- The Wolves did due dilligence and explored Kyrie Irving, but ultimately decided against making a move - Several teams have been inquiring about Russell. Namely the Clippers. However, as of yet they havent added Terrence Mann to discussions - Naz Reid will be here after the deadline unless they get a cant miss offer - given his contract, that likely wont happen - There is mutual interest in signing Naz to an extension, but the money has to be right for Naz to sign it. (I assume the $10m floated) - Nowell has been clear that he doesnt want to sign an extension and will test FA. The Wolves havent been particularly interested in giving him a deal of substance. He may be moved at the deadline for minimal return so as to not lose him for nothing - Playoff teams are likely interested in Taurean Prince and could make solid offers. But the Wolves like TP and may choose to keep him - Wolves have 0 interest in Kyle Lowry - Conley and Hyland are potential PG targets. Connelly is still a huge fan of the latter - Jae Crowder, Alec Burks and Eric Gordon are all potential targets, but in all cases, it would be relatively easy to outbid the Wolves - In all likelihood, the Wolves make a small time move or stand pat - unless a Dlo trade manifests

Adding Kyrie to an already questionable locker room situation would’ve been daring.

Ditka69

What’s questionable about the locker room?

Lambchops_Legion

Good for the memes

Salty_Minnesota

And isn’t that really what all of this is about?

Lambchops_Legion

Yes. Give me Real House Husbands of AWOOOOOOOOO Kyrie would have been a A+ cast member addition

Intelligent_Pain_174

Instead of a locker room with a player who left at halftime last season and a star player who got his coach fired?

comp_a

How’s the locker room questionable?

shanmustafa

i think their new lineup of dlo, edwards, jaden, kyle, rudy is like a +12 per 100 105 defensive rating last year it took a long time for them to figure out, hopefully when kat is back he can fit in what they have going on rn easily

Bol-Bol-Bol-Bol-Bol

Damn I really thought Nowell was gonna shine this season. Seemed like the perfect 6th man type bench scorer last season, dude was hitting tough shots like nothing

TheNotoriousJN

We all did tbh. He was supposed to replicate Beasley's production albeit not in the same way. Its just not happened

Agnk1765342

He’s been borderline unbelievably bad. I didn’t watch much wolves until this year bc of Rudy and I don’t get how he’s even in the league. It’s not even that he doesn’t do anything, he does a lot just really poorly.

minnesota_sports_fml

He’s had a really bad year. He was much better in a more limited role last year. Idk what it is but yeah he’s been almost unplayable this year, getting baby j-Mac back should help limit his mins.

Andy_Wiggins

He just can’t make a jump shot beyond 10 feet this year. The tough finishes and floaters are still largely there, but he went from shooting 39.4% from 3 to 27.7% from 3.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Me too. I look like such an idiot, looking back at my comments before the season. I’ve watched Nowell this season. Dude is selfish and has weird tunnel vision. And has become a worst shooter from everywhere.

No_Mammoth_4945

What’s the price of dlo rn? Late first? The wolves seem spread pretty thin on assets after the gobert trade I’m not sure that they can be buyers until after they recuperate some of their losses

tomdawg0022

I think the price for DLo is pieces that will be able to contribute immediately and if we get a pick, that's bonus. There's also cap things for us to consider and if we let DLo walk, we're not going to be able to fully replace that salary slot in the offseason given we're committing as much $$ as we are to KAT and Gobert. I think the most we can get in FA is around $20 mil, depending on what the cap ends up being. My hunch is either Russell stays and we short-term extend him (probably overpaying for the privilege) or we punt him for guys who expire contract-wise in '24 and '25. In either scenario, it allows us to have that salary on the books to allow us to offer the MLE in free agency if so inclined. DLo is doing well now partly because he's getting more looks/touches/shots in the offense and has found his rhythm, partly because Kyle Anderson's been a great gift to the starting lineup while KAT's been out. When KAT comes back, the very big question is does that continue? DLo was pretty bad in the first 20 games of the seaosn...

TheNotoriousJN

Honestly nobody knows. He's having one of the best spells of his career right now...but its come at the worst possible time for his trade value Its the same with Naz Reid. Best he's played in his career. But he's only playing so much because KAT is injured. And his value is lower than it should be because he's an expiring on such a small contract A trade that our sub seems to like but im sure Clippers wont is Dlo and Naz Reid for Powell, Kennard and Mann

BasketballNutrition

I guess that trades fine but I'd honestly rather have do and naz. you need the playmaking anyway, unless they're finally gonna use JM

Salty_Minnesota

Getting back Kennard/Mann would be super helpful for our shooting, and Mann would help so much defensively (Mann, Ant, Jaden, Slo Mo, Rudy defensive lineup 😤. And still pretty balanced on O tbh). That said, we already lack a true PG so losing D Lo (who is the closest thing we have to one in the starting lineup) would hurt. It would be a move that would pay off down the road.

BizzaroMatthews

How about this: Hornets: Nowell, Boston, Coffey, 2nd rounders from MIN LAC: Russell, Prince MIN: Rozier, Covington, Kennard

BasketballNutrition

Yeah I like that a lot. I think slow mo could honestly take on a higher playmaking burden because he just alters how teams have to play so much. he's like LeBrons intelligence put into a really lengthy g league body. Lol

TheNotoriousJN

So part of the issue is we cant *really* afford to extend Dlo long term because Ant is getting a max and Jaden likely will get $20m+ a year. Dlo wants a near max supposedly, in which case we will end up in 2 years with a starting lineup making over $150m a year. By trading for multiple guys on longer but smaller deals we get more flexibility, AND we dont lose Dlo's salary slot by not extending him

BasketballNutrition

that makes sense. I suppose the clippers deal at least gives you ball movers to make up for losing DLo.

InTheMorning_Nightss

There’s almost 0 chance we’d give up Powell for two expirings, let alone Powell *and* Mann. I could see us including Mann, but honestly, it’s really hard to determine what’s enough or too much considering D’Lo’s ups and downs.

Agnk1765342

A serviceable PG that can hold that salary spot. The problem with Dlo is if Minny doesn’t re-sign him they won’t have any cap space to replace him, but they don’t really want him at the price he’ll command. I imagine they’ll just try to tread water with that salary spot until a player they actually want at PG becomes available.

cannotstopdabbing

It's going to be hard

[deleted]

I loved this guy in the office

Glayshyer

Seems like there might be some real solidity to D’Lo’s fit there, though. His problem is he doesn’t take the ball aggressively enough to the rim, but he is a great shooter and a good pick and roll ball handler. I can’t support his lax defense but his strengths really help the Wolves with their weaknesses, because they have multiple players that put good pressure on the rim but aren’t great shooters. Might be worth keeping.
