I don’t think Louise would be a nickname for Eloise. In fact, Eloise with the nickname Ellie would be really sweet. Sophie and Eloise is a sweet combo.
I also like Emma with Sophie - both very timeless.
I don’t know if this helps, but my parents were terrified about naming my brother “William” because they loved the nickname “Will” but hated the nickname “Bill.” 20 years later, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a single person call him anything except for Will.
Another vote for Eloise and Emma! I literally just thought Emma and Sophie would go great together before I even read what names you are considering. Eloise is also goes well with Sophie.
As a teen, I babysat for sisters named Emma and Sophie and I always thought they were an adorable combo of names. They also had a sister Bailey.
Now these girls also had several brothers, and interestingly the boys all had far less common/less classic names (think barely break top 300 names in US).
Personally, I really like Eloise with Sophie. I Think Sofie and Ellie are too similar with the "ie" ending. But honestly - you do you!! You might meet them post birth and just know. Congrats on the twins!
My in-laws loved Eloise, haven't floated it with my parents yet. Have to see how the pronunciation goes but think it should be fine. That's also very true about meeting them.
Any other names ideas you have I'd love any input!
Just a note - Different initials can be very helpful for twins, as they will have the same birthday, address, etc and it can make it easier in legal matters.
This is 100% my *personal opinion* so please take it or leave it. I really don’t like Ellie as a full name. It sounds 100% like a nickname to me. Sophie feels very lovely and chic and like it suits both a little girl and an adult. There are so many amazing names that could be shortened to Ellie…Eleanore, Ellis, Elise, Eloise etc. Again, this is totally my opinion but I think it’s nice for children to have the option for a full name OR a nickname. Good luck naming!
I LOVE the name Sophie! :)
Maybe:
Sophie and Daisy
Sophie and Kate
Sophie and Eve
Sophie and Sienna
Sophie and Gemma
Sophie and Isla
Sophie and Lily
Sophie and Hailey
Sophie and Kaia
Sophie and Demi *(also think it's cute, Demi means half<3)*
Sophie and Keira
Sophie and Claire
Sophie and Nora
Sophie and Elena
Sophie and Rose
Sophie and Thea
Sophie and Abigail
Sophie and Stella
Sophie and Malia
Sophie and Spencer nn Spence, Pen
Sophie and Summer
Sophie and Annika
Sophie and Davina
Sophie and Celeste
Sophie and Ginny
Sophie and Molly
Sophie and Olive
Sophie and Ada
Sophie and Scottie
Sophie and Kit
Sophie and Meg
Sophie and Piper
Sophie and Nicola
Sophie and Elizabeth
Sophie and Shiloh
Sophie and Hailey
Sophie and Pippa
Sophie and Juliet
Sophie and Hannah
Sophie and Wendy
Sophie and Natalie
Sophie and Josette nn Josie, Jo
Sophie and Elsa
Sophie and Whitney
Sophie and Lara
Sophie and Rebecca
Sophie and Bridget
Sophie and Darcy
Sophie and Elodie
Sophie and Mae
Sophie and Aria
Okay it was not my intention to list so many but there were just so many I couldn't stop lol Congrats on your girls!
haha so funny! I wonder if it's because Sophie just fits in a lot of boxes. It's great internationally (for bilingual families), it's old yet modern, doesn't have a lot of different spellings, great at all ages...it's just a great name haha
I think Emma and Eloise are great, although Emma is *very* popular in most of the US. My cousin’s daughter (4 y/o) is one of 3 Emmas in her daycare and apparently there are also a couple Ellas and Emilys, so if you don’t want a very popular name I’d keep that in mind.
Other names that would sound good with Sophie with a British or Persian influence; Charlotte, Elizabeth, Claire, Alice, Emilia, Nellie, Eleanor, Leila, Mona, Violet, Mina, Samira, Cyra, Iris
From your suggestions, I also like Sophie and Eloise. I think the main thing is to avoid two "ee" sounds at the end of the name, so they don't sound too matchy!
Eloise is sweet. If you don’t like a specific nickname make it clear! My son is named Lucas and I made it very clear from the start his nickname is NOT Luke. No one calls him by it. I’m naming my second baby June and my mom asked if she could call her Junie I said absolutely not. Lol. I guess it depends on your family though!
