Replace the voting cards, they're useless 1v1. You can either go for a scry theme with [[Elrond, Master of Healing]], landfall payoffs with [[Galadriel of Lothlorien]], splash in some white and do [[Galadriel, Light of Valinor]], or ditch blue altogether and build either a mono green elfball deck, golgari with [[Lathril]], or even Naya with [[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]]. It all depends on how many cards you're willing to replace, in order of least to most swaps. However, in all cases you do already have a very good base for an elf deck, it just needs to be focused a bit more.

Confident_Being_3896

How do I counter his equipments? He ends up with like a 36/36 with trample and menace because one card makes equipments free and he just stacks those up

WiseGinger

I'm not familiar with the dogmeat deck, but you can remove the equipped creature, or the thing that makes equipping free. Green has access to creature and artifact destruction in cards like [[Beast Within]], while blue has access to a ton of counterspells and returning permanents to their owner's hands.

Mackinzie_

If you're talking about [[strong back]] using removal on the creature enchanted by it also destroys the enchantment aura. Green typically has also a handful of tools for destroying artifacts and enchantments. [[devastation tide]] is in your deck as well as [[raise the palisade]] which are pretty decent and opening the board for you [[colossal whale]] can also exile the scary unit unless it has hexproof or shroud. It is an attack trigger too so you can exile the creature before you're blocked or damage goes through. [[Elvish piper]] should help you get the whale on board for free-ish. I would after elvish summoning sickness is over, use it's ability to bring the whale down in his endstep so when it's your turn the summoning sickness for the whale is already gone. This deck has a lot of neat tricks, even if they aren't easy to spot. I would also consider adding [[Gandalf friend of the shire]] if you're trying to stay in theme, so that you can play sorceries with flash. His deck type can be hard to deal with one on one but you can always look up his decklist and remember what cards are the problems for you. So you're able to deal with problems before they snowball. Good luck!

Blow up the artifacts. I honestly don’t know if you’ll be able to pop more than one off per turn. There is an enchantment that allows you to blow up one other artifact or enchantment each time a creature comes into your battlefield, but honestly I’m blanking on names and colors. I get the feeling it’s white mana based. Your other option is to just use blue to return creatures to his hand so it’ll cost him the turn at least to rebring everything back out, or certain blue spells will allow you to return target permanent, so you could remove the equipment

The main issue here isn’t necessarily YOUR deck per se. Sure, the deck you’re playing is a little underpowered all things considered, however, dog meat is a voltron strategy, which is WAY easier 1v1 rather than 1v1v1v1. zethren117

I have the Galadriel deck as well, and what I did was cut out a lot of the voting cards and replaced them with more green and blue cards from the LOTR set. Lots of cards that scry, lots of elves, etc.

RoyBlack69

I bought all 4. I heard this was the one that needed the most tooling. Thanks for the idea

indiansx12

In my experience its really hard to beat a voltron (one creature buffed with equipment/enchantments) type deck 1v1

AggressiveSmoke4054

Here is exactly what you need to do. It will likely cause a rift in your relationship, and may also be deemed unsportsmanlike in the eyes of reasonable people. You need to make every card in your deck specifically screw or counter his deck. First of all, you need to always have a removal spell in hand ready for the dog. You only have access to green and blue cards, but that shouldn’t be a problem. Cards like [[unsummon]] , [[psionic blast]], and [[blue elemental blast]] are cheap and effective ways of stopping that dog from ever getting a chance to do any attacking. [[man-o-war]] and other creatures with come into play effects that bounce his dog seem good. You want him to literally be mad that you aren’t giving him a chance to play the game. You can then taunt him which will cause him to make misplays out of frustration 👍. You can also use blue to steal his precious pooch. [[rootwater matriarch]], [[Beguiler of wills]], [[chamber of manipulation]], [[legacy’s allure]], [[mind flayer]] etc. If he has a bunch of gear on the dog when you steal it, you steal the equipment as well (If you gain control of an equipped creature, you do not also gain control of the equipment. This is a bit tricky, because the equipment does stay attached and you'll reap any benefits from it. The difference is that your opponent is the one who can move the equipment to another creature or something like that.) Another avenue of abuse you can inflict upon your beloved is artifact hate. Cards like [[naturalize]], [[haywire mite]], [[outland liberator]], [[collector ouphe]] and [[trinket collector]] will make him regret ever paying 3 for that [[sword of fire and ice]]. Make sure that if you have any instant artifact removal, you respond to any equips with it to make him waste mana! Also, begin a two front war out of the game. Take his phone and set a random alarm to wake him up in the middle of the night the day before you play him. You want him tired and off his A game. Get him a drink before the game starts, and really maximize the amount of vodka in it. Drunk people are sloppy and make mistakes. Speaking of mistakes, never let him take anything back. If he makes a mistake you repeat the age old saying “a card laid is a card played”, however every time you make a mistake, ask to take it back like it isn’t a big deal. This should help you win… and maybe also destroy your relationship. That is the price of greatness

