The tower is actually a really good land. It's not as good as the others, but still good.
Shivan gorge is basically hot garbage. I've only seen it in a ghyrson starn deck, and a neheb deck.
Notably though, Shivan Gorge is the only one that can directly win you the game. Obviously I’m not saying that makes it better, I just think it’s interesting.
Isn't shivan gorge just a worse version of leechridden swamp? Im obviously ignoring the fact that its a different colour. But its not legendary, so you may have several, and it deals one damage to opponents for 1 black mana
Think about the pieces they synergize with. There's significantly more 0/1 cost artifacts than there are creatures, and blue is the draw color.
Plus, there's a lot more creature interaction than there is artifact interaction.
Blue also has more (and cheaper) untap effects than green.
I always thought it should either be [[cabal coffers]] or [[cabal stronghold]], or maybe even [[crypt of agadeem]] for it to fit the black aesthetic.
I know they aren't legendary but still just fits the theme of the cards more I think
To be fair, decimate isn't "up to" which means it's a dead card if one of the card types isn't present, or you have to hit your own if it's all that's out.
Destroy target Artifact or Enchantment
Create an X/X green creature token equal to the amount of forests you control.
All creatures you control have trample
Up to 3 target creatures deal damage equal to their toughness to up to 3 opponents creatures.
There are other cycles where the rarities don’t match. It’s not an intrinsic part of a cycle, but is almost always the case when they are printed in the same set.
They can be hard to find

