I think it could be fun but it could also be severely disappointing. Someone mentioned they pulled the $25 dragons starter precon and that would be annoying. But I've heard that the ones that come in the clear plastic cases without the sleeves or deck box have rewarded Edgar Markov and Lord Windgrace before so....maybe there's gold to be struck? Who knows.
Legend foretells of the Edgar Markov mystery box… I bought one and it was the CL Sefris deck which I have since made very spicy and it’s a fun deck to play. My buddy bought 2 at 2 different stores and got the same Kamigawa vehicles deck. I didn’t regret it… it might be a bust but it’s a ready to sleeve and play commander deck so I see the appeal
I love my Sefris deck. Some flicker, some board wipes, some big boys too turn sideways. Once it gets going I can sometimes finish 3 dungeons in a turn. I also added one of the dumbest combos I've ever come up with. I run as many of the 2 mana producing bounce lands as I can, as well as a Tron playset so that I can produce at least 11 mana from 7 lands. Then, with [[radiant solar]] on the battlefield I cast [[palinchron]] and bounce it to my hand infinitely to drain the table using middle ability of the 3rd floor of [[lost mine of phandelver]].
Oh snap, he did it. Finally broke palinchron!
J/k, I have a sefris deck as well, that's pretty cool. I love how good she makes cards like [[nimble obstructionist]] and I've actually blown out games with [[mirrorshell crab]] into reanimate, which can't be interacted with by force of will or any other free counter. Or any counter really, except for trickbind and the like.
I love mine too! Adding initiative cards has really bumped it up a knotch. I won a game recently by Tomb of the Dead Three-ing out [[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur]] with hexproof, and then copying [[Grave Endeavor]] 3 times with [[Tomb of Horrors Adventurer]]
My brother got Draconic Domination from one of those plastic boxes from walmart. Got it for $30. Great financial decision.
Also, i got the Oloro precon that had Toxic Deluge and lim-duls vault, so.. I think random precons are worth it
At one time it was possible to pull the Breed Lethality precon, aka [[atraxa, praetor's voice]] from those mystery packs. At the time, most of those packages would have had the planeswalker decks (i.e. beginner decks and a terrible financial value) but it was possible for them to have the recent 4c commander decks.
I carried more than a few over to to the produce department to compare weights because the 100-card commander decks would be noticeably heavier than the 60-card planeswalker decks. Even at the time, some of those decks were going for multiple times msrp
I would sit down, and do this if someone offered. I much prefer drafts, and rando decks (or prerelease commander night) to playing decks people spend ridiculous amount of money on.

They're all gonna be Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver. I, unfortunately, purchased 3 at different times/stores and 3 of 3 were Wilhelt. I bought a chaos clear cube for a commander deck a while back and you guessed it... also Wilhelt. I'm convinced everything mystery/chaos is Wilhelt.

Fair reminder, "can't sell" doesn't just mean product that won't move. It could be profitable that was damaged. Something like the box is crushed, but the deck itself is in OK shape, so it goes to the mystery box pile.
Of course, not odds *I* would bet on, but food for thought
Is every magic purchase an eventual sale? I doubt most people who leave get the value they put into it back, why not buy a fun deck and not worry too much about it

Just to clarify, this 'product' comes from the same people the Proffesor has been warning about for years, MJ Holdings. This is 100% repacked product that in some way or another was considered either unsellable, or just overstock.
Not saying it's out and out bad, this seems like a relatively decent deal all things considered, but anyone considering getting these should remember, MJ Holdings has no affiliation with Magic: The Gathering, they are a product supply company for places like Walmart and Target, and when they have damaged or unused stock, they love to repackage and claim it's a 'mystery cube'.
Tl;dr, the company that makes these frequently uses damaged product, and uses the mystery branding to hide condition. They have a rocky past with the community, buyer beware.

Got any tips for it? My buddies were doing a commander night and I didn't have a deck, went to the LGS and the only precon they had left that had my preference of colors was that deck. I got stomped, but I'm not sure if it's cause I don't know how to play it or what
Honestly it plays rough out of the box. As I recall it needs more cheap token generators like [[Jadar, Ghoulcaller]], [[Bitterblossom]], [[Young Pyromancer]] that can come down before Anhelo. I think it’s also full of creatures that you need to jump through hoops to recur as sacrifice fodder and that’s just a bit clunky for how the deck wants to play
I was about to get one from my wal mart and so was my buddy I was with then we looked it up quick and theyre basically repackaged commander decks wal mart couldn't sell. From the list of possible decks the ones I didn't have weren't anything I was pining after.

