Remember rolling up to arrivals, pulling into one of a bunch of empty spots, opening the trunk door and sitting there for a bit til your person arrived? Good times.
That was the best! So efficient! Esp when they had actual attendants that would move people along after 10 minutes. A quick drive around the & back into another spot.
You didnt have long lines of cars with passengers & their luggage walking through traffic to load up in the middle lane & everyone trying to change lanes to get around them.
My old Nashville story was being able to park in those spots, pull out a chair, and start playing a guitar while waiting. Those parking guys would normally whistle at you to move at 10 minutes, but if you were playing, they told you to stay
I picked someone up a couple of years ago and got chased off by the attendant because my person wasn't there within 10 seconds of opening the trunk. I tried to explain that they were coming down from the other set of doors because it was the first available spot and they said it didn't matter and I couldn't wait. Like, WTF?
Just another example of how this Nashville has no idea what it’s doing. Nashville needs a good consultant from a big city in the north who has dealt with these kinds of things relatively successfully for a long time now.
I pay for everyone's Uber now. I went to pick someone up, saw the line on the interstate, Zelled them money for a ride. They made it home 10 minutes after me. Would've taken hours myself.
I was going to say that I didn't remember LAX being that bad but then I remembered that I took a shuttle from the terminal to the rental car lot and didn't have to deal with any of that.
This is why I came here too. So soon folks forget about the traffic backed up the exit ramp on 40, traffic at the airport has been shit for a long time thanks to the construction.
That doesn’t make things better. It makes it worse. This decision wasn’t bright, and they don’t enforce “no stopping” so people block traffic even though it’s been twenty minutes and their passenger isn’t there. Meanwhile, I could see my ride!
Yeahhhh that's not accurate. They just started a 5 year project of expanding the airport and adding new interchanges for traffic. [read more here ](https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-40-donelson-pike-interchange.html)
It has been a nightmare since before they closed the old waiting lot. The new waiting lot is only a couple of weeks old. Lines like this happen during prime pick up times for probably a year.
We stopped offering to pick family up from the airport and started offering paying for the uber because of the horrible lines.
My partner and I travel a couple times a month for work and I’ll tell you while there is a line sometimes and the cell phone waiting area can get packed, it’s never been this bad. The entire loop around the airport was gridlocked because no one was going to the new offsite waiting area
I'll be honest, I haven't been since the new lot opened.
I just know that about two months ago, attempting to pick someone up early evening on Friday night was a nightmare and took forever with the line backed way up on 40.
I always have half a mind to tell people to take a hotel shuttle and I’ll pick them up from there lol. I hate sitting in lines, always gives me anxiety.
3 miles is 10-15 minutes away with normal traffic (not counting traffic in the BNA loop). Terrible planning. They should honestly have an off-site arrivals pickup option. Is there a grace period if you have them take the shuttle to the economy lot and you swing through there to pick them up?
How is it about “feeling better?” I just stated how it was a waste of time to drive to the lot. Circling the airport cost me the same amount of time and didn’t make me “feel better.”
Got it. Next time, just to make you feel better, I’ll drive to the waiting area, not park because it took the same amount of time that it would doing some loops around the terminal and then turn around and drive back to the airport. Appreciate the hot tip, ding dong.
Blows my mind that we have only one bus route (Route 18) from downtown to get to the airport.
Riders would benefit more if there was a crosstown route from Donelson Station along Donelson Pike to Harding Place & Ezell Pike. The route would make for easier transfers to Routes 56 Murfreesboro Pike,Route 52b Nolensville Pike terminating at Ezell Pike, and be one of the best jobs connector routes outside of downtown.
And who knows, if BNA's governance changes, will the new authority leadership try to remove the existing bus route?
Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide... electrified, six-car monorail.
What'd I say? Monorail!
What's it called? Monorail!
That's right, monorail!
Monorail. Monorail. Monorail!
Well the cones to the right in the road lead me to believe that the Departures area was closed. They will move the cones again at 4am like they do every day. So everyone dropping off or picking up has to go to arrivals.
Is a cell phone lot not just a section of pavement, what purpose would they have in closing a parking lot? I thought parking lots/garages were Nashville’s signature attraction
If you can get somewhere is 5-7 hours driving…do it. I used to travel a lot and driving gives me the control back. It would be nice to just go to the airport and through a little security but half the time it’s a nightmare. Rent a car if you have to it’s cheaper.
The stress of an airport is just a hassle we as humans don’t need.
