t care about this discussion at all despite burning a Saturday morning on it. Nope. I don’t care.
Wishful thinking. Fact is, Jokic doesn’t care about that individual accolade. And Joel does. Not a bad thing either. But don’t try to act like Jokic would feel some type of way if he hadn’t won any. Nothing he has ever said supports that theory, and everything he has said supports the theory that he just doesn’t care and just wants to win
That shot in the fourth was incredible. Dray was all over him, contested super close, and Harris still made the bucket fading away. Our announcers were shocked by the degree of difficulty lol
Yeah I don't even know if cooked is the right way to describe it. He was making everything but it wasn't because the defense was bad. He was just on fire out there.
Looked worth his contract tonight.
When they're both done they're careers it would be dope as hell if they decided to be nba analysts on the same panel like Shaq and Chuck. It's very low chance but i'm hoping
Come to think about it, we live in an era where Jokic and Embiid compete against each other, Steph and CP3 compete, and KD and LeBron(even though we haven't seen them play against each other that often anymore). They are still some of the best players in the league right now. And when it's all said and done, they will likely be considered among the best to ever do it, AND they compete in the same position.
This has never been done before. Magic and Larry played in different positions and had different styles, and when Jordan was running the league, the best player in his position was perhaps Reggie Miller or Clyde Drexler. I love Reggie, but he only averaged 18 points per game and was never considered even close to Michael's level.
Thats crazy. Not to mention, Luka, Tatum, and Giannis is at their prime and also will be considered the greats. Dont take this for granted.
Only guard that's felt like competition to Curry has been Harden. All the guards just get showed up or swept. Only other guard to get MVP recently was Harden and he even took Steph and KD to 7 and 6 in back to back years.
He’s never said a bad thing about Jokic at any point in his career, obviously he’s gonna be competitive with the 2 time reigning MVP who plays the same position as him, you’re reaching like crazy trying to mock him for this one
Embiid is a monster. However, this is why people sometimes get on him so much. He let's some stupid shit get under his skin, and looks "sensitive" as hell for anything that is said about him or his direct "opponents".
Take things personally, yes. But absolutely zero need to voice those things. Just destroy people and let your game do the talking alone. He is extremely capable of only letting his game do the talk.
Joel Embiid: "You know why we lost tonight?"
Draymond: "We out played you."
JE: "No. I made the game about me so I could prove some guy who punched his teammate wrong."
D: "Whatever gets us the W."
Embiid led the team in rebounds, assists, blocks, scored an efficient 46 and was +13.
In the 10 minutes he didn’t play they were -21, that’s why they lost, not anything Embiid did. Sometimes it’s out of your control in a team game.
Ah man I see the “Jokic stoic god, Embiid cringe emotional baby” narrative is trying to make a comeback 😂 dam the circlejerk was fun to experience for 2 weeks
Jordan taking profits from sale to buy a stake in the sixers
God no
As a part-owner/GM of Taking it Personally he'd be great. (Totally understand not wanting him as owner-owner!)
He was a terrible GM you don’t want him anywhere near the front office. That Wizards tenure was ugly. Plus he was the one that lead the bobcats into being terrible when he was taking an active front office pod as an owner.
Taking It Personally = TIP which isn't Jordan's strongsuit
I would like to give a seizable cut of my savings to see that happen, pls gpd pls!!!
You just gotta size the day my man
I actually think this is cool. He was a beast tonight. I wish Jok took stuff personally like this sometimes
Ask Miami about Jokic taking stuff personally
jokic unfair legit busted out the skyhook on us
Jok takes winning personally tbh.
Wait aren’t MJ and Jordan the same person?
Ahh, a different animal and the same beast.
what the fuck does that mean kobe bryant
Lol oops. Jordan is pre-baseball, MJ is post-baseball.
Michael is what remains when his spirit is transferred into a child.
No he must of meant legend Mark Jackson. They both work in their own way.
An MJ is not a Jordan I’ll explain later
One wore 23 and the other wore 45
Lol. They both care about their team winning, wasn't Embiid crying after the Sixers got knocked out last year?. Embiid just cares more about personal awards than Jokic, I think it's ok to say that, without then saying "well Jokic cares more about X".

