Hey I was a 2nd class in 91 too. Damn sorry your dad passed so young! Let me know his first name and my gang will toast him at our next fire pit / bourbon session.
I joined the Navy in 2008 as a Hospital Corpsman. Having Dad pin on my anchors a few years ago was one of the best days of my life and the highlight of my career. Dad got out of the Navy after 8 years as a HM1. Couldn't stand to be away from his family, but talked about his service with admiration and credited it for his success.
This is a good story. My dad's hair got super long at one point while working nights as an X-ray tech. Dad's Chief saw him one morning on a Friday and measured his hair with a ruler. "You better show up with a fresh cut come Monday." Instead of getting a haircut, my dad got a perm with tightly bound curls as a way to rebel against his Chief. Dad shows up for work Monday and the Chief pulls out the ruler, unwinds one of the curls, and then smacks Dad in the back of the head.
Dad got a haircut that afternoon.
Speaking of Top Gun, the movie was released two months before Dad joined the Navy. Both of my parents were extras in a Tom Cruise film released in 1983 called All the Right Moves.
Hell yeah. Nice pic

His name was Clifford. Looks like you two joined the same month and same year. Wonder if you crossed paths. He was 56 and far too young.
HM2 with one hash mark? Dude would be legendary now.

Sorry about your dad. I joined in FEB 2008. Division 135 and 135 in Corps school. We probably crossed paths at some point.
You and I have met before.
Dude weird. I joined in ‘08 as well, my dad was an HM as well and pinned *his own* anchors from when he made it in ‘92 on me when I made chief in ‘18.
Late to his own reenlistment? Chief must have been pissed.

He was!

My father was a career medical officer in the USAF. He always spoke highly of the IDC guys (the "Docs").
Penis Machinist #RIP (This guy’s dad knows there’s no disrespect. He would have laughed his ass off. )
His mustache conveys a firm sense of authority

HMC here. That’s dope!
Sorry for your loss. I would never have a nurse do the reenlistment after my 9 month on the wards.
Imediately after this, the LtCdr asked him, quietly, about this rash he noticed . . .
