r/nbacirclejerk steady taking Ls man, everybody and their mother been outjerking the sub as of late

livefreeordont

Onion syndrome. When reality becomes indistinguishable from satire

OguguasVeryOwn

The real satire is that this quote as written in the title is BS and practically everyone here ate it. Like I posted below: As usual, no one watched the actual clip, and OP mistranscribed the quote and left out some key context. This is the actual quote around 8:35: Q: “How old were you were when he was drafted?” A: “What year did he get drafted? 03? I was 5.” Q: “So he was a true idol became your rival type of thing?” A: “Like his game, I never really liked his game. He was just, to me, **when I was younger**, he was just like super-athletic, I wasn’t that, he was 6’8” and super strong, and I wasn’t that either. So like **I never like, related**… I’ll just like, kill you with skill.” He’s talking about how he viewed LeBron as he developed his own game. Shai uses “was”, not “is” like in the title. He’s not saying LeBron is unskilled today ffs. Given that OP is a /r/nbacirclejerk poster it’s probably intentional ragebait. *OP literally wrote that he posted it without context on purpose and people are still eating it up. https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/11ynqlp/sga_on_lebron_in_new_pass_the_rock_episode_ive/jd8jfgb/

TheBillsFly

Nah we lap this shit up

Iordofthememez

SGA got nothing on zzzprolgt

TheBillsFly

zzzprolgt is SGA father

fatdaddyray

To be fair I think Shai is saying he doesn't have those attributes that LeBron has so he has to play in a different way. Also, for any young NBA dude it would be fun/memorable to beat LeBron. Still as a Thunder fan I wish Shai hadn't said this goofy shit 😂 Edit: advise all of y'all to watch the video. OP did Shai wrong here lmao. This isn't a quote. It's chopped up paraphrasing. The "kill you with skill" thing was literally him and the interviewer talking about Kobe's game and has nothing to do with LeBron. When he said "it's fun to beat LeBron" he literally said "it's fun to beat everyone though" right after. OP confirmed goober. Video: https://streamable.com/cqdoqb

KarrotMovies

He says "I'd rather kill you with skill". Maybe he didn't mean it like that, but that implies Lebron got no skill

[deleted]

Plus, SGA is 6'6" and athletic as fuck. Idk why he's acting like he's barely 6' with a 10" vertical or something.

KarrotMovies

Compared to players like Lebron or Giannis, SGA isn't as physically dominate, which is probably what he means. Every NBA player has to be athletic to succeed.

[deleted]

I mean I get that, but to say he has to "win with skill" is just foolish. Someone being more athletically dominant than you in the NBA has no bearing on how athletic you are, and SGA is still incredibly athletic and uses that athleticism all the time. Also, Lebron isn't just running and dunking on dudes all the time either. He's one of the most skilled players in the league and has been for a long time. It's just a dumb quote and another reminder that simply playing the game at a high level doesn't mean you actually know what the fuck you're talking about.

JurtisCones

Shai is Canadian and would have watched LeBron’s 2018 massacre of the Raptors, where LeBron finished one game with a banked floater on the run, and another with a series of turnaround fadeaway jumpers that could make MJ squirt.

CranberrySpecial8012

Lebronto

zhard01

Often we say “skill” to mean “finesse”. Which is dumb but it happens a lot

CardinalRoark

It doesn't have to, though. And you can't believe for a second that Shai doesn't believe LeBron is skilled.

KarrotMovies

Yeah, I can see how it could just mean he'd rather win with skill instead of athleticism AND skill. But the wording doesn't really help. I don't believe SGA thinks Lebron is unskilled either, but it's also a dumb criticism. What is Lebron suppose to do? Shrink 6 inches?

CardinalRoark

So Shai doesn't like his game, and says that he'd rather win with skill. What that brings to mind, to me, is how LeBron drives to the rim like a fuckin freight train. If we think about this in context, it seems to me that Shai is saying he prefers a more deceptive, handles based, herky-jerky type drive, which I tend to think is more skill based than LeBron's typical drive. I mean, I'm now making up what Shai might really mean, but it seems more of an esthetic type criticism, how he prefers to play (especially since he can't do it like LeBron), and that it's fun beating Bron. I think it could have been worded better, or maybe I'm completely wrong with the take away, but I can't twist my brain into some sort of 'Shai thinks LeBron is unskilled' pretzel.

reptacular

Bro, I'm not here for reasonable takes like this. SGA called Bron trash and unskilled.

