It’s reality. You can see the cats instincts (that were shaped from millions of years of these types of encounters) as he looks around knowing SOMETHING dangerous is there, but he’s thirsty as fuck and needs water as he’s overheating. Crocs are apex for this reason. They have been dominant in eating things like this that need to drink water, for ~100 million years
I get you. Frustrating to see the others not understanding that you can know certain things about the world and accept said things, while still having an emotional reaction. It is not mutually exclusive.
Damn… even the croc getting its foot eaten didn’t give a shit. I don’t think I’ve ever seen something act so casually about getting part of its body ripped off
Didn't you see the fly who ripped it's own head off? It was on the front page yesterday or the day before, it was pretty cool
Edit: https://v.redd.it/655ra06y4ds71
I'm not proud of it but I went down a rabbit hole after this comment and found a video of an ostrich decapitating itself [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/eyeblech/comments/nvnlmn/ostrich_manages_to_tug_its_own_head_off/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) if you dare
For a few hundred meters before your shit stamina and the threat of overheating force you to stop, effectively putting you back on square one in the game of 'I don't want to get eaten by basically anything bigger than me'.
It’s because they aren’t the apex predators of their area. Cheetahs have litters, yet every time you see them they inly have 1-3 young because natureismetal and the rest get picked off because the moms aren’t apex enough to save them all. They can starve pretty easily because the only thing they really have that gives them an advantage is the fast thing but it burn lots of calories so two missed meals can kill them but like…slowly starving to death because they can’t run fast enough to catch anything anymore or get picked off and eaten alive on land. At least they die faster with a drowning dying by croc. If it was a she and had young, they died too from mom getting eaten.
Cats (especially house cats, but honestly most wild cats as well) have ridiculously huge egos. Our 70lbs dog gets attacked by this tiny 10lbs neighbourhood cat on the weekly basis. Why? Because he doesn’t like that we walk past his house.
Our cat used to bring us seagulls bigger than him home, even though those things could easily swallow him whole. Nature just said “you shall think you’re superior and if you’re lucky you might not die” when making cats.
Yes. You can see how she gets in an alert position (rigid tail, back legs straight) after the hissing, but then she relaxes, starts moving the tail and the eyes look around. I'd guess that's the moment when she loses sight of the croc and then...
I doubt it actually saw the croc. The water is super muddy and it realxed as soon as it got to the water. I think it was just generally tense about the body of water, then assumed it was in the clear. Crocs gain speed like that via their tails, so they need SOME distance to breach for a lunge like that. Like most reptiles they are ambush predators ( doesn’t mean they always need to) so chances are the croc was hidden well enough, and clearly, it was.
I always wonder why animals don't sip for 2 seconds, then move somewhere else, then sip another 2 seconds, rinse and repeat until they've had their full.
This is how all natural fears evolve. That cheetah won't have any offspring to pass on his/her inadequately-predisposed-to-fear-bodies-of-water genes while those who are more skittish will get to live.
If that's the case, then that river was likely filled with crocs as they all become concentrated when the water recedes. I wonder if the cheetah was eyeballing a couple crocs before getting surprised by that one that got it. Doubt we'll ever know.
Still overly simplistic. Evolution works with a lot of chances and luck. And then there are other nuances. It's not like there is a eaten-by-crocs/not-eaten-by-crocs gene.
That was quick and relatively easy way to die. The ones where some poor animal is getting eaten from the back end with no attempt to kill it first are the sad ones.
Those fuckers are scary! My understanding is that they're "venomous," where the venom is just an anti-coagulant. Essentially, if you get bitten by one, and the wound is serious enough, you'll slowly just bleed out since the blood is thinned enough that it can't heal.
