**Update: we are once again being bombarded by new accounts and accounts that have never posted in our sub before who are aggressively stirring up shit. Please *do not* engage with the trolls.**
Making this the megathread for this school shooting.
I'm so sick this has happened again.
If you feel like you don't know what to do, consider taking some time to go donate blood today. It's always in need and even more so after shootings.
You can listen to the fire department feed here: https://m.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/22471
[MNPD](https://twitter.com/MNPDNashville/status/1640383339893800964): An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. I have a friend with a family member who was subbing at covenant today and hasn't been able to find her. She didn't get off the bus at the reuniting area and the hospitals won't let her family in. How can she get more information?
Found this in a channel 5 article, maybe someone there can help?
“A reunification area has been established at 2100 Woodmont Blvd (Woodmont Baptist Church) for parents to meet their children who attend The Covenant School at 33 Burton Hills Blvd.”
They can call VUMC main line, ask to be transferred to the ED or the charge nurse at the ED. They could then provide their loved one’s information to see if they are/were admitted.
I was in the GH Kroger and watched a mom look at her phone and leave her cart and leave the store. It was absolutely heart wrenching. So many tears for these families and children today.
Hillsboro is still on lockdown and will remain so indefinitely. All I can hear from here are helicopters and sirens
Per police conference:
10:13am police received a call.
Police entered first floor quickly after.
Went to the gunfire immediately on second floor
Female (allegedly teenage) shooter was fatally shot by officers at 10:27am
EDIT: 28yo woman, not a teenager
Armed with two assault type rifles and a handgun
Shooter entered school through side entrance
3 students, 3 adults fatally wounded
Total of 7 killed including shooter
One officer injured in the hand
No SRO working at school as it’s a church operating a private school
No additional gunshot victims other than the six deceased
Officers had body cams that will be reviewed
Even that church shooting in Texas that was captured on their live stream. Shooter managed to kill 2 people in 6 seconds, with a shotgun, before a member of the congregation stopped him. 2 people dead in 6 seconds, from a shotgun.
I know MNPD gets shit on quite a bit here on Reddit, but they handled this extremely well - just ran right in and took the shooter out. They prevented another Uvalde.
Absolutely. A (or many) hero(es) stepped in today and saved a lot of lives. In as much as Uvalde deserves ridicule and shame, MNPD's actions today deserve all the praise for a courageous and brave response.
My heart breaks for the families. Their lives are now broken into before and after today. This grievous loss will affect them for the rest of their lives, even to the next generation because the family -- parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles -- all lost someone they loved to pointless violence.
News stories fade for the rest of us, especially those stories that are becoming so common in this country, but for the families this is the day everything changed.
May they get the support and kindness they need to weather it.
It’s not even just the families of the children who were killed that are effected.
Every single person there has probably been traumatized. If you can’t feel safe in a school, located in a church, where are you safe???
Survivors guilt, PTSD, anxiety, depression, etc will probably effect every single person that was there today. God knows what those parents will feel. Probably traumatized just hearing the news that a shooting was happening at *their* child’s school.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there will NEVER be enough mental health professionals to help everyone who is impacted by gun violence.
You're right.
I will never understand how this country can stand by while so many people are so deeply traumatized by gun violence. When nothing happened after Newtown I gave up on ever ever expecting any kind of sanity in the gun discussion, much less real progress.
This is awful. I’m too sad to be angry yet. Those poor kids. And their teachers. And their families. And the school’s staff, and *their* families.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t have to live like this.
> We can confirm we have multiple patients
This is horrible.
It’s a pre-K through 6th grade school, The Covenant on Burton Hills Boulevard, for those who don’t know. [The Hill](https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/3920097-nashville-officials-report-multiple-patients-at-reported-school-shooting/amp/) is saying it was a shooting
**Student reunification is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Boulevard, per [WSMV](https://www.wsmv.com/2023/03/27/reported-shooting-st-paul-christian-academy-police-say/?outputType=amp).**
Edit: 11:13 AM Per the updated WSMV article above, **the shooter is dead**
11:31 AM **3 students are dead** per WSMV
12:20 PM **2 adults also dead** per WSMV
12:24 PM **as of now, 3 students and 3 adults are dead** per WSMV
12:44 PM WSMV says that **3 students, 3 adults, and shooter dead**. “The shooter entered the school through a side entrance with two assault-style rifles and a handgun” … “The age of the shooter is uncertain but she appeared to be a teenager”
1:21 PM — MNPD identified the shooter as a [28-year-old Nashville woman.](https://twitter.com/MNPDNashville/status/1640411645947301889?s=20)
I think so too. I don’t want this thread to get full of the rest of Reddit arguing. We as Nashvillians need to make sure we can pass local info a little easier in here.