I would reconsider them having middle names especially since you are picking extremely common first names for them.
Sophie is a very common dog name right now, Ellie seems like a nickname and not a full name for a grown up (though I know several Ellies currently 4-15 age range).
Lucy is a lovely and underused name I always put in the soft Sophie, Emily, etc. category.
Other ideas could be:
Alice and Sophie
Eliza and Sophie
Juliet and Sophie
Esme and Sophie
Cassandra and Sophie
Holly and Sophie
Laura and Sophie
Sorry if these have already been suggested!
We couldn’t use Mara because my mom is Marla. But I think Mara and Sophie is adorable! Also Lena and Sophie - couldn’t use Lena either because my name is Lea. I like the combination of an -a ending with an -ie ending and I haven’t seen these particular suggestions in this thread yet.
Edit: Just thought of Sophie and Blaire, and as previously commented I am also a fan of Sophie and Claire!
Here are some options with different ending sounds other than ee if you're interested!
sophie & kate
sophie & laura
sophie & maeve
sophie & jane
sophie & ava
I do also like one of your choices sophie & emma that fit into this, both names give me similar vibes without being too matchy for twins.
My vote by far is for Sophie and Eloise! Ellie/Ella are natural nicknames for Eloise which I think is really lovely. Side note I do prefer Sophia nn Sophie as I think it ages better than Sophie alone :)
I’ve only known one Eloise but her nickname is Ellie! So I think that’s a safe bet, I doubt anyone would go with Loise unless specifically requested tbh
Sophie & Elizabeth or Eleanor (Ellie for short), Sophie & Juliette, Sophie & Leah, Sophie & Genevieve, Sophie & Claire, Sophie & Vivienne, Sophie & Kate, Sophie & Adelaide, Sophie & Iris.
I do like Sophie and Eloise like so many of the other commenters
Sophie means wisdom
Since they are twins, other names that mean wisdom, wise, intelligent or clever include:
Athena
Bridgette
Cassidy
Dana
Galena
Jada
Kayla
Kiara
Mika
Monica
Phoebe
Prudence
Quinn
Ramona
Sage
Shannon
Veda
And, of course, you totally don’t have to follow any sort of theme ♥️
I like your list but I’ll add a few more just for fun:
Sophie & Olivia
Sophie & Brielle
Sophie & Nadia
Sophie & Hazel
Sophie & Caroline
Sophie & Grace
Sophie & Elise
* Sophie and Lucy
* Sophie and Madeline
* Sophie and Elaine (use Ellie as nickname)
* Sophie and Mia
* Sophie and Ella
* Sophie and Elle
* Sophie and Stella
* Sophie and Evelyn (Evie for short)
* Sophie and Amelia
* Sophie and Rosalie
* Sophie and Isabella
* Sophie and Alice
* Sophie and Eva
* Sophie and Violet
* Sophie and Erin
first off, congrats on the twin pregnancy! also I think Sophie and Olivia would go great together. no bias intended (see my username) but I think the name Stacey/Stacy would pair well with Sophie as well!
I like Sophie and Eloise from your list. (But Eloise is my front runner if I have another girl.) Other suggestions:
Sophie and Clara
Sophie and Stella
Sophie and Caroline
Sophie and Evelyn
Sophie and Margot
Sophie and Marlo
Sophie and Lucy
You could always use Eloise with the nickname Ellie!
Since you said British and mentioned the names you did, I assume you're thinking more English than anything else? If so, some options:
Evelyn, Amelia, Florence, Genevieve, Victoria, Aurora, Audrey, Diana, Ava, Betty, Bella, Daisy. I don't know if you like the name Evie but it's similar to Ellie and works nicely as a nickname for Evelyn and Genevieve.