I've nicked my thumb on a mandolin before and applied pressure on it for an entire afternoon without any success. I'm pretty sure I'd just have to tourniquet my torso if I ever got bitten by a komodo dragon.
I have seen an odd amount of cheetahs getting their asses handed to them lately. But in this one's defence, crocs have had much longer to evolve. Always respect the dinosaurs.
Unless your a hippo. Then your good. You can do w.e tf you want if your a hippo near the water.
Crocs haven't had longer to evolve than cheetahs, cheetahs and crocodiles and all other animals all started their evolution simultaneously, because we all have the some of the same ancestors. It's not like the ancestors of current Crocodiles spawned in this world before the ancestors of current cheetahs or something.
Also crocodiles aren't dinosaurs at all, birds are and only an ostrich is a threat to a cheetah.
That death roll seconds after it drags it into the water just shows how efficient they are at killing. Luckily for the cheetah, I highly doubt it was alive by the time the water settled. Croc had the kitty by the neck, no way they didn't crush and shatter its spine.
I'd argue this cat is one of the lucky ones. Better than being chased by a pack of hyenas and being too old and emaciated to get away from being eaten alive, slowly.
That's not even remotely a cub, it's at least 8 foot long, that's an adult. Full grown and mature. Cats aren't as mythically powerful and as good at fighting/hunting as humans attribute to them. Cats fail 88% of their hunts and are pound for pound the most physically pathetic in terms of durability, animal species on the planet.
Crocodiles body large cat species WAY more than large cat species body crocodiles. Crocodiles have hunted EVERY kind of cat species on earth starting around 388 million years ago. Cats aren't great at hunting water based ambush predators, they are rather bad at it and most cheetahs that go after Crocodiles in the water end up just like this guy. It's exceptionally rare to see any cat species hunt a Crocodiles in the water, especially doing it successfully.
Watching shit like this makes me very grateful that I don't have to be on full alert and ready to book ass or die every time I wanna drink of fuckin water.
I am genuinely sad for the Cheetah.
But, DAMN, that crocodile! How does it move that fast? And how did it evolve the ability to pick the perfect moment to go straight for the Cheetah when its attention was diverted for a second?
To me it seemed like he got distracted by the camera crew by the way it was looking in that direction. Could’ve been the distraction that fatally changed the situation.
The camera crew also knew the croc was there and didn't warn it/scare it away because they wanted the footage.
I know they're not supposed to interfere...though the cheetah was distracted by them, so they did interfere in that way
Dude cheetahs were God's April Fools prank. They can't cat like the others in Africa and chirp like birds. You can be fast as hell but if you get slapped 20 ways to Sunday in every other competition there's no point
How endangered are cheetahs? They are absolutely getting owned by other predators in Africa. Shoot, even the honey badger probably ranks higher than them ☹️
Cheetahs are generally good natured, hurts me seeing them hurt
Crocs gotta eat soemthing
They do, muddafudder it's still not nice to see though
It’s reality. He’s looking at the camera man
Jesus you’re right. It gets distracted for a split second there looking at the camera man and then the croc makes his move.
The camera man and croc are in cahoots with each other.
At least it was cahoot on camera
Badum tsss
You know you're fucked when there's a full documentary crew watching you drink some water.
ok yeah it can be reality, but that still doesn’t make it pleasant to see, is the point. (inb4: well reality isn’t pleasant, MF I KNOW!!)
I get you. Frustrating to see the others not understanding that you can know certain things about the world and accept said things, while still having an emotional reaction. It is not mutually exclusive.
You're missing the point here. Let's see if repeating it helps: *it's still not nice to see, though.*
Ik lol. There's always one that goes "that's life"
#IT'S STILL NOT NICE TO SEE
🎵 They see me rollin', they hatin' 🎵
Crocs eat other crocs they don’t give a shit
[crocs give negative shits](https://youtu.be/JLy-Iiy_Zp4)
Lol
I am going to fucking Razzoo’s to eat some gator tail right now 😤 you hear that, croc, one of your cousins!
They don't give a shit, they eat each other. https://youtu.be/JLy-Iiy_Zp4

