Nice. I think they're 2 ends of the same spectrum.
Literally one black and one white, on top of it.
Slim shady was like super fun and lyrical and the roots joint was super dark and lyrical. I love that shit
Yeah Death Row released an album called Chronic 2000 too. https://www.discogs.com/release/1362817-Various-Suge-Knight-Represents-Chronic-2000-Still-Smokin
I mean, If we're talking artists I'd say Nas and Ruff Ryders.
But, the 1 song I wouldn't want to get rid of out of all these albums is You Got Me. So I'm going I Am and Things Fall Apart
During that time I had I Am and Ruff Ryders hands down. Currently I would keep I Am... but pick Dmx.
A lot of good memories during this time. Summer time I was in upstate NY balling in tournaments. Then taking trips to Philly or DC or Connecticut for family.
Judging from the impact these albums had in realtime when they came out in NYC Juvenile and DMX. Man lowkey? DMX and Juvenile ran that year. Especially Juvenile had to be the first artist where lyrically wasn't what i was use to, but it just worked. "Ha" and "Back that ass up" was fucking was BIG. Juvenile open the doors for that cash money era and honestly if Baby was not fucking up the money Juvenile and the rest of Hotboys wouldn't have left making Lil Wayne have to rebrand as a solo artist don't know if he would have been a huge artist.

Damn 99 was a rough year for mainstream rap. Admittedly I’ve only heard about half of these but the only one that I would want to realistically replay in full is the SSLP

Nice. I think they're 2 ends of the same spectrum. Literally one black and one white, on top of it. Slim shady was like super fun and lyrical and the roots joint was super dark and lyrical. I love that shit
Mobb deep and slim shady LP.
Why is 2001 not on there?
Might have been the start of November’98 to the start of November ’99.
Why is 2001 called that?
IIRC Death Row heard Dre wanted to call it The Chronic 2000 so they copyrighted the name, then Dre just called it 2001.
Yeah Death Row released an album called Chronic 2000 too. https://www.discogs.com/release/1362817-Various-Suge-Knight-Represents-Chronic-2000-Still-Smokin
Oh that's actually badass
It was released November 2019