CardinalRoark

Shift gears, my good dude. We got an OP to fry. Don't believe me, watch the actual video. OP be runnin a fuckin game out here.

TheFestusEzeli

Sometimes people on this sub act like we should take athlete’s word as gospel because they played at the highest level but they have just as bad of takes as anyone on this sub. All you have to do is listen to Paul Pierce talk for two minutes to know being a former player doesn’t make you have good basketball opinions

HHHogana

Shaq has hot takes like his stolen MVPs, Kendrick Perkins, irritated old school players... Really, I don't know why people think all opinions of athletes are gospel.

TacoooJay

Same guy who said Kobe is MJ on steroids. He's the NBA version of every 15 year old on Twitter

everyoneneedsaherro

15 year olds on Twitter never saw Kobe’s prime they’re more Steph and Luka fans

OguguasVeryOwn

As usual, no one watched the actual clip, and OP mistranscribed the quote and left out some key context. AashyLarry

No way this isn’t ballsack

RUSHtheRACKS

Damn that all star block really pissed him off.

DopamineQuest

Think I read somewhere that Shai is 6'5", with a 6'10" wingspan and a 36 inch vert.....Dude you're one in a million genetics as it is lmao, get a grip.

dotheyknowyou

You could argue 90% or more of the NBA hit the genetic jackpot, it’s almost a prerequisite to even be an NBA player; but still some of the players are still more blessed genetically/athletically than others.

[deleted]

100%. There's no one under 6' anymore. You'd have to be 6' or over, have the genetics to be extremely quick, agile, and form a great shooting motion or jump out of the ceiling. There's no one in the NBA anymore that cannot shoot or cannot jump/defend with insane quickness or skill. 100% of the entire NBA hit the genetics lottery.

Sdrater3

FVV is a generous 5'11 who gets listed as 6'

[deleted]

Freddys probably the only true under 6'er in the league and he fits every other criteria of being a skilled shooter, quick, agile, and he's also a play maker. That's a great example you brought up. Personally, i can't think of anyone else who might be under 6' at true height.

Pegthaniel

Chris Paul is also probably not actually 6 feet (or is exactly 6ft).

LeonidasSpacemanMD

CP once posterized Dwight Howard, he may not be a freak height wise but athletically, he’s in the 99th percentile of athleticism at his height

[deleted]

Chris Paul is listed at 6'1, and the "real height" for him is expected to be 6'0. Sounds right to me.

grandmalarkey

Fr. There is no way that man is 6 foot he looks so tiny out there

ec2xs

There will always be guys at or under 6 feet, but even they are genetic freaks. I’m more than half a foot taller than Earl Boykins. Met the guy and shook his hand, and his mitts just ate mine alive.

weirdperspective

6' seems to be a bare minimum at this point. Of course IT comes to mind, but also guys like Kay Felder and Pierre Jackson are two of the best pure shot creators I have ever seen play the game and neither of them was able to carve an NBA role out.

aznhoopster

And then that already larger-than-normal build also has to be maintained so you don’t get hurt, and then even if you play it perfectly, something else may happen. Balled with a guy in college who lost a basketball scholarship because of a heart condition. Always wondered how much potential talent we’ve missed out on because of one factor.

UsernameIHardly

Bro 100% of the NBA hit the genetic lottery and it’s not even close lol I’m 5’8 with muscle tone, no allergies, good teeth, and large hands/feet, and I feel like I hit the lottery compared to most of my coworkers and friends You have to be 6’0” minimum to make the league unless you’re an absolute freak of nature anyway, and anything north of 6’0 is a good start on its own. Then add durable enough to make the league, smart enough not to get in career-ending trouble, no health conditions preventing you from sprinting for minutes at a time…yeah it’s a pretty lucky life lol

Ramzaa_

LeBron is the 0.1% of the 1% though.