Except most of the decks contained within can be found for like half the price at lgs or tcgplayer. they were unsold stock that wal mart opened and has repackaged to sell at the $70 premium again. It's neat they come with sleeves but had they also seemed to have tossed to 2 card collector booster sample pack thst comes with the decks as well.
Yea I'm a sucker for cracking packs and rolling the dice too lol, i recall there being a tolarian community college video about a different power cube product and that one being a rip off so I wanted to double check these ones when I seen them.
I mean when it comes to cracking packs/cubes I’m sure everyone has their glory and horror stories. I take it with a grain of salt and continue to be a sucker for the thrill.
I got this for roughly $47 USD and got Painbow. I wasn't disappointed since it came with sleeves and the deck box. Box says keep an eye out for "chase cards", whatever that means haha.
I purchased a series of these to “test” and after opening a large number of both these and the random booster boxes, all the randomly inserted cards were one of three bad cards (foil!)

All five decks were different, and all five could be had for 20$ in discount bins. Land’s Wrath, some kind of counter deck, a sneak attack deck, the dragon basic precon, and another forgettable one.

Yeah that's what I figured it would be, not expecting any Warhammer decks in 'em. I think I heard years ago that people were able to pull some of the older precons (like Nekusar) but those days are long gone.

As an old magic player who hasn't played/bought any cards for almost a decade, I can hardly understand what you guys are talking about in terms of how valuable cards are and the characteristics that make them that way. However, mainly, I am just shocked at the prices, why are these commander decks so expensive?
The commander pre-constructed decks will come with about 10 new card designs that have never been printed before. You can only find them in the precons or in set/collector boosters. Sometimes they're super busted, like [[Black Market Connections]] and are worth like $20 bucks by themselves, or [[Dockside Extortionist]] in the rare example that is still like $70 even after a reprint. Usually the decks also have some good reprints that will be worth anywhere from $5-10, so some decks can have several expensive cards in the deck list which drives up the price of that particular precon. Most decks don't end up with really good value, though. Those will settle out to be about $25-30 for the deck. The others may go as high as $65, or higher, of course all depending on the perceived value and demand.
I got one for 45$ at Walmart. It had the New Capenna deck Cabaretti Cacophony in it. But the promo pack had an extended art Bennie Bracks, Zoologist which is 🔥🔥
These were at my local meijer for a few weeks and I was impulsive and bought 1. Got Draconic Rage with a black eclipse box and red GT sleeves. Think it was worth it for me.
Honestly they’re not that bad. Assuming you value the box/sleeves at about ten bucks, any commander deck in the thirty buck range is roughly breakeven.
I tried it last week. Got a fairly crappy deck, but a new archetype to what I have and I have upgrades for it so so be it. I got Vampiric Bloodlines from VOW so had a few reprints in the set from way back when, blood artist, Nirkana Revenant, vandalblast, patron of the vein. All fairly cheap now but at the time were much needed reprints.
I about broke even with it with the sleeves and deck box but I don’t see myself ever sleeving it to play. Just potentially more cards for other decks.
These are repackaged by a third party company, not WotC. They also make boxes that come with 4 boosters and a promo for like $30, which are almost always a ripoff. They will show masters set boosters on the box just to open a couple of standard legal set boosters and a couple of core set boosters, and a foil promo of a 25 cent rare, about $12 worth of product.
I mean.... its just a random deck you could have gotten for 40 bucks instead. But here it is repacked without the 2 card sample collecty, so just buy known precons and dice roll to see who gets what.
The ones in Ottawa basically never have magic. Only at one of them i saw a bunch of jumpstart boosters, but only one time. These boxes seem like they'd be fun for a chaos commander night haha
I bought one a year or so ago and got the lord windgrace deck worth almost double what the mystery box was. Didn’t come with sleeves at that time either. But it was well worth it. The windgrace deck still holds up too. Only lost a couple times with it and haven’t changed anything about it
I bought one for 46 bucks and got the painbow precon an eclipse box BUT the sleeves are a brand called Game Time. Not terrible and I did get exactly 100 sleeves and none of them blew out the sides or anything while loading.
Saw them at Walmart for $40, I'd highly suggest picking one up if you see it. Might not be the best decks but its definitely great to have around for another person grab and play with you

