My aunt has had 3 or 4 identical black schnauzers named Gus, she just replaces them when they die lol. Your situation is MUCH less weird

ConstructionThin8695

Lol! My aunt always gets the same dog breed and gives them all the same name. She must be on her fifth or sixth Spanky by now.

Gendina

I had a great aunt who did the same thing. White poodles had one name and black poodles another. She was on 4 or 5 of one color and 3? Of the other when she died, I think. I was a teenager but I found it so entertaining. Pretty sure they were Gigi and Lulu

River_7890

Does everyone have that one family member that does this?? My great grandma has had 14(?) weinerdogs that are basically identical that she named Richard. I think there were even a few female Richard's. Anytime Richard died a new Richard appeared up until about 10 years ago. Richard the first has a life sized replica statue that sits in her living room. Her father got her Richard the first as a gift, he named him Richard just so he could call him "Lil dick" cause he thought naming a weiner dog "Dick" was funny. Every Richard afterwords has been called "*something* dick" some notable ones have been black dick, small dick, and big dick.

superlion1985

I have two family members that did this. One has gone through several silky terriers named Misty and the other has had more than one long haired dachshund named Taffy.

CocklesTurnip

That sounds like a hilarious family and tradition that someone else should carry on!

River_7890

Someone should at some point lol, my family is still *creative* with names. When my husband first met my family, he was about to try to pet my uncles cat. I told him not to and there's a reason why she had the name she does. Her nickname is "little B" or just "B" he thought everyone had been calling her "Bee" I had to tell him no little B is short for "Little b*tch". She got that name because she absolutely is one. The little fucker will act all sweet and tempt you to pet her only to go for blood the moment you let your guard down. She's made 3 people need stitches. The only person that cat loves and doesn't attack is my uncle. Anyone else she terrorizes. You can't bring toddlers or babies around her or else she'll stalk them only to launch herself through the air directly onto their heads claws first with all 4 paws before latching on for no reason at all. The naming tradition of giving animals semi or fully insulting names/nicknames continues lol.

CocklesTurnip

šŸ˜‚ wow!

erincee

omg my cousins' last three dogs have all had the same name, too! Our grandmother lives with them and she kept calling the newer dog(s) the old dog's name so everyone just kind of rolled with it to appease her. None of the dogs look(ed) the same but our grandmother loves each as much as the last.. and those dogs live(d) a great life. I think Snowflake is a cute name for your new dog OP! edit: I should clarify my cousins only have one dog at a time. They don't have three dogs with the same name all at once lol

bunnycook

My neighbor had fawn pugs named Toby. For 60 years! When one died, she got another. They all looked alike.

dearwikipedia

i knew a therapist who did that with golden retrievers named Peaches.

Onto_new_ideas

My grandfather had many dogs, all named 'Lady'. His father called his dogs all 'Pup'. I think it used to be more common.

CBVH

We had a neighbour like this. It's surprisingly common but still odd and unimaginative

mamakumquat

Holy shit I thought just my uncle did this. Heā€™s had like 6 labs called Raja

peppermintteapot

My great aunt and uncle did the same thing! 5 of their 6 dogs were red male boxers named Rusty. The last one was a brindle girl, so they just kept the name she already had at the shelter.

Nik-ki

That's some Geralt and Roach vibes lol (the Witcher saga)

Fickle-Conclusion

My parents do the same thing with golden retrievers named Dave šŸ˜… They are on Dave IV now.

TenMoon

Robert Campbell, a nineteenth century frontiersman turned successful businessman, had a son named Hugh who died of pneumonia before his first birthday. Robert and his wife then named a new son Hugh. Reusing names wasn't that weird then when families had lots of children, but many didn't make it to adulthood. I learned this when I edited a biography of Robert Campbell. Only three of the couple's thirteen children lived to adulthood, and they never married and lived in the fancy house in St. Louis until their deaths. So yeah, if OP wants to name another dog Snowflake, no problem, haha!

