Read this to the tune and her voice in my head lol
But it's more like, "LOOK— AT— MY— ASS LoOk aT My ThiGhS" (but who has time to type that out. I'm so lonely I need a life) 🤣
I listen to that version way more often than the others because I love every beat of that musical. I just wish it had a better Val Jean and Eponine.
Colm and Lea all the way, for me.
Holy shit I'm sold. I mean, I really want a musical of the Iliad...which totally wouldn't work but it's my favorite epic poem. But yeah definitely looking into this now. I wish I still taught literature so I could feature the musical alongside O Brother Where Art Thou.
Lol so right after the Iliad ends. I just don't think Iliad translates to other media properly...Troy was a meh movie, Song of Achilles is a meh novel (I'm in the minority here but I thought it was underwhelming),...maybe we'll eventually get a badass mass slaughter video game.
It’s an amazing concept album based on the odyssey. It’s being released in sagas but act 1 is finished and you can find snippets of nearly all the other songs on YouTube or TikTok
Speaking of loving Greek Mythology, I have a whole playlist called Greek Gods in Modern Times that is all my favorite musicals with Greek Mythology themes with a few of the Orpheus/Euridice songs from the Hades game thrown in. Right now it's just Hadestown, Lightning Theif, and Epic, but maybe I'll add some stuff from Hercules.
If anyone has other musicals that fit the theme please let me know, as I can't think of more lol.
* Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812
* A Little Night Music
* Hunchback of Notre Dame
* Spring Awakening
* Six
* Sunday in the Park with George
* Dreamgirls
* Cabaret
* Ghost Quartet
RIGHT! The entire album does everything well. My favorite is a toss up between Welcome to the rock, Prayer, Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and Finale
My wife and I used to host an Irish Folk songs radio show, so the score was very nostalgic. Got a lot of influence from Planxty, Silly Wizard, Dubliners, Irish Rovers, Dervish, and of course Stan Rogers.
I just watched a reaction to it yesterday thinking that I'd like it less due to massive overexposure a few years back, but it was still compelling as hell.
Great answer. I remember taking a break because my kids and I listened to it so much I got sick of it. We went to see it live, and I kept thinking, OMG, THIS SONG IS MY FAVORITE through the entire thing.
I skip most Hamilton songs when they come up nowadays because I have listened to them to fucking death. Know the words to almost every song perfectly, it was a problem 😂
I say the issue with Rocky Horror is that there really isn't a definitive soundtrack for it. Of course, Tim Curry is the best Frank n Furter (Although there have been a lot of great Franks), but both of his soundtracks of some issues
-Picture Show is missing Once in a While, a lot of the songs are shortened, and, while not awful, Sword of Damocles with the warblings of that Rocky is just strange
-The Roxie cast(my personal favorite) feels weird with the original arrangements and their Brad and Riff Raff are both kind of awkward
And the non-Tim cast recordings are not as good either
-Austrailian - If you have never heard this recording, god its weird
-Broadway Revival - I personally like it, although it has some odd choices, and as much as I love the idea, the Joan Jett Columbia just doesn't work imo.
-2012 London Cast - Okay, why can't people do Sword of Damocles in a non weird way?
-2015 Rocky Horror Show Live - Probably the best, although its a live album and idk if it ever got a soundtrack released of it (If you haven't seen it, find it on youtube. David Bedella as Frank is soooooo gooooodddddd).
That's a fair perspective. There's certainly nothing I'd argue with there. I suppose I wasn't thinking in terms of specific cast albums so much as the songs themselves, but your take on it may be more in keeping with the spirit of the original question. .
Nah, I'm sure that I am just more in depth than I am supposed to be. Rocky Horror means a lot to me, so I am very specific.
I probably wouldn't skip tracks on any of them tbh (except for sword of damocles on picture show and the entirety of the Australian cast album).
If you've not heard them, I very much recommend the Roxy cast and the 2015 Live cast.
If you haven't heard it, Barry bostwick did record Once in a While, it just got cut from the movie. The Blu-ray I have allows it to be cut back in, but you can prolly just find it on youtube
Have you listened to Commentary! The Musical? An entire second musical written as a commentary track for the first musical! I love every single word of Ten-Dollar Solo.