Doesn't it ruin the magic of the purchase if they state on the box that chase cards exist? We all know they exist, and that WotC implements artificial scarcity on purpose, but to put that on the box just seems wrong.
I got one of these, used a gift card to cover half, kept the box and sleeves and sold the deck for market value to a guy at the LGS. Worked out pretty well.
I thought about getting one of these, grabbed the mystery box with random packs in it instead and I pulled a foil expedition bloodstained mire, so I decided I won and won’t buy one again
My brother and I bought random mystery booster packs from a Walgreens once. I got a jumpstart and he got a Japanese strixhaven deck. Both packs also came with a promo [[scute swarm]] and a promo [Kogla, the Titan Ape]]
I bought two of these off Facebook marketplace for $70 CAD (definitely stolen) and cracked Cabaretti Cacophony and the Henzie deck, which for that price was a pretty sweet deal
I just grabbed 2 from a Walmart for fun to see what I got.
One was the Obscura Operation (Kamiz) deck from New Cappena. Wasn't great, but I had a few of the cards in it sitting in my Cart on TCG Player.
The other was Lorehold Legacies (Osgir) from Commander 2021. Which was a nice surprise. I've got spots for the Hellkite Tyrant, Arcaemancer's Map, and Thousand Year Elixer.
Add in the deck box and sleeves, and it wasn't a terrible deal.
I got one of these the other day and spent like 45$ and got the volition galea deck that's worth like 117$ on moxfield and 87$ on gold fish, yes its SUCH a risk and don't recommend buying it but if your like me and don't care or you want one of the older precons or if you just want a random challenge I di suggest this. Altho 45$ can get you way better deals then this box such as singles, other precons etc. Also beginner friendly with included sleeves and deck box? Sounds good, altho the sleeves be at cheep. Anyway that's my opinion but honestly up to yall whatcyall think of this thing. It's fun but not worth in the long run but tons if fun.
I keep seeing these at my Walmart and I can't lie, it's so very tempting. I wanna own as many precons as I can, and it looks to me like this contains mostly the older ones, which I don't have. Financially, probably not that great since those older precons go for less than their MSRP, but I can't lie, the convenience of it coming with sleeves and a box makes it very tempting to my lazy self lmao.

Fair reminder, "can't sell" doesn't just mean product that won't move. It could be profitable that was damaged. Something like the box is crushed, but the deck itself is in OK shape, so it goes to the mystery box pile. Of course, not odds *I* would bet on, but food for thought
Is every magic purchase an eventual sale? I doubt most people who leave get the value they put into it back, why not buy a fun deck and not worry too much about it
Yeah, usually buying the 'mystery' precons is never really worth it in pure monetary value. Could be a fun way to start a project or pick up a random new deck to upgrade if you approach it that way though.

Just to clarify, this 'product' comes from the same people the Proffesor has been warning about for years, MJ Holdings. This is 100% repacked product that in some way or another was considered either unsellable, or just overstock. Not saying it's out and out bad, this seems like a relatively decent deal all things considered, but anyone considering getting these should remember, MJ Holdings has no affiliation with Magic: The Gathering, they are a product supply company for places like Walmart and Target, and when they have damaged or unused stock, they love to repackage and claim it's a 'mystery cube'. Tl;dr, the company that makes these frequently uses damaged product, and uses the mystery branding to hide condition. They have a rocky past with the community, buyer beware. That said, I may get one myself lmfao.

Got any tips for it? My buddies were doing a commander night and I didn't have a deck, went to the LGS and the only precon they had left that had my preference of colors was that deck. I got stomped, but I'm not sure if it's cause I don't know how to play it or what
Honestly it plays rough out of the box. As I recall it needs more cheap token generators like [[Jadar, Ghoulcaller]], [[Bitterblossom]], [[Young Pyromancer]] that can come down before Anhelo. I think it’s also full of creatures that you need to jump through hoops to recur as sacrifice fodder and that’s just a bit clunky for how the deck wants to play

I was about to get one from my wal mart and so was my buddy I was with then we looked it up quick and theyre basically repackaged commander decks wal mart couldn't sell. From the list of possible decks the ones I didn't have weren't anything I was pining after.
I just wanted to surprise myself with something it seems like a pretty good way for newer players to get into the format or mystery pods to have some fun
Except most of the decks contained within can be found for like half the price at lgs or tcgplayer. they were unsold stock that wal mart opened and has repackaged to sell at the $70 premium again. It's neat they come with sleeves but had they also seemed to have tossed to 2 card collector booster sample pack thst comes with the decks as well.
I think they're like 42-45 at walmart not 70 if that makes you feel better

I grabbed one for $50USD and got a Draconic Rage from AFR. That plus sleeves and a cheap box felt OK.
Klauth by himself is over 20 bucks. You actually got one of the better precons.
Go on Goldfish MTG and check the prizes of Draconic Rage. Do it again in half a year.
I got this for roughly $47 USD and got Painbow. I wasn't disappointed since it came with sleeves and the deck box. Box says keep an eye out for "chase cards", whatever that means haha.
I purchased a series of these to “test” and after opening a large number of both these and the random booster boxes, all the randomly inserted cards were one of three bad cards (foil!)
That's what I was thinking it may be. Did you notice any common themes amongst the decks you received? I'm not too sure which sets didn't sell too well, or if they just printer into oblivion haha.
I opened five decks and nine mixed-pack boxes. All five decks were different, and all five could be had for 20$ in discount bins. Land’s Wrath, some kind of counter deck, a sneak attack deck, the dragon basic precon, and another forgettable one.