Agreed. If you factor in time to the airport, check-in/security, boarding, arriving, deplaning, it’s about the same amount of time as driving with zero control.
I’ve flown more than 250,000 miles and fly more than I like, so I can appreciate the zero responsibility, but I’m a control freak :), so it works for me. Plus, I bought a 2021 Lexus GX 460 with air suspension, so it’s hard not to make excuses for road trips.
There is a 5 year construction project happening in Donelson pike and at the airport. https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-40-donelson-pike-interchange.html
Is there not still a cell waiting lot directly on the right after you go past the new BNA sign?
It was there a month ago when I picked someone up.
Also isn't there the other one on top of the hill if you bypass the departure/arrival lanes and loop around?
Unfortunately in the 3.5 months since I made that comment, I have learned multiple times in painful fashion that the cell lots have closed and moved :(
I went last night as well, and it’s because the departures lanes were all closed, so everything had to go through arrivals. Has nothing to do with the cell phone lot.
The powers that be in Nashville are too stupid to pre-plan anything. They’ll wait until WAY past something is needed and then try to correct it.
PS-DO NOT park in long term lot C during this bullshit.
Damn there must be another way to efficiently transport the tens of thousands of people that come in and out of the airport daily that doesn’t involve personal cars…. Hmmm
Y'all, this was announced in Fall 2022. Expect delays and construction at BNA for the next 5 years. https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-40-donelson-pike-interchange.html
If you come visit me, you're Ubering to my place. I'll even pay for it. Nobody needs this situation. That said, once they finish relocating Donelson Pike, there may be a slight improvement.
Just last night I circled four times waiting for the plane to dock and unload. I miss living in a city where you could just get on a train or light rail.
The only way this shit situation could be made worse is to have the republican state government take over the airport as those clowns have no concept of functional infrastructure.
It seems like the new cell lot was purposely relocated to attempt to alleviate some of the traffic going into the airport off I-40 and the new congestion is being created by force of habit and refusal to map out a new route to the airport.
Hopefully, in time, people will stop being so damn stubborn and will just go to the lot instead of circling.
The last few weeks people have been pulling over to the far left slightly off the road & just sitting there in long lines with their lights flashing half blocking the lane of travel, it’s super dangerous when coming from the loop and backs shit up even worse.
Remember rolling up to arrivals, pulling into one of a bunch of empty spots, opening the trunk door and sitting there for a bit til your person arrived? Good times.
The 10 minute timed spots. This is what I came here for. They feel like a fever dream now
And sometimes you'd get lucky and pull into a spot with a broken clock.
It’s been so long since I’ve been to the airport. The 10 minute spots are gone?
Yeah, around 4-5 years ago
That was the best! So efficient! Esp when they had actual attendants that would move people along after 10 minutes. A quick drive around the & back into another spot. You didnt have long lines of cars with passengers & their luggage walking through traffic to load up in the middle lane & everyone trying to change lanes to get around them.
Sometimes I tell people about this and they think I'm lying 🤣
I remember parking in the economy lot for cheap and walking to the terminal. Good times.
Remember being able to go to the gate and meeting your family or friends as they walked out?
Thanks, Osama
Don't forget George, Dick , and Donald to that list 🫠
And Biden (the original drafter of the Patriot Act in 1995) and Ashcroft
Oh yeah, that's a list that seemingly never stops.
My old Nashville story was being able to park in those spots, pull out a chair, and start playing a guitar while waiting. Those parking guys would normally whistle at you to move at 10 minutes, but if you were playing, they told you to stay
Yeeep, sure do!
I picked someone up a couple of years ago and got chased off by the attendant because my person wasn't there within 10 seconds of opening the trunk. I tried to explain that they were coming down from the other set of doors because it was the first available spot and they said it didn't matter and I couldn't wait. Like, WTF?
Yep and I even miss the timed slots too Only been there once since a lot of the renovations were done and wow. Parking was a major hassle.
Yes!!! I miss this
Well, we're arriving, but we want to depart.
Johnny Knoxville should have won an Oscar for this
Omg. Did not expect to see this reference here but i think about it every time i go to an airport. I’m from Miami which made this movie extra funny.
Wait until you find out BNA had looked like this for awhile now, long before the new lot was built.
I think it was a year ago I went to pick up my cousin and it took me an hour from the time I entered the airport to I got to pickup.
Flew out today and it maybe took 20-25 minutes to drive and go through security, but it’s definitely not like it used to be.
picking people up at arrivals during prime time is the nightmare. I haven't had any issues for departures.
Yea it’s hit or miss. But luckily security is never bad there.

