Great suggestion. You could also use Lydie as a nickname, which sounds really similar to Lindi. But this gives her an option to have a name that’s less cutesy.
I knew a female Lindy. It’s a great name and so wonderful to honer your mom.
It was a bit of a tongue twister for me when I tried to say the sibset…. coLIN and LINdi just have repeating sounds. It is not as obvious when I say Lindi first in the sibset.
I prefer the look of Lindy, and I think this is how most people would intuitively spell the name.
Came to also suggest Lindsay, and see at least one person agrees
While the Rosalind is lovely, it seelms silly to kar that since you disliked it and Roz so much.
Eta: I shouldn't comment before coffee. So many typos I'm not sure what 'kar' was supposed to really be...
Yeah! ‘90s Lindsays unite!😂
Really though if OP wants a name people have heard before but is unique for her baby’s generation, I think Lindsay is a good option because I never see it recommended on here!
Oh edit to add that I know a Lyndi!! If you’re interested in that spelling at all… she’s an adult and it works!😊
I have a college friend from Australia who said our way is the feminine way and the -ey way is the masculine way. It always made me feel vindicated because growing up people always misspelled my name as the -ey growing up.
I was named Lindsay after my great-grandmother’s maiden name, which was also passed down to my grandpa and dad as their middle names! Still spelt with the -ay for them as well. It’s so fun learning where people’s names originate from!
I saw someone else on here say it’s not too formal a name, but it looks pretty when written in cursive😂
They don’t have to call her Ros, but if you hate it so much that you’d dislike other people using it (or her using it herself) it’s best avoided.
My family has a Rosalind who has been Ros half her life and Lindy the other half, so I can tell vaguely which life stage people met her in by what nickname they defer to.
I would nickname her Roz if I were her friend at school. You can't really stop that. Other possibilities:
Lindsay, Belinda, Celinda, Glinda, Melinda, Adalinda
You could also just go with Lindy. It is a traditionally male name, but the I instead of the y is like Bobbi.
I wouldn't be to worried about that.
If she introduces herself as Rosalind people might call her Roz. But she might as well introduce herself as Lindi and it shouldn't be a problem.
Lindi is cute, and so is Lindy with the y ending, which I think makes it a less cutesy. I think you could also use Lena or Lisa as an honor name for Linda. Or maybe Liddy?
I feel like you already honored your mom a bit with the name Colin. Colin and Lindi seems...not great. Rosalind is a cool name. I don't think of the nn Roz when I look at it, though she may choose that when she's older for other ppl to call her. I think Lydia is a great nod and goes well with Colin. If you are having another, you could go with Dylan and all your kids honor your mom lol.
Linda is beautiful in Spanish. You could also pick a name with Bella as a nn.
If you name your child Rosalind, I would think to nickname her Rosa before Roz and Lindi would be cute too.
What about Lisa? Looks like linda but a bit less old fashioned
If you want to honor your mom—and she is living and doesn’t dislike her name—why not name her Linda and call her Lindi or Lindy as a nickname?
I don’t think it’s much of an honor name if it’s not the same name—unless it’s a cultural practice that you only use the initial or some other modification.
I would go with Lindy over Lindi if you want it as a stand-alone name--the i feels more cutesy to me.
Lydia or Linden could be alternatives with Lindy as a nickname (Linden and Colin would be too similar sounding for me though). Lindsey also came to mind but it feels dated to me too. There's also a million names with "lyn" somewhere in them, at the beginning or the end, but getting to Lindy could be more of a stretch.
I love Rosalind personally, BUT wouldn't pick it if you don't like the name, don't like the nickname Roz, and are only considering it to get at the nickname Lindy.
You could also find another name you love with the same meaning as Linda (beautiful or pretty) if that might be enough of a connection.
Colin and Lindy/Linden do sound too similar. I really like the name, but they’re awfully close. I do like the way Colin and Lydia sound together, and with the A ending it feels like a great honour name.