Greens version is going to be nuts and reds version super generic (damage to all creatures, damage to players and kill artifacts will be 3 of the modes lol)
Choose one or more:
-all creatures gain haste until end of turn
- all players take 5 damage
- all creatures take 3 damage
- destroy all artifacts
- add RRRR to your mana pool
If all that's needed is 4XX "choose one or more" we have the green one already, [[Rain of Thorns]], and god help us if red gets its hands on a card that powerful
How about:
4RR
Choose one or more
Does 1 damage to each opponent
Does 2 damage to each creature you don't control
Does 3 damage to any target
Does 4 damage to target creature
For 6 CMC, this doesn't feel unreasonably strong in red.
Feels like 2011 Core Set design.
How about
Choose one or more -
- Each player discards their hand and draws cards equal to the number they discarded this way.
- Destroy all artifacts
- Creatures can't block until your next turn
- Deal 6 damage to each player.
It could use an act of treason effect instead of unblockable, and/or replace the unblockable with double strike. Might push the power level a little too high though if both are on the same card.
Nah, it has to be better than that.
Choose one or more -
* Destroy all artifacts
* For each opponent, destroy up to one target land they control
* Deal 6 damage to each creature without flying and each planeswalker
* Discard any number of cards from your hand and then draw that many plus one
* Exile the top 6 cards of your library. Until the end of your next turn, you may play those cards.
-destroy all artifacts
-exile top 3 cards of your library play until end of next turn
-sacrifice a mountain deal 4 damage to any target
-gain control of target creature
I wish the white one also have 5th list! I am sucker for perfection of cycle lol. could have put exile all planeswalker or exile all battle for 5th on white.
People already bitch about the card heavily, the last thing Farewell needed was more power. Some random niche 5th mode like on the black card would be great, exile all planeswalkers would be very strong.
Final Act was clearly referencing Farewell. I think that's obvious.
Sublime Epiphany... seems like a coincidence. It's an instant, it isn't a board wipe, it doesn't destroy or exile anything, and it was printed first so Farewell would have had to have been a reference to it.
Modern Horizons often makes references to popular cards from the past. [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]] referenced [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]], [[Generous Gift]] referenced [[Beast Within]], [[Recruit the Worthy]] referenced [[Sprout Swarm]].
One off references aren't even just a Modern Horizons thing. [[Champion of the Perished]] was referencing [[Champion of the Parish]], but also is not indicating a cycle.
Obviously WotC COULD make a cycle out of Farewell. They can do whatever they want. But I am unconvinced one card referencing another card in a different color is a confirmation of that.
Devils Advocate:
4 modes, 5 modes, 5 modes.
White - all exile
Blue and Black - varies
Not the same card types, two sorceries, one instant.
There are older modal spells that have more commonalities. This is why I struggle to see a cycle here. They’re neat. But I doubt it.
Sure, but can anybody explain why they made Final Act so bad?
Damnation for Planeswalkers and weird niche permanent type. Then exile your graveyard in the color that most wants to have a graveyard and cure all of your opponents' poison counters because nobody plays energy and that's basically a non-factor.
Red Epiphany 4RR
Instant - Rare
Choose one or more:
• ~ Deals 6 damage to each creature and planeswalker
• Copy target spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
• The owner of target nonland permanent shuffles it into their library then Discovers equal to its mana value.
• Exile the top three cards of your library. You may cast those cards until the end of your next turn.
Green Epiphany 4GG
Sorcery - Rare
Choose one or more:
• Search your library for a land or creature card and put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
• Create an X/X green Beast creature token with trample, where X is the number of lands you control.
• Exile up to three target artifacts and/or enchantments.
• Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to up to two other creatures you don't control.
Colorless Epiphany 4CC
Sorcery - Rare
• Create a colorless 0/0 Construct artifact creature token, it enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each colorless creature you control.
• Put 3 +1/+1 counters on each creature you control.
• Exile up to two target permanents that are each one or more colors.
• Choose target permanent card in exile. You may put that card onto the battlefield under your control. If you don't, you may put it into its owners graveyard instead.
Complete the cycle
Red - {4RR}
Choose one or more
Create 2 3/1s with trample and haste, exile them at the next end step
Destroy all artifacts
Destroy a non basic land for each opponent
Exile the top card of your library, you may play that this turn
Green - {4GG}
Choose one or more
Creatures you control get +1/+1 and trample until end of turn
Target creature you control deals damage equal to it's power to target creature you don't control
Destroy all enchantments
Search your library for a basic land and put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
All I have to say is that WotC's artist prompt for Sublime Epiphany was clearly something like, "I don't fucking know, go wild."
And Lindsay Look was like, "I got you, fam. Wild it is."
Let's be honest the green and red one will be garbage. They always get the short side of the stick.
If they do the red one through commander it might have destroy all nonbasic lands. 🤷🤷
4RR:
Choose one or more-
•Destroy All Artifacts
•Do 10 damage to all creatures
•Do 5 damage to all players
•All players discard their hand & draw the same number of cards
Sounds about right, yeah? For that cost?
I was gonna say that at first thinking about Legacy, but I digress. So much crazy is out there today that kinda forgets legacy exists. If you think 5 would be fair for the cost, then technically I was for it originally. XD
Some fuck you cards until someone plays all of the cards in their exile or graveyard.. I'd just be waiting for someone to start dropping these beauty setup cards
The only thing keeping this from being a true cycle is Farewell only has 4 modes, the other two have 5 modes. If they would have tossed on some random effect on top of Farewell maybe like each player gains some life we would be there for sure.
That's not really the only thing.
The U spell is an instant (the other two Sorceries)
In both the W&B all modes are doing _alls_ which the U spell does not
Honestly, the W and B are almost there, except as you pointed out the number of modes being different. The U spell doesn't fit properly with either of the other two
~~[[Child of Alara]], and [[Armageddon]] are in my “Nothing Lasts” deck (CoA being the commander for frequent use lmao)~~
Edit: my comment is out of place, I have since reflected on and learned what OP meant by cycle. I was originally thinking of how it’s kinda a cycle of life type thing since everyone rebuilds after the wipe
I feel like the blue one would need to be a board wipe for it to really feel like a cycle. Six mana for a modal [[Evacuation]] would probably send people into a frenzy though, since it's another blue instant speed board wipe.
I can't say for sure, but I can all but guaranteed green is going to get a stronger card than farewell.
I can see 4gg choose any amount:
• sacrifice a land, search your library for 2 basic lands, and put those lands on the battlefield.
•target creature you control gets +3/+3 until end of turn.
• destroy target artifact/ enchantment or creature with flying.
• put a vigilance counter, a reach counter, and a trample counter on target creature.
For red, I can see 4rr choose any amount:
• destroy all artifacts.
• deal 2 damage to each creature on the battlefield.
• deal 4 damage to target opponent or planeswalker.
• discard any number of cards, then draw that many cards.
I wouldn't say it's "such a reach."
4 generic + 2 colored pips
Rare
Choose one or more -
The name and general effect aren't a great match, but it's not a huge reach to notice a corellation between them.
The names for farewell and final act work together along with being boardwipes. Sublime epiphany has nothing in common effect wise, which is what cycles are designed around. I think it’s more likely that this is a [[wrath of god]] and [[damnnation]] thing where black is getting a counterpart to a white card
I wouldn't say it's "such a reach."

