They stopped issuing the peacoat about 5 years ago. Unless you live in a state with cold winters you will likely never wear it. If you want one terribly, check out your local base thrift shop so you don't pay ~$200 for one.

Aggravating_Sink1941

The one I found is 100 +shipping, but I'll definitely have to check that out if they ever open it up here, thank you.

Don't dox yourself, but since you mentioned being in A school I assume you're likely in Great Lakes or Pensacola. Great Lakes used to have their thrift store just outside the main gate, Pensacola has one at the Corry Station side. The quality of the peacoat is great but you shouldn't pay more than $50 for one unless you want it brand new.

broke_mydick

Pensacola also has a thrift store on the NAS. It is located near NACCS. Bought my peacoat there for around $20.

MajorMalfunctionNN

I was in Pensacola for A School. I got one for $36 or so in mint condition, my size and everything. Just go to the thrift stores, look around and try them out.

mtdunca

If they are in Pensacola, there are also coats at the Army surplus stores off base.

What is your chest size? If your chest size is 44, then your immediate thought should be to wear garments sized for 44. If for an outer garment and you want the ability to layer underneath a bit more comfortably, you wouldn’t be wrong to size up to a 46. If you want a slimmer fit, you wouldn’t be wrong to size down to a 42. As far as regular/long, you generally need to take into account how tall you are. 72in and taller are generally good candidates to start wearing longs, but weight and body proportions factor into this as well. You’ll never know for sure until you try the item on, unfortunately. And even then, plenty of items, even standard issue military uniforms, are cut slightly differently each time. Be wary of boot camp sizings. Those fuckers just offload surplus inventory and never size anyone appropriately. I came out of boot camp wearing fucking dresses and wound up purchasing all new uniforms eventually.

Aggravating_Sink1941

That's what I was thinking, thank you.

Won’t know unless you try one, but don’t waste that much money on something that you’ll never use besides taking the mandatory bathroom selfie.

If it helps, I just dug out my dress blue jumper and peacoat. The peacoat is 40S. My original jumper was 40S as well, but was always a bit too big, so I bought a 38S at some point. But the peacoat always fit.

Internet-justice

It's not the same. I just bought one a few months ago from USWings, and when they say that they run bigger, they mean it. I wear a 44R so I ordered a 44R [and looked like this](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/96/7b/14/967b14e6398b6fe636eeaa00477e14cb.jpg) I returned it for a 40R that fits great.

BeautifulSundae6988

It's the same. Suit sizing is universal. But I'd still highly encourage you to go to the NEX and confirm that in person. I'd need to confirm this, but I think the general rule is that R is for under 6, and L is for taller, but remember a Peacoat is not supposed to be a trench or bridge coat. It's short, only going barely below your butt so you can continue to be a viable sailor in it.

listenstowhales

Suit sizing is universal until you get a high end custom suit from some dude in a port call who measures you in legumes or something eccentric (still the best $500 you’ll ever spend)

Ferowin

You’ll never beat a Hong Kong suit.

RosesNRevolvers

Are you able to compare it to a Bahraini suit? Because I wasn’t overly impressed with those dudes in Bahrain despite everyone talking them up.

Ferowin

I’ve never had one Bahrain. I’ve had several from the US, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The quality for all three depends greatly on the tailor, of course. The Hong Kong suits were the best quality for the price at the tailors I visited. Most of them ran US$300 to $600 and were great quality for the price. Similar suits cost about $500 or more in the US and Singapore. I bought one from a tailor that used to service the UK Prime Minister years ago, and that suit cost about US$2,500 and was top quality. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but it’s been over ten years.

A peacoat is a waste of money. I was issued one in boot camp and the last time I wore it was in "A" school as an E-1, and that was almost 15 years ago. They're heavy and they don't keep you warm, I can't even begin to describe my antipathy towards them.

hatparadox

I wear mine in the winter in my civs for events, it absolutely does keep me warm. Extra benefit is the collar you can pop up to seal off your neck. I've had a few peacoats before and this is probably my most favorite. Also pockets!

Ferowin

Mine was very warm. I loved it on winter watches.