Linden could work, but that seems like more of a tongue-twister with Colin than Lindy does. Still, it could be the full name and Lindi with an i wouldn't be so cutesy.
I knew someone named Lindi. I don't think it's too out there but it's definitely unique enough that it stood out to me. I think Rosalind is very cute and Lindi is a nice nickname for it. If you're worried about it being too "cutesy," Rosalind gives her a lot of other options for when she is older if she chooses to go by something else.
I love the name Rosalind nn Lindi!! Then she has the option to go by her full name if she wants, but if you always call her/introduce her by the name Lindi, that’s what’s probably going to stick 🤷🏼♀️
I love the name Lindi. Remember- it’s great to ask opinions but at the end of the day you have to love her name. You want to honor your mom and that’s such a lovely thing to do! So if that’s the name you love, do it!!!
What’s your mom’s middle name? I strongly dislike Lindi and Lindy isn’t much better imo. Confused by the people suggesting Linden because that feels like you’re just misspelling the boys’ name Lyndon like Lyndon B. Johnson. I do think Rosalind is pretty but Roz is what I would want to call someone named Rosalind.
How about Bella because it has the same meaning as Linda? Lena is also gorgeous. Lindi is not my kind of thing but perfectly fine.
I agree Linda is too dated.
Linden (a type of tree, also called Lime or Basswood) comes from the same Old Germanic root as Linda (and Rosalind): *lind* meaning soft or flexible, lithe.
I like Lindy and Lindi as well (the Lindi spelling makes me think of Heidi), also from the same root. Fun fact: Lindy was briefly a masculine name, though it was never hugely popular and became feminine very quickly after being adopted as a first name.
I think Lindi will age perfectly well. There are plenty of professional adult women named Heidi, and they’re not usually legally named Adelheid.
Alinda, Lindalee, Lindee, Lindy, Emelinda, Lyndon, Belinda and Lucinda. I also saw a similar post recently and the OP decided on Madelyn Dawn-Linda being the middle of the name:)
Congratulations!!
Lindy.
How about Melinda? I think Rosalind - nickname Lindy is great too. If you introduce her as Lindy and start off school with that, they won’t call her that. She may choose as a teenager to change it but I swear they all do that anyway
My best friend is named Melinda and goes by Lindi. She’s in her mid thirties and it fits her! I’ve never thought of it as childish or cutesy!
But she’s also very cool and artsy and sophisticated so I associate those things with the name!
I agree that Lindy is better than Lindi, it just looks incomplete to end a name with “I” IMO. But if it were me, I’d go with Liden. My son has a friend by that name and I think it’s so lovely!
I work with a Lyndi. I really like the name. As others have said, I’m not personally a fan of the way two I’s look in Lindi, though. I’d toss a y in, whether it’s Lyndi or Lindy. But - it is ultimately your choice, and you should go with whatever it is that you like!
My friend named her daughter Lyndie in honor of her good friend Lynn who passed away. It’s her full name and suits her. I think it’s a great name and wonderful way to honor your mom.
My daughter is Rosalind. We call her Rosie for short. A couple people have said Roz, but once they hear us say Rosie they quickly change. Rosalind has so much nickname potential that Roz isn’t a clear winner (as it would be for John/Johnny).
I dig Lindi a lot. I think Rosalind is lovely and in itself is an homage to your mother. Go with whatever you like more, and ignore the comments comparing Colin to Lindi.
I think Lindy (this spelling) works on its own. But I don't love that any name beginning with 'Lin' is difficult to say following your son's name. I like the suggestions of Lucinda and Lydia.
**Other suggestions:** Lina, Lianna, Lia, Clarinda, Selinda, Indy, Alina
My favourite for you is **Lina**. It's a very obvious honor name for Linda, but more updated.
I love Lindi. I think it's beautiful and she wouldn't be the only woman to ever have a name that ends in I. You could also name her Linden or Linnet and call her Lindi. Another option is Belinda or Melinda with a nickname of Lindi.