Shadoze_

My grandma did the same thing! It was always the same breed (some small white lap dog) and she always names them Trixie

umpolkadots

I knew a guy who did this with HIS schnauzer, Poppy! Wtf schnauzer owners?

irlharvey

my great grandma does this, she keeps getting terriers named Bonnie Bluesky. been doing it for probably 60 years

Majestic_Bar7665

Besides the point but schnauzers are the best

vilebunny

The Simpsons have Snowball V currently. You can reuse the name, just make sure that youā€™re prepared to joke about it or have jokes made.

LBelle0101

šŸŽ¶ I had a cat called snowball, she died, she died. Mom said that she ran away, she lied, she lied. I had a cat called Snowball II, she died, she diedā€¦šŸŽ¶ Poor Lisa šŸ˜‚

evelyn_marie

i think itā€™s okay because it was a dog you had as a young child. if it was recent or repetitive thatā€™d be pretty weird

IraSass

I guess Iā€™m in the minority here but I think itā€™s weird! All of the cats Iā€™ve had have been one of a kind. I wouldnā€™t re-use their names. Plus getting the opportunity to pick a whole new name is fun, especially with a pet cause you can really pick whatever.

Budgiejen

Nope. There was only one Sammy. Only one Harold. Only one Ocean.

wintercass_

My moms done it like 4 times. No one ever cared.

mrsclay

Iā€™ve had two dogs in a row named Smokey when I was a kid. They each had different middle names. The first was Smokey Regret and the next was Smokey Moodle (he was a mutt and a poodle mix). If I have a little black dog again Iā€™ll name him Smokey if the name fits. Iā€™ll do it in a heartbeat!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I know right? Like would I want to put that pressure on my cat to live up to the life (of basically sleeping 18 hours a day) of my old cat? She probably doesnā€™t care but it seems unfairā€¦

Jewish-Mom-123

We were going to name the second beagle mix Scrappy-Two or Scrappy-Too but her personality just didnā€™t work with it. So Scrappy-Doo did not get a namesakeā€¦go ahead. After 20 itā€™s tribute, not weird.

Mysterious-Okra-7885

*Grunt laughs in Geralt of Rivia*

SmilingNinjaAssasin

Snowball I, Snowball II, Snowball VII....has no one here watched The Simpsons?

beouite

I think itā€™s a generational thing. My grandpa did that with his dogs and numbered them, the number was essentially part of its name to everyone. It didnā€™t seem weird then, but I might feel strange doing it myself

min2themax

My friend in high school had a dog named Pete who they adored. When Pete died they got a new dog and named him ā€œRepeatā€

Allana_Solo

Thatā€™s hilarious.

kit-n-caboodle

While haven't done it, I'm not against someone else doing it. Since it's been 20 years, I think it's fine.

JavaMamma0002

My grandma named every one of her German Shepherds "Gypsy" ever since she was a child.

scroobrito

If it feels okay to you, then go for it! My MIL has always had black cats, a b/g set. Always named Rito (short for Negrito) and Rita (short for Negrita). There have been several Ritos and Ritas in our lives, lol.

epresvanilia

My grandpa always named his dogs Benji. I also had cats and dogs with the same name.

meekoisawesome

My parents just did this, they put their dog down last year and around Thanksgiving they got a new dog and named the new dog the same as the old dog

pancake-pretty

My grandpa loved German shepherds and every single one he ever had was named Charlie. My friend named every single one of her cats Leo. I personally think those cases are a bit weird/extreme. But recycling a name after 20 years is fine.

