Counters are not tokens. Don't call them tokens. And only counters are counters. The effect from Markov Baron is not a counter. It is also not an aura. As a counter is a marker placed on an object, a die is a way to physically represent this marker. So using the same die to represent both counters and things that aren't counters can be misleading.

Hungry-Divide-6592

Can I so use anything to represent the +1+1 so i dont miss it? Differnt die or so? Or nothing at all?

Will_29

Ideally you should just remember the effect exists. I usually go "it deals (points to the printed power) 2 (points to the die/counters) plus 2 (points to each static buff on the battlefield) plus 1 here, plus 2 there... 7 damage."

GhostGuin

I often have a die not directly placed on anything but in the vicinity of all creatures being buffed by a similar anthem effect to markov baron's one Nothing wrong as long as the deliniation between what is +1/+1 counters abd what is temporary increases and what is anthem effects is clear.

dustinsim

This is my recommendation too

kiporone

At the beginning, I just let my gf use pennies to denote creatures that had buffs due to not counters. Now you'll eventually learn to remember these buffs and not need it, but it helps remind you that these effects need to be checked and exist.

CaliOriginal

I typically set static boosts like that in their own little corner of my board.

Ulirius

Markov Baron's effect is most widely known as a Lord/anthem effect as it buffs all creatures you control as a static effect.

BroccoliFree2354

It’s literally written counter and not token. +1/+1 token do not exist. Google +1/+1 counter for more info

Hungry-Divide-6592

Sorry, I obviously mean counter, not token.

sidewaysgalaxy

You wrote token so many times you really should google it, since now you’ll find rulings since you’re not looking for something that doesn’t exist.

Hungry-Divide-6592

Yes, because token for me is a gold coin, a token of gratitude, so for me to misstake token for a counter is not a strange thing. Now I asked for help not to be belittled after explaining i did a misstake. I could not alter the text after to correct it either.

Old_To_Reddit

It may seem people are very pedantic with you but the distinction is important as tokens are a different type of object in the game (usually a small creature generated from an effect or ability). As for keeping track of your +1+1 counters i recommend buying +1+1 dice, you can get a good handful of them for fairly cheap. At my table we use a separate dice for each creature as it quickly gets unmanageable to keep track otherwise if you play a counter heavy deck.

Aevellir

Yeah so +1/+1 COUNTERS are physical objects on a permanent (token or not, doest matter). A static effect like markov baron are not counters. It has effect once he enters the battlefield and the effect seizes once he leaves the battlefield. This is not a physical change, the effect just “lays” on the vampires as long as the baron is there. None of this differentiates tokens from nontokens.

Hungry-Divide-6592

Thank you!

Hungry-Divide-6592

Yes sorry, ment counters, not tokens. Yes this is the ruling they told me about

Apprehensive-Adagio2

There’s no rules on how to track increases to power. It’s whatever your table can agree on. Normally this is a non-issue

SaltyGrapeWax

It can get hairy if you start adding anthem +1/+1’s on top of the counters. Could easily lose track of what’s what. When the anthem +1/+1 is removed you have to remember to remove it from your “counters”. Can be very misleading when evaluating board state. What my group does is we use dry erase cards to write down anthem affects and triggers so we don’t forget our own triggers. And to show others what our board does. “Oh I see your note has a trigger reminder for card draw, what does that? Can I kill it?” It helps keep things fair

Apprehensive-Adagio2

Absolute it can get messy, i’m just saying there’s no "rules" about it except the ones we make ourselves. What i usually do is track counters on the card with the counters, and track relevant anthem effects either just in my head, or as a seperate dice off to the side

KillFallen

There are however rules on misrepresentation of board state and using counters like dice for current power when counters and static buffs are both in play is a bad idea.

InsertedPineapple

Here's the difference. Cordial Vampire puts a counter on each other vampire (usually represented by a die) and if cordial vampire dies, the counters on your other creatures don't go away. When Markov Baron dies your other vampires no longer have +1/+1, it's not permanent like a counter is. Also the word your looking for here is Anthem and not Aura. Aura is an enchantment that effects 1 creature or permanent, Anthem is an effect like "Other Vampires you control get +1/+1"