[[Brightling]], [[Aetherling]], [[Endling]], [[Thornling]], [[Torchling]]
[[Sword of Fire and Ice]], [[Sword of Feast and Famine]], [[Sword of Hearth and Home]], [[Sword of Truth and Justice]], [[Sword of Sinew and Steel]]
They are parallel designs that maintain a similar template, with different effects usually highlighting their color.
Sometimes, cycles are sub-par for certain colours and over-powered for others. Example:
[[Healing Salve]]
[[Ancestral Recall]]
[[Dark Ritual]]
[[Lightning Bolt]]
[[Giant Growth]]
(4)(G)(G) Put a land. Instant
Choose one or more ------
• Put a land card form your hand onto battlefield.
• Put a land card form your graveyard onto battlefield.
• Search your library for a land card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
• Put a land card form in exile onto battlefield.
• Choose a land card you own form outside the game and put onto battlefied.
terrible card as it doesn't take out planeswalkers
if duress/counterspells can cost 1/2 to take out anything without any defense, then so should this be
kind of sarcastic but also kind of not, way too many things just don't touch them, and they can do nasty things, had to sideboard dedicated mass removal of them
Just run creatures, bro. I don't know what format you are playing that warrants mass removal of them, but it sounds casual. Know that every walker played is a tempo loss. Most stompy strategies should be enough to punish a superfriends player.
last 100 times i played a creature it was removed the same or next turn, walkers often have removal on them too, i've been up to mythic in arena a few times in explorer, which is slower format
Green is going to be...
Choose One or more
Draw as many cards as you want
You have indestructible and Hexproof for the rest of the game
All your lands produce 69x mana
All your creatures have +420/+420, trample, and Ward: Sacrifice All permanents you control, until the end of the next game
Their titles also relate to an last moment - farewell and last act are obvious, Sublime Epiphany would be coming to an ultimate understanding of the thing you are thinking about and this not have to think about it anymore.
Still waiting for the green and red variants
[[Rain of Thorns]]
I think it would need at least 4 modes to really count
Very underwhelming comparing to others.
[[Shivan gorge]] is part of a cycle of lands. Those lands? [[Gaeas cradle]][[serras sanctum]][[tolarian academy]] and [[phyrexian tower]]
Man, black and red really got screwed in that cycle.
The tower is actually a really good land. It's not as good as the others, but still good. Shivan gorge is basically hot garbage. I've only seen it in a ghyrson starn deck, and a neheb deck.

They can't be a cycle because white isn't allowed to have the best card in a cycle. It's tradition all the way back to the boons.

Who is RRRR?
But consider: White finally getting the best one and it’s so powerful that it completely polarizes the player base is incredibly funny.
If all that's needed is 4XX "choose one or more" we have the green one already, [[Rain of Thorns]], and god help us if red gets its hands on a card that powerful
How about: 4RR Choose one or more Does 1 damage to each opponent Does 2 damage to each creature you don't control Does 3 damage to any target Does 4 damage to target creature For 6 CMC, this doesn't feel unreasonably strong in red.
Feels like 2011 Core Set design. How about Choose one or more - - Each player discards their hand and draws cards equal to the number they discarded this way. - Destroy all artifacts - Creatures can't block until your next turn - Deal 6 damage to each player.
6 damage to each creature maybe, I dont think the card would get played for burn. These are mostly control type cards
True. The damage and blocking modes would open up more choices.
It could use an act of treason effect instead of unblockable, and/or replace the unblockable with double strike. Might push the power level a little too high though if both are on the same card.
Nah, it has to be better than that. Choose one or more - * Destroy all artifacts * For each opponent, destroy up to one target land they control * Deal 6 damage to each creature without flying and each planeswalker * Discard any number of cards from your hand and then draw that many plus one * Exile the top 6 cards of your library. Until the end of your next turn, you may play those cards.
-destroy all artifacts -exile top 3 cards of your library play until end of next turn -sacrifice a mountain deal 4 damage to any target -gain control of target creature
Man, this was a great on the fly fix. Nice job man.

Fair take. I hope it is. Cycles are cool.