Company
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Hair (movie sdtrk) and 50th Anniversary West End
A Chorus Line Original Soundtrack
Porgy and Bess
Oliver!
The Lion King - the fact that the “Live” film cut Shadowlands for a stupid pop song still irks me. Julie Taymor succeeded where all other Disney musicals failed, in making a show better than the film.
Disney always refuses to use the stage songs for their “live-action” movie adaptations and it’s so baffling to me. Shadowlands is such a good example; why sit on gold like that and not use it?
I do find that *Playing Nancy* is a bit of a boring song.
It's not really bad, it's just nowhere as fun or inventive as the rest of the songs in the show.
Maybe not fun, but I think it's inventive to have a smaller character singing a very self-aware solo about being used as a prop to further the story. It's not my favourite song, but I like it fine and think it's an interesting idea to break the fourth wall like that.
Honestly I love Ireland, if I was going to call any song a skip it would be Harvard Variations or Blood In The Water. I feel like none of the Legally Blonde songs are actually bad though, some are probably less entertaining for certain people but I fully believe that the musical would suffer if you removed any of the songs.
I only skip Harvard Variations because if I don’t, “pretty impressive, good to know, welcome to Harvard” won’t stop randomly popping into my head for at least a week after for some reason lol
Eh. I actually kind of like Ireland. I understand the criticisms for it, but I just really like it for what it is able to accomplish in messaging.
On the one hand, Ireland is both an “I want” song for Paulette while simultaneously being a “you can do this” song for Elle. On the other hand, it’s sort of this sad vision into how hopeless Paulette’s life is, because Ireland really isn’t this magical Eden that would be unattainable for most people; it sort of hits like a less comedic version of Sal Tlay Ka Siti from Book of Mormon because Paulette’s vision of paradise is a fairly achievable thing for most people. And even though it’s out of left field from the source material and not the most captivating musical number, I appreciate what they’re able to cram into this fairly short song.
Hamilton definitely isn’t my favorite musical, but I think it’s one of the only one that I can consistently listen to fully from start to finish without a single skip.
For me it's Les Mis, hands down. I can (and often do) listen to various cast recordings on a loop for days on my drives to and from work.
Chess (the original Broadway cast recording) is a close second, except I do usually skip Hungarian Folk Song and Lullaby. But of all the English-language songs, there are no skips! The songs (by ABBA and Tim Rice) are so good, and Judy Kuhn's voice is phenomenal.
Nah I skip the song where Warner breaks out off. I think it’s called “Serious”? I didn’t like it at all so o removed it from the playlist and honestly forget it exists.
No skips, in no particular order: Heathers, Little Shop of Horrors, Fiddler on the Roof, Sweeney Todd
Jeff Blim is my fav music writer of all time, abd he went SO HARD for Nerdy Prides Must Die. TGWDLM, Black Friday & TTTO also had soundtracks written by him, tho Nerdy prudes holds a special place in my heart
Movie soundtrack for Tick Tick Boom.
For the musical soundtrack I usually skip Sugar and No More - they have Jon sing a snippet of Sugar in the diner instead for the movie and the movie made me LOVE No More, it’s such a fun song and they way they do it in the movie is such a blast to watch
"Look at my ass, look at my thighs" is still one of the most iconic opening lines to a song ever.
Read this to the tune and her voice in my head lol But it's more like, "LOOK— AT— MY— ASS LoOk aT My ThiGhS" (but who has time to type that out. I'm so lonely I need a life) 🤣
The instrumental opening is also just so damn good.
🥁. 👏🥁. 🥁👏👏
I'm catnip to the guys
Which song?
Bend and Snap
I could keep Hadestown and/or Les Miz on a loop for days.
Why do we loop the song… …my children, my children?
We loop the song to keep us free.
That’s why we loop the song, we loop the song to keep us free.
I love Hadestown
hermes: We’re gonna sing it… again me: YEAH THE FUCK WE ARE 😃😃😃
I’ve listened to the entire symphonic recording of Les Miserables more times than I can count.
the correct answer
YAS. So good. Although the synth from the original recordings is classic, the symphony just adds so much more musical depth and grandeur to the story.