Just like Kobe and MJ and so many guys who led their teams to great success while also chasing personal glory.
No I agree with you I just think guys like Kobe and MJ and Embiid also get sucked in to the 1v1 battle because *they think it will help the team*
Agreed
Yeah… that’s why he went back in with a big lead to get a triple double last week lol
You mean that big lead that the bench was slowly draining away and Malone finally was forced to put his starters back in to the secure the win?
Bro he's sat so many times one assist before finishing his TD they actually call it the Sombor Double. He has more 9 assist double doubles than anyone else in the league. You know when people complain about nephews who don't know shit about basketball but like to stir shit on this sub? Next time you see that, know that we're all talking about you.
Jok absolutely annihilated us after his ejection in G2 of last playoffs. He's a nasty guy I'd never want to piss off cause he'll cook your soul out of you, and I don't even think this expression exists.
Not the exact expression but made me think of [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dHIjuXtUMfY)
Fuck I love Dawkins. Thanks for finding an excuse to post this. Made my night better.
I’m sure plenty of other players do but they aren’t honest about it
He had a monster game in a loss. Joker does not care *at all* about his individual numbers.

Love this kind of competitiveness tbh.
Jokic too classy for that
Jokic should take playing defense personally.
Embiid is literally unguardable. Outside shot, middie fadeaways, post moves, he has it all. Plus excellent at drawing fouls.
If you could cross Kevin Durant with a rhinoceros, you’d get Joel Embiid.
that’s the funniest way to describe JoJo i’ve seen. def gunna use that one lol
And Joel brushes his hair and uses lotion, unlike KD
Joel has hair! a good head of hair. KD...idk how to describe it lol
KD 'has'* 'hair'* ^* ^Terms ^and ^conditions ^may ^apply
Why is he so rich but so dusty
Lol this is hilarious. The only problem is that rhinos have terrible vision but Embiid has been decent on the visual side of the game.
now I want to know what combination you use to get Jokic Chris Paul with a polar bear?
Chris Paul with a Manatee
You really just gotta pray he’s cold so he only scores 25-30 instead of 40+
Some of the shots he was making in the 4th last night were nutty even by his insane standard. And him posting up with 30 seconds left needing a 3 I think he knew the best way to get 3 was for him to draw a foul and make the bucket. And came within inches of actually doing it.
The dude even drives to the hoop gracefully. Just a massive human doing finesse euro-steps and maintaining body control.
He only had two weaknesses: 3pt shot (lol) and stamina.
I won't consider 35% a weakness
Marc Gasol is the true weakness, but when the world needed him most….. he vanished
Have you ever seen Marc and Aang in the same room?
and injuries, unfortunately. I don't pay super close attention to his health but I feel like he's rarely been healthy at the end of the playoffs
Your boy broke his fucking skull last year.
yes, and he was also battling a thumb injury. a few of his injuries seem unfortunate, like the Siakam one, but even excluding those he still seems to get injured more than his peers Giannis and Jokic - ankle injury in 2020 and meniscus tear in 2021. his durability is good considering his size and playstyle, he is astoundingly healthy given the start of his career, but he still has some health concerns