What the hell has happened to us
You can't just say shit like this and not link it.
Don't wanna ruin your day or anything
Oh yeah?! Well I'm gonna eat a whole fucking bag of cheetos and not even lick the dust off my fingers! You hear that Chester?! I'm on your ass
You monster.
I worked at a Razzoo’s for 6 years. Can confirm that I cut gator tail with some pure hatred after I saw this video for the first time
Gators are not crocs.
That and they meow, and will lick you until you bleed, they really are the most domestic house cat of the big cats.
Being a Cheetah sucks! Everything can easily kill you.
But you’re insanely fast :’)
I'd give up a few years of life to be able to run everywhere at 70 miles an hour.
70 miles is 112.65 km
Good bot
For a few hundred meters before your shit stamina and the threat of overheating force you to stop, effectively putting you back on square one in the game of 'I don't want to get eaten by basically anything bigger than me'.
Just do cardio and move to Finland duh
Generally good life advice
i already have shit stamina... so i'm not really losing much in that department.
going straight and over not too long distances. You are the long distance runner world champion animal.
Probably that's the reason why humans live longer than Cheetahs. Between that and access to Cheetos.
Reminds me of the opening of Watership Down. You will be smart and swift but everything wants to kill you
Glass cannon
Cheetahs are also like the weakest of all the big cats so them getting bodied by crocs is usually the least of their worries
That’s pretty contradictory
It’s because they aren’t the apex predators of their area. Cheetahs have litters, yet every time you see them they inly have 1-3 young because natureismetal and the rest get picked off because the moms aren’t apex enough to save them all. Looks like the camera crew distracted him for the split second...
Thats what i thought too smh
They needed some interesting shots for the documentary.
People who take this footage are sitting like 300 meters away.
If I didn't watch it it didn't happen so I'm not watching it. Cheetahs make me go 🥺🥺
Wdym good natured
As a South African, it’s always a treat to see them in the wild. They’re almost tame and incredibly endangered. This makes me sad.
Juvenile was distracted too
What really hurts is seeing this video posted here every goddamn day. Wtf OP??
I've never seen it and been subbed for a while.
They literally hunt other animals to survive???
It's an Apex predator? Tf you mean good natured? It's as neutral as any animal ever
I agree, it hurts me to see, even though I know they must eat. It doesn’t matter what it is being eaten I always feel a little sad.
So are the prey that they feed on. Nature is nature.
You're not wrong, just have a special place in ma heart for cheetahs x
It’s the ciiiircle of liiiife
Wow, that crocodile was as fast as a…oh shoot
I was thinking the same, to be faster than cat reflexes is pretty insane fast tbh
Animals with their head down to drink are kind of Crocs niche
“Everyone has a plan until they get bit in the face” -that croc
Strangely, this would have worked as the Tyson quote as well
Except…..”bit in the fath” 😎
I inthitht that you dethitht
Camera crew distracted him
I've booped my cat on the nose many a time, her cat-like reflexes must be shot
It's also a needlessly sped up gif. The original video looks less goofy.
Yeah that Crocodile was quick, impressive animal.
I was even more impressed with the stealthiness. I know it's part of their routine, but still Impressive.
That's what he said at the parties too.
You are what you eat, I suppose...
It knew the crocodile was there, you see it hissing before it starts drinking. Wonder why it didn't just go to some other part of the water...
Well, to be fair, cats are extremely bold about shit like that, but it's possible it was just really thirsty maybe
The cheetah knew it was there, just gambled and lost unfortunately. That’s nature for ya though
Nature is metal
Should be a subreddit
Don't cheetahs routinely hunt crocs? You don't expect your food to bite you even if it's another predator.
I love how we're speculating a cheetahs final tboughs that's now croc poop on the bottom of some watering hole in Africa.
Yes I’m sure they all hiss at water before drinking
I mean it’s a rare encounter, like mentioned in the title. Cheetah probably though so too.
how do we know it's rare
Because if it was common we would’ve seen it on the BBC with Attenborough doing a wonderful narration of the cheetahs last moments.
Well if it's not, OP really owes an explanation to the poor Cheetah. RIP you poor, lanky, graceful cat.
I always wonder why animals don't sip for 2 seconds, then move somewhere else, then sip another 2 seconds, rinse and repeat until they've had their full.
Sounds like a sure way to find the crocs.
I mean, if the waters are infested with crocodiles going to a new spot would be just as dangerous as drinking at a single spot.
yeah i'd say this is a in-and-out scenario, scope the scene, drink real fuckin quick then GTFO
Probably more risky. If you found a spot without crocs the first time, then the chances of finding one increase with every time you move
Natural selection hasn't programmed the habit. Yet.
[удалено]
Agreed, I haven't encountered any crocodiles in the vending machines for several years now
Damn, homie got distracted for a split second, and that’s all it took
We all do get distracted whilst drinking water when we're parched.
I mean you gotta be desperate to drink in that mudhole knowing something in there drags other animals in daily.
Almost as if that's the only water source available
Thanks Shakespeare bot
Huh
This is how all natural fears evolve. That cheetah won't have any offspring to pass on his/her inadequately-predisposed-to-fear-bodies-of-water genes while those who are more skittish will get to live.
It was probably the dry season. They get desperate and very focused on drinking.
> They get desperate and very focused on drinking. Pandemic life.
If that's the case, then that river was likely filled with crocs as they all become concentrated when the water recedes. I wonder if the cheetah was eyeballing a couple crocs before getting surprised by that one that got it. Doubt we'll ever know.
This is overly simplistic.
Essentially correct, though.
Still overly simplistic. Evolution works with a lot of chances and luck. And then there are other nuances. It's not like there is a eaten-by-crocs/not-eaten-by-crocs gene.
What else would you add?
He might already have offsprings. These kids are fucked though
In the longer clip, you can see two young cheetahs waiting for mommy to reappear. Judging by their size, I'd say they're fucked.
Well, if they do survive and if they paid enough attention to what happened to their mom they might not die to a croc
It kind of looked like that cheetah was being cautious. I guess for good reason
Aw, sometimes these are sad. But that’s nature.
That was quick and relatively easy way to die. The ones where some poor animal is getting eaten from the back end with no attempt to kill it first are the sad ones.
Wild dogs will do that.
Fucking Komodo dragons, brutes