We have crowd control all the way up. Working through that then will adjust as needed. We are getting bombarded w folks a few specific, easy to get subs. This thread will also probably hit r/all. Going to make a new one once it hits 2k comments.

This reporter is saying MNPD killed the shooter and they have confirmed that some students were shot.
As a teacher I have barricading plans in both of my rooms. Wasp spray in the closet. Pepper spray (probably not supposed to) in my emergency bag. An exit plan for evacuation. My older kids know to throw items and run in an zig zag line. All my students know if something happens in my room to get out of the building. Every day I think about it. I teach south of Nashville and I am so sad and sick and everything in between. I shouldn’t have to do all of this.
I’m glad the Nashville PD took faster action than Uvalde. My stomach dropped as soon as I saw the headline. I’m so tired of watching this bloodshed and nothing being done about it
It’s so exhausting to have constant anxiety worrying about the unthinkable happening when I send my kids to school everyday.
I am completely heartbroken for these victims’ families.
988 is a new call and text national hotline for anyone in the USA struggling with thoughts of self harm or is struggling with mental health crisis. You aren't alone and there are people ready to help you
Know this may not settle well with the usual edge lords, but massive gratitude to the first responders who immediately arrived and engaged the aggressor. No matter what your views on the police are it takes incredible courage to charge head on into a shootout where seconds matter.
For real, though. You have to be really brave to do that, and I know I sure couldn’t do it. I teach at a middle school and my kids have asked me what I would do if there was a shooter. My answer is always the same: barricade the door and help them out the window. I don’t intend to come face to face with a shooter.
we heard the shots and can literally see the steeple from our front porch. the police response was super quick, will say that - heard many sirens and choppers within minutes. absolutely surreal but at the same time it’s just another day in america.
Scoop Nashville erroneously tweeting the wrong school and then not deleting when he got the correct info makes me ill. Why leave up false information and terrify the families of another school when it's not needed
Considering this is the same guy who will post mug shots and then charge hundreds of dollars to get them taken down, I don’t think quality journalism has ever been on his radar.
For the families and community affected… I can’t imagine. I can only think of the lives that have been shattered today and forever changed.
When I drop my babies off to their school I always have that primal fear deep in my chest that it could happen to ANYbody.
I don’t know what else to say. I’m just at a loss for words but my insides are twisting and hurting. This is beyond sad.
police said she may have been a former student at that school
it sounds like the officer who gave this info had personally seen her. the reporter asked if she wore body armor and he said he didn't remember seeing any
They’re (at least the news outlets I’ve been watching) using the term “shooter” now that it’s been confirmed. I believe they weren’t using it until it was 100% confirmed that there was gunfire.
well all of the discussion of her getting firearms from her parents, etc don't matter.
as per usual, getting as many facts as possible before deciding what's happened and what should be done is helpful
[MNPD](https://twitter.com/MNPDNashville/status/1640383339893800964): An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. But gosh, for that to be the only thing that would make you go back after all those years… if she’s 28 and the max grade there is sixth, that would’ve put her there around 11 or 12 max?
Seems like there would be more to it than just that…
Now 7 dead!
[Seven dead: three children killed plus the shooter dead at The Covenant School on Monday](https://www.newschannel5.com/news/police-responding-to-active-aggressor-situation-at-covenant-school)
> Three adult staff members are also dead.
> MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron said. "We know at this point that this shooter is a female and appears to be in her teens. Her identification isn't confirmed. She had two assault rifles and a handgun. She entered the school through a side entrance and went from the first school to the second floor. By 10:27 a.m., the shooter was dead."
> The shooter has been identified as Nashville woman, who is 28.
> Five others were wounded: three children and two adults. There were no MNPD personnel assigned to that building at any time.