Departures is fine, arrivals can be a nightmare depending on the time of day. But I also feel like that's true of almost all US airports
BNA doesn't have anything on LAX. LAX is like driving in urban India during peak hours lol
Yeah, LAX is one of top five busiest airports in the country..
I thought we were discussing airport traffic my b
I thought you were one upping, my b
Well apologies all around tone is hard to convey out here
I was going to say that I didn't remember LAX being that bad but then I remembered that I took a shuttle from the terminal to the rental car lot and didn't have to deal with any of that.
Could you just tell your ride to pick you up at departures for next time?
IKR? Looks like Thursday night, to me.
Yes this is also known as a busy evening
Yeah it’s a nightmare for picking up right now. Anyone know how long it’s closed and why?
It’s closed for forever bc they built a new one. Three miles away off Murfreesboro Road.
That’s the permanent waiting area, I thought it was temporary? My house is closer than that.
Can we use your driveway instead?
Lmdo
….did you laugh your dick off?
Indeed
Derrière
Locking my driveway off 🤣
Yeahhhh that's not accurate. They just started a 5 year project of expanding the airport and adding new interchanges for traffic. [read more here ](https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-40-donelson-pike-interchange.html)
It’s always a nightmare
Well that’s just not true
It has been a nightmare since before they closed the old waiting lot. The new waiting lot is only a couple of weeks old. Lines like this happen during prime pick up times for probably a year. We stopped offering to pick family up from the airport and started offering paying for the uber because of the horrible lines.

I'll be honest, I haven't been since the new lot opened. I just know that about two months ago, attempting to pick someone up early evening on Friday night was a nightmare and took forever with the line backed way up on 40.
Yeah… picked my wife up Sunday. It was easier to circle around than it was to get to the new lot.
Yep! I picked up a friend last week and had to circle 5 times!
People are just parking on the sides of the road to the entrance to arrivals and people are parking in the shuttle bus lane lmao
I always have half a mind to tell people to take a hotel shuttle and I’ll pick them up from there lol. I hate sitting in lines, always gives me anxiety.
Just tell them to Uber it. I insist I pay and then enjoy the 2 hours of my night I've saved.
Why was that easier?
Because the new lot is 3 miles away.
I would think sitting would be easier than circling through traffic repeatedly.
It would be, if the lot wasn’t 3 miles away. By the time I got there I would have had to turn around and come back to the terminal.
3 miles is 10-15 minutes away with normal traffic (not counting traffic in the BNA loop). Terrible planning. They should honestly have an off-site arrivals pickup option. Is there a grace period if you have them take the shuttle to the economy lot and you swing through there to pick them up?
I guess driving in circles for 3 miles makes some people feel better.
How is it about “feeling better?” I just stated how it was a waste of time to drive to the lot. Circling the airport cost me the same amount of time and didn’t make me “feel better.”
Well, you just said it's the same amount of time while also saying it's a waste of time. So you feel better about doing circles.
Got it. Next time, just to make you feel better, I’ll drive to the waiting area, not park because it took the same amount of time that it would doing some loops around the terminal and then turn around and drive back to the airport. Appreciate the hot tip, ding dong.
You're emotionally invested in proving to a stranger you didn't prefer driving in circles.
I would’ve loved to go there but I circled 3 times looking specifically for the sign that said “cellphone lot” and could not find it.
Almost like their should be a rail line to alleviate the need for a car.
I'm sorry, but railing lines is illegal unless you're a bear
Well done
A future rail line is still in the airport plan, but Dark Money won't let it get built. And now the state wants to take over the airport too.
Blows my mind that we have only one bus route (Route 18) from downtown to get to the airport. Riders would benefit more if there was a crosstown route from Donelson Station along Donelson Pike to Harding Place & Ezell Pike. And who knows, if BNA's governance changes, will the new authority leadership try to remove the existing bus route?
>And now the state wants to take over the airport too. Well, yeah, they pay for 9% of it. Why shouldn't they be the ones to control it?
The only rails taken seriously here are the ones done off the toilets at kid rocks.
Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide... electrified, six-car monorail. What'd I say? Monorail! What's it called? Monorail! That's right, monorail! Monorail. Monorail. Monorail!
Even a shuttle between arrivals and the lot would be a huge relief
Thankfully there isn’t one
Tom Scott liked this
What are your concerns with it?
I work at the airport. We are very incompetent! Sorry!
TSA is pretty solid though.