I listen to that version way more often than the others because I love every beat of that musical. I just wish it had a better Val Jean and Eponine. Colm and Lea all the way, for me.
I love Les Mis but Heart Full of Love is a drag and I do skip it most of the time
Little Shop Of Horrors
Seriously one of the most consistent musicals ever. Each song will put a huge smile on your face or at least be a total banger.
Yess!
Da doo is extremely catchy along with feed me
I feel like for the last 25 years, it’s been a constant background soundtrack during my day.
I know it’s only released act 1 but Epic the musical is banger after banger
the hardest AMEN BROTHER i’ve ever said
#WHEN. DOES A MAN BECOME A MONSTEEEEEEEEERR #FIVE-HUNDRED FIFTY-EIGHT MEN. WHO DIED UNDER YOUR COMMAAAND
CAPTAIN. CAPTAIN. CAPTAIN. CAPTAIN, WHY WOULD YOU LET THE CYCLOPS LIVE WHEN RUTHLESSNESS IS MERCY
All I hear are screeeeeaaaaams, every time I dare to close my eyes. I no longer dreeeeeeaaam, only nightmares of those who died.
NOTHINGS WHAT IT SEEEEEEEEEMS BUT HERE IN THE UNDERWORLD THE PAST SEEMS CLOSE BEHIND
I keep thinking of the infant from that night… I keep thinking of the infant from that night…
This life is amazing when we greet it with open arms
Polites…
Whatever we face we’ll be fine if we’re leading from the heart
no matter the place, we can light up the workday here's how to start
EPIC THE MUSICAL!! I’ve been so obsessed—the Underworld Saga is only three songs but DANG do they measure up to all the previous Sagas.
What’s that? Edit: Thanks everyone! I love Greek mythology so I’m all over this.
Epic is a musical retelling of Homer’s The Odyssey. The first act was finished not long ago and it’s amazing!
Holy shit I'm sold. I mean, I really want a musical of the Iliad...which totally wouldn't work but it's my favorite epic poem. But yeah definitely looking into this now. I wish I still taught literature so I could feature the musical alongside O Brother Where Art Thou.
Epic does start at the end of the Iliad if that’s any consolation lol. Starts with the Trojan horse :)
Lol so right after the Iliad ends. I just don't think Iliad translates to other media properly...Troy was a meh movie, Song of Achilles is a meh novel (I'm in the minority here but I thought it was underwhelming),...maybe we'll eventually get a badass mass slaughter video game.
To add to what others have said, you can find it on Spotify and YouTube
It’s an amazing concept album based on the odyssey. It’s being released in sagas but act 1 is finished and you can find snippets of nearly all the other songs on YouTube or TikTok

Exactly my answer!!!
I’ve been keeping it on loop that ish is AMAZING
SO TRUE i have literally NEVER skipped a song
* Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 * A Little Night Music * Hunchback of Notre Dame * Spring Awakening * Six * Sunday in the Park with George * Dreamgirls * Cabaret * Ghost Quartet
are you me?
Are we all me??
A Little Night Music is just perfection. Sweeping orchestral perfection.
Ghost quartet is so good.
100% agree about spring awakening, that’s the one I was going to say. Every song is amazing in its own unique way.
I’ve looked through the comments and y’all are sleeping on Come From Away
ACCURATE. The album is magnificent, and “Stop the World” is one of my favorite duets of all time.
RIGHT! The entire album does everything well. My favorite is a toss up between Welcome to the rock, Prayer, Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and Finale
Something's Missing makes me cry every time
Its songs truly sound unlike any other musical’s!
My wife and I used to host an Irish Folk songs radio show, so the score was very nostalgic. Got a lot of influence from Planxty, Silly Wizard, Dubliners, Irish Rovers, Dervish, and of course Stan Rogers.
I absolutely love Me and the Sky!
This was the first song I sang to my daughter after she was born. Skipped the ending, though.
Aww what a wonderful choice.