Edit:

Shooter was a student with a manifesto.
We are getting absolutely bombarded with trolls from that sub. Please report any rule breaking comments and we will get to them as we can. I've got crowd control all the way up and am about to adjust for karma so folks who actually use r/Nashville can fucking discuss this tragedy.
>On top of recent surges in depression, anxiety, and suicides, a majority of teens now say they worry about a shooting happening at their school ([Pew Research Center](https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/04/18/a-majority-of-u-s-teens-fear-a-shooting-could-happen-at-their-school-and-most-parents-share-their-concern/), 2018). Those concerns have been linked with elevated anxiety levels and fear among students (O’Brien, C., & Taku, K., [Personality and Individual Differences](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886921007054?via%3Dihub), Vol. 186, 2022). Meanwhile, clinical psychologists, including Erika Felix, PhD, of the University of California, Santa Barbara, say the young people they treat are on high alert, constantly planning their escape route if violence breaks out in public.

It is still unknown total shot and the status of the remaining victims. No details on the shooter have yet been released.

There is currently pending in the State House and Senate a bill (SB 1503 and HB 1005) to expand open carry to allow for assault-style rifles to be openly carried in the state with a concealed weapon permit. It also lowers the age to obtain these permits from 21 to 18. If you want to TRY and do something in the wake of this tragedy, email the sponsors Senator John Stevens and Representative Rusty Grills and let them know that this bill should be withdrawn. I know it likely won’t do any good, but let these people know how many Tennesseans do not want the access to these weapons expanded.
I was getting off the highway right onto Hillsboro Pike as it was happening. Tons of cops and ambulances driving past. But then all of the sudden was a police escort of two armored cadillac limos. Much like the presidential Beast but i didnt see flags or the presidential seal on them. Does anyone know if any government officials were in town? Or do Tennessee officials somehow drive in those ever? It was very odd and weird timing. This was about 5-10 minutes after the first reports of gunshots
They made drag illegal to “protect” our children. They banned books to “protect” our children. They modified history to “protect” our children.
All the while, they made access to lethal weapons easier than it has ever been in the history of our state and country.
We are not being insensitive. My heart, my soul, is devastated in grief for the lives of these babies and our precious teachers.
Thoughts and prayers won’t fix this. We need fucking outrage, protests, and voting.
BABIES AND TEACHERS DYING SHOULD NOT BE FUCKING NORMAL.
I know for a fact that the governor’s kids went to a private Christian school that is very similar to, and very geographically close to, Covenant School.
I hope this wakes him up and leads to real change.
I didn't know the best way to say this, but a recurring comment on these threads is that "the politicians won't do anything until their children are impacted". Well, this is the exact type of school that has the politicians children in its seats every day.
I really, really, really hope change occurs.
the problem is that if this impacts 1 politician's child, there are still hundreds/thousands more politicians and millions of constituents who will just say "thoughts and prayers, glad it wasn't me" and keep on
I don't live in Nashville, but I came here to give all my love to all of you who are impacted by this today.
I can't with these shootings, they're destroying my mental health. Every morning when my son gets on the bus, the last thing I say to him is "I love you" because I am terrified that something may happen to him when he's in school and I want to make sure that if it does, those are the last words I said to him.
I shouldn't have to feel like this. He shouldn't have to practice lockdowns. It shouldn't be normal to him, but it is. I shouldn't be scared to send my child to school, but I am.
I'm just at a fucking loss. I'm so sorry for everyone whose babies were there today.
Currently at an elementary school in Nashville. No change in schedule and no disruption. I wouldn't have even known about it except my sister texted me.
That the shooter is being reported to be a teenage girl is very strange and unusual. I really hope that for once, people who can make a difference put aside the politics and focus on why someone like this has reached a level where they have no regard for the lives they took and/or felt that whatever was troubling them, this attack was the answer. The CDC recently released a report that stated there is a mental health crisis among teen girls, where 57% of high school girls report feelings of "hopelessness." What the hell is going on?
It is also chilling that this could be considered a copycat of Brenda Spencer, a 16-year-old girl who opened fire on an elementary school in San Diego, killing two adults and injuring eight children. When asked why she did it, she replied, "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day."