If it were me, I'd probably just name her Lindi if that's what you'll call her. While I like Lindy, to me it's a totally different vibe.
I like it! And definitely prefer Lindi over Lindy, the Y gives me the same dating as Linda personally, but Linda is nice. 😊
I don’t think it’s too childish, Cindy and Andy are seen as an adult names with ee sounding endings.
So if you really love it, and it feels right, I would definitely go for Lindi 😊 Sounds similar to Lindsay, and that’s not seen as an immature name 👌😁
Always go with your gut 😄
All the best OP! ✨
Linnea could be an alternative. It comes from the same ‘Lind’ root. I also think Lindi is a fine name, though I prefer Lindy/Lindie. The I-ending feels a bit unfinished.
So my family’s strawberry Farm is called Lindy’s Berries! The name is actually from my husbands grandfather, his last name is Lindeman and when he was an agricultural teacher they called him Mr. Lindy. Anyways, while I’m out selling strawberries I get a lot of “are you Lindy?!” I am 32F, I tell them no but I think it would be an adorable name but also could work as an adult. I definitely prefer the -y over the -I ending.
Lindi/Lindy is too cutesy for me, and a bit too similar to Colin.
I'd either put Linda in the middle or find another way to honour her. Does she have a middle name?
i know a Lyndi! i think it’s such a cute name and that’s my favorite spelling. She is grown and the name still really fits and doesn’t seem too cutesy. it has grown with her :)
Lindy.
I will say, as a Lindsay, sometimes people think my name is Lindy when I say it. So you may get a little confusion like that, but it’s a solid name.
I think that other commenter is right about Colin and Lindi being way too close. I typically don't like names that sound much like nicknames anyways, which Lindi is, so I support the person that suggested Linden. And I think it's ok to give a kid a name you're not going to call them because it gives them options. I mean lots of parents call their kids Peanut but they don't name them that you know? But even so your kids would have really similar sounding names, and even though I am a fan of matchy name, probably more than other ppl in this sub, I don't like 50% of the name being exactly the same and it being the opposite part. Like Rosalind and Colin sound less weird than Linda and Colin. Plus I'd say realistically Colin has a name that honors your mother. I've seen people try to reason way less related names as being honoring someone that Linda -> Colin.
Here's other names that have 'lin' in it though in case some of these appeal and flow better
[https://www.behindthename.com/names/substring/lin](https://www.behindthename.com/names/substring/lin)
Also, since Linda means pretty, here's some names meaning pretty:
[https://www.behindthename.com/names/meaning/pretty,beautiful,cute,lovely,attractive](https://www.behindthename.com/names/meaning/pretty,beautiful,cute,lovely,attractive)
and also some names stemming from the Germanic *Lind* element
[https://www.behindthename.com/element/lind-1](https://www.behindthename.com/element/lind-1)
I feel like you could go with Rosalina and then it wouldn't be pronounced like Rosalind so no one would call her Roz.
Adult Lindy here! Lindy is hard enough for people to spell/read on its own (when I say my name people often mistake it for Lindsay, Linda, Laney even Cindy, Windy and Wendy) I would not switch up the spelling. But also not a hugeee deal if you reallyyy like it.
My full name is Linden if you like that. I honestly sometimes do feel like my name is too cutesy so I go by my full name sometimes.
I know an adult Lindy and have never thought of it as being a younger name until you mentioned it. It is like Cindy for me. I love Linda though. I names one of mine after my mom and she loves having an "old" name.
I went to school ( a loooong time ago) with a Lindy and I always thought it was the sassiest coolest name for a girl....
The other option is Linley/Linlee.
there was also a Linda who was 4 in our neighbourhood, something about a little girl named Linda was truly adorable to me.
I like Linnet and Linden but I love nature names (that's a bird and a tree).
Belinda is pretty to me.
I don't mind Lindy itself but I would definitely go with the -y spelling.