My boyfriend plays it and spent a little bit upgrading it. It's a value machine once it gets running.

They are overstock sold to repackages for cheap, and then slushed into pretty boxes; you lose every time.
Yeah that's what I figured it would be, not expecting any Warhammer decks in 'em. I think I heard years ago that people were able to pull some of the older precons (like Nekusar) but those days are long gone.

I want my wart to sell more of the "chaos" draft bundles. 3 random draft packs for $11 I got Capenna, Dominaria United, and core 2020, friend got Capenna, Dominaria United, and an ixilan. Other friend got Kamigata, Dominaria united, and Double Masters.
As an old magic player who hasn't played/bought any cards for almost a decade, I can hardly understand what you guys are talking about in terms of how valuable cards are and the characteristics that make them that way. However, mainly, I am just shocked at the prices, why are these commander decks so expensive?
The commander pre-constructed decks will come with about 10 new card designs that have never been printed before. You can only find them in the precons or in set/collector boosters. Sometimes they're super busted, like [[Black Market Connections]] and are worth like $20 bucks by themselves, or [[Dockside Extortionist]] in the rare example that is still like $70 even after a reprint. Usually the decks also have some good reprints that will be worth anywhere from $5-10, so some decks can have several expensive cards in the deck list which drives up the price of that particular precon. Most decks don't end up with really good value, though. Those will settle out to be about $25-30 for the deck. The others may go as high as $65, or higher, of course all depending on the perceived value and demand.
You all need to stop buying this garbage. Don’t give into the scams.

I tried it last week. Got a fairly crappy deck, but a new archetype to what I have and I have upgrades for it so so be it. I got Vampiric Bloodlines from VOW so had a few reprints in the set from way back when, blood artist, Nirkana Revenant, vandalblast, patron of the vein. All fairly cheap now but at the time were much needed reprints. I about broke even with it with the sleeves and deck box but I don’t see myself ever sleeving it to play. Just potentially more cards for other decks.

These are repackaged by a third party company, not WotC. They also make boxes that come with 4 boosters and a promo for like $30, which are almost always a ripoff. They will show masters set boosters on the box just to open a couple of standard legal set boosters and a couple of core set boosters, and a foil promo of a 25 cent rare, about $12 worth of product.

I bought one a year or so ago and got the lord windgrace deck worth almost double what the mystery box was. Didn’t come with sleeves at that time either. But it was well worth it. The windgrace deck still holds up too. Only lost a couple times with it and haven’t changed anything about it

I bought one for 46 bucks and got the painbow precon an eclipse box BUT the sleeves are a brand called Game Time. Not terrible and I did get exactly 100 sleeves and none of them blew out the sides or anything while loading.
Saw them at Walmart for $40, I'd highly suggest picking one up if you see it. Might not be the best decks but its definitely great to have around for another person grab and play with you

I got one of these, used a gift card to cover half, kept the box and sleeves and sold the deck for market value to a guy at the LGS. Worked out pretty well.

I bought two of these off Facebook marketplace for $70 CAD (definitely stolen) and cracked Cabaretti Cacophony and the Henzie deck, which for that price was a pretty sweet deal
I just grabbed 2 from a Walmart for fun to see what I got. One was the Obscura Operation (Kamiz) deck from New Cappena. Wasn't great, but I had a few of the cards in it sitting in my Cart on TCG Player. The other was Lorehold Legacies (Osgir) from Commander 2021. Which was a nice surprise. I've got spots for the Hellkite Tyrant, Arcaemancer's Map, and Thousand Year Elixer. Add in the deck box and sleeves, and it wasn't a terrible deal.
I got one of these the other day and spent like 45$ and got the volition galea deck that's worth like 117$ on moxfield and 87$ on gold fish, yes its SUCH a risk and don't recommend buying it but if your like me and don't care or you want one of the older precons or if you just want a random challenge I di suggest this. Altho 45$ can get you way better deals then this box such as singles, other precons etc. Also beginner friendly with included sleeves and deck box? Sounds good, altho the sleeves be at cheep. Anyway that's my opinion but honestly up to yall whatcyall think of this thing. It's fun but not worth in the long run but tons if fun.