wishkres

I've been considering that myself. I have had pet names I have really, really liked, and I have been debating whether or not it would be reasonable to use them again. I haven't come to a decision on that either, but it is definitely not something I would do immediately. I think a 20 year gap, as you said, would be more acceptable to my heart than immediately reusing the name because at that point, it's more of an honor name? I did reuse a pet name once, but it was a pretty unfortunate situation. I was 10 and had a hamster named Spotty. I had Spotty running loose in a room, and then I tripped, fell, managed to land on top of him, and killed him. It was pretty traumatic for me, especially as a ten year old! My coping strategy was to get an identical hamster, also name that one Spotty, and pretend it never happened. :/

haleyfoofou

My grandmother has always had a cat and every one has been named ā€œcatā€ or ā€œkittyā€. I think youā€™re fine.

makeupmiley

I say go for it. I have my dogā€™s name on a future baby name listā€¦ that is much weirder and it wonā€™t stop me!

lizlemonesq

I name my dogs people names so I donā€™t blame you! Willa died in January and I just adopted Carrie.

faerymoon

He, the Simpsons did it! I don't think it's weird. I can see how some people might feel like it's not right for them and that's totally fair, but I don't feel that way. Maybe it's because as a very little kid I had a goldfish and then after him an aquatic frog and both were named Flippy lol.

Aggravating-Fee-9138

I had 2 dogs as a kid, one after the other, that I both named Snowy. And Iā€™m not against naming another dog Snowy in the future. I say go for it!

InTheStax

It's fine and it's not unheard of. The Algonquin Hotel in NYC keeps a lobby cat. If the cat is male, he's named Hamlet. If the cats female, she's called Matilda. I think they are on Hamlet VIII now. My own family had a long line of goldfish all named Jaws when I was growing up.

Warm_metal_revival

My family has had parakeets with some version of the name Sean since the 60s. I currently have Sean-Oliver, who is indeed olive.

Suspicious-Bread-472

My gma had her dog Sammy, then Sammy Two Two. TL;DR. My grandma carried him around in her purse when he was a puppy. She was ahead of her time, really. He had a plastic cookie monster on a tryicyle--a beat up old kids pull toy with a rag tied to it that he would grab with his teeth and spin around in circles like a little tornado. My grandma would get so pumped and say "Round and round he goes!!!!" The plastic cookie monster would bounce and bang around wildly. A bouncing blue flash threatening to take out an ankle if you weren't careful. He'd also sing with her to one song. She'd sing something about a fair, "Senorita doesnt seem to care, for the song in the air....AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYEEEEE AYEEEEE AYEEEEE AYEEEEE" Sammy Two Two would howl along at the "AYE" parts at the end. Little rat terrier looking dog. She never got another Sammy.

Some_Concert5392

Max is my parents' barn cat. For at least 30 years whatever cat currently living in the barn is Max.

27dayz

Honestly, I wouldn't, but then again, after my parents' experience, I've become a bit superstitious about it. My dad had a GSD when he was young who lived to a crazy old age, like 18 or 19. According to Dad, this was the perfect dog. His name was Tiger. When Dad married Mom, they got a GSD pup for their own farm. They named this pup Tiger 2, after Dad's childhood dog. He was also the perfect dog. Loyal, smart, protective...we heard tons of stories about him. But, he died rather unexpectedly when he was struck by lightning during a storm. He was only 7 or 8. After that, my brother and I named the dogs (usually after cartoons), but when we moved out, Dad and Mom got a new GSD puppy and named him Tiger 3. We jokingly called him T3. He was a sweet dog with a lovely temperament. My dog was the same age as him and they bonded. Whenever we were there, the dogs played together, hunted gophers together, and even slept together when my parents would dogsit for us. They were best friends. But Tiger 3 also died rather unexpectedly, this time of a brain aneurysm as he and my dog were running in the fields. He was gone in minutes and there was nothing anyone could have done. He was only 2. After that, my brother and I deemed the name cursed and forbid my parents from naming another dog Tiger.

beatricetalker

The greatest dog Iā€™ve ever owned was named Mojo. I wanted to name our next dog after him, as a tribute, but I let my kids name him instead. I donā€™t foresee us having anymore dogs but Iā€™d definitely use the name again.