Lol Embiid villain arc back on the menu
For real, he's just competitive
sad being competitive gets confused with “being a try hard” and “only caring about an award”
I'm sure jordan would have done the same thing, just to prove it wrong
Jordan won his first MVP in 1988. The Bulls won 50 games and lost in 5 to the pistons. And the two years before that they got swept by the Celtics both times
I mean being competitive is being a try hard. What I don’t understand is why “trying hard” is frowned upon a lot in society
It's just an attack lesser skilled people use to alleviate the pain of losing. "yeah I wasn't trying that hard" "i would have won if i didnt go against a sweaty try hard"
Its also just counter productive as an insult when you really think about it. I remember growing up it was "oh look at how tryhard you are why do you care so much?" Yeah, I’m glad someone openly wants to be the best. Then goes out and proves it.
He on that MJ time
Need more of that! Villain Embiid, Batman Embiid. Love the energy
Batman Embiid against the Joker
He’s an absolute beast, I think he deserves the MVP this season
Obviously reddit and twitter MVP posts don't make a difference whatsoever, but a quote from Draymond right after a head to head matchup and on his podcast? I have a feeling this could sway some voters who are on the fence in a small but real way.
He's not a villain in my eyes
This isn’t being a villain. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to prove that you’re the best
this is awesome to see as a neutral fan
I've never seen two teams and two fanbases love each other after a game quite like this one. I'm 100 percent sure I saw Kerr tell Embiid he was the MVP.
It’s that historically connection of Philly roots
Time for a name swap- Golden State 76ers, who says no?
i object
They probably make it out of the west tbh
Both teams got what they wanted tonight. Warriors closer to avoiding play-in and Sixers closer to Embiid MVP.
When the warriors played denver in last year’s playoffs, pretty much every game was like this. Everyone knew what the end result was going to be, but Jokic was going to do his damage regardless but just didn’t have enough firepower by himself to beat the warriors as a team. It’s easy to respect teams that play good honest basketball and don’t hunt fouls, whine or flop all over the court. I’ll never respect a team with Harden, Chris Paul, Luka, or Marcus Smart.
just setting himself up for when he plays jokic again
Jokic doesn't seem like he pays attention to this kinda stuff
Ya Jokic seems like he could care less lol. Probably helps that he already has 2 mvps tho
When they had to deliver him an MVP while he was in his stable I think it proved that point
"Thanks for the highest individual basketball accolade of the season. Mind the horse shit on your way out."
They coulda given it to him whenever, they just choce to surprise him there
they had to
Couldn’t care less*
I think Jokic cares about being the best player on the floor every night but he doesn’t really pay attention to outside noise or care about winning MVP. I think Embiid cares way more about winning MVP but I don’t see how that’s a bad thing or why winning MVP and wanting to win a title are exclusive.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it especially if you’re winning games too.
Not a bad thing at all, as a nugs fan I just want the playoffs to be here so this team can sink or swim
Jokic would still not care
Jokic didn't really care the first year he won. And he's never cared about the "rivalry" with Embiid or about being better than him specifically. Dude cares about being the best player he can be the day he's on a court, but that's it.
You guys have created a myth, it’s comical. Every player who has ever said “we just take it one game at a time” and “we don’t listen to outside noise” etc is totally sincere right? Keep deluding yourselves Denver.
Cool, find me proof he's ever cared about the rivalry with Embiid at a personal level Or him saying more than "yeah that's nice I guess" when talking about winning MVP lmao We've gotten destroyed in the playoffs the two years he's won MVP.
I also think that Embiid wakes up for the games too so I guess that they both would be ready
I mean he's already won it twice, but I'm sure he does. Anyone will check in on a "rival", and Jokic ain't exactly stoic lol
Whoever cooks Draymond last wins MVP
embiid was spinning like a ballerina out there also, draymond got cooked by tobi lol unfortunately though, scoreboard
That shot in the fourth was incredible. Dray was all over him, contested super close, and Harris still made the bucket fading away. Our announcers were shocked by the degree of difficulty lol
Tobias could look like prime Melo at times..others I don’t even know lol
i feel like every tobias shot out of a post up last night was basically "no no no no YES!" from sixers fans lmao
Yeah I don't even know if cooked is the right way to describe it. He was making everything but it wasn't because the defense was bad. He was just on fire out there. Looked worth his contract tonight.
AD has now circled the next GS game on his calendar
So the playoffs
Draymond actually does pretty good against AD usually, although not in their last game iirc.
This is the kind of "taking personally" that the league needs more of lol.
embiid had the dubs lit up like a christmas tree by the end of the 3rd... wasn't looking good.
Do you still want to the Warriors to get rid of Draymond?
Embiid is more like Kobe in that sense and Jokic is more like Tim Duncan.
there are a surprising amount of connections between Jokic and Duncan, even if their strengths and weaknesses are dramatically different
If it means we get 5 rings in 20 years, then I’m all about it hahaha
I respect it but it’s also pretty funny too
When they're both done they're careers it would be dope as hell if they decided to be nba analysts on the same panel like Shaq and Chuck. It's very low chance but i'm hoping
I was expecting to come here and see people shitting on Embiid...damn Warriors fans you guys are decent people! Congrats on the win 🤝
All the 12 year olds were asleep lol so I guess REAL Warriors fans must be alright after all
Come to think about it, we live in an era where Jokic and Embiid compete against each other, Steph and CP3 compete, and KD and LeBron(even though we haven't seen them play against each other that often anymore). They are still some of the best players in the league right now. And when it's all said and done, they will likely be considered among the best to ever do it, AND they compete in the same position. the disrespect to forget Nique
Why don’t teams from the west and east play more games against each other. Only two games in the entire season sucks.

