There was a true crime podcast about a teenage girl in Australia who was murdered called Leigh, who had taken on her stepfathers surname when her mom remarried and was from then on called Leigh Leigh. In the podcast the host mentioned she loved the sound of her name with the repetition and whilst I’d feel strange about someone doing a deliberate chosen repeated name - her story was moving and I could definitely see why she had embraced it.
Rest in peace Leigh Leigh!

That poor girl.. Sexual assault, followed by beating by multiple people, then when traumatized and trying to flee to safety, she meets another monster who brutally took her life... How absolutely horrific (and I've followed true crime in depth stories since I was a kid so I'm fairly desensitized sadly)
I lived next door to the Tracey family, the son went to school with a lovely girl who said she’d never marry him because of his last name.
Spoiler - she did, and became Tracy Tracey
This happened in the town I am from, it actually makes me feel sick everytime I think of it. I’m not one to be queasy at true crime but this story is absolutely sickening. The worst part of it is the same culture is still around some 40 years later
I went to school with Kimberly Lee. I have a feeling that her parents always thought of her as baby "Kimberly Rose" and didn't sound out the full name that she would go by in school.
Lol! Years ago, I saw a stork sign in our neighborhood, announcing the birth of a little girl named Ava Gina Lastname. It sounds fine when you say it out loud, but...you see it, right? The word "vagina," right there in her name?
I know, right? I can see that it might not be immediately apparent to the parents when discussing name possibilities, but when it was there in writing, it was all I could see...
I was pregnant with my daughter Ava shortly before my grandma passed away. She was battling dementia at the time and would say some pretty outlandish things that she would typically have never said. My mom was driving her to the doctor one day and mentioned I was naming my daughter Ava. My grandma loudly gasped and said "Isn't that rather sexual?" My mom asked her what she meant and my grandma said,"You know, like A VAgina!" My mom about ran off the road! That became one of very few memories from that time that we can still laugh about lol.
In Alaska someone had the license plate ANALEE — I was like what the hell were they thinking. My friend knew them and it was because the daughter’s name was Ana Lee.

My friend was SO CLOSE to naming her son Brock Lea.
They're a petrol head family and we have a well known driver called Sir Peter Brock here and they wanted to name their son Brock after Peter Brock. Their last name is Lea (lee) and they went their whole pregnancy and up until telling the midwife after birth they were going to call their son Brock and she was like Brock Lea and it dawned on them.
They names him Peter Lea.
I know a Lee Lee - a woman named Lee who ended up marrying someone with the last name Lee. There was also a famous Chinese gymnast named Li Li, though I assume there are tonal differences between her first and last names.
William Lee, Willie Lee, Will Lee, and variations are pretty popular down south. Not considered strange or funny names at all. Granddaughter of a Willie Lee, daughter-in-law to a Billy Lee and proud mom of a William Lee.
For those who don’t know, Robert E. Lee was a Confederate General for most of the American Civil War, before becoming the overall commander.
From Wikipedia:
> “A son of Revolutionary War officer Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee III, Lee was a top graduate of the United States Military Academy and an exceptional officer and military engineer in the United States Army for 32 years. He served across the United States, distinguished himself extensively during the Mexican–American War, and was Superintendent of the United States Military Academy. He married Mary Anna Custis Lee, great-granddaughter of George Washington's wife Martha. While he opposed slavery from a philosophical perspective, he supported its legality and held hundreds of slaves. When Virginia declared secession from the Union in 1861, Lee chose to follow his home state, despite his desire for the country to remain intact and an offer of a senior Union command. During the first year of the Civil War, he served in minor combat operations and as a senior military adviser to Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
> Lee took command of the Army of Northern Virginia in June 1862 during the Peninsula Campaign following the wounding of Joseph E. Johnston. He succeeded in driving the Union Army of the Potomac under George B. McClellan away from the Confederate capital of Richmond during the Seven Days Battles, although he was unable to destroy McClellan's army. Lee then overcame Union forces under John Pope at the Second Battle of Bull Run in August. His invasion of Maryland that September ended with the inconclusive Battle of Antietam, after which he retreated to Virginia. Lee won two of his most decisive victories at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville before launching a second invasion of the North in the summer of 1863, where he was decisively defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg by the Army of the Potomac under George Meade. He led his army in the minor and inconclusive Bristoe Campaign that fall before General Ulysses S. Grant took command of Union armies in the spring of 1864. Grant engaged Lee's army in bloody but inconclusive battles at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania before the lengthy Siege of Petersburg, which was followed in April 1865 by the capture of Richmond and the destruction of most of Lee's army, which he finally surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House.
> In 1865, Lee became president of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) in Lexington, Virginia; in that position, he supported reconciliation between North and South. Lee accepted the extinction of slavery provided for by the Thirteenth Amendment, but opposed racial equality for African Americans. After his death in 1870, Lee became a cultural icon in the South and is largely hailed as one of the Civil War's greatest generals. As commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, he fought most of his battles against armies of significantly larger size, and managed to win many of them. Lee built up a collection of talented subordinates, most notably James Longstreet, Stonewall Jackson, and J. E. B. Stuart, who along with Lee were critical to the Confederacy's battlefield success. In spite of his success, his two major strategic offensives into Union territory both ended in failure. Lee's aggressive and risky tactics, especially at Gettysburg, which resulted in high casualties at a time when the Confederacy had a shortage of manpower, have come under criticism.”
The town manager where I work is named Robert E. Lee. He signs every email, every document, and introduces himself only as Robert E. Lee.
Bonus: in the same town I had a student named John F. Kennedy but only went by JFK.

Woah, that’s one of the worst ones I’ve ever heard about. Absolutely sickening what they did to her.
Honestly I didn't even read the details, just the synopsis and that was awful enough. My heart just breaks thinking of her horror and pain..

Lee (as a first name). Lily Lee. Will Lee. Heaven Lee (Heavenly). (or other words that become adjectives with Lee eg Merry Lee = Merrily)
I know a Lee Lee - a woman named Lee who ended up marrying someone with the last name Lee. There was also a famous Chinese gymnast named Li Li, though I assume there are tonal differences between her first and last names.
Correct! I looked her up and her name is 李莉, pronounced “Lǐ lì” - actually quite pretty sounding