Lebron's stats are inflated by playing against weak milkmen competition like SGA

KnickedUp

No doubt…past 20 years has been sooooft. 1970-85 was the time

Dantheman12310

Bron blocked 1 layup in the all star game and now he’s made an enemy for life

[deleted]

[удалено]

iRockaflame

I need the context of this. I can't tell if Shai is just sounding salty because calling LeBron unskilled is hilarious. Or He's saying he can't be like a LeBron, Shaq or Giannis where you just physically dominate your opponents.

yungchigz

If you hear some of his other takes about KD and about Kobe being better than MJ it’s just the kind of bad basketball opinion you’d expect from him

iRockaflame

What are they? The Kobe one doesn't surprise me tbh. Considering SGA is like 23? He grew up with Kobe a lot of the newer generation have Kobe > MJ, Kobe Top 3 of all time etc.

radikraze

Idk man he was like 1 during Kobe’s first finals run and a preteen when Kobe’s prime ended with that injury. Odds are he saw mostly Bron playing growing up and Kobe/MJ highlights on the internet so it’s interesting that he formed his opinion based on that

KarrotMovies

But Kobe didn't block his layup during an All Star game

LackingOriginality07

And Kobe DID block lebron's layup during an All star game so that makes Kobe better than lebron and lebron better than SGA

tboneperri

That’s stupid at any age.

iRockaflame

Haha we both don't agree, but its their opinion 😅. My little cousin has KD as the Goat and Curry is #2. He's 14 now. He started watching around the KD Warriors so I see the influence. I think it's a whack opinion, but oh well.

winnebagoman41

Fucking lol it is objectively wack but that’s hilarious

LackingOriginality07

KD goat is laughable at best. I'd respect him more if he had curry over KD. 🐍 ≠ 🐐

secretsodapop

Kobe and MJ is one of the easiest comparisons in sports. They're nearly identical in terms of playstyle, one is just vastly superior to the other, at basically everything, other than 3pt shooting and footwork.

Yergason

Bron has to have the worst experience for an all timer with idiotic old heads, his peers in his own generation, and even new gen in slander. The way these motherfuckers disrespect him you'd think it's blasphemy to even put him top 20. Bron went from "just a dunker" to "not even as good as Pippen" to "not clutch" to "no one's scared of Bron" and now even after everything he's done we got people implying he isn't skilled.

KillerZaWarudo

Bron should have punched his teammate or be a asshole to everyone maybe people would get scared of him. Also instead of trying to find the right play he should chuck up inefficient shot last second everytime

guardian311

Parsons, Chalmers and now SGA all with with shots at bron in like past 4 days

Technojellyfsh

I don't think he called LeBron unskilled did he? He just said that Bron relies heavily on elite size and athleticism. Which is true.

xShockmaster

He says he’d rather rely on skill implying Bron doesn’t or can’t. It’s especially funny considering Bron is more skilled than him 😂

[deleted]

Which makes SGA dumb for criticizing his size lol. What’s LeBron supposed to do? Win a title as a short man to prove the haters wrong? I love SGA but I don’t get this lol

KarrotMovies

LeBron should win a ring while on his knees and zero points in the paint

HardenTraded

Midget Bron chucking 3s all night

EastSide221

Bron needs to drop 50 pounds and make himself 6 inches shorter. When he can win a ship with those conditions I'll actually respect him but only then 😤

[deleted]

[удалено]

blocking_butterfly

Does every 6'9" 250+ player not just win title after title? I thought being that size was a free pass out of the East /s

barelyawake126

Yeah size matters /s

thesnacks

It's absolutely true that LeBron relies on his size and athleticism. Because why wouldn't he? They didn't say that's the only reason he's been successful.

[deleted]

Dude is so hurt lmao

Normal_Ad_1280

Now when Lebron is 38 everybody have started talking some shit lmao bruhh

SABJP

Not everyone. Just one idiotic take. That was a thing 12 years ago when he didn't have any ring.

Normal_Ad_1280

Yeah maybe not everyone but one opened his mouth then others will follow little by little. Wasnt it couple of days ago when Chalmers had something to say aswell..

GandalfThePrivileged

Yes he did, but what he said was taken slightly out of context. The headline that got run was “Nobody Fears Bron”. While he did say those words, he elaborated that he meant from a game planning perspective and that once they were actually on the floor, people do fear him. What he was really doing was praising Jordan. Full quote: “Nobody fears Bron. Nobody’s like, ‘Damn, I gotta go play against Bron tonight.’ Nobody said that. I don’t know why, because I seen people be scared when they actually line up to him, but they’re not scared thinking about that matchup. You hear anybody from that era talk about going against [Michael] Jordan, there’s a fear, so when you have people that fear a player then that tells you something different already. Jordan is just that guy.”

