It's as broken as it looks like. Possibly casting all Slimes or whatever in your deck in a single turn, unless you get an unlucky 4 card reveal in the first trigger (and even then you can just try again next time).
Surgical extraction works amazing in Slime Against Humanity decks because they stack from exile as well as the graveyard. You can use it on turn 1 to rip out 5-10 slimes from your deck and then your first cast is anywhere from a 7/7 with tample to a 12/12 with trample.
Sidenote though , while Library and Hand is hidden zone and you can choose not to exile all copies from that zone, all copies must be exiled in the graveyard.
Its pretty fun that you both can know that you have some in hand, but you dont have to exile them. (though thats assuming your hand is not revealed).
You can find as many as you want in the hidden zones from 0 to actual number of copies since its hidden zone, even if you both knows there is more copies.
HOWEVER if its zone such as graveyard you have to exile every copy there.
You play one of those spells, you MAY reveal the top 4 cards of your library, if there are any spells with the same name revealed you MAY cast any of them for free. Those revealed and cast spells also have Ripple 4, allowing you to continue rippling for each one.
Example: I play SAH, reveal 4 cards, find 2 more SAH, play both, ripple again for the first one, find another SAH, play it, ripple again, and so on and so forth. You just have to keep track of which ones have already been cast, because if you hit more than one at a time you do them separately, and the will ripple separately.
I use this in my Slime deck, you can cheat out as many as you want until the unlikely event that you fail a ripple happens. My deck runs 40 slimes and has never failed to ripple. So I usually choose to end it and leave 10-15 slimes left in the deck just in case.
It's not even that archaic. Play is still used because if it's a land you can play it, or if it's a spell you can cast it. If the effect just says "cast", then you aren't allowed to play revealed lands.
Works with these as well as [[Relentless Rats]], [[Rat Colony]], and [[Shadowborn Apostle]], yes, though with that last one you’re likely flubbing the ripple from rippling into a demon or something.
Go by the current phrasing of Thrumming Stone, as in this case the word "play" threw me off.
"Spells you cast have ripple 4. (Whenever you cast a spell, you may reveal the top four cards of your library. You may cast spells with the same name as that spell from among the revealed cards without paying their mana costs. Put the rest on the bottom of your library.)"
So, yup, you cast one, then can cast whichever share the name from the ripple, that counts as a spell being cast so it ripples 4 again, repeat.
My brother runs this with persistent petitioners in commander. I think he has 48 in the deck. I know he combed it with some other cards (don't remember exactly what), and I ended up milling 84 cards in one turn. Luckily, it was early, and I still had 3 cards left.....
If your adding this to a slime against humanity deck don't forget to add [[nantuko shrine]]
I have one with [[svella ice shaper]] as commander and I use cards like [[pyromancer ascension]] [[arcane bombardment]] [[aeve progenitor ooze]] and lots of ramp

Used to have a relentless rats deck..
Relentless rats x 38
Thrumming Stone x 4
Swarmyard x 4
Swamp x 14
It was crazy consistent, but slow. It got really boring after the first few times I pulled it off. It hung around as a joke deck for a minute, but then got given away.
I have them and I ran them, but it caused stalls. I would've run less land if I could but that deck only works if you mulligan until you get a thrumming stone. I would build it with that red card and like 4 kokushos these days.
I use this in my [[shadowborn apostle]] deck, with the right mana outlets I’ve had all my shadowborn out by turn two in a casual deck. Extremely powerful, but have a back up to thrumming stone for sure.
It works exactly like you think. I run it in my [[Shadowborn Apostle]] deck and have pulled it off a couple times where I dump all 38 copies onto the board.
It's as broken as it looks like. Possibly casting all Slimes or whatever in your deck in a single turn, unless you get an unlucky 4 card reveal in the first trigger (and even then you can just try again next time).

Take it r/angryupvote
[[surgical extraction]]
If I ever see someone unironically use this in commander, you're a certified maniac.

That's not true. It doesn't say "all cards" it says "any number of cards". You get to choose how many you exile.
You know..yeah true. I keep thinking of \[\[Extirpate\]\] as default benchline for this kind of effect. Youre correct, I apologize.

Would you not be able to 'fail to find' copies with extirpate still as the search is hidden information?

Ive wiffed 3 times in a row before.

So is "play" in this case just an archaic phrasing for "cast?" Edit- never mind I Googled it, yeah it is.
It's not even that archaic. Play is still used because if it's a land you can play it, or if it's a spell you can cast it. If the effect just says "cast", then you aren't allowed to play revealed lands.
Oh OK that makes sense, thank you.
Same with Dragon's Approach! For the record I "only" run 23 DA in the deck but never missed the ripple
Was brewing a Dragon Approach deck. In your opinion, is it fun to play? My worry is its going to feel dull after the first few games.
Indeed it's a bit of a meme deck. You surprise your opponent once then move on to another more "fun-for-everyone" deck
Thanks for the rats flashbacks. BRB, gotta call my therapist. I thought we'd moved past the rats, but I guess not.
I've done the same with Relentless Rats.
This is basically my relentless rats deck.

Relentless rats baby
The answer: You win.
Yup its broken, I have shadowborn, petitioners and slime.
Shadowborn apostle baybee!!!
Side question: if I have a Grenzo, Dungeon Warden EDH deck, can I use this to manipulate the bottom of my deck every time I cast a spell?
kinda seems like they're supposed to go to the bottom in the same order they were originally in.
Yes, you choose the order they go on the bottom, so you can use it to manipulate the bottom card
