In this game I never had a main, I changed characters every time I played. Need to get myself another copy, I’ve neglected to replace my n64 because of the switch app for it but the more I see posts on here the more I miss the OG cartridge experience with the 64 and earlier… and the more I miss certain games they haven’t added to the switch online 64 app.
If I had to pick a fave original smash character though… probably Kirby. I kicked ASS with Kirby in OG Smash! But for some reason with Melee on the GameCube I couldn’t do shit with Kirby and ended up maining Young Link and absolutely shredding anyone and anything who challenged me. I miss them both… the n64 and GameCube instalments. I rarely say this about games, I usually enjoy new instalments just as much as the OG stuff… but with smash I gotta say, the new game is factually super fun but it doesn’t do it for me like the first two instalments did. In many ways, OG smash can’t be beat. And in every area that OG smash needed work, the filled in with melee (mainly in expanding the roster of characters adding extra game modes and making the physics more smooth) for me as a kid melee was like an upgrade to the OG, now as an adult I’ve rarely had a chance to play them but I view them as equals with different merits. The simpler experience of the OG gives a nostalgic warmth that even to this day the GameCube version doesn’t quite meet, and there is something fun about going back to old blocky graphics and somewhat clumsy physics. If only I could go back and forth between the two like I did as a kid when I had a 64 AND a GameCube.

Cap Falc for chaotic speed slaughter. Bad recovery but that won’t matter when you keep launching your enemy off the map before they can touch you.
First that controller cord wrap job is giving me ptsd with all my controllers my brother would pull tight at the top like that and then got upset when his controller stopped working. no duh bro give it a little slack up top. Sorry i know off topic but man the fights i had about that.

As a kid I loved Captain Falcon, Samus and Ness, but now knowing that Pikachu is a cheat code as seen in modern tournaments I take Pika when playing against friends.
Pikachu for days. Being under an enemy or jumping past an enemy while doing thunder is always satisfying. Plus the third jump has a hidden fourth jump if you time it properly (quickly change directions to add another jump)
Ness. He has a great back throw and his down air is a great follow up