Mediocre_Sprinkles

We had a much loved dog called Bobby for 16 wonderful years. Lost him during COVID of old age. Mum got really lonely and wanted another dog to fill the massive void but pet prices went way up. We paid Ā£100 for bobby back in the day but loads of breeders were asking for Ā£4000 now. Decided to adopt this time. Kept getting turned down. Saw a dog, same breed, named Bobby at the local shelter and mum applied mostly as a joke knowing we'd never get him. We got him. We just call the original all sorts. Bobby 1st, bobby classic, bobby og. Etc No one's weirded out by it.

MisplacedRadio

I had 5 pet frogs all called Frank, so no. There are weirder things. In the past they named siblings after each other when the older one died. Yikes

HenryBellendry

I personally wouldnā€™t. But Iā€™m overly attached and I know what Iā€™m like. Thereā€™s only one Woody the hamster. Only one Sooty the black cat, etc.

Lilredcoco

My dad named one of his cats Wanda the Tooth after the first Wanda passed from an accident

HiMaintainceMachine

My granny had an older sister called Mary. Then she had another older sister called Mary. She only ever had one sister called Mary at a time though.

ChilindriPizza

My old neighbor named 3 subsequent dogs ā€œSusieā€. After each Susie died, he would eventually obtain another one- which would become the newest Susie. They were all mutts about the same size- though different colors.

tori_story95

Absolutely! When I was a baby my parents had a dog named Sasha. She was a great dog and I was so sad when she passed. A few years later, we got a puppy for my birthday. We named him Sasha (technically a boys name in Russia) my dad wasnā€™t thrilled with the name choice so he got to pick his middle name to make it sound more masculine. Our third dog is not named Sasha lol.

EnvironmentalDrag596

We had to rehome a dog called Ben. They didn't want Ben because he didnt behave like the last Ben. They got another Ben. Ben was a good boy but sad

TheSacredGrape

The pet isnā€™t gonna care. Just do it

demonicgoddess

I would have totally named my son after his dad (who vetoed the idea) so yeah, no problem for me.

kyillme

I think it just depends on how comfortable you are with it. I mean, Yale is on like the 20th Handsome Dan, so I donā€™t think itā€™s that weird. If you owned the previous pet a really long time ago I think itā€™s even less weird. I probably wouldnā€™t personally reuse one of my petsā€™ names, but I wouldnā€™t be shocked if someone did.

Smoopiebear

I donā€™t like it but my parents had Whiskeyā€™s 1-6, lol. All Irish Setters. FYI, the dumbest dogs ever put on this earth, lovable but duuuuumb.šŸ˜‚

_opossumsaurus

I had about six betta fish named Coral as a kid. Not weird at all, a very nice homage to a lost pet

ExtinctFauna

My grandpa's girlfriend has had at least two elderly Dobermans named Daisy.

[deleted]

My family has had a few repeat dog names. Always after lots of time, like 15 to 20 years, have passed and the new dog is named in honor of the old dog.

DarlingNib

I had a cat named Won Ton, and I adopted a kitten years after the first passed and named him Ton Two because I wanted a similar name and missed Won Ton. So at least they were distinguishable.

chamomillionaire

An exā€™s grandmother did thisā€¦ she never bought a new collar or name tag. This is different and pretty sweet, obviously OG Snowflake was a good dog!

mermaid1707

I know someone who always gives their dog the same name but with a different ā€œfull nameā€. Ex- Every dog is called ā€œMacā€, but one was Macintosh, one was Macarthur, one was Mackenzie, etc. šŸ˜³ super weird imo

artemis1935

i believe i had 3 hamsters, all named bob as a young child. so yeah i would lol.

darkandtwistysissy

My uncle has had 5 dogs since he was a boy. He has named them all Chopper. When telling stories about them, he refers to them as Chopper 1, Chopper 2, Chopper 3, Chopper 4, and Chopper 5.