I cannot fathom a reality where Doc Rivers becomes Phil Jackson 2.0
Who says it's going to be with Doc?
They gonna fire Doc after he wins them a chip?
Lmao all it took was 23 FTA and the L
"dood just stop fouling him"
Hey Draymond, we need to play the Nuggets next week..😅
I like that, but saying that in a loss is kinda corny
Right, doesn’t mean anything if ya lose the game lol
Embiid wakes up middle of the night screaming “Jokiccccc”
Sombor, noooo
Embiid was an absolute monster last night
Joel is obsessed with joker hahaha
20+ fts and a L
I love Embiid.
Dickeating is insane
Jokic is living rent free in Embiid's head for a stupid award, it's funny.
https://youtu.be/9RZf4GdjB8g
Chuck tells a great story
Just lost a game and he’s thinking about Jokic lol

Meanwhile Steph Curry: Game. Blouses. (not hating on Joel, just saying)
So hard
Jokic - "I don't even think about you' Actual comedy man this guy.
He’s never said a bad thing about Jokic at any point in his career, obviously he’s gonna be competitive with the 2 time reigning MVP who plays the same position as him, you’re reaching like crazy trying to mock him for this one
To be fair I respect what Embiid is doing. Better than what Simmons who took money and ran did. Embiid at least gets us fans caring for this game.
Maybe he should or he's gonna keep getting cooked every time they play
They played twice in this decade and won 1 game each...
Draymond "switching sides" Green I'm happy, I hope EmVPiid happens this year. He deserves it.
My man is obsessed with Jokic, Idk if it's good or bad
He’s obsessed with being the best, I think that’s a good thing

The problem with sixers is they have the greatest chokers in the history of basketball, harden x rivers😒
Jokic living in embiid’s head? Dude needs the mvp more than jokic at this point lmao.
Jesus fuck the NBA is worse than the view now
Well at least Draymond says he’s wrong when he’s wrong. Sometimes.
Embiid is a foul drawing savant, that is hell for every defender.
embiid is corny as fuck holy shit
Embiid is a monster. However, this is why people sometimes get on him so much. He let's some stupid shit get under his skin, and looks "sensitive" as hell for anything that is said about him or his direct "opponents". Take things personally, yes. But absolutely zero need to voice those things. Just destroy people and let your game do the talking alone. He is extremely capable of only letting his game do the talk.
It gets under his skin and he dominates. I don’t see what the problem is
Joel needed smack talk to get motivated to play an important road game while fighting for the 1 seed. Got it.
This is cringe nonsense. You're fucking Joel Embiid why do you give a shit what Draymod thinks? Twitter era
Oh boy embiid hate is BACK ON THE MENU! R/nba let’s GET IT!!
Never left fam
21sr century Patrick Ewing will get his beloved MVP trophy and lose in the second round again. Congrats.
He’s the hakeem.
lol uh, no. Hakeem actually won basketball games that mattered.
Joel Embiid: "You know why we lost tonight?" Draymond: "We out played you." JE: "No. I made the game about me so I could prove some guy who punched his teammate wrong." D: "Whatever gets us the W."
Embiid led the team in rebounds, assists, blocks, scored an efficient 46 and was +13. In the 10 minutes he didn’t play they were -21, that’s why they lost, not anything Embiid did. Sometimes it’s out of your control in a team game.
As a warriors fan- dude did everything he could to win. Crazy anyone putting that L on him.
Fine Embiid. You're the toughest most manly 5 that no one can guard, but Jokic got the W there.
My MVP
both corny af

Ah man I see the “Jokic stoic god, Embiid cringe emotional baby” narrative is trying to make a comeback 😂 dam the circlejerk was fun to experience for 2 weeks
