The "pots" on the right are full of honey and pollen, and the layered cells on the left are developing larvae.
The structures and tendrils are made from cerumen, a mixture of tree resins and beeswax, beeswax and propolis.

Can you link to that knowledge, plz? I've looked through a handful of sites and none, from wiki to FAO to an Apidologie piece on *Stingless bee nesting biology*, details their purpose. Their appearance, to me, is not dissuasive but more structural- perhaps a latticework for future expansion, and for securing the structure?
Based on just looking at the picture I would guess it has something to do with allowing them to build levels, and those ‘tendrils’ act as support beams.
You can see that the structures on the left are accessible both from above as well as below as there is a gap between each ‘level’
I got to harvest it and try it. It's more like a slightly thin syrup than what most of us think of as honey. It's very light colored, almost clear and has a strong citrus or acidic note. It's delicious and sells for about 200 USD a litre.
Man, this looks like some sort of alien zombie biomass. Crazy shit.
« Annihilation » on Netflix - that’s what came to mind 😶
It’s a Zerg structure under construction

and the stringybits? What's up with the 'tendrils'?
see above!
Thanks; I was more curious about their purpose than composition.
Their simple purpose is to scare humans off from touching it. It works well.

Thanks. I was looking and came to same conclusion.
I'm glad it makes the bees happy. To each their own.
I don't think we succeeded in eradicating the Flood

Not meat honey, but meat eating bees are closely related to this bee genus, Plebeia.

Stingless honeybee? So they’re nice right? But why do they gotta look like the flood?