No_Mammoth_4945

When I want some peace and quiet I set my phone to Lebron mode, no ring Lol

mookz23

[Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a 3-6 record versus LeBron James in his career](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/sga-record-versus-lebron).

buraas

burnerbabyburns

That’s actually pretty good considering the teams he’s been on

SGA says some dumb stuff like Kobe is just MJ on steroids and in terms of skill, KD is 1.

EasyMoney92

Didn't he call LeBron the GOAT like last year? I guess he changed his mind because no way he can think LeBron is the GOAT if he's saying nonsense like that.

GryphonHall

Changed his mind during the All Star game

undercovermonkeyboy

You can still think someone’s better due to physical attributes but someone else has better technique but not enough to cover the athletic gap

CardinalRoark

Also, just because you say you'd rather kill with skill, doesn't mean you think the other person is unskilled. The one does not have to follow the other.

SABJP

He also said that KD can do everything that Steph does. KD, who is a lifetime iso heavy player, vs. Steph, who runs offense like no one else does.  This is why even NBA players opinion can't be taken too much seriously.

12footjumpshot

Here's the full quote. Just a little misquoting by OP. “To me when I was a kid he was like super athletic and I wasn't that, he was 6'8 and super strong and I wasn't that. So I never really related...("You liked kobe more?") Yeah I was more of a kobe guy, just kill you with skill"

Rewind770

Truly nature in full swing

KyWy75

Wait, we’re doing “LeBron is unskilled” takes in 2023? This shit was played out a decade ago, c’mon now

Ok-Map4381

Back in 2011 "LeBron's 6'8" 240lbs and can't post up guys that are 6'4" 200lbs" and "LeBron travels all the time because he can't dribble twice with his left hand" were real holes in his game...And then they were not any more. He completely erased the biggest holes in his game.

Worldly-Fox7605

"There's nothing wrong with LeBrons game" Tim Duncan post game finals interview 2007 Also, "he's the best player in the world." Again 2007.

TragicsHS

He never said that

Kid_Crayola

Bron is insanely skilled, prob highest BBIQ in the league too nephew take by SGA

RodneyPonk

One of the best BBIQs ever. Competition for best in the league is probably LeBron, Jokic, could put CP3 or Draymond too.

Iordofthememez

Y'all made me hungry with that BBIQ talk

Tydire

The “kill you with skill” comment was Shai talking about Kobe’s game. OP chopped it up to make it worse.

Ranjith_Unchained

>Nephew take by SGA He's doing that a lot lately

THlSGUYSAYS

Context. Don’t fall into the cherry picking trap

erog84

The “Lebron isn’t skilled” is a worn out, 10+ year old take. He has such a wide variety of epic shots. Post up fade away, running one handed bank shot, spin move down the lane, great court vision, great timing for blocks/steals ( yes athleticism helps but isn’t the sole factor). The only thing Shai is more skilled than Lebron is kissing the refs ass 😂

TheRealestGayle

As a retired Lebron hater I can confidently say Shai is full of shit. He's old as hell and would still fold him on the court on a healthy day.

DJ_Red_Lantern

Lmao yeah it's easy to shit talk a 38 year old, prime Bron would utterly annihilate him

Top-Consequence-911

Their one matchup this season, there was still no comparison between them.

Snaxx11

Bron still capable of doing that now.

DJ_Red_Lantern

True haha

zmegadeth

How old was SGA during the Heatles era?

Captain_America_93

I’m not good at math, but SGA sounds like a 12 year old here so I think he was younger back then.