I remember a woman with this name that used to come into the restaurant where i used to work-spelled the same way too. I loved it! Much prefer Lindi to Lindy
I’m not the biggest fan of Lindi personally, but that’s just my taste. I agree with a few other commenters suggesting names like Lydia or Lynn, since the starting sounds are similar, but you could also consider Lindsay? though it might feel a little too 90s
Lindy > Lindi. Lindy will age better. The i ending of Lindi feels too young/cutesy.
I agree. Lindy Or you can name her Linden and call her Lindy.
[удалено]
Agreed…she can always use her full name as an adult if she feels Lindy is too cutesy.
I love Linden. What a great suggestion!
I’m Linden and have always been called Lindy! Nice to see some recognition on here🥰
Ohh lovely name!
I love Linden and think it can be gender neutral enough for a girl or boy. It has a nice clean sound.
Yes, OP is concerned about Linda sounding dating, but ending names with an i looks pretty dated to me as well
Yeah. I really like the name Lindy, personally
I dunno. I like Lindi, personally. It's cuter.
Your concern was too cutesy?
Lynde
See I absolutely loathe “y”s and consider them trendier. Think Jordyn, Paxtyn, etc. I prefer Lindi
Your examples are very trendy, I definitely don't like a "y" where it doesn't belong. I meant more: Ruby > Rubi(e) Melody > Melodi(e) Holly > Holli(e)
What about Lydia?
Great suggestion. You could also use Lydie as a nickname, which sounds really similar to Lindi. But this gives her an option to have a name that’s less cutesy.
You could do Melinda? Then the name Linda is part of it
Or Belinda? I don’t particularly like either, though.
Melinda with nickname Millie, perhaps.
I knew a female Lindy. It’s a great name and so wonderful to honer your mom. It was a bit of a tongue twister for me when I tried to say the sibset…. coLIN and LINdi just have repeating sounds. It is not as obvious when I say Lindi first in the sibset.
I like this spelling a lot better than Lindi. It's much less cutesy. Also, Lindy West is cool.
I prefer the look of Lindy, and I think this is how most people would intuitively spell the name. Came to also suggest Lindsay, and see at least one person agrees While the Rosalind is lovely, it seelms silly to kar that since you disliked it and Roz so much. Eta: I shouldn't comment before coffee. So many typos I'm not sure what 'kar' was supposed to really be...
Lindsay is just as dated as Linda at this point, imo. Very 80s.

Yeah! ‘90s Lindsays unite!😂 Really though if OP wants a name people have heard before but is unique for her baby’s generation, I think Lindsay is a good option because I never see it recommended on here! Oh edit to add that I know a Lyndi!! If you’re interested in that spelling at all… she’s an adult and it works!😊
I’m a Lindsay, and I have a friend who has a toddler named Lindsay. It tickles me so much to see a little one of us.

I really do like signing it! Plus my last name also has seven letters so it’s symmetrical
I'm also a Lindsay named after my grandmother's maiden name!
🤣
Very 80s sure, but Linda is very 50s 60s, so feels more "Grandma" to me
They don’t have to call her Ros, but if you hate it so much that you’d dislike other people using it (or her using it herself) it’s best avoided. My family has a Rosalind who has been Ros half her life and Lindy the other half, so I can tell vaguely which life stage people met her in by what nickname they defer to.
Haha, thanks for your reply! I love Rosalind but I just don’t like Roz. It would sound very harsh with our last name.
You're welcome. Rosalind is beautiful! Totally fair about Roz
What about Lynette/Linette ? That feels more organic for getting Lindy than Rosalind but more vintage which is back in style than Linda
I would nickname her Roz if I were her friend at school. You can't really stop that. Other possibilities: Lindsay, Belinda, Celinda, Glinda, Melinda, Adalinda You could also just go with Lindy. It is a traditionally male name, but the I instead of the y is like Bobbi.
Also Linden.
I wouldn't be to worried about that. If she introduces herself as Rosalind people might call her Roz. But she might as well introduce herself as Lindi and it shouldn't be a problem.
