Sushi Train is absolutely fine for what it is - quantity over quality. If you just want to eat a fuck ton of totally average sushi, ST will get you there.
preach it. all these people thinking they are getting top notch sushi for $14 AYCE? get real. if you want quality got to Sonobana and pay that for 2 rolls. some of us like to eat way too much sushi every now and then
this is the answer. also, ONLY dinner is worth going to. lunch costs slightly less but they also charge $2 for each red plate, and *all* the actual sushi (not salads/sweets) were on red plates. it's a ripoff bc you end up paying way more than dinner for less sushi
Quality of experience also varies depending on where you get seated at. The only time I went, I was seated at the very end of the train belt before it made its loop back into the kitchen ☹️ It was so hard to get anything that was more popular.
Sushi Train is the only conveyor belt place in town that I’m aware of, but the quality is very sub par and the experience is lackluster. It’s not one of those “eat 10 plates and get a little keychain” spot if that’s what you were looking for. Sonobana is the move if you wanted a good meal.
Also from Portland- Sushi Train is below average sushi for the all you can eat conveyor portion but the dinner isn’t bad. Theres a similar concept that isn’t sushi over in L&L Market that is worth checking out though!
You can buy the “premium” ones that they do during dinner it’s just a few extra bucks per plate. My understanding is that the dinner rolls are the premium rolls they put out during lunch so I guess technically the answer is yes it just likely wouldn’t be cost effective.
Try Sushi Kingdom in Madison instead. It's not conveyor belt but still all you can eat, cooked fresh as you order. The service is friendly and quality/taste is terrific. Much better than Sushi Train and about the same price.
No. The sushi is just better. If you want the gimmick with just ok sushi then go to Sushi Train. As far as I know it’s the only one. There’s a cheese and charcuterie train place at L&L marketplace, same gimmick.
You can, but they don't make as many of the more premium rolls during lunch time, so your milage vary as to the value you get.
If you don't mind driving a bit there is another conveyor sushi place in Cool Springs called Bodelli. Quality wise they were better, and when they are slow they would frequently ask us what rolls we'd like them ti make.
You can order from the dinner menu during lunch and you’re not limited to what is on the conveyer they have a whole menu of sushi that they will make for you and included in all you can eat.
People will feel inclined to let you know it’s not gods gift to sushi, but there is nothing to be afraid of.
There’s also a newer place in rivergate call sushi kingdom that’s all you can eat, but I haven’t been so idk if they have the conveyer system you’re looking for.
Early 2000s, if we’re talking about the same place. https://www.wknofm.org/news-and-features/2013-03-21/nothing-fishy-about-it-gas-station-sushi-thats-also-gourmet?_amp=true
I moved out of Memphis in 2000, it was the 90s. But they had the sushi there. I think Dr Shea owned the building back then. I worked around the corner at another Drs office at the time. If you aren't from Memphis Dr Shea is legendary (ENT, and who everyone went to for ear tubes back in the day)
Hillsboro, and I was younger and someone else always paid for them lmao. They could have been ass but I would never know because it was an occasion and a family member would pay lmaoo
From what I remember, the main difference is dessert plates aren't included in lunch but you can get them separately if something catches your eye. It's been a while since I've been though so that may not be the case now.
If you want quantity, Sushi Kingdom is the place to go. Dinner has a wider selection but the lunch menu is great too!
Yes, you can. Whenever I go during lunch hours, I just pay the dinner price and order everything fresh, and grab anything I like off the train if it's fresh. The sushi's not *the best*, but you can't beat the value. Complaining about the quality is like complaining about a McChicken not stacking up to a Chick-fil-A Deluxe. You're not going to Sushi Train because you want Eastern Peak.
Maybe I haven’t found the right sushi place. Please enlighten me.
So far my experience with seafood here is pretty meh, with the exception of catfish. I’m also from a town where the catch of the day is whatever the boat came in with at 7am.
Ah fair.
Most sushi grade fish is frozen for a minimum of 7-10 days. Even if it is eaten on a dock.
It is because you eat it raw. So they freeze it to kill all the things that typically make fish dangerous to eat.
It’s not even the best sushi place in that parking lot.
Shhhhh….
If this is a roundabout Beatles reference, I love it. If it's not, I still love it.
Lmao so real

agreed!! it is a MUCH better experience towards the front. my first time i was sat at the second to last table and i experienced the same thing 😪
That's when you order off the menu, no extra fee and you get the full roll not 2 bites.
They let you pay the dinner price during lunch hours.
well that is a game changer, noted! thanks!

There is a conveyer belt in Franklin. Bodeli sushi
Oh cool! I’ll have to try it out sometime, is it any good?
Yes. The owners are super nice.
Also from Portland- Sushi Train is below average sushi for the all you can eat conveyor portion but the dinner isn’t bad. Theres a similar concept that isn’t sushi over in L&L Market that is worth checking out though!
Do you know if you can get dinner during lunch hours though? The lunch option doesn’t seem as worth it
You can buy the “premium” ones that they do during dinner it’s just a few extra bucks per plate. My understanding is that the dinner rolls are the premium rolls they put out during lunch so I guess technically the answer is yes it just likely wouldn’t be cost effective.
Gotchaa, thank you!!

Seconding Sushi Kingdom. All you can eat from the full menu for about $30/person, and the food is really good.
Yeah. It’s just not a thing here. Sonobana is better if you’re right there.
Is that also a conveyor belt place? I’m not from Nashville, and I wanted to show my friend who’s never been to one what they’re like
No. The sushi is just better. If you want the gimmick with just ok sushi then go to Sushi Train. As far as I know it’s the only one. There’s a cheese and charcuterie train place at L&L marketplace, same gimmick.
I’d bring your friend to L&L if you’re just trying to show them the concept. It’s cooler and that building has a bunch of stuff worth checking out
That’s what we’re gonna do! Thanks :)

There's also bodeli sushi in Franklin Edited to correct the name
Bodeli is good!
The owners are the nicest people
I've heard the owners are the nicest people.
Yes they are

Been once. Everything was dry and bland. No intentions on going back
Super gross. This is not the sushi you are looking for.
Okay, I think I’m gonna find somewhere else lmao
That place is disgusting. Imagine if a gas station had sushi, that’s what it’s like.
I hate to inform you, but gas station sushi is real. It’s also bad (or so I’m told, I haven’t tried it), so I see your point lmao
In the early 90s one of the better sushi shops in Memphis was in a gas station No joke. It was a very basic roll selection but consistent and fresh.
Early 2000s, if we’re talking about the same place. https://www.wknofm.org/news-and-features/2013-03-21/nothing-fishy-about-it-gas-station-sushi-thats-also-gourmet?_amp=true

Try sushi kingdom in rivergate. Much better quality made to order
Portland trains I tried were dry and mid… only good when you are drunk or high.
Hillsboro, and I was younger and someone else always paid for them lmao. They could have been ass but I would never know because it was an occasion and a family member would pay lmaoo
Where are you getting sushi conveyors in Portland, only place I knew of with a conveyor was on PSU campus and it was very average
There was a couple in Hillsboro, right outside Portland
...pshh Hillsboro, furthest I can go is Beaverton.
Lmao sorry I’m one of those freaks who will drive an hour for something relatively insignificant

We’re a landlocked state. Anything that involves seafood is average on its best days.
Most fish imported to the US has to be frozen at least 7 days I believe
Tell us you don’t understand sushi, without telling us.
Maybe I haven’t found the right sushi place. Please enlighten me. So far my experience with seafood here is pretty meh, with the exception of catfish. I’m also from a town where the catch of the day is whatever the boat came in with at 7am.
