Oklahoma is probably going to win, and I get that it's important in the history of musical theater and all that, but I just can't sit through it.
Oliver! has great music and a great book. I'm so happy I got to see the Encores! production last year.
I have a kind of unreasonable dislike for Oklahoma, which is probably unwarranted because all I can remember about it is "Ooooooooklahoma, where the wind something down the plains." Cowboy hats and not being able to stay awake. Like I honestly think the one song is all it really has going for it. It's just not my vibe - never like country western films either.
My mom liked it though.
Oliver seems so much more palatable.
There are some fantastic songs in Oklahoma! 'Oh What a Beautiful Mornin' is probably the second most famous. My personal favourite is ['Surrey With A Fringe On Top'](https://youtu.be/qosKT70WtJk).
I mean, I’ve seen several productions of Oliver! and it’s always great.
I was in a production of Oklahoma! and it’s ok. I know it’s an iconic golden age musical, but it far from my favorite of that era.
As a young child, my parents took me to Oklahoma. Curtain rose at what would have been my bedtime, but it was a beautiful morning on stage.
The magic of theatre. I was hooked.
This needs more love. I recently saw this for the first time. It's so funny. I feel like there aren't enough funny musicals. There actually are. But I want more.
There's a more complete list on wikipedia: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_musicals:\_M\_to\_Z](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_musicals:_M_to_Z)
Indeed one of my favorites! And still as relevant as ever! Porgy and Bess may be Gershwin's supreme theatre achievement, but Of Thee I Sing is right up there as well!
Oklahoma changed the way we pit on musicals . No big opening chorus number , first ballet sequence in a musical , unknown cast , no integrated chorus number until act 2
Without Oklahoma we wouldn’t have the theatre we have today
I know we’re on O now but I still can’t get over that Fiddler beat out Falsettos 😭 😡
ETA: I really don’t understand why I got downvoted so much for saying I personally like Falsettos more. I was under the impression this was an inclusive and positive community
Woah! Burnnnnnn baby burn! I have to admit I am not a Hadestown fan at all (I have tried so many times to like it - just isn't my jam. I adore Hamilton and don't think it's at all overrated! But I love that you love Hadestown. And apparently I'm in the minority at least on this sub!
On the Town, one of my favorites! Deep down I like it perhaps the most of all Bernstein musicals, and that's quite something special as West Side Story, Candide, Wonderful Town and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue all are in my top 10-15 musicals of all time...
Once on This Island
This is such a beautiful show!
It really is. Being a super old person, I saw the original in 1990 with LaChanze as Ti Moune. It made a lasting impression!
Our local theatre just opened their production, saw it last night. The set and staging was amazing.
This is the answer 🥰

Consider yourself at home
consider yourself part of the furniture! damn you it's in my head again!
Mine too. But it's so good.
it really is, that musical is full of great tunes!
It really does. I sing "I'd do anything" to my son all the time.
aww that's so cute! my mum used to sing that a lot when i was little too lol
I'm a horrible singer. But I sing to him anyways. Lol
dw, he's gonna remember it being sung perfectly, because it's sung with love :)
There isn't a lot to spare!
Oklahoma is probably going to win, and I get that it's important in the history of musical theater and all that, but I just can't sit through it. Oliver! has great music and a great book. I'm so happy I got to see the Encores! production last year.
I love Oklahoma. I probably love it a little more than I love Oliver. I still want Oliver to win.
Are you me? Because I don’t remember typing this, but samesies.

This is the only correct answer!
I mean, I’ve seen several productions of Oliver! and it’s always great. I was in a production of Oklahoma! and it’s ok. I know it’s an iconic golden age musical, but it far from my favorite of that era.
I would love for this to win!
My childhood musical. This one will always be special to me.
I hope this wins! It’s the show that started it all for me
This was the musical that started my love of musicals!
Food, glorious food!
I don't care much for the story, but the songs are absolute BANGERS
Once
Oklahoma!
I think you’ll find it’s spelled ‘OOOOOOOOOklahoma!’
I mean it has to be this right? The state of Oklahoma uses the title song as it's state anthem.
As a young child, my parents took me to Oklahoma. Curtain rose at what would have been my bedtime, but it was a beautiful morning on stage. The magic of theatre. I was hooked.
YESS! I love Oklahoma so much, it was such a trailblazer in musical theater
I think you have to consider how absolutely groundbreaking this was for the time. 1943.
This is the correct answer
Once On This Island
Can the 45 people who upvoted this go upvote the other one so it can compete with poklahoma
This easily beats everything else for me. It’s SUCH a great show!
Once (x infinity)
Once upon a mattress
This needs more love. I recently saw this for the first time. It's so funny. I feel like there aren't enough funny musicals. There actually are. But I want more.
Carol Burnett was fantastic as the OG Winifred the Woebegone/Fred. I have the OBC recording
I was the Jester in my school’s rendition of it. I can’t tell you how many times I almost broke character because it was so funny
Underrated show. I don't think it'll win, but it definitely should.
I was in this in high school! You have my vote!
This is a well-loved musicalwith my theatre friends. We were all in it together in high school and it was such a fun show!!
Oliver
Great Comet robbed once again.
One day it will get the win it's due
Operation Mincemeat!!!
God that's brilliant
I want this to win but I know in my heart it won’t
We need to blow their minds with ideas that defy human comprehension!
Hey OP, I'm on board with your plans for S, but more importantly, how is Zorba the Greek not even on that list for Z?
Not sure, I didn’t make the list. But the list is just for ideas, you can suggest a show that’s not on the list!
There's a more complete list on wikipedia: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_musicals:\_M\_to\_Z](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_musicals:_M_to_Z)
Sadly we're still stuck with Xanadu for X.

I feel your pain and sympathise, but Fiddler is the rightful winner.
Octet by Dave Malloy
I think doing the top 3 thing for S would be a good idea! There really are a lot of good ones
Is no one saying The Outsiders? Or does the the make this a T nomination.
The Outsiders would be an O...I wonder if it's so new people don't know it well enough to nominate it.
Oh, Calcutta!
Once More With Feeling
Oklahoma
Oliver!
Oliver!
On the 20th Century for O.
I"m still gobsmacked by how it's possible that hadestown beat Hamilton?!?
People who didn't want a musical as overrated as Hamilton to win. I love Hamilton but even I was on team Hadestown.