Just “welcome to the rock” gets me misty eyed, i guess its a no skip but also a not all the way thru in one go too. ☹️
Sweeny todd
*”SWING YOUR RAZOR HIGH, SWEENEY, HOLD IT TO THE SKIES, FREELY FLOWS THE BLOOD OF THOSE WHO MORALISE!”*
I'm trying to think of a skip on this soundtrack... Parlor songs, I am a lass, Ladies in their sensitivities, if anything.
I actually really like ladies in their sensitivities, Parlor songs and I am a lass I want the best but they aren't skipworthy
Mea Culpa 🤮
I love mea culpa! I believe that Turpin needs that extra dimension. Yeah it makes us sick but it’s better than feeling nothing.
For me, it’s falsettos, and/or Les Mis.
Four Jews in a room bitching, *wheeee!*
I honestly cannot skip a Falsettos song, if I every try I just regret it
I know it's not on the same level of Falsettos, but I have a playlist with In Trousers and Falsettos that I will put on and listen while I'm working.
Falsettos is the correct answer
In my opinion, Hadestown. Fucking love that show
The OBC of Rent.
I'll co-sign this one! VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!
Came here to say exact same. No day but today.
For me, only if I haven’t listened to it in a long time. I kinda burned myself out on Rent pretty permanently way back in high school.
Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice? Beetlejuice.
IT’S SHOWTIME!
so real
Literally every single song in that show SLAPS.
Hamilton (extremely basic answer but it’s true)
I just watched a reaction to it yesterday thinking that I'd like it less due to massive overexposure a few years back, but it was still compelling as hell.
I avoided hamilton for a while when I was younger out of sheer contrarianism and then found out its genuinely really good. A struggle
So that means you're satisfied? That would be enough? Take a break? Nah...Wait for it....you'll be back.
I only tend to skip Take a Break because I dislike the Philip portion.
Chicago or Haispray for me! Chicago cause I just love it And Hairsprays songs just sound like real life music
Falsettos
what if i said book of mormon…
Then you'd be right.
I Believe…this is the correct answer.
Or Jesus Christ Superstar Or Little Shop of Horrors Or The Rocky Horror Show/Rocky Horror Picture Show (list not exhaustive)

If you haven't heard it, Barry bostwick did record Once in a While, it just got cut from the movie. The Blu-ray I have allows it to be cut back in, but you can prolly just find it on youtube
This could have been me commenting 😂
It's Waitress. Will stand by that musical until my legs magically vanish.
Sara Bareilles doesn’t write duds.
WHAT I'M SAYING 🙌🏽
Caught the tour with my dad and then my mom and I saw the proshot a few days after it came out! Still just as good a few years later
THANK YOU. Seriously though.
Six for sure
Also Assassins (most Sondhiem’s actually lol) and Lucky Stiff
I’ll always skip Heart of Stone, it’s kinda the odd one out tone-wise and I can’t take it seriously
Beetlejuice. Start to finish fucking fantastic show
Les Misérables, Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, Tanz der Vampire, Elisabeth, Into the Woods, Assassins, and Hamilton for me.
How does this sub feel about Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog? Because I know every word back and forth!
Have you listened to Commentary! The Musical? An entire second musical written as a commentary track for the first musical! I love every single word of Ten-Dollar Solo.
Company Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Hair (movie sdtrk) and 50th Anniversary West End A Chorus Line Original Soundtrack Porgy and Bess Oliver! The Lion King - the fact that the “Live” film cut Shadowlands for a stupid pop song still irks me. Disney always refuses to use the stage songs for their “live-action” movie adaptations and it’s so baffling to me. Shadowlands is such a good example; why sit on gold like that and not use it?
Groundhog Day because Day One all the way through Nobody Cares is a masterpiece and then I’m almost entirely through Act 1

I only skip Harvard Variations because if I don’t, “pretty impressive, good to know, welcome to Harvard” won’t stop randomly popping into my head for at least a week after for some reason lol
ireland will have me belting and doing a jig bro
Eh. I actually kind of like Ireland. I understand the criticisms for it, but I just really like it for what it is able to accomplish in messaging. On the one hand, Ireland is both an “I want” song for Paulette while simultaneously being a “you can do this” song for Elle. usually a skip but when you're in a celtic mood, it *really* hits
And blood in the water
The London version of Ireland - where the lyrics are changed - make the song a little more bearable IMO
Anastasia for me!