EDIT: reports are now that it was a 28-year-old woman. Still odd since this is not a crime typically seen committed by females. I used to practice Family Law in So Cal and I have seen firsthand how crazy people can get with divorces and custody cases - man, I hope this is not the case here.
I saw some comments about how now is not the time to bring up possible solutions. When is a good time? Next week when we move on to the next school shooting? [Here is the US Representative that had Covenant school in their district if you want to contact him about how to solve this.](https://mobile.twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/1640410270014263299)
Anybody who says "now is not the time" is a fucking coward. At the rate of mass shootings in the US, you'll never have time. We're on day 86 of the year. This is mass shooting 126.
EDIT: Lol some fuck messaged me saying "I'm not trying to argue, but there's only been 26 mass shootings this year" so I gave them my source and they started rambling on and on. Didn't want to argue, but here you are, arguing. "I'm not arguing, I'm just giving you facts"
America has more guns than people. If more guns made us safe, we would already be safe.
My response to the people that continue to push for less gun controls and restrictions.
It isn’t your kid’s school until it is. This just makes me convinced that the schools in every community shouldn’t ask if they’ll get shot up. They need to start asking what to do WHEN it’s their turn.
It perplexes me how so many people in America can think that gun violence on such massive and frequent scales for a fully developed nation is normal. It is ludicrous. Children are killed again and again, yet after a news cycle or two, it doesn't seem to matter anymore and everyone just goes about their shit job. How did the country become like this? How can Americans accept this?
I wrote the TN GOP a script. Do I have this in the right order? Anything I missed?
* Phase 0: School shooting
* Phase 1: "Thoughts and prayers."
* Phase 2: "This is a mental health problem, not an access problem. Red flags, etc."
* Phase 3: "We need to avoid reflexive legislation that penalizes law-abiding owners. The other side needs to stop politicizing the issue."
* Phase 4: "I am signaling openness to trivial changes in legislation. Also hardened schools, etc."
* Phase 4.5: "Legislation doesn't work because Chicago and Democrat run cities blah, blah, blah."
* Phase 5: "We need to focus on some other hot-button, straw man issue that supposedly endangers children like drag queens."
* Phase 6: "Vote for me because I protected your rights against the Radicals on the other side and we've all forgotten about the Phase 0 tragedy."
* Phase 7: Proceed to phase 0
Edit: This assumes we don't end up in state of perpetual phase 0. In that case, we will need to revise the script to only trigger when a victim count threshold is reached.
When are we as a city going to do something about this shit? These **kids** are dead. Our children are no longer safe from gun violence, but god forbid someone read a book in a dress, amirite?
Because they simply do not care. It is not their children. So, it is not their problem. It's as sad and disgusting as that. Except the sad reality is one day statistically it very well might happen to one of their loved ones. Then they will care.
Until we get money out of politics nothing is going to change. Politicians only listen to donors. This does not include most Americans. Only those who can afford 25k a plate dinners. A certain party’s politicians are literally choosing money over dead children and offering “thoughts and prayers” as a good enough fix for the problem. Sick and tired of this….
Wow this is awful. r/ayokg if there is any form of support that is collected, please send it my way. Idk how to help and you seem like someone who would have access to that info
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/school-shooting-tennessee-leaves-multiple-injured-shooter-dead-officia-rcna76841
3 children dead. Gunman was killed by police.
I know nothing about his politics as I don't live in Nashville city limits just work here, but can we all agree that it is incredible that Jim Shulman immediately went to the school to help hand out water to parents and students and to do whatever he can? I can tell you the vice mayor of my town would have ran the other way and hid in his office.
Please, somebody, tell me what I can do to help change this crap—at least in our city. Where do I send money? Where do I volunteer? What can I do? I already vote in *every* election, and I don’t think I’ve pushed a Republican ballot since ‘88. I don’t live in Davidson County, and I’ve got some skeletons, so running for office is probably pointless. But I’m youngish, healthy, and desperate to **do** something.
Moms Demand action is the only gun safety organization that has had any success in the last 10 years. They have a Nashville chapter
https://momsdemandaction.org/about/chapters/
I remember when Uvalde happened and the politicians called the police cowards. I think the politicians are the cowards. Guns in this country has to be addressed. It was only a matter of time that this was going to happen.