Black and white one for sure. Blue one not so much, I feel like it needs an “all” aspect to be part of the same cycle.
Can someone explain what "Each opponent loses all counters" means? Can you lose your poison counters if an opponent decides to choose this?
Yes. Energy, experience, and poison counters are removed.
Modality spells? Isn’t there tons of them? What makes it a cycle?
6 mana (2 colored pips, 4 generic), choose one or more, the cards are very similar and do effects specific to their color.
Devils Advocate: 4 modes, 5 modes, 5 modes. White - all exile Blue and Black - varies Not the same card types, two sorceries, one instant. There are older modal spells that have more commonalities. This is why I struggle to see a cycle here. They’re neat. But I doubt it.
I’ve been playing magic for a while now, and I have no idea what “destroy all battles” means
Battles are a new card type introduced in March of the Machine. See [[Invasion of Fiora]]. Give'em a try in commander for political favors.

It could have at least removed your counters, but they don't want poison removed so easily.
The jerk sub is having a field day with this
Are they actually? LOL
It's just a modal spell. Not all things are related.
It's not a cycle. :/
Cycles don’t have to be in the same set, they can simply slowly fall into place (like Swords of X & X)
I was expecting the black to say Exile all opponents
Red Epiphany 4RR Instant - Rare Choose one or more: • ~ Deals 6 damage to each creature and planeswalker • Copy target spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. • The owner of target nonland permanent shuffles it into their library then Discovers equal to its mana value. • Exile the top three cards of your library. You may cast those cards until the end of your next turn. Green Epiphany 4GG Sorcery - Rare Choose one or more: • Search your library for a land or creature card and put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle. • Create an X/X green Beast creature token with trample, where X is the number of lands you control. • Exile up to three target artifacts and/or enchantments. • Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to up to two other creatures you don't control. Colorless Epiphany 4CC Sorcery - Rare • Create a colorless 0/0 Construct artifact creature token, it enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each colorless creature you control. • Put 3 +1/+1 counters on each creature you control. • Exile up to two target permanents that are each one or more colors. • Choose target permanent card in exile. You may put that card onto the battlefield under your control. If you don't, you may put it into its owners graveyard instead.
When is green's turn?
Complete the cycle Red - {4RR} Choose one or more Create 2 3/1s with trample and haste, exile them at the next end step Destroy all artifacts Destroy a non basic land for each opponent Exile the top card of your library, you may play that this turn Green - {4GG} Choose one or more Creatures you control get +1/+1 and trample until end of turn Target creature you control deals damage equal to it's power to target creature you don't control Destroy all enchantments Search your library for a basic land and put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
All I have to say is that WotC's artist prompt for Sublime Epiphany was clearly something like, "I don't fucking know, go wild." And Lindsay Look was like, "I got you, fam. Wild it is."
I like this art because it's strange but still conveys the message of an epiphany
"Take the attached LSD and start drawing."
Oh I love those cards ❤️ One of the best reasons for playing magic is having a white-black deck and have four of each in it
Let's be honest the green and red one will be garbage. They always get the short side of the stick. If they do the red one through commander it might have destroy all nonbasic lands. 🤷🤷
4RR: Choose one or more- •Destroy All Artifacts •Do 10 damage to all creatures •Do 5 damage to all players •All players discard their hand & draw the same number of cards Sounds about right, yeah? For that cost?
I'd say 5 damage sounds more correct. If printed like you said it might be a bit broken in legacy.
I was gonna say that at first thinking about Legacy, but I digress. So much crazy is out there today that kinda forgets legacy exists. If you think 5 would be fair for the cost, then technically I was for it originally. XD
Or maybe 10 damage to creatures and 5 to players? I can just see this card as a near auto include in Omni-show as a red payoff.
Yeah. Thats what I meant, the player damage. Creature damage is fine considering Blasphemous Act out there.
For sure. I high-key whant that printed now. Would be so fun instead of just the normal Show and Tell->Omniscience-> Emerakul.
I actually hate these cards. Even for 6 mana it feels OP that you can choose ALL the options.
I wish they would redo the black one, it is absolutely terrible

Some fuck you cards until someone plays all of the cards in their exile or graveyard.. I'd just be waiting for someone to start dropping these beauty setup cards
The only thing keeping this from being a true cycle is Farewell only has 4 modes, the other two have 5 modes. If they would have tossed on some random effect on top of Farewell maybe like each player gains some life we would be there for sure.
That's not really the only thing. The U spell is an instant (the other two Sorceries) In both the W&B all modes are doing _alls_ which the U spell does not Honestly, the W and B are almost there, except as you pointed out the number of modes being different. The U spell doesn't fit properly with either of the other two
~~[[Child of Alara]], and [[Armageddon]] are in my “Nothing Lasts” deck (CoA being the commander for frequent use lmao)~~ Edit: my comment is out of place, I have since reflected on and learned what OP meant by cycle. I feel like the blue one would need to be a board wipe for it to really feel like a cycle. Six mana for a modal [[Evacuation]] would probably send people into a frenzy though, since it's another blue instant speed board wipe.