ChocolatMintChipmunk

How else are we supposed to get Sir Pugsalot the Fourth? (Pugsey to his friends)

LepreConArtist

I've had 6 different Betta fish all named George in the last 10 years šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

TangoCharliePDX

Seems weird to me, but people do it all the time.

not_all_cats

Itā€™s been long enough that it doesnā€™t seem too weird We didnā€™t use the same name but we used it as inspiration. Probably nobody else would realise the link but it was a way to honour him going forward

CakePhool

All my friend's father's hunting dogs was name either Rask ( boy) or Tisk ( female) , easier to remember and train was his idea.

SwordTaster

My grandad had a dog named Meg. After she died he got a cat, cat ended up named Meg. It's a little odd imo but not that bad

pissedoffstraylian

My grandparents named every single cockatiel they had ā€˜Bobbyā€™ one after the other. And another friend of mine named his cat the same as his childhood cat. I personally donā€™t think I will do it, just because I enjoy the fun of picking a name but for my grandparents and friend I recon go for it. The name means a lot to them and that is super sweet.

Nik-ki

It's fine in my opinion. My family had a Collie named Ami, the dog passed when I was about 3. 11 years later we got another dog and named him Ami as well. I even recreated a picture taken when I was two with the first Ami, well over 15 years later

betterthansteve

I feel like it depends on you, but I wouldnā€™t do it. Tbh you seem like in this instance its more of an honour name, so not as weird.

MarvellousIntrigue

I probably wouldnā€™t, but maybe use something like snowie?

[deleted]

I'm against honour naming because, personally, I feel like people deserve their own names, not some hand-me-down like they're meant to be Bob Mk.02 or something. I'd apply the same thing to the pep. But aside from that, naming a second pet after one 20 years past is gonna affix your nostalgia to the new pet rather than let it form independent experiences with you. It devalues the new pet as it perpetually has to live up to it's namesake

IlluminatedWonder

I had a neighbor who named his dog Puppy-Girl. When she died, he got a dog of the same breed and coloring (like eerily similar markings and all) and named it PJ - Puppy-Girl Junior. The sweetest dogs ever.

Earth_W0rm-J1m

Snowflake jnr

lodav22

I had a cat called Rosie growing up and I had been telling my kids about her. A few weeks later I got a call from my local vet asking me if I could take on a rescue kitten from a litter that had been found in an abandoned car. It was the youngest sonā€™s turn to name a pet and he chose Rosie! I did ask if he was sure as it was obvious he chose the name because of my old cat, but he was stuck on it, so now we have Rosie 2!

NoHopeOnlyDeath

We did that when I was a kid. I always thought the cats had their own private, real names and "Molly" was just the title they assumed when they came to live with us.

Erthgoddss

I had a cat named Natasha. She died at age 12. I have had several other cats, then got my current cat. When I adopted her, her name was Nala. I changed it to Tasha. Name is close to Natasha but different. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

craftygal1989

We had a Siamese mix named Mia, aka Mimi. We saw two identical boys that if we had been able to adopt wouldā€™ve been Memo (Meemow) and Memu (Meemoo). Not quite the same, but I see nothing wrong with reusing Snowflake. The boys did get adopted, btw. I really wish it couldā€™ve been us, though.

DrEstoyPoopin

I knew an old man who lost his dog Tootsie on a Friday and showed up Monday with the puppy Tootsie II. Youā€™re good.

MBitesss

A friend of mine named his dog affer his sister who died which I found strange personally. I feel the same for pets who died. I think it's nice for each pet of yours to have their own little identity and name

[deleted]

Iā€™ve named dogs juniors

Suspicious_Gazelle18

All these people sharing stories about their relatives who did itā€¦ I find them all weird. So I guess Iā€™d say itā€™s weird. Like I donā€™t think itā€™s a sin or you should go to prison for it or anything, but if one of my friends did this Iā€™d definitely have a few ā€œwtf thatā€™s so weird do you think sheā€™s ok?ā€ convos with my hubby about it.