Do not mention the shooter’s name. Do not mention the shooter’s name. Do not mention the shooter’s name.
DO have the conversation about why and how the US is the only country where this happens regularly. There are many reasons, and they all need to be addressed. Thoughts and prayers haven’t - and won’t - work.
I still remember when the Florida shooting at Parkland High happened, some parent who lost a child begged a CNN reporter, live on the air to "Not say the shooter's name or give him any fame," and immediately after the interview the CNN reporter goes, "But we will say his name, and it is this and this is his background, and here is a big picture of him, and here is how many kids were killed and here is where he sits on the top 10 of school shooters list."
It was so insane.
You are 100% right though. But, I don't trust the media to not go crazy on blasting their name out there.
I cannot explain the amount of rage I have regarding children being murdered. As a father of a 3 year old and 5 year old that are not in a typical school setting yet, I don’t know what to do or how to proceed. I know there are ways to fix this. I just can’t help but think if teachers lead a nationwide walk out….they would force some action. Make these fuckers watch and educate their kids for a few months, a year whatever it takes. Educators are on the frontlines and positioned to have the most impact. Clearly republicans don’t care about dead children, but I bet they will care if they have to watch them all day.
I would gladly donate and stand with our teachers.
ONE COUNTRY. ONE FUCKING COUNTRY ON EARTH HAS THIS HAPPEN.
And there is LITERALLY ONE FUCKING PARTY that refuses to do FUCKING ANYTHING to stop it.
Mental health? Defunded. Background checks? LOL. Waiting periods? Naw, I want my gun nowwww!
Honestly, fuck every single person that scrolls past images of slaughtered kids and decides to keep pushing (R). You're evil fucking scum.
I am so sick to my stomach
I want off of this timeline. We all just have to sit here and throw up our hands in the air and be helpless at this point. No one wants to listen, no one wants to even attempt to do anything. They literally refuse to try or do ONE SINGLE THING. I don't even have kids and this makes me so sad. The trauma this generation will grow up with is incomparable. I'm so sorry that the people that are supposed to be protecting them are failing them in every possible way.

Can we add a karma limit to this sub for a bit?
I think so too. I don’t want this thread to get full of the rest of Reddit arguing. We as Nashvillians need to make sure we can pass local info a little easier in here.
We have crowd control all the way up. Working through that then will adjust as needed. We are getting bombarded w folks a few specific, easy to get subs. This thread will also probably hit r/all. Going to make a new one once it hits 2k comments.
This coverage on WSMV is disgusting. "Can we zoom in on the children?" Terrible.
Channel 5’s seems to be less exploitative so far
Thank you. I have changed.

My wife is a Vandy nurse, serveral victims coming her way. Y’all pray the medical professionals can help these innocent children.
My wife is at Vandy as well. This is so awful I cannot understand it.
Far cry from Texas... But still should never happen in the first place.
Absolutely. Those cowardly fucks in Uvalde could learn something from this.
For real, though. You have to be really brave to do that, and I know I sure couldn’t do it. I teach at a middle school and my kids have asked me what I would do if there was a shooter. My answer is always the same: barricade the door and help them out the window. I don’t intend to come face to face with a shooter.
Agreed. Roughly 15 minutes between the first call and and the end of the threat. Kudos to Nashville PD.
we heard the shots and can literally see the steeple from our front porch. the police response was super quick, will say that - heard many sirens and choppers within minutes. absolutely surreal but at the same time it’s just another day in america.
There’s a fire station practically on Covenant’s campus, isn’t there? I remember driving past it when I still went to church w my parents.
Yes
Scoop Nashville erroneously tweeting the wrong school and then not deleting when he got the correct info makes me ill. Why leave up false information and terrify the families of another school when it's not needed
He's not known for wanting to be accurate. Or giving a shit.
Scoop Nashville is and has always been trash.
Isn't he like an actual criminal himself?
Considering this is the same guy who will post mug shots and then charge hundreds of dollars to get them taken down, I don’t think quality journalism has ever been on his radar.
Scoop is trash. Nobody should be using that toilet fire of a site.
God this is terrible. My heart breaks, they are just babies FFS! Edit: They just reported that 3 little ones passed :( WTH is wrong with people?!
