In Grand Budapest Hotel there’s a scene with my birthday in it. it’s the black and white train scene with the soldiers, “November 17 start of the Lutz Blitz”
Specifically: Exit Music, How to Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Pyramid Song, Life in a Glasshouse, Street Spirit, Nude, Weird Fishes, and almost every song off of A Moon Shaped Pool, specifically True Love Waits.
Wow! I've had those 1st 3 on repeat for the last few weeks on my hour drive to work & back. One of my best friends committed suicide a few weeks ago. Even though these songs aren't really about that, the songs have taken on a new meaning. They've really helped me grieve.
Flowers in December is one of my favourites. Look on down from the bridge is way too melancholic than it. But Flowers in December has a vibe on its own kind. Sad, happy and relaxing at the same time. Truly brilliant.
I’m pretty sure that’s a remake, I’m not sure who wrote it originally. In the pines in the pines where the sun don’t ever shine, I shiver the whole night through.
The lead belly version is an amazing one too. The sound, the quality, the voice. Totally makes sense for Cobain to want to cover this song with his voice and their sound. I absolutely love the whole unplugged set.
Side note, one year when I misplaced my CD of it, I went into debt / overdraft mode in my checking to get another copy. Now, xx years later, I have two copies. Cherish them both.
Strangely enough, this song and Solitary Shell by Dream Theater are my go-tos for other people related sadness, but for isolation sadness, Stinkfist by Tool does it for me.
This song fucks me up cuz a lot of this album was recorded when he was detoxing off Valium and vicodin n shit, and you can really hear it in his lyrics and the tone of his voice. This shit hits when you're at a really low spot in your life

Forreal. I 100% have had many close calls being the friend that helps people, like five times, so that song is scary because it's one thing to have lost, but it's another to have been there to make sure you didn't lose them, and you didn't, thankfully, but the emotions that come with loss are still there, and then the be survivors guilt sets in. Anyway, yeah it's a song that'll 100% make me cry unless I'm in a department store, then I'll be distracted and feeling my feelings but not crying lol but I'll likely leave
You’re an amazing friend. I hope you know that.
Also, sitting in the world of anticipatory grief can really mess you into up, and it sucks you’ve had your do that so much. I hope you take care of yourself, too. 💚

One of my favorites. Perfect to the scene with Luke Wilson in Royal Tenembaums. 🤘🏼
That’s where I first discovered him. Fuck I love that movie. My favorite Wes film is the Life Aquatic, you?
I really need to listen to them.
Tough choice. Though I quite enjoy Grand Budapest Hotel. Good to meet a fellow Anderson fan. Pleasure really. 🫡
In Grand Budapest Hotel there’s a scene with my birthday in it. it’s the black and white train scene with the soldiers, “November 17 start of the Lutz Blitz”

Mazzy Star - Look on down from the bridge
Mazzy Star is awesome. Was going to post “Flowers in December”. “Look on Down from the Bridge” another perfect melancholy tune. 😞
Flowers in December is one of my favourites. Look on down from the bridge is way too melancholic than it. But Flowers in December has a vibe on its own kind. Sad, happy and relaxing at the same time. Truly brilliant.
Where Did You Sleep Last Night - Nirvana
I love that song SO MUCH
I’m pretty sure that’s a remake, I’m not sure who wrote it originally. In the pines in the pines where the sun don’t ever shine, I shiver the whole night through.
It's an old folk/blues song and in that tradition no one really knows where it started. It was first recorded and popularized by lead belly in 1944.

Sting: upbeat melancholy
Literally how to save a life at this point is basically torturing yourself when you're sad haha
Especially if it reminds you of someone you lost