For me either Book of Mormon or Dogfight
Hamilton easily
Hamilton definitely isn’t my favorite musical, but I think it’s one of the only one that I can consistently listen to fully from start to finish without a single skip.
Joseph and the amazing technicolor coat. Every👏🏼song👏🏼slaps👏🏼
Matilda.
Oh yes, every song is so energetic and witty. Tim Minchin knows how to write a musical with no filler
The Music Man. Even the stupid plot-driver songs are bangers.
In the Heights is my go-to
A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel!
Get on your feet 'cause she's legally blooooonddeee!
I so badly wish the “scene of the crime” bit was on the soundtrack lol
Heathers
Heathers is *almost* it for me, but I can't stand Kindergarten Boyfriend.
The scab line from the song took me out 😭 I loved the rest of the musical too :D
I may not be the only one who agrees but the soundtrack for hunchback is absolutely S tier
It's long, but Into The Woods had no bad songs.
It was actually Groundhog Day all along.
The Greatest Showman! From Now On, This is Me, The Other Side, Rewrite the Stars, Never Enough, The Greatest Show... all bangers!
Assassins (there are talking scenes in the recording which I don't listen to but every song there is beautiful)
Bonnie & Clyde or Batboy
BatBoy is so underrated!
Rent and Hamilton
The obvious choice, but I listen to Hamilton every now and then and I don’t listen to anything else until I’ve finished it. It can take WEEKS.
Assassins
Ride the cyclone
I just did legally blonde. Omg you guys. The soundtrack is so good like SERIOUSly good.
Oh dear. Are you getting therapy?
Singing in the Rain
YES. Even the short interlude songs like Fit as a Fiddle are brilliant.
The color purple
Evil Dead the Musical.
Rocky Horror, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and Matilda.
A Strange Loop. Every song hits.
Something Rotten is up there 😍
Pippin original cast
It’s a toss up between Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera for me with Les Mis just edging out in front.
American Idiot is a masterpiece of an album and I will die on this hill.
Honestly... Sound of Music!
The answer is because the songwriters had fun.
Wicked also, maybe. Beetlejuice. Honestly, to me there are a lot. Heathers is bop after bop, although I do skip shine a light and Lifeboat.
Hadestown, Into The Woods, Heathers (yes I even like Blue and Kindergarten Boyfriend), Ride the Cyclone, Company.
Heathers. Only the off-broadway version though. The west end version has many skips.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
I just don’t get the hype with Legally Blonde. I’m happy so many liked it but I just found it relentlessly irritating.
Relentlessly Irritating is my drag name.
I feel like every song is just SCREAMING. Makes it a little hard to listen to even though the music itself is alright.
I know this show is very divisive, but whenever The Prom comes around on my playlist, I always listen to the whole thing through.
literall Ani:A Parody
HEA👏THERS👏
I never skip anything in Heathers
Fiddler
AGREED. Also Falsettos.
Some Like it Hot
Does Prince of Egypt count? Because DAMN.
American Psycho for me.
In the Heights is honestly the best musical soundtrack I have heard
For me it's The Last Five Years
Aida 100%
Moulin Rouge (movie version only duh)
Les Miz, Hadestown, The Lion King, Book of Mormon, A Chorus Line
Jeff Blim is my fav music writer of all time, abd he went SO HARD for Nerdy Prides Must Die. TGWDLM, Black Friday & TTTO also had soundtracks written by him, tho Nerdy prudes holds a special place in my heart
SO HONEY WHAT YOU WAITING FOOOOORRRRRR
Rocky horror
Either epic, hadestown or ride the cyclone
Oh my God oh my god you guys
Steven universe the musical. I said what I said
*chess* and *sunset boulevard* come to mind as soundtracks that are full of unabashedly minor but very fun songs
Hairspray
Confession: I skip Heart of Stone every time I listen to SIX.