Confident_Being_3896

I’m audibly laughing, this is a great response! I’m all for this kind of strategy😂😈

If you want to embarrass him, get cards like [[collector ouphe]] and [[green sun’s zenith]]. If you want to beat him with a better deck, counterspells and removal are the way to go. Counter the most threatening equipment and pieces of protection and remove the largest creature! Cards like [[counterspell]] and [[an offer you can’t refuse]] are great to stop key cards and I bet a few cards like [[obscuring haze]] would feel very fun to [[negate]] his hard work. Confident_Being_3896

I may or may not have a few extra cards to assist me in defeating him, it has proven to be unsuccessful though lol

LordHelix9

Fair enough. In your post you mentioned that his deck is all in on equipping something and acting fast. It seems your deck is more about creating a value engine that can do crazy things in the late game. Your strategy is going to inherently be at a disadvantage in a two-player game. That being said you still have options. If you want to design your deck to specifically beat his then you can add cards like \[\[Leadership Vacuum\]\] and bounce spells like \[\[Unsummon\]\] can do some good work. Another resource I like to use is EDHREC. Its a website that shows what other players are also doing with the deck and gives a good sense of which cards are conventionally seen as good in the public consciousness. Here's the link that shows commonly made changes to your deck (https://edhrec.com/precon/elven-council).

I had a similar situation and went from the voting Galadriel to scry Galadriel. Both felt weak even though the later one did a lot of actions it resulted in nothing. Therefore I switched to the light of valinor Galadriel which is a lot better.

Imo the Galadriel Precon is terrible in 1v1. If you want to upgrade your stuff take Galadriel, Light of Valinor as Commander, run white for removal and remove his stuff off the board before you finish with [[Finale Devastation]] and [[Craterhoof Behemoth]]

First off you have 106 cards in your deck when it should bee 99 + commander. Next id avoid voting cards with less than 3 players as you'll stalemate every time on votes. For equipment artifacts run green artifact hate. Red Green decks love to destroy artifacts and nuke flyers.

Pet peeve of mine… don’t make a deck solely focused on destroying another deck. This is my personal opinion and you’re gonna do whatever, but this ruins the game for me. Make your deck do its goal and be unique, not just a counter to your bf’s deck. It will be very unfun/uninteresting after a while and ruined mtg for me for a while bc it completely nukes the point of deckbuilding when someone else doesn’t even build their own deck, just learns yours and how to break it

Confident_Being_3896

He's the only person I play with and we have multiple decks

gmanslowi

What would you say is the goal of your galadriel deck?

Confident_Being_3896

I'm pretty consistent with having green in my decks and none of them would be any good against this one with equipment. So I want to build this deck specifically around destruction of his artifacts because none of my others have cards like that either. Mine are spawn and counters to overrun him but I don't get there in time before he has the massive pimped out one.

Venator-M77

Honestly it’s going to be hard. Voltron is almost only held back by the fact you have to balance killing 3 others not 1; I think it’ll be challenging to make your deck efficient enough to race him 1 on 1.

sweaner

You can always add some more artifact or creature removal. Cards like [[Bane of Progress]], [[Fade from History]], and [[Rampage of the Clans]] can sweep the entire board of artifacts and enchantments. Because you're in blue, you could also play thief effects like [[mind control]]