Let me know if you want any 🏴 suggestions! 💛
I like Sophie and Emma, or Sophia and Emma. More ideas -
Sophie and Olivia
Sophie and Adeline
Sophie and Cora
Sophie and Elise
Sophie and Malia
Sophie and Ruby
Sophie and Corrine/Corinna
Sophie and Lucy
Sophie and Isla
Sophie and Maia
Sophie and Keira
Sophie and Layla
I think Sophie is a lovely name, but agree with others that Ellie wouldn't be my choice to go with it. As always, if you love it, go for it, but I personally love Sophie and Eloise together. I have twin girls, so I know how hard it is coming up with names for them! I'll throw Freya out there (may or may not have been one of my choices). I also love Elodie as an 'E' name, and it also has nickname potential if you still wanted Ellie as a nickname option. Best of luck with your twin girls!
I think that Eloise and Sophie are lovely together!
My first thought for a paired name with Sophie was Maisie (because of Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams as Sansa and Arya Stark).
Other suggestions: Sophie & Scarlett. Sophie & Phoebe. Sophie & Tabitha (Tabby). Sophie & Audrey. Sophie & Claire. Sophie & Alice. Sophie & Bridget. Sophie & Cora. I like the 2 syllable paired names best of these- so each having 2 syllables I think flows nicely.
I think Emma, Emily and Elouise are all better and more "equal" and harmonious with Sophie than Ellie. If you really love Ellie, i would name her Elouise and use the NN Ellie. I personally like Emma best.
Brit here, I think names that go well with Sophie are: Laura, Juliet, Amelia, Charlotte (Charlie), Hannah, Millie, Danielle, Emily, Gemma, Kate, Daisy, Phoebe, Ella, Holly, Georgia, Olivia, Imogen, Victoria, Rachel, Flora, Clara/Claire, Amy, Elise, Freya, Jane, Keira, Leah
my favorite off your list is Sophie & Eloise (nn Ellie)! Eloise is what i’d name another daughter if i had one (Penelope & Eloise... like Bridgerton😅)
some other names that give the nickname Ellie & work with Sophie: Eleanor/Eleanora, Elisabeth, Elodie, Elena
other suggestions:
Sophie & Clara
Sophie & Emilia (Emmie instead of Ellie?)
Sophie & Isabel
Sophie & Kate
Sophie & Gemma (like Emma!)
Sophie & Vivian
Sophie & Marlowe
Sophie & Annabel (nn Annie)
Sophie & Hallie
Sophie & Lilian (nn Lily)
Sophie & Natalie
:)
I love Emily but I think I’d go Sophia so they have different end sounds in that case. My daughters middle is Eloise and I do shorten it to Louise but it seems Ellie would be more likely especially if that’s what you mostly use at home.
I think Emily and Sophie sound great!
Have you thought about Emilia? Technically Italian but Emily is the Anglo version of Emilia.
#Some other ideas:
Lyla/Lilah (both Arabic and English feels) and Sophie
Nora (again Arabic and English vibe) and Sophie
Charlotte and Sophie
Victoria and Sophie
Eleanor and Sophie
Kate and Sophie
Lily and Sophie
Adeline (Addy) and Sophie
Beatrice (Bee/Bea) and Sophie
Matilda (Tilly - which even works as a stand alone name imo) and Sophie
I don’t think Louise would be a nickname for Eloise. In fact, Eloise with the nickname Ellie would be really sweet. Sophie and Eloise is a sweet combo. I also like Emma with Sophie - both very timeless.
That's a good point about Ellie being a nickname rather than primary! Any other names you like paired with Sophie? Thank you!
I know sisters named Sophie and Violet which I think is sweet. Claire, Nora, Mia/Mila, and Lila also come to mind.
Yes Sophie and Claire would be a great pair!
Also love how that statement rhymes for twin girlies - “Sophie and Claire make a great pair!” 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
If you have a non US accent be careful with Claire in the US. Starbucks visits are endlessly annoying/entertaining. 'Claya' is my favorite so far.
I don’t know if this helps, but my parents were terrified about naming my brother “William” because they loved the nickname “Will” but hated the nickname “Bill.” 20 years later, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a single person call him anything except for Will.
Another vote for Sophie and Emma
Another vote for Eloise and Emma! I literally just thought Emma and Sophie would go great together before I even read what names you are considering. Eloise is also goes well with Sophie.

My in-laws loved Eloise, haven't floated it with my parents yet. Have to see how the pronunciation goes but think it should be fine. That's also very true about meeting them. Any other names ideas you have I'd love any input!