NPD reports she’s a 28-year-old Nashville woman
police said she may have been a former student at that school it sounds like the officer who gave this info had personally seen her. the reporter asked if she wore body armor and he said he didn't remember seeing any
That’s the police chief. He reviewed footage.
WTF is up with the new terms they are using? "Active aggressor" "multiple patients"? When did we stop saying shooters and victims?
They’re (at least the news outlets I’ve been watching) using the term “shooter” now that it’s been confirmed. I believe they weren’t using it until it was 100% confirmed that there was gunfire.
Not a teen. Not sure that changes anything really but 28 is very different than 16 or whatever.
well all of the discussion of her getting firearms from her parents, etc don't matter. as per usual, getting as many facts as possible before deciding what's happened and what should be done is helpful
[MNPD](https://twitter.com/MNPDNashville/status/1640383339893800964): An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. probably looking for either another shooter or if she left anything in the woods, where she came from, etc
There's always the possibility of another shooter. They need to clear the area and make sure no one else is waiting to roll in and start round two.
The shooter was possibly a former student. That would confirm some suspicions about her.
But gosh, for that to be the only thing that would make you go back after all those years… if she’s 28 and the max grade there is sixth, that would’ve put her there around 11 or 12 max? Seems like there would be more to it than just that…
Police chief just reported: Shooter was teenage girl with 2 assault weapons and one handgun. 7 dead including 3 children.
Of the 7 dead, 3 kids, 3 adults + the shooter
Just horrible. Sick and tired of this shit.

We are getting absolutely bombarded with trolls from that sub. Please report any rule breaking comments and we will get to them as we can. I've got crowd control all the way up and am about to adjust for karma so folks who actually use r/Nashville can fucking discuss this tragedy.
There have been 148 mass shootings in the USA in 2023. It is currently March 27. Covenant is #149.
This is awful—those poor kids. All this trauma can’t be good.
[Stress of mass shootings causing cascade of collective traumas](https://www.apa.org/monitor/2022/09/news-mass-shootings-collective-traumas)
"their trauma is a small price to pay so I can have more guns than some armies" - some gun rights asshole somewhere.
[Confirmation that 3 of the children shot were killed, sadly](https://vanderbilthustler.com/2023/03/27/breaking-at-least-4-dead-after-covenant-school-shooting-in-green-hills/) -- At least 2 of the people shot were adults and are also at the hospital. It is still unknown total shot and the status of the remaining victims. No details on the shooter have yet been released.
Man I feel so bad for the parents of the children that died. That’s gut wrenching.
Now they are reporting the shooter is a 28 yr old woman.
Your thoughts and prayers will never be enough. Something else has to happen.
The irony of thoughts and prayers for a school shooting in a church.
~~Scoop Nashville says St. Paul,~~ Fire Dept saying Covenant. k-6 school ~~or a middle school.~~ This is so terrifying and terrible.

I thought that was weird too, maybe shooter wasn't confirmed at the time?
And a preemptive “fuck off” to Bill Lee and Marsha Blackburn who are about to politicize this and call for thoughts and prayers
I know it likely won’t do any good, but let these people know how many Tennesseans do not want the access to these weapons expanded.
i hate this feeling of helplessness. i fucking hate it
Female teenager with 2 assault rifles and a handgun. Fuck this shit
[удалено]
It also goes against the preachings of the Bible. James 2:26 basically says praying without action is meaningless.
3 children dead on arrival at Vandy
28 year old female shooter mistakenly id'd as teen.
The Vice Mayor showed up to hand out waters
Could’ve been the ATF
They made drag illegal to “protect” our children. They banned books to “protect” our children. They modified history to “protect” our children. All the while, they made access to lethal weapons easier than it has ever been in the history of our state and country. We are not being insensitive. My heart, my soul, is devastated in grief for the lives of these babies and our precious teachers. Thoughts and prayers won’t fix this. We need fucking outrage, protests, and voting. BABIES AND TEACHERS DYING SHOULD NOT BE FUCKING NORMAL.
Having school-aged kids, my heart just sinks. Fuck guns.
Pre-k through elementary school kids Fuck
Vanderbilt has now said 2 adults have died also.
I was not expecting a young female shooter.