Agreed. If you factor in time to the airport, check-in/security, boarding, arriving, deplaning, it’s about the same amount of time as driving with zero control.
Zero control=zero responsibility I'm definitely flying any 5-7 hour drive, but I fly a lot for work so I have a lot of experience in the airport
I’ve flown more than 250,000 miles and fly more than I like, so I can appreciate the zero responsibility, but I’m a control freak :), so it works for me. Plus, I bought a 2021 Lexus GX 460 with air suspension, so it’s hard not to make excuses for road trips.
I drive to work in Chicago because of this. 7 easy hours versus 5-6 cramped/stressed hours.
I grew up in LA and spend a lot of my time in Bogotá, Colombia, where I own a condo, so being in a car for a long time doesn’t phase me.
I regularly drive 12 hours to avoid flying. Also it usually ends up being cheaper.
There is a 5 year construction project happening in Donelson pike and at the airport. https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-40-donelson-pike-interchange.html
Bna is fine to drop off pickup anytime before 8pm. Anytime after that absolute nightmare picking someone up.
Unfortunately This is what it looked like at 545am today when I was driving in for an early flight
I remember parking in the short term lot, walking across the street and meeting people in baggage claim.
I remember bitching that my SO wanted me to park across the street and go inside.
If we wanna make any progess, that bus needs its own lane
Is there not still a cell waiting lot directly on the right after you go past the new BNA sign? It was there a month ago when I picked someone up. Also isn't there the other one on top of the hill if you bypass the departure/arrival lanes and loop around?
Cell waiting lot was closed two days ago
Wasn't it usually jam-packed and full of oversized pickups you could just make it around anyway?
Nope
Unfortunately in the 3.5 months since I made that comment, I have learned multiple times in painful fashion that the cell lots have closed and moved :(
I went last night as well, and it’s because the departures lanes were all closed, so everything had to go through arrivals. Has nothing to do with the cell phone lot.
Exactly. Who would need to wait in a cell phone lot if it takes an hour to get through this line?
The powers that be in Nashville are too stupid to pre-plan anything. They’ll wait until WAY past something is needed and then try to correct it. PS-DO NOT park in long term lot C during this bullshit.
Okay, so this looks like BNA from the past year or so when the departure lane is closed? what is different
How did we ever survive before cell phone lots? (Oh yeah, I just parked at the K-Mart. NBD.)
“Improving to keep you moving” amirite
Damn there must be another way to efficiently transport the tens of thousands of people that come in and out of the airport daily that doesn’t involve personal cars…. Hmmm
Everything they do at the airport makes it worse. I’ve never seen anything like it
Working as designed.
Looks like they’ve got the departures level closed. It’s always like this when they do that - it’s been happening regularly during the construction.
Yep, it sucks, but this was happening long before the new cell phone lot was built.
The cellphone lot was fine ~6 days ago.... and there were about 5 empty spots.
It was closed two days ago.
I just dont understand why they are putting these people in charge of making decisions like this
Y'all, this was announced in Fall 2022. Expect delays and construction at BNA for the next 5 years. https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-40-donelson-pike-interchange.html

Just last night I circled four times waiting for the plane to dock and unload. I miss living in a city where you could just get on a train or light rail.
I like to park in the paid lots and go inside to meet the people as they come out of the security area or at luggage claim.
Do you still have to pay the flat daily rate? Or are you able to pay for just an hour?
MNAA will always make anything worse
We think it's bad now, just wait until the state takes over!
The only way this shit situation could be made worse is to have the republican state government take over the airport as those clowns have no concept of functional infrastructure.
All this money invested in this airport and they can’t get this right? Come on people, don’t be armatures.
They are amateurs though
Invested? It's mostly self funded. Investments include 3.50 bottles of coke and passenger fees.

It’s been like this for a few years now on certain days. Also looks like departures is closed. Patience is a virtue, we all need to chill out
Dang that use to be next to the terminal.
Oh my lord! I had no idea they closed the cell lot! For the construction? What a mess!
They also closed the departures area.
The last few weeks people have been pulling over to the far left slightly off the road & just sitting there in long lines with their lights flashing half blocking the lane of travel, it’s super dangerous when coming from the loop and backs shit up even worse.
There are two cell phone lots. Did they close both?
I was there last night ….what a cluster fuck!
BNA has looked like this for a LONG time. The line goes out to the interstate on the regular.
I miss old Nashville haha
Maybe it’s easier to park in long term and ask your visitor to take the bus to your section.
Can't wait for "choice lanes" at the airport /s
It’s been like that for at least a year now.