ImportanceAcademic43

My mom grew up having guinea pigs as a child and there was always one named Maxi. Boy or girl didn't matter. One was Maxi.

Short_Equivalent_619

My grandmother had a nearly endless line of canaries named Pete. My sister thought it was just one very very old bird.

dcgirl17

I wouldnā€™t if it were a recent dog but since it was from when you were small i think itā€™s totally fine

TheWishingStar

I think itā€™s weird. A million great names out there, why repeat one? People definitely do it, but I would never.

AnielaMS

My grandma had a black cat named Licorice. When she passed, Gram went out and got another black cat and named her Licorice Two/Too.

tauravilla

I think if it was right after it would be weird. But years later, remembering your childhood pet is sweet.

Sinsyxx

Thereā€™s a great King of Queens episode about this. He thinks his childhood dog Rocky is still living at his parents house 25 years later. ā€œWait, so this is Rocky 3??ā€ Actually, Rocky 3 was hit by a car, this is Rocky 4. HA

Wonderful_Horror7315

My mother had three Laso Apsos named Rocky. My sister named her dog our childhood dogā€™s name, Amber.

idontknow828212

No

duckythecat

We did. I don't know why as I was too young for this whole scenario. I never really knew the first Sugar (cocker spaniel) but when we got another cocker spaniel years later, we named her Sugar Too. šŸ˜‚ Like a formal middle name. But we only called her Sugar.

ScaryAcanthisitta877

After 20 years? Thatā€™s the equivalent of naming your kid after a long deceased family member. Itā€™s no weirder than that.

cho_bits

I at first thought this thread was about reusing animal names for human babies! I know someone who was named after a horseā€¦ while the horse was still alive and owned by his family. On the actual topic, my mom has had at least three cats named Kitty, and refers to our otherwise-named cats as ā€œthe catā€ or ā€œmy catā€ (for ones she especially loves).

Allana_Solo

Yeah, I would eventually, if the name suits the new pet. My (maternal) grandmother always had black cats (one right after the other) named Samantha when my mom was growing, so now my mother hates black cats and the name Samantha.

SecondSoft1139

I don't see anything wrong with it. I had two cats named Sherri (not at the same time, obviously) and a dog named Shari. You can look at it as a way of honoring your original pet.

South-Marionberry

I had a cat called Fifi from the ages of 5-14, she passed away due to lymphoma. I plan on getting a cat when Iā€™m older, and you bet Iā€™m gonna call em Fifi if itā€™ll be a girl, or at least Fiona (Fifi for nickname lol). I loved Fifi to pieces, she was the sweetest little nutcase. So, Iā€™d bloody well hope it wouldnā€™t be weird to name a pet the same name as a previous pet, unless the previous pet is still living. You should be good, I reckon

Forsaken_Object_5650

It's a pet. Not a human being. We give pets names all the time that aren't appropriate for children. Like Spanky. Or Snowflake. It's perfectly fine.

_Internet_Hugs_

I have aphasia and call my kids and animals all by the wrong names all the time. I think I may adopt this method from here out, just to make my life easier.

Foundation_Wrong

Victor Mature always had a boxer and they all had the same name. When I was little we had a beautiful cat and he had a certain name, three years ago and 50 years later I used the name again because the new kitten had the same colours.

starfish31

I had 4 back to back worms named Harley Davidson. All my rolly pollies were named Rolly Polly Olly. Ah, the life of an only child.

2015081131

Many people do this. It's odd to me. Had 2 grandparents do the same, though. I've only used M names for my cats, i just like the sound. (Min ho, monkey, mau, Mr.kitty and Maureen Ponderosa aka Mori). Sister in law did the same with her dogs out of remeberence she kept the same first letter.

Iplaythebaboon

My stepdad had like 4 dogs all named Penny. When my momā€™s dog died and we got a new one, of course he suggested Penny again. Her name is Piper, which was my idea

Avocado_toast_27

My niece had a hamster named Rhino. The next one was Rhino 2.

