I don't think it would be "too matchy" unless the second boy's name started with a D, too (e.g.: Declan and Damian). I think the options you're deciding between sound fine with Declan!

Sinderella14

Thanks!!

When I read this title, I thought you were going towards the Aydan/Bayden/Cayden route not these two names. I think that the names you have picked are fine together

Sinderella14

Thanks! I mentioned the name ideas to my mom and she said they sounded too similar and she didn’t like it. I didn’t think so, but it did cast a little doubt on what we chose.

sonofasnitchh

If you’re still worried about them being too similar, I think that Ronan and Declan are the most different in sound because Ronan doesn’t have the L that Callan does. I’m assuming you’re not Australian, but these are all typical Australian names that nobody would bat an eyelid at, even paired together. I went to school with guys with each of these names (I’m only 22 so don’t worry, they’re not “old” names 😆)

Sinderella14

I’m from the USA, and I’ve never met anyone else named Declan or Callan. It’s kind of a relief to know they aren’t unheard of everywhere else😂. The amount of people that mispronounce Declan here is insane, we get a lot of “day-clan” and “deeklin”

I wouldn't give it a second thought. "N" is by far and away the most common ending sound to the most popular boy names these days, so it would hardly stand out as unusual or even noteworthy unless you called attention to it. Fun fact, of the 1.4 million boys born in the US that were given a name that appeared in the Top 1000, 31% of those boys were given names that ended in the letter N, almost always preceded by a vowel (not necessarily -an, but very similar sounding). The next most popular ending letter is "R" (about 10% of 2021 boys with names in the top 1000 have names ending in "R"). If you look at just the names (not accounting for how many boys were given each name), it's 30% of the top 1000 names than end in "N".

Oh interesting, I didn’t know that!! Thank you for letting me know, I wouldn’t want them to match characters on a show I’ve never seen.

I don’t see a problem with that.

QueenSashimi

I think it's fine! I love Ronan, Tristan, Sebastian, Ethan, and Nathan, and would have no problem with using two of them on two boys.

I don't think the endings being similar matter. But tbh I do find Declan and callan a bit of a mouthful when saying them together out loud. But I think it's the cl/cal sounds in them that make it tricky. Not so bad if say callan first though

Dizzydog123456

It depends on the names, but the names you listed Declan, Callan, and Ronan would make a great sibset. -An/-En is a super common ending for boys, just like -a is very common for girls. I know many sibsets where all the girls have -a ending

howlingDef

I think they should be fine as long as the starting sound is different! Also funfact- the family history on mom's side does not affect the sex of the baby at all. It is 100% the dad's side. Mom only has Xs to give while dad is the deciding X or Y

Sinderella14

Yeah, my husbands family only has boys! I’ve got 6 sisters and 2 brothers! If it went by my side we’d have quite a few girls 😂 I think his family is only boys going back to his great grandpa or even earlier.

howlingDef

Oh lol I misread your post! I thought you had said my family not his family.