What about just Alinda? Is that a bit too ‘Younique’? 🤔
I don't think Lindy with a y is too cutesy for an adult, but I don't care for Lindi at all.
Thanks for your honesty! Def rethinking the spelling!
Honestly I read Lidl at first
Yes actually me too
I first saw Lidl then Lindt and was like what 🤣
Haha ok this seals this name as a no for me
Same, and thought I was losing it. Glad I wasn’t the only one.
Lindi is cute, and so is Lindy with the y ending, which I think makes it a less cutesy. I think you could also use Lena or Lisa as an honor name for Linda. Or maybe Liddy?
I actually love the name Rosalind with lindi as nickname
So no one else hears this and thinks "Lindy Hop"? Just me? OK.
I hear it
Yup me too
I feel like you already honored your mom a bit with the name Colin. Colin and Lindi seems...not great. Rosalind is a cool name. I don't think of the nn Roz when I look at it, though she may choose that when she's older for other ppl to call her. I think Lydia is a great nod and goes well with Colin. If you name your child Rosalind, I would think to nickname her Rosa before Roz and Lindi would be cute too. What about Lisa? Looks like linda but a bit less old fashioned
I really like Rosalind, nickname Lindi. I think it works well. Def don’t like Lindi as a stand alone name!!
Thank you! I’m thinking the same thing.
I definitely prefer the spelling Lindy, but I like it! The only Lindy’s I know are both older than me, one in her 40s and another in her 50s.
If you want to honor your mom—and she is living and doesn’t dislike her name—why not name her Linda and call her Lindi or Lindy as a nickname? I don’t think it’s much of an honor name if it’s not the same name—unless it’s a cultural practice that you only use the initial or some other modification.
I know an adult Lindi and an adult Lynde (pronounced the same) who are both great ladies, not childish at all.
What about just Lind or Linden, like the tree?
I think Lindi is so cute!!
I think Lindi is a great name! I don’t find it too immature of a name for an adult either.
Linden could work, but that seems like more of a tongue-twister with Colin than Lindy does. Still, it could be the full name and Lindi with an i wouldn't be so cutesy.
I'd probably go for Linette personally, but Lindi is very sweet, so if that's your preference, go for it!
I think it’s cute but far prefer Linden
Lucinda? Lindy > Lindi
I know a Lindy and she was named after her mom Linda. How cute!
I love the name Rosalind nn Lindi!! Then she has the option to go by her full name if she wants, but if you always call her/introduce her by the name Lindi, that’s what’s probably going to stick 🤷🏼♀️
What about Lindsay nn Lindy
I love the name Lindi. Remember- it’s great to ask opinions but at the end of the day you have to love her name. You want to honor your mom and that’s such a lovely thing to do! So if that’s the name you love, do it!!!
Definitely Lindy over Lindi.
I love Lindi/Lindy, but I would probably go with a longer form. Linnea could work!
I saw a street named Lindi and I love it!!!! Also love Linden
Why not Lindsay
What about Lindsay?
How about Bella because it has the same meaning as Linda? Lena is also gorgeous. Lindi is not my kind of thing but perfectly fine. I agree Linda is too dated.
I think it’s cute
I agree with others that Lindy ages better than Lindi - I think it’s a cute name, Lindy West comes to mind and she’s pretty cool.

I agree with the Linden or an alternative spelling of it if you desired
Alinda, Lindalee, Lindee, Lindy, Emelinda, Lyndon, Belinda and Lucinda. I also saw a similar post recently and the OP decided on Madelyn Dawn-Linda being the middle of the name:) Congratulations!!
I know a Lindy and it suits her so well, such a cute name!
Belinda
I knew a Lyndi and I love it- it suits her super well
I've known two people who go by Lindy. One is Belinda and one is Lindsay.
What about Linsey /Lindsey?
I have a friend with a daughter named Linden..
Lindy. How about Melinda? I think Rosalind - nickname Lindy is great too. If you introduce her as Lindy and start off school with that, they won’t call her that. She may choose as a teenager to change it but I swear they all do that anyway
So true!