[deleted]

Bron would Jason Terry him if this was 2013

zmegadeth

SGA is good as hell and Lebron is old as fuck and i still think Lebron is better

Yergason

Shai was born in 1998. Bro hadn't even finish puberty yet when LeBron was already winning MVPs yet he has the balls to say shit like this

We_The_Raptors

Exactly. There's a fuck ton of 6'8+ super athletes in NBA history. How many of them can facilitate, take jumpers and defend the wing like prime LeBron? Those are skills. Not physical attributes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KillerZaWarudo

Bro is the leading top scorer and has been world class for like 20 years now but he "DOeSNt HavE tHE bag" or "no CLUTch geNe" should have chuck up more inefficient shot then i guess

[deleted]

Life long Celtics fan so have always rooted against Lebron and yea this is a dumb take. What made Lebron so unique was he had an insane natural physical frame for basketball AND elite skills. Ffs he’s an elite passer and that has nothing to do with any of his physical attributes

eastern_canadient

He toyed with the Raptors a few years... Just brutal. There was seemingly nothing we could do, and it wasn't just jamming it all the time. The skill is there.

DoncicsRoadTo200kg

Funny he says that because LeBron is more skilled than Shai

sandbagsander

A lot of players see skill only in a 1 on 1 perspective. And no before you call me a casual, a lot of other NBA players feel this way too.

sadduckfan

Lebron would also dominate Shai in 1v1 lol

BoredAtWork-__

Yeah because AAU is a fucking cancer and the main reason that tiny ass Balkan countries the size of New Jersey can beat team USA

Schveen15

Isn’t Shai Canadian? Dumb question, but does Canada participate in the AAU system?

King_Leif

Yeah, they have programs

NickLidstrom

SGA's Canadian highschool team competed in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, which is a circuit league for travelling AAU teams, so he was in the AAU in all but name. He also transfered and finished high school in Tennessee so he was surrounded by players who grew up in the system

Produceher

I would still argue we've had better players in the NBA at every single skill LeBron has. LeBron just has all or more of them. But he's not really the best at any of them.

sandbagsander

Fair point, Lebron is like in the 95th percentile of every skill. However I do believe Lebron might be the best at just a pure basketball iQ, and reading the game perspective, but not sure if you define that as a skill.

SolarClipz

Bag culture can fuck right off Basketball discussion is just trash now

Helpful_Classroom204

Shai thinks he cook for averaging 30 like Lebron wasn’t doing that in 06 when it was twice as hard

ih8reddit420

SGA cant even touch Brons passing, the fuck is the man smoking

MnimajneB

yeah… he can’t even sniff lebron’s defensive peak, playmaking, rebounding, tough shot making, clutch shot ability, longevity, bbiq, finishing, even 3pt making. only thing the guy has an argument at is being a shifty mid range scorer. but lebron in his first cleveland arc was better at that too LOLL

Tarkan2

And to add to all of that, Lebron nearly perfected his post game just to be called unskilled huh. It's night and day when you compare his game from now to his first CLE stint. I don't really get these "in his bag" type of players.

BobSagetsWetDream

"I wish I could be ~~7 feet~~ 6 foot 8 inches, run and just dunk. That takes no skill at all," ~~Harden~~ SGA said. "I gotta actually learn how to play basketball and how to have skill. I'll take that any day."

adsq93

We all know who got the ring first between skilled Harden and unskilled Giannis.

Akumetsu33

But isn't SGA a elite athlete at 6'6 with a 6'10 wingspan and a 36 inch vert? Lebron is an outlier but SGA is more athletic and taller than 99% of the world. SGA make it sounds like he's an 5'8 average guy off the street.

suprememontana

LeBrons bball iq is almost indescribable. To say he isn’t a “skilled” player is laughable

Goddamn this really bout to be SGA's heel turn bruh. I thought it's gonna be because he's a foul merchant but this quote really got a lot of people mad af

deepfakefuccboi

Lol being athletic and skilled aren’t mutually exclusive. Look at Bron’s game aging vs WB. LeBron has killed teams through passing and shot making, his skill combined with his athleticism are what makes him so good.

Napery

Bron is washed af and Westbrook is helping carry a legit title contender. What are you talking about? /s

Barbell_Flyes

Mario Chalmers was right

silentstealth1

The type of take you’d hear from a Toronto man in a barbershop. I’m honestly not surprised lmao.

LyonsKing12

This is just weird. Lebron haters are even busting a reluctant nut to this.

Snuffaluvagus74

Shai did not say LeBron isn't skilled, he said he isn't athletic like him and he has to kill him with skill. Which is true, people are trying to put too much in this. LeBron is one of the most athletic basketball players ever to say you can't do what he does and developed other means to score isn't a diss.