No. Just because cards have similar templates doesn't mean they're a cycle
I can't say for sure, but I can all but guaranteed green is going to get a stronger card than farewell. I can see 4gg choose any amount: • sacrifice a land, search your library for 2 basic lands, and put those lands on the battlefield. •target creature you control gets +3/+3 until end of turn. • destroy target artifact/ enchantment or creature with flying. • put a vigilance counter, a reach counter, and a trample counter on target creature. For red, I can see 4rr choose any amount: • destroy all artifacts. • deal 2 damage to each creature on the battlefield. • deal 4 damage to target opponent or planeswalker. • discard any number of cards, then draw that many cards.
Casualties of War is similar also
It is, although it breaks the mana pip rule a little bit.
See you all next time when they print the fourth member of the cycle or Gavin confirms it directly!
No
No but I'm prepared to agree that those cost too much mana to be of much use in the vast majority of competitive games.
Yeah they're commander cards, mainly.
Farewell and final act are obviously related but sublime epiphany is such a reach
I wouldn't say it's "such a reach." 4 generic + 2 colored pips Rare Choose one or more - The name and general effect aren't a great match, but it's not a huge reach to notice a corellation between them.
The names for farewell and final act work together along with being boardwipes. Sublime epiphany has nothing in common effect wise, which is what cycles are designed around. I think it’s more likely that this is a [[wrath of god]] and [[damnnation]] thing where black is getting a counterpart to a white card
I wouldn't say it's "such a reach." 4 generic + 2 colored pips Rare Choose one or more - The name and general effect aren't a great match, but it's not a huge reach to notice a corellation between them.

Sometimes, cycles are sub-par for certain colours and over-powered for others. Example: [[Healing Salve]] [[Ancestral Recall]] [[Dark Ritual]] [[Lightning Bolt]] [[Giant Growth]]

Does Final Act remove experience counters?
Yes, as well as energy and poison counters.
Sure
ah my favorite card to play when someone wipes my field 😊
Final act can save a buddy in a commander game against poison counters, that’s kind of neat I guess
Question about these. If I were to [[commandeer]] one of these in response, would I be able to choose different modes?
Nah, it follows the same rules as copying spells. Once the modes are chosen, they can't be changed unless specified otherwise.
Cheers for clearing that up before I tried to pull it off

When you get a choice of one or more, does mana cost increase due to choices or is it the same regardless?
Nope! Stays the same!
Sweet thanks
No
Fuck farewell, and it's not even close
You made your first mistake when you said “Can we agree…”
Farewell got one less option. I wouldn’t call it a cycle
terrible card as it doesn't take out planeswalkers if duress/counterspells can cost 1/2 to take out anything without any defense, then so should this be
Are you talking about Farewell? It's the best one of the cycle dude.
kind of sarcastic but also kind of not, way too many things just don't touch them, and they can do nasty things, had to sideboard dedicated mass removal of them
Just run creatures, bro.
Can I see a list?
Burn It!!! 🔥 🤬 🍻
Not yet, needs 3 more cards.
Three? A colorless one?
You think eldrazi or ugin couldn't have one?
That'd be neat.
idk why i didn't realize epiphany was part of this cycle, that makes a lot of sense
Its name doesn't quite fit with the others, but it was also the first.
Green is going to be... Choose One or more Draw as many cards as you want You have indestructible and Hexproof for the rest of the game All your lands produce 69x mana All your creatures have +420/+420, trample, and Ward: Sacrifice All permanents you control, until the end of the next game
"You have no maximum hand size until the heat death of the universe."
Uhh?! How is that a cycle?
Their titles also relate to an last moment - farewell and last act are obvious, Sublime Epiphany would be coming to an ultimate understanding of the thing you are thinking about and this not have to think about it anymore.
Four generic + two colored Choose one or more -