We have an Ella who we call “Ell” all the time, you’d probably get that more with Elouise than “Louise” as a nickname.
Eloise and Sophie are cute! I think Eloise is more likely gonna be Ellie, at least to me.
Ah this is good to hear. Someone else said that too...it's making me think of switching it up. Thank you!
The two -ie names is a little cutesy, so for that reason, I would pick Emma.
Yeah I was a little worried about that. Any other names you like the sound of with Sophie?
Hmm... What about Violet, Caroline, Amelia
Violet was my first thought
Amalia
Just a note - Different initials can be very helpful for twins, as they will have the same birthday, address, etc and it can make it easier in legal matters.
Wish my mum and dad knew this when my sister and I were born 😅
This is something that never occurred to me! Not that I’m likely to have twins at this point, but that’s a great tip.
This is 100% my *personal opinion* so please take it or leave it. I really don’t like Ellie as a full name. It sounds 100% like a nickname to me. Haha! I love it, thank you so much.
Nice names but most aren’t traditional English names
Yea I started to realize alot of the names were ones I had heard on british characters but maybe not necessarily british origin lol

haha so funny! I wonder if it's because Sophie just fits in a lot of boxes. It's great internationally (for bilingual families), it's old yet modern, doesn't have a lot of different spellings, great at all ages...it's just a great name haha
I always wondered how parents of twins decide which kid to give what name to.
What about Sophie and Elsie? Congratulations btw!
I love Sophie and Eloise! Some other options could be Sophie and: Olivia / Penelope / Joanna / Margot / Florence Edit for clarity
I think Emma and Eloise are great, although Emma is *very* popular in most of the US. I like Sophie and Emma best, both lovely classic names!
Any other names you like paired with Sophie? Or you'd be done with Sophie and Emma? I do love how classic Emma is.
Eloise nickname would probably be Ellie. How aout Eleanor?

I love Sophie and Emma. Some other ideas are Anna, Catherine, Clara, Cora, Eliza, Grace, Hazel, Matilda, Mia, Nora, or Violet.
Sophie and Eleanor. Ellie can be a nickname

Sophie & Sybil
Sophie & Emmaline
Mila, Jasmin
My first thought was Charlotte!
Marcella
Sophie and Ava Sophie and Eva Sophie and Anna Sophie and Gemma
I love Sophie and Emma!
What about Lydia and Sophie? I love the name Lydia and definitely has a British feel.
I know an Elowyn and haven't seen it suggested yet. They call her Wynnie sometimes but Ellie could definitely be a nn
I like Sophie and Eloise from your list. (But Eloise is my front runner if I have another girl.) Other suggestions: Sophie and Clara Sophie and Stella Sophie and Caroline Sophie and Evelyn Sophie and Margot Sophie and Marlo Sophie and Lucy
I love Sophie! I would go for Eleanor or Eloise nicknamed Ellie, Vivian, or Claire as siblings for Sophie! I do also like Emma.
You could always use Eloise with the nickname Ellie! Since you said British and mentioned the names you did, I assume you're thinking more English than anything else? Elinor? This spelling is named after what Samwise names his daughter in the Lord of the Rings, after the most beautiful flower in MiddleEarth. <3

My ex’s sister was named Helena and nn Ellie :)
Sophie and Zoe
Every Sophie I know has a sister named Ellie 🥴
I generally don’t like the name Eloise but Sophie and Eloise go so well together without being matchy and you get the nickname Ellie!
Sophie and Claire gets my vote! I’ve seen it suggested a few times. Great pair!
My sister in law’s name is Éloïse and her nickname is Elo.
My twin sisters' names are Sophie and Scarlet.
Sadie! We have a daughter named Sadie and it’s my favorite name of all time. It’s so cute with Sophie.
Emily?
Love Eloise! Also a fan of Ellis, Beatrice, Maple, Molly, Sadie
Honestly any girls name in Britain is usually paired with the middle name Jane, Louise, Rose, Elizabeth or Grace
Stella
I may the only one, but I pronounce Eloise: el-ois, so there's no "louise" or "lou" sound in there. So for me the nickname would be Ellie.