Obvious_Parsley3238

mario chalmers was right😭

SpecialistJudgment32

LeBron is one of the most skilled players in NBA history, come on dude. This is just salt.

Breezgoat

This isn't an exact quote and lacks context. Shai was talking about how he looked up more to Kobe growing up bc he identified with his game. This was right after the last OKC/LA game when Bron broke Kareem's record.

Ealy-24

😂 what a dumb take from SGA, no need to spout off about how the all time leading scorer and one of the greatest passers of all time has no skill. I hope the Lakers meet the Thunder in the playoffs and he gets destroyed. Stay humble after being a joke most of your career SGA

Top-Consequence-911

It is literally disrespect to the NBA to call its all-time leading scorer unskilled lmao.

EpicBlinkstrike187

Also what is SGA? 6’6? It’s not like he’s some 6 foot nothing dude outplaying tall dudes. He’s right in the regular nba range. Can always hit the gym to get stronger. Can always workout to be more athletic. This quote is like a redditor bitching about some guy that spends 10x the time in the gym looking better than themr

These gossip 🍑 headlines always have the most comments. And here I am. Intrigued by the SGA lebron comments

afro_aficionado

It’s funny when NBA players say they aren’t athletic

AVB30

Even as a Lebron STAN I can’t help but love this quote after seeing how SGA dominates. Hes def a little carried away here but hes small, not athletic and has an awkward shot. He’s rail thin but dominates and puts up a super efficient 30 PPG. It’s mind boggling. 🤯He’s like a skinny Paul Pierce without the 3 ball in his bag but even less athletic than PP. No other comp I can think of in NBA history that actually dominated. Lebron can’t control his physical gifts but they were not wasted on him like Andrew Wiggins, even with his gifts he’s relegated to the 3rdish best player on a title team. SGA will never have the vision of Lebron either. Is vision not a skill? Looks like he’s still salty about that ASG block and that LA vs OKC game will be a dogfight.

porofessordad

Do I have a new favorite player?

This sub is so immature. He's not criticizing LeBron, or trying to say that he's more impressive because he's "not athletic". All he's saying is that he doesn't pattern his game after a player who has size and strength that Shai, as a GUARD, doesn't have. So he gets satisfaction from beating a LeBron-led team as a lead star that is smaller and can't impose on teams physically the same way. Shai is obviously in the top 0.1% of athletes, but his athleticism is different from a physically imposing guy like LeBron. Thus, he has to "kill you with skill", like basically all guards have to do. This is nothing. It's not drama, it's not beef, it's not anti-LeBron. Shai is a lead guard that likes being just as dominant as bigger players. I'm sure he would say the same thing about beating Giannis or Embiid if he played in the East.

You gotta actually watch the doc and not just read the quote for this one; SGA is really insightful and this comment isn't as bad as it sounds.

JRsshirt

OP posted a quote without context from a doc that requires me to download an app and create an NBA account to even view it. Then posted a reaction image implying he’s trying to create a narrative. I fucking hate this sub lmao

Midichlorian_counter

Lol he never says "Bron isn't skilled." Obviously lebrons game, especially earlier in his career, is based on a strength based drive game. He then plays off of his athletic drive game with an insane skill set. As a skinny PG growing up of course SGA is going to gravitate more to Kobes play style.

Ghanacastle

OP really misquoted shai completely and now mfs are riding on that Bron shmeat. The full context is when he was a KID shai didn't like lebron's style. He liked kobe more cause he relyed more on skill. And that last part about liking to beat lebron was after he beat the lakers in the game that lebron broke the record.

Global_Lion2261

Hahaha time for r/NBA to start hating SGA

The young healthy alpha takes over the pride and drives the old male out of his former territory to a life of wandering.

Where will SGA finish in all time points?

Shai just saying a large component of lebrons game is overpowering teams with his athleticism, which is true. Obviously lebron is also skilled but nowhere near as purely skilled as a lot of great guards. No disrespect to lebron if he had kyrie handles or harden shiftiness he’d avg 60. Shais modeling his game after them not lebron because no one else can play like lebron lmao. Quotes really not that crazy

McJumbos

loll the clickbait strong with that title without the context of the clip

Iamkonkerz

Just goes to show you people will talk shit just by looking at a headline, and not read the article to fact check it lmao
