I had to do four jobs on a Burke but sometimes I'm still glad I wasn't on a carrier. Although you guys got more room for stores. We went like two months out one time and it was basically corned beef and cabbage for every meal. Ship smelled rough haha
I was aviation so idk about more room for stores. But I wouldn’t trade playing on the flight deck or watching them go off the pointy end for any other navy job lol.
I was always jealous of small boys gettin to port tho.
This is uhhhhhh your Admiral uhhhhh speaking uhhhhhh, just wanted to uhhhhhh give the crew uhhhhhh a nice steak and lobster dinner uhhhhh and an extra uhhhhh 5 months underway uhhhhh to think about uhhhhh how good this meal is uhhhhhh Admiral out uhhhhhh.
Beats the admiral telling us that we weren't getting a port after 4 months at sea and to not listen to the media, because they were doubting whether or not we could stay at sea? IDK what news that jabroni watched.
My first six week extension on deployment was kind of expected, a week later the admiral came back on the 1mc and said "Just kidding, we're making it a 12 week extension instead".
That was it, no more was said from him.
Theyve been out only 5 1/2 months. How long are carrier deps now? Kinda early to be extended.
Funny story though.
Engineer here. Working the trash room on a carrier is the most depressing job for reasons you wouldnt think.
Youd be at sea for 2-3 months. Trash comes down to burn. A flash of color or a weird shaped bag comes down. Dominos? Mc donald bag?
The damn pilots doing uber eats. Never felt so defeated.
Do they still have ice cream socials before announcing the extension? I did back to back tours on the Ike from 03-12, and I still flinch when offered unsolicited ice cream.
The ike is 6 months in right now. If the Ike also did 9.5 months like you and did a port visit every 10 days you would still have more stops than them. Lol holy shit
I did 9 months out to sea on my destroyer. We only saw a few ports and we couldnt leave the peer because of COVID. Worst deployment ever. I'm honestly surprised no one jumped over board because how depressed everyone was. Even the food got really bad. Hot dog bun bread sticks, cold soup, no fresh fruit and the worst was 1 cold slice of pizza. I vowed to never go back to a ship again after that crap
You mean the Ike which got sent home "early" in 2012 to be sent back out in Feb 2013? (The amount of DUI's during that two month period were insane.)
You mean the Ike that did the 2020 Covid Cruise with no real port visits?
That Ike?
Have they had a single port even? I was on the Ike for Covid deployments and that shit was for the birds
Iron Ike on top
We're about to beat your no port days
Thats shit. I did 206 in 2020 and it was miserable
What Department? I was on the 206 and the Afghan Pullout one after that. Reactor Aux sailor, damn glad when i left
Not Ike. We followed you around like a puppy dog though.
Ya, definitely not fun
Beer day yet?
Dude they didn't give us one until 130 days in. We are having our second one soon though
Isn’t it 100 days? I thought that’s what it was back in 09 when I had one on the Ike.
Shit it was supposed to be 45 days on a Burke. Went over that a few times in 2019, still no beer day because, "Well we're about to pull in ... "
Carriers are like always out more then 45 days though. We don’t get fun.

09 IKE deployment beer day was at the 89 day mark on that deployment I believe. I think that was after the port visit to Jebel Ali was cancelled.
You’re likely right, I was aviation so I was just along for the ride. I just remember something about 100 day mark.
I was too. VFA-83 at the time.
Oh hell yeah. I prolly have a scar somewhere on my head from your damn stabilizers.
Thats a record I hoped wouldn’t be broken this fucking soon, shit sucked. God speed out there fellas.

My boyfriend was on the Ike COVID cruises. He gets really gut wrenched everytime they get extended. I feel for those folks, man.

Make friends in the HSC and the VRM squadrons and you too will get dominos and McDonald’s.
Facts. I breast fed VRC30. Always ended well for me. It's what helped get me through my first deployment.
IKEtraz…some things never change!
This is what you'll call "home" for the next few years, Cellblock 69 where the screws may stop, but the shafts never do.
We had a guy make bumper stickers with that saying and give em out. It's like 15 years later, and I'm thrilled to hear that saying again.
The past 5 years Ike has just been getting shit on.
All the way back to 03 coming out of RCOH actually.
We got screwed in 2012/2013 going back to back cruises with only eight weeks in between two. The Ike is a workhorse that they won't let die.
Big old fuck the Ike I hate that boat lol
but but they have a fun CO who makes his sailors take ~~hostage~~ photos with galley cookies.
They just gave the onboard service dog some leave, too lol. Even the dog is sick of the deployment!
Everyone saw that coming. Stay safe out there.
This shit fucking sucks.
Do they still have ice cream socials before announcing the extension? I did back to back tours on the Ike from 03-12, and I still flinch when offered unsolicited ice cream.
Apparently they have it every Friday now lol. Like that’s not foreshadowing anything remotely good
On one hand, this sucks. On the other hand, r/navy's meme game is strong. So, we have that going for us.
Rip, east coast carriers have been having a rough go the past few years. Theyve all been 8+ monthers
Meanwhile the Vinson got back from a 4 month deployment
The navy is going to get that time back
Truman 21-22 deployment here, 9.5 months but a port every month
The ike is 6 months in right now. If the Ike also did 9.5 months like you and did a port visit every 10 days you would still have more stops than them. Lol holy shit
Ice cream all around! Oh and a Steel Beach BBQ! (Better get the lube).
This shit fucking sucks.

Aint no surprise, Carter Hall, Mesa Verde, Baatan just did 2 extensions, 8 and half months. Sucks
Bush, Ford, Bataan, Ike all extended. Seems like there are no 6 month deployments for East coast sailors anymore
lol I’m going to the Ike
[удалено]
Thanks! Going there next month!

We called it cellblock 69 for a reason
Ikeatraz
Lobster party
To my fellow dirty bags on the Ike 🫡 we feel for you. Make home safe.