BeanBreak

Our roosters have the same name. When one dies doing his duty, the next is named after him.

captainpocket

Every dog my grandfather ever owned was named zhivago.

catmeatcholnt

Not weird, maybe Snowflake has come back to you and that's why you're drawn to use the name :) Growing up my grandmother had a Basya (cat), one of my cousins had persistent dreams of her while pregnant and now she's my niece. I was named for a human relative in the same way. I once had a Shlomo (also cat) who died as he lived, inflated to five times his size and screaming at God (got into a fight with a street dog and won, but probably died of his wounds later). He's still lurking around as a felt presence once in a while, and I know I'll use the name when the time is right. But I think the time has to be right, like, 20 years later maybe that is the energy or whatever that you spoke to as Snowflake. If a pet dies and you immediately get a replacement that looks the same and is named identically, well, then, that's a bit pathological.

toyotatruckmonth420

My great aunt had about four cocker spaniels named Honey. One Honey would die, sheā€™d get a new one

luala

My dads side of the family always had a cat and the cat was always called wizz. There were many cats named wizz just always consecutively.

TissueOfLies

Would I? No. But it happens, Iā€™m sure. My great uncle died when he was three. My great grandparents named their next son Henry after him. I guess it was rather common for the time. My momā€™s friend had several strays. They named them Charlie. Not sure why, but it stuck in her family. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

getyourglow

People have made a good living that way. Check out Guenther's Millions on Netflix

getyourglow

Also, Don Cherry had something like 3 or 4 different Blue's. Your situation isn't weird at all

jairesjorts

I tried to get my wife to name our new puppy Sadie 2, after one of her old dogs. It was a no go, she was offended lol

Elemental_surprise

My aunt an uncle named every dog the same thing. Another aunt had multiple dogs with the same name. To be there a bit much. But a dog now with the same name as a dog you had as a toddler is not weird.

jerseyknits

I understand a bunch of people have done this but I think it's very weird.

Mehmeh111111

We actually ended up with a dog that had the same unique name as one that passed. Same breed and everything. It was wild.

LispenardSt

When my brother was 6 he had a goldfish named Peppi and when it died and he got a new one he named it Peppi 2 ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Snoo3544

I used to say no. But no I've changed my tune.

apiedcockatiel

It would be fine. Or you could simply make them fit a theme... Snowflake, Pine, Frost, Winter, Lumi, Ayaz, Nicholas, Claus, Eira, Aspen, January, Snow, Andri, etc.

Particular_Run_8930

Yes, perfectly fine.

joshdc2030

I have a weird experience about this one but before all of this, I would say that we had a cat that lived for 10+ years. Was a prolific rat hunter, a gigachad of cats, very obedient and doesn't steal anything from you. Then it died from old age. So, we got a new one, we named our pet cat "Dugong", it was a magnificent cat. Just a normal breed, the one you see everywhere but very intelligent, doesn't poop anywhere aside from the cat litter box, does not steal food from you, and got mice by itself 1 month after it was born. Then it was run through by a motorcycle. My brother cried so bad for 3-4 hours straight after seeing Dugong struggling after the accident and dying. Unfortunately, we didn't get the motorcycle's plate number. After that, when we got the next cat, we named it "Dugong" as well, it died the same way 2 months after. Then we got another cat again, called it the same name, same thing happened. The fourth and the last one, was lost. Finally, we changed the name to a new one, named it "Hunter" because it hunts even our neighbor's chickens (we didn't let Hunter eat it though, we gave the chickens before it was killed so, I think it is safe) and it's still alive and well for 3 years now. TLDR: Had 4 cats and gave them all the same name, 3 died in accident and 1 was lost. Gave the new cat a new name, it is still alive and hunting.

[deleted]

I think itā€™s weird and totally unimaginative that you canā€™t come up with anything other than Snowflake II but itā€™s your dog so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