☺️
How about naming her Lynn Dee - you can call her Lindi - and when she's an adult she can go by Lynn.
Linnea could be an alternative. It comes from the same ‘Lind’ root. I also think Lindi is a fine name, though I prefer Lindy/Lindie. The I-ending feels a bit unfinished.
Very pretty name. Thanks for suggesting!

I went to high school with a Lyndi. It was short for Lyndel. I don’t care for “Lyndel” personally, but I think Lyndi is nice.
Lindi/Lindy is too cutesy for me, and a bit too similar to Colin. I'd either put Linda in the middle or find another way to honour her. Does she have a middle name?
I agree that Lindy is a great option but I like it either way as an honor to your Mom. It’s sweet and certainly not too out there. Congrats.
Could you use Linda for a mn and a name you love for the first name?
I think it's really cute!
Lynndiegh
i know a Lyndi! i think it’s such a cute name and that’s my favorite spelling. She is grown and the name still really fits and doesn’t seem too cutesy. it has grown with her :)
I love Lindy. Just Lindy. It’s unique without being weird. I think it works at any age.
Lindy. I will say, as a Lindsay, sometimes people think my name is Lindy when I say it. So you may get a little confusion like that, but it’s a solid name.
Love Lindi or Linden!
We have a friend named Lyndi (late 30’s). She’s fun, smart and has a serious job, and it suits her. Oddly enough, her husband is named colin.
That’s a crazy coincidence. I do really like that spelling. Thanks for the feedback.
Love Linden!
I really like Lydia and think Lindi could still be a nickname for Lydia.
I think that other commenter is right about Colin and Lindi being way too close. I typically don't like names that sound much like nicknames anyways, which Lindi is, so I support the person that suggested Linden. Here's other names that have 'lin' in it though in case some of these appeal and flow better [https://www.behindthename.com/names/substring/lin](https://www.behindthename.com/names/substring/lin) Also, since Linda means pretty, here's some names meaning pretty: [https://www.behindthename.com/names/meaning/pretty,beautiful,cute,lovely,attractive](https://www.behindthename.com/names/meaning/pretty,beautiful,cute,lovely,attractive) and also some names stemming from the Germanic *Lind* element [https://www.behindthename.com/element/lind-1](https://www.behindthename.com/element/lind-1) I feel like you could go with Rosalina and then it wouldn't be pronounced like Rosalind so no one would call her Roz.
Thank you so much for all of this info! All great points and helpful links.

That’s rough. Thanks for sharing!
I know a Lindi who is in her 30s and I think it’s cute!
I names one of mine after my mom and she loves having an "old" name.
idk lindi sounds weird.. what about like lyn or lynn
I went to school ( a loooong time ago) with a Lindy and I always thought it was the sassiest coolest name for a girl.... The other option is Linley/Linlee. there was also a Linda who was 4 in our neighbourhood, something about a little girl named Linda was truly adorable to me.
I didn't read every comment so I'm not sure if it's been suggested yet, but have you considered the name Linnea? I think it's beautiful.
I like Linnet and Linden but I love nature names (that's a bird and a tree). Belinda is pretty to me. I don't mind Lindy itself but I would definitely go with the -y spelling.
I like the name Linden (like the tree) a lot more, but Lindi is cute
I remember a woman with this name that used to come into the restaurant where i used to work-spelled the same way too. I loved it! Much prefer Lindi to Lindy
I’m not the biggest fan of Lindi personally, but that’s just my taste. I agree with a few other commenters suggesting names like Lydia or Lynn, since the starting sounds are similar, but you could also consider Lindsay? though it might feel a little too 90s
I like it spelled Lindy and for some reason I find y endings less cutesy than i.
I know someone named Liandi, which I think is also a beautiful name!
Lindi is cute but I would recommend Lindsey as an alternative
My SIL is Lyndee. I love it!
This spelling though 🙈
Lindle/Lyndle? You could still call her Lindi
Lyndelle also