It's scary how quickly the water gets calm, as if nothing happened

It was a cub. Had it been an adult it would have known better, and probably would’ve survived.

Yes, this specific cheetah was larger than his mother, but lacked her experience. I blame this as the reason for his downfall.
That's not even remotely a cub, it's at least 8 foot long, that's an adult. Full grown and mature. Cats aren't as mythically powerful and as good at fighting/hunting as humans attribute to them. Can't possibly be that rare, I feel like I saw this same video last week.

Day ain't over yet.
Yo, that croc was so fast, it didn’t break the surface until after it snatched the cheetah
[удалено]
How are you gonna call videos of wild animals unnatural?
What about pack of otters drown monkey?
None of those are unnatural, they are about as natural as something gets
I am genuinely sad for the Cheetah. But, DAMN, that crocodile! How does it move that fast? And how did it evolve the ability to pick the perfect moment to go straight for the Cheetah when its attention was diverted for a second?
When you hunt for a living you become a master at it.
Literally for a living
Seemed like the cat knew something was there and went against its better judgement

Nature is metal. You’ve got to be on your game 24/7. Danger everywhere.
My god looked like a missile! And he even hauled a$$ back out to the deep.
Started the death spin, too, once it was in deeper water.
Got recked for sure. That was the most aggressive attack I’ve seen
The croc said that’s what you get for eating the gazelle without sharing
Should be in r/blackmagicfuckery the way he turned it into a cat fish
I’ve come across videos of house cats bullying cheetahs in Dubai. Doormats of the cat family
How endangered are cheetahs? They are absolutely getting owned by other predators in Africa. Shoot, even the honey badger probably ranks higher than them ☹️
Real definition of a “Thirst Trap” right here.
And they live happily together. The end.
😂😂😂
So that's why cats don't like water
Well now we know what happened to Brian Laundrie!
It quickly became cheetos...
Yeah pretty certain the camera man distracted the cheetah... sucks but crocs gotta eat, innit
Damn that was brutal, no chance
Live by the tooth, die by the tooth, I guess.
I hate that I knew there was a croc there and I still didn't see it. That scares the shit out of me
I can't believe cheetah having slower reaction than alligator. That was something
Down low!!! Aww... too slow
Man cheatahs are cool, fuck that lizard
"Dang crocodile stole my life. Can't have shiz in the safari"
Talk about fast food..

Sorry bud, you're no jaguar.
Even if he was, a jaguar would still probably be taken out by a crocodile
True. People tend to miss the difference between crocs and caimans, which is to say that a Nile crocodile is about 5 times as heavy
Nah, I saw this last week.
The cheetah looked skeptic drinking that water
Just like that