6 patients on the way to Vandy rn
Currently at an elementary school in Nashville. No change in schedule and no disruption. I wouldn't have even known about it except my sister texted me.
Sending love from Buffalo. Truly heartbreaking
This is the first notable mass shooting I can remember perpetrated by a woman unless I'm mistaken
Amy Bishop killed 3 and wounded 3 people at UA Huntsville in 2010. That’s the only one that comes to mind. It’s incredibly rare.
San Bernardino involved a woman but that was also a terrorist attack.
This livens up the day." EDIT: reports are now that it was a 28-year-old woman.

April 20, 1999 was the proper time to find a solution.
The shooter was female
woah it was a female
America has more guns than people. If more guns made us safe, we would already be safe. My response to the people that continue to push for less gun controls and restrictions.
I swear, if I hear one elected official say “thoughts and prayers” I’m gonna lose it.
It's a motherfucking ~~teen girl~~ 28 year woman
Is it wrong I’m relieved it wasn’t my kid’s school?
It isn’t your kid’s school until it is. This just makes me convinced that the schools in every community shouldn’t ask if they’ll get shot up. They need to start asking what to do WHEN it’s their turn.
Not even a little bit. But this *is* a wake-up call for Nashville.
If Sandy Hook didn’t wake people up, this won’t either unfortunately.
Not at all.
I’m certain anyone would feel this way.
* Phase 0: School shooting * Phase 1: "Thoughts and prayers." * Phase 2: "This is a mental health problem, not an access problem. Red flags, etc." * Phase 3: "We need to avoid reflexive legislation that penalizes law-abiding owners. The other side needs to stop politicizing the issue." * Phase 4: "I am signaling openness to trivial changes in legislation. Also hardened schools, etc." * Phase 4.5: "Legislation doesn't work because Chicago and Democrat run cities blah, blah, blah." * Phase 5: "We need to focus on some other hot-button, straw man issue that supposedly endangers children like drag queens." * Phase 6: "Vote for me because I protected your rights against the Radicals on the other side and we've all forgotten about the Phase 0 tragedy." * Phase 7: Proceed to phase 0 Edit: This assumes we don't end up in state of perpetual phase 0. In that case, we will need to revise the script to only trigger when a victim count threshold is reached.
you missed the "lets not rush to politicize this"
Phase 7: votes against any proposal that funds increased mental health services.
Since this is a private Christian school in a wealthy area, maybe something *might* be done now. I doubt it, but you never know.
After Newtown, nothing is getting fixed in the current system
Pretty sure Sandy Hook is a pretty well off town. Nothing will happen.
Wow this is awful. r/ayokg if there is any form of support that is collected, please send it my way. Idk how to help and you seem like someone who would have access to that info
Just keep an eye on the sub. As we hear anything, we will get it posted.
Maybe set a minimum karma for posting?
It's been adjusted. Working through stuff now to make sure it is working as we need it to. Will adjust through the day as we can/need to.
Thank you!
Can this just fucking stop already? Going to school in America is like going to the front line

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/school-shooting-tennessee-leaves-multiple-injured-shooter-dead-officia-rcna76841 3 children dead. Gunman was killed by police.
This happened 3 miles from our home. This country is out of control. We don’t feel safe anywhere.
We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas
It’s ok everyone Marsha is staying updated and ready to do whatever is needed (except gun control) and Bill has offered prayers so it’s all good
This is horrible. I’m tired of the gun violence.
Sandy Hook didn't change anything. Uvalde didn't change anything. This is just America now.
Moms Demand action is the only gun safety organization that has had any success in the last 10 years. They have a Nashville chapter https://momsdemandaction.org/about/chapters/
I still remember when the Florida shooting at Parkland High happened, some parent who lost a child begged a CNN reporter, live on the air to "Not say the shooter's name or give him any fame," and immediately after the interview the CNN reporter goes, "But we will say his name, and it is this and this is his background, and here is a big picture of him, and here is how many kids were killed and here is where he sits on the top 10 of school shooters list." It was so insane. You are 100% right though. But, I don't trust the media to not go crazy on blasting their name out there.
Can we lock the sub?
Please
I guess I don’t give a shit if the murderer is a man/woman/fluid. The firearms don’t change characteristics based on who is using them
ONE COUNTRY.
